  1. Well here it is - the first accident involving the chic looking all-new Jaguar F-Type roadster which will not be available till later this year. Sadly any information regarding the crash are not available and from the picture it is kinda obvious the front end needs many hours of repair. Apparently the crash happened during a comparison test between the Jaguar F-Type and two other cars. Thankfully no one was injured, except the car. Hey cars have feelings too ok? The Jaguar F-Type, is the successor to the famous Jaguar E-Type and will enter production in a couple of months.
  2. In the recent episode of Autocar UK, reviewer Steve Sutcliffe pits the brand new Renault Clio RS 200 EDC against the Toyota GT 86. The Toyota GT 86 is described by Top Gear as one of the best driving sports cars of the last decade. How will it fare against the French turbocharged hot hatch tuned by Renault Sport? Revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the fourth generation Clio RS is powered by a 1.6-litre DIG TURBO engine lifted from the Nissan Juke and develops 200bhp with 240Nm of torque. It ditches the manual transmission in favor of the EDC (Efficient Double Clutch) dual-clutch transmission developed by Renault Sport engineers. The Century sprint is completed in 6.7 seconds. On the other corner, we have the rear-wheel drive Toyota GT 86 fitted with the world's first direct-injected, 2.0-litre Boxer engine. The 200bhp, 205Nm coupe sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds when mated with a manual transmission. Read on to find out which model will come out on top!
  3. The Pininfarina Sergio concept car was created to pay tribute to the Italian design house's late chairman and CEO, Sergio Pininfarina, who passed away last year at an age of 85. The stunning concept was displayed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. According to Paolo Pininfarina, Sergio's son and chairman of the company, the concept was the result of a four-month labour of love by the entire team. Now, there is a chance that you could own a piece of the Sergio concept as there is a rumor that Pininfarina may produce 6 units of the concept at a price tag of about 3 million euros each. The Sergio concept, which is based on the Ferrari 458, sports a barchetta design as it has no windshield or side windows. A barchetta was originally an Italian style of open 2-seater sports car which was built for racing. If the car enters production, it will definitely get a windscreen to make it road-legal. Pininfarina chief designer Fabio Filippini said that they already know how and where to modify the Sergio concept car to make it into a compliant, street-legal model.

    Lamborghini

Unfazed by the Eurozone debt crisis and the 'Fiscal Cliff' episode in the US, Lamborghini's sales in 2012 improved by 30% as compared to a year ago. In terms of absolute figure, the supercar brand moved 2,083 vehicles last year comprising of 922 units of the Aventador and 1,161 units of the Gallardo. Asia took up the largest portion of the sales pie, accounting for 35% of global sales. The China market itself already account for 15%. This should not come as a surprise as Asia continues to be at the forefront of wealth creation, minting millionaires at a faster pace than any other region in the world. Strong sales is only part of Lamborghini's success story. The company's turnover climbed 46% from EUR 322 million in 2011 to EUR 469 million in 2012. With the global economic climate looking brighter, the bull run looks set to continue in 2013.
  5. This year's Geneva Motor Show was a dream for many petrolheads, thanks to the presence of a new McLaren and a new Ferrari hypercar, a new Porsche GT3, a new Alfa and a crazy Lamborghini.. thingy.. I'm sure you guys know Chris Harris from the Drive channel, who was fortunate enough to visit the show. Besides his opinion on some of the show cars at Geneva, je gives us a review of the facelifted E 63 AMG. Oh and did I mention he dislikes the Veneno?
  6. [extract]For the first time in the events history, the famed Tokyo Auto Salon will make its presence in Singapore at the Sands Expo
  7. The Porsche 911 will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and Porsche kicks-off the celebrations with the introduction of the new 911 GT3. Back in 1999, the 911 GT3 became the fastest ever production car to lap the legendary Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit and hence after set the benchmark for road legal sports cars. Over the last four generations a total of 14,145 GT3 cars have since been built and now there is another based on the 991 series - Porsche 911. The fifth generation 911 GT3 debuts at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show and aims to set the benchmark among thoroughbred Porsche sports cars with naturally aspirated engines. The engine, transmission, body and chassis are entirely new but the proven characteristics of the track inspired sports car are preserved. The powertrain of the new 911 GT3 comprises a 3.8-litre flat engine developing 475bhp mated to a Porsche PDK double-clutch gearbox, and rear-wheel drive. Though the six-cylinder engine is akin to the 911 Carrera S they only share a few common parts and weigh around 25 kg less than the previous unit. The new 911 GT3 comes with a sports exhaust system, which is revised from the previous model. The 991 based 911 GT3 is 44 mm wider than a Carrera S across the rear axle and houses the distinctive large, fixed rear wing. The 911 GT3 hit 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds while the top speed is attainable with 313km/h via the seventh gear. The 911 GT3 lapped the green hell in less than 7:30.
