  1. The roof and wing would be carbon fiber to save weight. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/578238/toyota-grmn-supra-rumor-530-hp/ The rumor mill is grinding away again about the Toyota Supra getting a high-performance GRMN variant. Japan's Spyder7 claims the sporty model uses a variant of the BMW S58 engine from the M3 and M4 that allegedly produces 533 horsepower (397 kilowatts). The more powerful Supra would allegedly exclusively be available with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, according to Spyder7's rumor. The GRMN would be rear-wheel drive in standard form, but all-wheel drive might be an option. The GRMN Supra would reportedly gain a hood with a scoop to send cool air to the engine. There would also be a more aggressive front fascia. The roof and rear wing are allegedly carbon fiber. The meaner Supra might arrive as soon as early 2023, according to this rumor. At least in Japan, pricing would start at around 10 million yen ($80,812 at current exchange rates). It's worth noting that Spyder7 doesn't cite a specific source for where this info comes from. A translation of the story simply says that the details are "based on the latest information obtained." We have to take things with a grain of salt for now. Rumors about the GRMN have circulated for years. Most of them suggest the hotter model would use the BMW S58 powerplant. Although, the older reports say the mill would have 503 hp (375 kW) like in the Competition variants of the M3 and M4. Other reports about the Supra's future indicate that a variant with a six-speed manual is coming for the six-cylinder, too. The three-pedal layout might even be available as soon as the 2023 model. The evidence comes from screenshots that appear to possibly be from an internal communication showing the changes for the new model year. However, anyone could make images like this, so we can't put all of our faith into their accuracy. The screenshots indicated Toyota's official announcement of the six-speed Supra was coming on April 28. Production would start in Austria in July, and the vehicles would begin arriving in showrooms in October. At least in Japan, there would allegedly be a special Supra with the six-speed manual. The Matte White Edition would have an exclusive exterior color and tan leather for the interior upholstery. What! I hope this is real!
  2. Here's more reason to miss your favourtie bite of delicious McSpicy. McDonalds is collaborating with Toyota Gazoo Racing to bring these Toyota GR Supra scale models with what looks like each purchase of fries or a Big Mac. (I'm just guessing from their Japanese site) And at ¥220 and ¥370 respectively, we think that's mighty good value! (Again, guessing from the Japanese website) The model appears to only be available in Japan (as you might have guessed, but we hope not for long!) but for all those that need their McDonald's fix, there's a mighty delicious video of Toyota's 'Drift Twins' Daigo Saito and Nobuteru Taniguchi going sideways around a little Macs, embedded for your convenience above. Imagine showing up to your nearest Maccies in one of these. Yeah the mad things people will do to get some fries. We cannot wait for this circuit breaker to end. Check out the scale model's promo site here.
  3. Watch Us Fix Toyota Supra's Most Annoying Problem with Cardboard and a Roll of Tape source: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a30380806/toyota-supra-wind-noise-problem-fixed/ The Supra suffers from buffeting with the windows down. Our solution? Homemade A-pillar vortex generators. We're big fans of the Supra around here, as evidenced by its presence on the 10Best list. But no car is perfect, and the Supra exhibits one particularly aggravating tendency: severe buffeting with the windows down. It starts at about 45 mph and then steadily intensifies. By 50 mph, it feels like you're in a four-door where someone suddenly opened a rear window—there's a rhythmic bass-drum flutter accompanied by the unpleasant sensation that your eardrums are trying to escape into the slipstream. watch the video here. A few years back, our own John Pearley Huffman wrote a piece explaining why this happens. Basically: if cars are well sealed and have clean, controlled air flowing past the windows, they'll be more susceptible to the Helmholtz Resonance, which is the fancy science name for that throbbing wind noise that causes you to mash the rear window button while screaming, "Why are you even rolling the window down back there? It's 27 degrees out!" Kids love to set up a good Helmholtz Resonance. You usually deal with the problem by rolling down the opposite window. But that doesn't help in the Supra—the problem is at its worst with both windows all the way down. But if the airflow over the window openings is the problem, then that suggests a simple solution: disrupt that airflow. To do that, I decided to fashion makeshift vortex generators out of some spare cardboard left over from a flat-pack basketball hoop. Now, before all the aeronautical engineers chime in and claim that you can't make vortex generators out of cardboard and tape, let me point out that I have only a very rudimentary grasp on how these things work, and anybody with airplane wing problems would be best served consulting someone else. But I do know that the Civic Type R has vortex generators on the trailing edge of the roof, with the idea that they detach the air from the rear window and keep it up high, where it can act on the wing. Hey, I want to get air away from the glass, too! So let me tape a row of shark teeth to the A-pillar. And, because this is a Supra, your modification decision tree inevitably includes the question, "What would Ludacris do?" The answer, in this case, is that he'd paint his vortex generators neon green. Good call, Luda! With these handsome and understated aftermarket aero devices firmly taped to the windshield, I set off to test my theory. At 40 mph, I rolled the windows down and gingerly accelerated into the Helmholtz Zone. And . . . no buffeting! I went a little faster, settling in at 50 mph, and to my surprise the Supra cabin was serene. The cardboard air disturbers actually worked. Perhaps they weren't working as actual vortex generators, but the thesis held: If a resonance depends on a rhythmic cycle, then introducing some chaos might just prevent that cycle from getting established in the first place. In layman's terms, I made the air go all kablooie to who knows where. And it was effective, although we have to add that we don’t know how much our homemade contraptions hurt fuel economy. At the Supra launch, Toyota engineers told everyone that they expected the car to be modded. Well, here you go, Supra owners! Effective as they are beautiful, our A-pillar flow-messer-uppers are your next aftermarket must. They might even work in other colors, too.
  4. Not only is Gazoo Racing the face of Toyota's motorsports endeavours, it is also an important arm that helps to improve Toyota's lineup of cars. Here's what Gazoo Racing is all about. Toyota has been deeply involved in motorsports throughout the years. In fact, Toyota has an illustrious motorsport history that traces all the way back to the early 1970s. Toyota won its first-ever world championship title with the Toyota Celica in the 1990 World Rally Championship (WRC). It then went on to snag the 1993 title as well. Toyota's success was not limited to the WRC, the Toyota GT-One was a formidable Le Mans' racer in the 1990s, which held the lap record for the Circuit de la Sarthe up until 2006. Additionally, Toyota was also involved in NASCAR as well as the pinnacle of motorsports - Formula One. In more recent times, The Japanese carmaker has been concentrating its motorsports effort under the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand to much success. Gazoo Racing snagged the World Manufacturers' Champion in the 2018 World Rally Championship, a one-two finish at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race as well as the current fastest lap record at the Circuit de la Sarthe with the TS050 Hybrid LMP1 race car. From circuits to the streets By competing under extreme conditions at motorsports events around the world, Toyota Gazoo Racing has developed the technology and passion to make better cars. The extreme environment of racing makes it the ideal training ground, between the occurrence of unexpected events and the split-second important decisions that are made, both drivers and the cars are pushed to the limit. These experiences inspire and push the development of Toyota cars. As Toyota Gazoo Racing continually fine tunes and improve its skills in car development to maintain their dominance in motorsports, this experience and innovation is also shared with the larger Toyota entity to create 'ever better' cars for the drivers like you and I. Toyota create cars that drivers feel comfortable in, this is as important on the street as on race tracks. A race driver will only be able to perform when they can communicate with the vehicle using all their senses. Likewise, a driver-centric car will not only be comfortable, but also safe and enjoyable to drive on the streets. The result of this can be seen in the newly released GR Supra, which is designed with sports performance and dynamics in mind. The most gruelling of tests brings out the maximum potential The Nurburgring, also known as 'The Green Hell' is an extremely challenging circuit located in the northwest of Germany. The Nurburgring consists of two tracks, the 5.1km Grand Prix track that hosts F1 and World Endurance Championship (WEC) races and the 20.8km Nordschleife. The Nordscheleife has a layout that resembles European back roads, apart from the fact that it is a whopping 20.8km long, it also features more than 170 corners - more than ten times the amount of corners on Japan's Fuji Speedway circuit, as well as a maximum elevation difference of 300m. It is littered with low speeds as well as extremely high speed sections. Due to its challenging and gruelling nature, the Nurburgring demands the most out of not just the drivers, but also the cars that run on it. As such it is known for single-lap time trials carried out by production cars to show their prowess. Manufacturers often develop their cars on the Nurburgring while attempting to best one another by setting the best record. Toyota Gazoo Racing started competing in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring from 2007. By competing in the world's most demanding race, Toyota is not only able to refine its cars, people and teams, it also enables them to experience and craft a unique flavour of its car that had been perfected through the races. Naturally, many of Toyota's sports models were refined at the Nurburgring, this includes the revered A80 Supra, Altezza, 86 as well as the all new Toyota GR Supra. In recent years, this treatment has also trickled down to standard models such as the C-HR. Journey on the pursuit of making a better car Toyota Gazoo Racing embarked on Toyota's five Continents Drive Project in 2014. Toyota's employees drove through Australia in 2014, North America in 2015, Latin America in 2016, Europe in 2017, Africa in 2018 and finally for 2019 - Asia, starting from the Middle East and eventually back to Tokyo just in time for the 2020 Olympic Games. This project stems from Toyota's belief that each road trains it to build better cars. They believe the road is the greatest teacher, showing what a car should be like - roads build people, and people build cars, which is why testing is also done on different kinds of roads around the world, as each road has their intrinsic differences and poses different challenges. Traversing through the different continents, Toyota's drivers have been amazed by the importance of