  8. To celebrate the brand's 50th anniversary this year, Lamborghini has planned to release a special model at the Geneva Motor Show. On the eve of the event, the photo of this hypercar has been leaked. Called the Veneno, which means "poison" in Spanish, this is the fastest Lamborghini ever built. The car is built upon the carbon fibre monocoque chassis borrowed from the Aventador LP700-4. The Veneno is powered by a more powerful version of the Aventador's 6.5-litre V12 engine that produces 740bhp instead of 700bhp. This gives the Veneno a top speed rating of 354km/h. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed ISR robotised manual gearbox. If you are thinking of getting one despite the increase in ARF, you might be disappointed to learn that all three units of this limited edition Lamborghini have been sold. Each carries a price tag of approximately
  9. Porsche has issued a recall in the US involving 2,263,911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models over exhaust pipe issues. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 7th March to 12th November 2012. "The exhaust tail pipe may fracture and separate from the rear muffler," said Porsche through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem affects the Carreras that were fitted with the standard exhaust system. The German brand added that the fallen pipe may become a hazard for other vehicles on the road, increasing the risk of a crash. This is certainly true especially if a motorcycle is right behind. Porsche is not aware of any defects or reported failures on any customer-owned vehicles. All defects determined to date were reported on internal Porsche test vehicles with mileage of over 25,000 miles. If you are lucky enough to own the latest 911, do check that the tail pipe is still attached at the end of the drive.
  10. The new MC Stradale will be the star on the Maserati stand, alongside the all new Quattroporte as they make their European debut. Maserati has unveiled a new, potent MC Stradale that will debut in Geneva. The new four seater GranTurismo MC Stradale, combines sportiness with remarkable Italian styling and luxury. While the new Quattroporte will be built in the newer Giovanni Agnelli plant in Grugliasco (Turin), the aggressive racing inspired GranTurismo MC Stradale will be built in viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. The changes include the new carbon fibre bonnet with a striking central air intake, which reminds me of the Ferrari California, and new forged 20-inch alloy rims. Maserati claims the new GranTurismo MC Stradale boasts four comfortable seats and the cabin houses featuring new materials and style. Sadly there aren't any pictures that shows the interior. The GranTurismo MC Stradale is powered by a capable 4.7-litre, 460bhp V8 engine mated to a robust 6-speed robotised manual gearbox. The Brembo carbon ceramic discs take care of braking performance, for a vehicle with a 302km/h top speed.
  11. Supercar maker McLaren has released the details of the production version of the P1 prior to its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Only 375 units will be produced instead of the originally planned 500 copies to maintain the car's exclusivity. The P1 is motivated by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbo, 3.8-litre V8 generating 737bhp with 720Nm of torque and an electric motor producing 179bhp and 260Nm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which sends power to the rear wheels. The P1 has a carbon fibre chassis which weighs 100kg, which is the lightest ever installed on a road-going car. According to McLaren, it is capable of providing the safety and rigidity of an F1 vehicle. The slippery P1 has a CD figure of 0.34 and can generate 600kg of downforce, which is five times more than the MP4-12C. The super car is fitted with an Instant Power Assist System (IPAS). According to McLaren, the IPAS is the electric motor which can be activated via a steering wheel-mounted button that gives the P1 the throttle response of a normally-aspirated engine. With the IPAS on, the P1 reaches 100km/h from standstill under 3 seconds and achieves 200 km/h within 7 seconds.
  12. As we draw closer to the launch of the Alfa Romeo 4C at the Geneva Motor Show, the Italian car maker has released more images of the coupe as well as an interior photo for the first time. The side view of the interior photo shows a simple dashboard layout. The sexy Italian two-door model measures less than 4 metres long and features a carbon fibre monocoque. The car weighs at approximately 960kg. The 4C will be powered by a new four-cylinder 1,750cc engine capable of 240bhp. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a TCT dual dry-clutch transmission. This means that the mid-engined sports car has an expected power-to-weight ratio of 4kg/bhp. For comparison, the Nissan 370Z has a ratio of 4.54kg/bhp and it already goes from 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds. The driving experience can be tailored via Alfa Romeo's DNA selector, which adds a 'Race' mode to the familiar 'Dynamic', 'Natural' and 'All Weather' settings.
  13. Recently, British magazine Auto Express pit the Audi R8 against the new Porsche 911 on a race track. These two supercars are actually distant relatives considering that both brands are under the Volkswagen Group's umbrella. The Audi R8 received a facelift in 2012 with the addition of a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission that replaces the six-speed automated manual R-tronic. At the other corner, the all new Porsche 911 has a rich heritage that dates back to 1963 and has been acclaimed as one of the world's benchmark sports cars. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is propelled by a flat-six, 3.8-litre engine with an output of 394bhp. In the 4S, power is distributed to all four wheels via a PDK dual clutch transmission. On the other hand, the R8 in this comparison test is motivated by a free-breathing 4.2-litre V8 with 424bhp. Like the 911, the R8 has an all-wheel drive setup. Whoever wins this group test, Volkswagen wins.
  14. Mercedes has released the official photos of the A 45 AMG prior to its world premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The German hot hatch is planned to go on sale in April. The A 45 AMG is powered by a highly-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected engine that is good for 350bhp and 450Nm of torque. Its main rivals, the BMW 135i and Audi RS3, produce 320bhp/450Nm and 340bhp/450Nm respectively. Power is transferred to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. It should complete the century sprint in 4.6 seconds en route to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
  15. [extract] As we count down to the Geneva Motor Show in March, Rolls-Royce has revealed more teaser images of the two-door version of the Ghost Saloon, known as the Wraith. "This image depicts Wraith's muscular rear haunches
  16. The 2013 model year Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster was announced for production in November 2012 and barely three months later, the order books are full until mid-2014. This means a waiting time of more than a year if someone were to place an order now. He can still get his open-top supercar earlier if he is prepared to cough out extra dough. The Aventador Roadster shares the same 6.5-litre V12 engine with the hard top version. This means that roadster develops 700bhp with a tremendous 690Nm of torque, enabling the car to go from 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds before reaching terminal velocity of 350 km/h. The Aventador Roadster boasts a unique engine cover design and an attachable wind deflector to improve cabin airflow at high speed.
  17. "Welcome to another episode of Jay Leno's Garage" - is Jay Leno's usual introduction whenever he starts off a web video. Visiting his garage recently was an iconic but important Lamborghini. At 20 mins it is nearly the running length of a sitcom, but may I say if you are a car enthusiast, it is truly worthy of your time. Visiting his garage was the legendary Lamborghini 350 GT from 1965 - The first Lamborghini ever. With him is Andrew Romanowski of Lamborghini Club of America, and together they discuss about the car and a brief history of the marque before finishing off with a auralgasmic drive down the street. If you are a young car enthusiast probably from the iGeneration and are more familiar with recent models like the Gallardo, or Aventador.. then you should watch this. Think of it as a automotive history lesson.
  18. After the Audi R8 China Edition, the German carmaker has unveiled another limited edition of the super car for the Chinese market. The body of this special edition R8 is painted in Nordic Gold color. Carbon fiber material is applied to external areas such as the front spoiler, rear wing and diffuser and side mirrors. The coupe wears 19" alloys with a titanium hue to complement the body color. In the cabin, the passengers get pampered by exclusive Alcantara sport seats. The interior door handles and gear stick get carbon fibre treatment. The Nordic gold accent is applied throughout the cabin. The limited edition R8 quattro is powered by the 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine developing 525bhp and 530Nm of torque. The engine is connected to the R tronic single-clutch automated manual gear box. The super car goes from 0 to 100km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds. Limited to only 30 units, the special edition R8 is going at 2,628,000 Yuan (S$518,542). With rising affluence in China, you can bet that this will not be the last dedicated R8 for the economic powerhouse.