a car's performance. In the wilderness, the car's performance and reliability can mean the difference between life and death. Travelling through the continents also puts Toyota cars to the test in situations that you and I face daily, such as congested traffic in city streets - the cars have to be able to withstand the heat and start-stop driving conditions. As a matter of fact, Akio Toyoda, the President of Toyota Motor Corporation also takes part in the drive. He also competes in rallies and other races that Toyota takes part in, striving to create better-driving cars through the experience gained. By driving through these roads, the drivers are able to experience intense stimulation of all senses - something that can't be replicated on test courses and race tracks. Such a drive project not only tests Toyota's cars to the limit, they also provide a valuable experience for Toyota's drivers and technicians, which in turn aids in the development of Toyota cars.
  5. You've seen the meme, you know what it is, we review the new Toyota Supra! But just in case you haven't see how beautiful the new car is... ...in glorious red "Without Supra, I couldn't be master driver..." NANI!? What the hell is James up to this time!? With the Supra's 290-litre boot, it seems like James is a little afraid to get in the boot, so we put 'fun-sized' Julian in instead! Does he fit though? And more importantly, do they like the car? Or do they not? Only one way to find out! Watch the video to find out!
  6. The Toyota Supra and BMW M2 Competition might be fighting it out in different market segments but they actually are quite similar on paper. Both are rear wheel driven and they are both powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six that will allow them to sprint to hundred kilometres per hour in almost the same time (4.2 vs 4.3 seconds). So on a drag strip which one would be a faster car? Shot by Cars.co.za, one might think that the 404bhp M2 Competition will win with its additional power and torque but the 335bhp Supra is actually the lighter car, allowing Supra to put down its power more efficiently. In the video, we can see that that is what happened as Supra launched better despite it having problems putting down its power. However, as the speed rises, the superior power and torque figures of the M2 Competition meant that the Supra's advantage was short-lived. In the end, the BMW won with a quarter-mile time of 13.36 seconds while the Toyota did it in 13.44 seconds.
  7. Shooting of the Fast and Furious 9 has already commenced and someone has spotted the new Toyota Supra on the set of the car action movie. Filming is currently taking place at Tbilisi, Georgia, where some action-packed stunts have taken place. Thanks a Instagram user, we can also see that a orange Supra will feature in the 9th installment of the movie, a nod to the original that was driven by the late Paul Walker. Other than that, the article on Car and Driver also reported that a black 1970 Dodge Charger was present on the set. You can bet that the car will be driven by Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto. Filming of Fast and Furious 9 will visit to a number of other countries before it wraps up, with the release date set on 10th of April 2020.
  8. If you are in the market for a sports car, this is one of the best time to get one as there are plenty of fresh choices around. See how the perform in a drag race together. Shot by Carwow, we have four cars in this race with the first one being the 365bhp Porsche Cayman GTS with a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four as its powertrain. It is the default class leader and is expected to win but with a 394bhp Audi TT RS Roadster included in the test, it might have its work cut out. Of course, we have to have the Toyota Supra included in the test and with a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six that is believed to be underrated at 335bhp, it should not do too bad. Lastly, the guys at Carwow threw in a tuned Alpine A110 as a wild card but with 'only' 300bhp thanks to Litchfield, it looks like it would be last in the race. Or would it be...
  9. Following the likes of Milltek Sport and HKS, Akrapovic has launched its own exhaust system for the new Toyota Supra. According to the exhaust company, the entire system is made from lightweight titanium, meaning after extended period of use, the tailpipes will likely turn into a violet-blue hue as the heat of the exhaust react with titanium. It is not known how much lighter the system is compared to the stock set up. Of course, with a freer-flowing exhaust, power output is also expected to be increased. As an option, the exhaust system can also be fitted with an optional Sound Kit which will allow drivers to adjust the volume of the sound on the fly. For those who want to make even more power, adding the company's stainless steel Evolution link pipe set might free up some more horse.
  10. Toyota has announced that it will put a good amount of third-generation and fourth-generation Supra parts back into production. At a recent Supra event in Japan, Gazoo Racing company President Shigeki Tomoyama revealed the news which will make many fans happy. However, the company did not specify which parts will be put back into production. “We can not answer about specific parts at this time, but we will make every effort to meet the expectations of owners,” Tomoyama said. The program is called the ‘GR Heritage Parts Project’ and is similar to a program launched by Nissan and Mazda. Nissan has been making various better-known weaker parts for its R32, R33 and R34 generation Skyline GT-R for a couple of years already while Mazda has recently begun offering new parts for the first-generation MX-5.
  11. Toyota will begin reproducing parts for the MkIII A70 and MkVI A80 Supra Sources: https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/22/toyota-a70-a80-supra-parts-reproduction/ Toyota didn't specify which parts, but this is an exciting development It seems the Japanese sports car wars are heating up once again, after nearly a 20-year hiatus, particularly with Toyota reviving the Supra. Not too long ago, Nissan's Nismo performance and heritage department recently revealed its efforts to reproduce classic parts for some of its vintage Skyline models. Now, it seems Toyota is following suit as Japanese Nostalgic Car reports that Toyota will soon start remaking parts for its MkIII A70 and MkIV A80 Supra at the Japanese launch of the current model last week. Word came from head of Gazoo Racing, Shigeki Tomoyama, one of the developmental partners to the new Supra revival. Tomoyama announced the "GR Heritage Parts Project" at the event, which took place at Toyota's Megaweb showroom in Odaiba. "We can not answer about specific parts at this time, but we will make every effort to meet the expectations of owners," Tomoyama told the press during his presentation. The launch of the GR Heritage Parts Project adds Toyota to the list of manufacturers rebooting the production of parts for heritage models, which already included Nissan, Mazda, and Honda. Nissan scored highly among Japanese sports car enthusiasts and tuners when it announced it would be reproducing parts for its R32 Skyline GT-R. More recently, the list of reproductions expanded to the R33 and R34 generation models. In the mix was the remanufacturing of its RB26 straight-six motor from the famed GT-R. While not a complete motor, the remake is essentially the short block. Prior, Nissan also announced other engine parts, such as the head, the original engine harness, and also the fuel pump assembly. The list of parts reproductions also includes various body parts and other hard-to-get items, putting some relief to those currently building or restoring vintage models. Tomoyama's announcement wasn't specific as to which parts will be seeing reproduction. However, if they do end up getting around to remanufacturing parts for Toyota's equally legendary 1JZ and 2JZ motors, fans are certainly going to be drooling. "The new Supra is a great car," Tomoyama further commented, "But I don't intend to let go of this A80 Supra in my lifetime."
  12. It was only a matter of time. This, ladies and gentlemen, will decimate all. Welcome to the first new A90 Toyota Supra that’s had its BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbo swapped out for that engine: Toyota’s 2JZ from the Mk IV Supra. Champion Japanese drifter Daigo Saito is the man who has done the honourable thing by dragging the Supra right back to the Nineties, building this special drift A90 for the upcoming D1 Grand Prix. It’ll be unveiled in full in a couple of weeks’ time, but for now, we have a couple of details. Such as the 2JZ straight-six heart producing a nice, healthy 800bhp with help from turbo specialists HKS. And the fact the entire build took just 42 days, “unheard of before”, according to its builders. “I’m so happy to be able to convert Supra into a drift car for the first time in the world,” explains an exuberant Saito-san. He notes the car’s short wheelbase and compact body allow him to control it more “freely”. We suspect having a turbo straight-six with 800bhp makes it feel quite free also.