  19. McLaren will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on 2 Sep 2013. However, the British supercar maker has planned a wide range of events throughout the year. As part of the celebration, McLaren has launched a 50th anniversary logo that will be put all their products including their team shirts and the new MP4-28 Formula 1 that will debut on 31 January. Founded back in 1963 by New Zealander Bruce McLaren, the team made its Formula 1 debut at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Since then, it has claimed 155 pole positions and won 182 races. "McLaren's history is long and storied, but McLaren's legacy is harder to define
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9vhsFsyGQ0 If you think that forklifting an Audi R8 onto the roof of Fullerton Hotel was impressive, wait till you hear this. Aston Martin, in celebration of its 100th year since inception, dropped in a Vanquish onto the helipad of Dubai's Buri Al Arab hotel before showing if off to a group of dignitaries. At 321m, the Buri Al Arab hotel is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island 280m from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Also as part of the British carmaker's 100th year celebration, the Vanquish, Rapide, V8 Vantage and DB9 will all be offered with a limited production Centenary Edition model with just 100 units. Since the star of this blog post is the Vanquish, its Centenary Edition comes with a special graduated paint finish, which adds 18 hours to the 50-hour paint process. Under the hood is a 6.0-litre V12 which makes 565bhp and 457Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
  21. When it comes to exotic performance cars, many would not expect a country like Mexico to manufacture such models. But in fact, there is a small company there, that builds sports cars - known as Mastretta Cars. Currently, the company has only one sports car model which is the MXT (above) and recently, they have unveiled a more hardcore version of the MXT; the MXT-R. Aesthetically, there are not many differences between the MXT-R and its standard sibling. The MXT-R is fitted with a front splitter, a huge spoiler at the back and aerodynamic side skirts. The added exterior modifications are hugely inspired by a track-only model, known as the MXR, that the company is scheduled to release at the end of this year, The MXT-R is powered by a 2.0-litre Ford Ecoboost engine that delivers around 300bhp and the engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission. Although other performance figures were not revealed, the car is said to be able to complete the century sprint in less than 5.5 seconds. The car
  22. Ferrari CEO has personally put down speculation on whether the brand will build a four door car just like its arch rival Porsche. Speaking to automotorundsport.de, Luca Di Montezemolo said: "Ferrari is all about sportiness in the most pure form of the word, and that doesn't involve SUV's or four-door saloons. A Ferrari can't have more than two doors." Perhaps, if one insists of getting a four-door Ferrari, the nearest thing he can settle for is the Maserati Quattroporte or the 2014 Ghibli sedan, which is the upcoming entry-level sedan for the Italian brand. Montezemolo added that the California (above) is as low as they are willing to go. About 70% of the buyers of the California are first time Ferrari owners and Ferrari feels that it is attracting enough new buyers and hence a cheaper model is unnecessary. Ferrari should be praised for sticking to its guns in spite of the market trends. Brand image is definitely more important than bottom line to the prancing horse.
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M14raMbpGg8 Mercedes has recently released the details of the 2013 E 63 AMG which include a series of high resolution photos. However, stationary photos do not do justice to the storming machine. Rejoice as Mercedes has now uploaded promotional videos of the top-of-the range E-Class in saloon and estate body styles. The videos mainly show the cars tearing down a race track and drifting along the way. Styling details of the exterior and interior are highlighted as well. The 2013 E 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine with output boosted to 550bhp and 720Nm of torque. A more powerful S-model with the same capacity is rated at 557bhp and 800Nm and it goes from 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds. Both versions are fitted with the AMG Speedshift seven-speed automatic transmission. To keep the E 63 AMG rooted to the ground, it comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive system as standard. Sit tight and enjoy the videos!
  24. After much anticipation and speculation, the 2014 Mercedes E 63 AMG has finally show its face in an official photo alongside with its lesser brethrens that include the sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible variants. The hottest version of the E-Class range is expected to be powered by the existing 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbo which is good for 518bhp and 699Nm of torque. A performance package is available which pumps up the engine to 550bhp and 799Nm of torque. The E 63 AMG will be presented at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show. A statement from Mercedes reads, "Not only will we introduce the E-Class Saloon, Estate, Coupe and Cabriolet, but also the E 63 AMG model, now available in a 4MATIC version and, of course, the new four-door coupe, the CLA." 4Matic is the name of an AWD four-wheel drive system developed and used by Mercedes-Benz. Like the regular E-Class saloon, the E 63 AMG has a re-designed single headlamp unit. However, it sports a more aggressive front bumper that houses huge air intakes on both sides.