  14. The Toyota Supra is a sports car/grand tourer produced from 1978 to 2002. As an iconic sports car, the Supra has appeared in numerous video games and movies. Some of the most notable appearances include Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, and Need for Speed series of video games as well as The Fast and the Furious film series. Let's take a look back at the history of the Toyota legend. The first generation Supra was born in 1978 and was based largely upon the Toyota Celica liftback, but was longer by about 130mm. Toyota's original plan for the Supra at this time was to market it as a competitor to the very popular Datsun Z-car. In late 1981, Toyota completely redesigned the Supra for its 1982 production year. Still based around the Celica platform, there were several key differences seen in the Mark II, most notably the design of the front end and fully retractable pop-up headlights. Starting in mid-1986, the Supra became a separate model from the Celica. In turn, Toyota also stopped using the prefix Celica and began just calling the car Supra. The Mark III Supra launched in February 1986 with an all new coupe body fractionally shorter than the outgoing model. We see some similarities with the Nissan 180SX and 240SX here... did Nissan lift some design off Toyota? The fourth generation and last Supra was first unveiled at the 1993 Chicago Motor Show after a four-year developmental gestation. Unlike the previous three generations, the car's proportions and flowing design owed more to the 2000GT. Thanks to a long, low bonnet line and high-rise optional rear spoiler, it was nevertheless aerodynamically efficient and clearly aimed at delivering a much higher top speed. The Mark IV Supra was by far the most successful in motorsport and also the one that we fondly remembered. The model won its class in the Swiss Mountain Races and competed in two years of Le Mans. More impressively, it charged up Pikes Peak, was competitive in American SCCA racing, and became a dominant force in the All-Japan GT Championships (JGTC) from 1995 all the way through to 2003. Despite these successes, however, times were changing and worldwide vehicle purchasing trends were slowly moving away from sports cars like the Supra. The Supra was discontinued in the U.K. in late 1996 and by the end of 1998, the Supra's four-generation run in North America had also come to an end. Production continued in Japan until August 2002, ceasing owing to restrictive emission standards. There has been plenty of speculation as to the return of the Supra nameplate in recent years and the good news is that the legend may well make a comeback. No clues as to how it may look, but there have been words that it may look like the above rendered image or the FT-HS hybrid sports car concept (below). Toyota Motor Corp's Chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, has also said that he wants the sports car the company is co-developing with BMW to be a mid-sized vehicle comparable to the discontinued Supra. Uchiyamada also added on that Toyota's next sports car should be like the Supra so that it doesn't overlap with the 86 coupe (above). Should Uchiyamada, who's leading the negotiations with BMW, get his wish, Toyota would be reviving a model that was last produced in 1999 after a 20-year run. We do hope that the rumours comes true, as well as seeing the Supra land on our shores.
  15. BMW and Toyota recently signed an agreement and part of it will see both automakers working together on a new sports car architecture. From this architecture, each automaker will release a new model. For BMW, the platform will be used for the next generation Z4 and for Toyota, it will be used for the next generation Supra. But, the supposedly new platform isn't exactly new. The new platform that will be used for the new Z4 and Supra is the same rear wheel drive platform that underpins the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ and the platform will go through some further development to suit the new car
  16. After the release of the Toyota 86 and rumours of a Supra successor set to be released in a few years time, there is no doubt that things are changing in the Japanese auto firm. Once known for releasing boring cars, now the company is back on track with a new sports model and it seems that we are going to see more sports orientated models from Toyota. Some of us may have already known about a Supra successor that is slated for a release roughly in 2015. Rumored reports have mentioned that the car will be based on the Gazoo Racing Sports Hybrid Concept. But, latest reports have stated that Toyota is planning on a three tier sports model line-up; with a new sports car sitting below the 86 and the Supra successor above it. Toyota
  17. Toyota Motor Corporation was once known for producing some of the best sports cars and during one moment, they fed consumers with beige, drab looking models. With the recent release of several sports-orientated models such as the Lexus LFA, Toyota 86 and Lexus IS-F (there are even plans to release a Lexus GS-F); it seems that the aspiration to produce stylish sports orientated cars has been renewed again at the Japanese firm. But Toyota
  18. [extract] Ever since the release of the Toyota 86, many rumours have surfaced which mentioned about Toyota
  19. When I first heard about Toyota planning to release the successor to the Supra, I was a little skeptical. Rewind back to 2008, when the global economic was gripped with a financial crisis; many automakers were in debt, planned models were put on hold or totally scrapped and some automakers decided to retire certain models and focus on more popular, sellable ones. But it seems that everything is going well with Toyota, judging from the rendered images of the new Toyota Supra. Even though it is still in conceptual form, every JDM fan (including me) wants to see it in production. Toyota recently announced that a new Toyota Supra is in the making. A production version is even being speculated for market entry in 2014. Toyota is keeping plans under very tight wraps for the moment though, so we
  20. Wah!! Nice, very nice car!! White in colour one. Reminds me of the Mk III that was on sale in sgcarmart by eurospeed auto quite sometime ago. Looks exactly the same. Maybe the person bought the car?
