  1. Toyota has revealed a radical high-riding sports coupe concept ahead of its official unveiling at the Paris motor show next week. The Japanese brand has released two images but limited details of its C-HR concept, a car that is said to preview a new compact SUV destined for production. While its sleek three-door body hints at what a jacked-up next-generation Toyota 86 could look like, the C-HR is bound to be a more conventional five-door when it eventually becomes showroom ready as a model to sit below the popular RAV4 and a rival for the likes of the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur. It has yet to confirm full details on the car's mechanical underpinnings or powertrain, but says it will feature a hybrid powerplant and introduce a new "diamond architecture" styling theme. It says the C-HR's soft overall form is contrasted by definitive crease lines "to represent the faceted surfaces of a highly-durable, precision-cut gemstone". Although Toyota says the C-HR shares the mechanics of a Prius, it hasn't yet revealed much in the way of technical details. Only three basic dimensions of the two-door vehicle are specified: a length of 4350mm, a width of 1500mm and height of 2640mm. This suggests that this future SUV will be smaller than the current Toyota RAV4.
  2. This post first appear in Asiaone Forum on 9 September, 2011. What car? 2012 Volvo XC90 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_XC90 What is it? America was still reeling from the horrific events of 9/11. US Marines were pursuing Al Queda operatives in Afganistan, Saddam Hussien was still the tyrant over Iraq and Volvo launched a mid-size luxury SUV, the XC90, to worldwide acclaim. Yes, it was that long ago. The car you are looking at in these pictures is essentially the same one from 2002. Usama bin Laden might be long gone but the XC90 soldiers on and receives a facelift while Volvo mulls over its long over due successor. What is new?The SUV receives a new 3-spoke steering wheel, standard interior aluminum trim and a new instrumentation inspired by watch dials with white lighting. All 2012 XC90 has Daytime Running Light (DRL) fitted alongside new taillamp with dual light guides, LED brake lights and six-spoke 18-inch wheel in silver-matt finish. The rear tailgate gets a split function with upper and lower opening sections and an all-new load cover. There is also a new, color-coordinated lower door moulding and redesigned bumper bar in silver metallic finish. Executive variant gets soft leather seats with ventilation and massage functions. R-Design XC90 gets redesigned interior upholstery, new inlays and door panels. It also receives a ‘bespoke chassis’ with 19-inch wheels. Your son or daughter might have not remembered of the original XC90 if he or she's 12th this year. That's Volvo's mid-size SUV for you. Next year, this is all about to change because there is an all-new XC90 developed under Geely's ownership of the Swede brand as it goes on sale after this year's October Paris motor show debut. The second-gen XC90 sits on the automaker's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which will underpin all future large Volvos. It will run exclusively on new 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines and will be offered in optional front-wheel and standard all-wheel drive variants. Plus, Apple's CarPlay interface will appear on the XC90's 9.3-inch center stack portrait touchscreen.
  3. Hihi, any Sx4 owners care to come in and share abt your experience from dealing with CM to finally driving the car?
  4. Currently i am driving a GS300 but i find sedan boring. The only reason I bought it in the first place is the brand, the smoothness and quietness of engine and to try out luxury car. Now i tried driving a captiva in australia and love SUV(i have always love SUV). Like the height, the hugeness. As i am quite tall, SUV height is also more comfortable. Now i am in dilemma should i sell trade my GS for Captiva? Seems to be a downgrade. Any advice anyone?
  5. As per the link How much do you think will be reasonable
  6. With a new Land Rover Defender due in 2017 (the current one bows out of the market next year), Mercedes-Benz will reportedly introduce a major update to its G-Class around the same time in order to keep the rivalry between the ultimate utilities alive. While the new Defender will be an all-new model, complete with new styling, engines and underpinnings, the G-Class is only expected to receive an update, though the changes to the vehicle are said to be so extensive they could be considered a complete redesign. The information was revealed by insiders to Drive, which reports that engineers are focused on improving the G-Class’s stability, both on and off the road. Expect to see a wider track, made necessary by wider wheels and new suspension designed to boost interior space. Increased aluminum and high-strength steel will also be utilized to help shed weight, possibly reducing the current model’s 5,665-lb curb weight by as much as 440 pounds. Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force off-road concept The updated G-Class will also benefit from Mercedes-Benz’s latest tech, including electronic power steering, new driver assistance features and the latest in connectivity and infotainment. Interestingly, we hear that 2012’s Ener-G-Force concept car will influence some of the vehicle’s exterior styling, although the classic boxy look should remain. As for the powertrains, look for the German automaker’s new straight-six gasoline and diesel units. These will displace 3.0 liters and deliver up to 360 horsepower in some guises thanks to turbocharging and direct fuel injection. Of course, more powerful AMG variants will still be on offer, as they currently account for more than 50 percent of G-Class sales worldwide.
  7. Dear all, Need some advice here. I'm thinking of change from my current sedan (Mazda3) to a 7 seater, to cater my bigger kids and extended family. We also plan to do road trips to Malaysia or even Thailand more frequently in the coming years. Due to budget, I'll only consider 2nd hand. Initially I was thinking of the popular choices, either a WISH or a STREAM, more inclined to the WISH. But I'm not sue whether a SUV will be more suited when drive to Malaysis/Thailand where road conditions may be too rough for an MPV. Then I'm concerned with the service and fuel costs that SUV may incur more than MPV, and the noise level. So I summarised the pros and cons of the two options: MPV pros: cheaper, better FC, comfortable(?), quite. cons: not suitable for bumpy roads when trip to some parts in north. SUV pros: good for road trip. cons: rough ride(?), more costly (fuel and servicing), noisier(I guess?) Not sure if my summary is correct. For MPVs, my top candidates are WISH/STREAM, then some other less popular choices such as Grandis, Mazda5, Touran. The former are actually not cheap compared to the later due to its popularity but in the long run I think the overall cost in servicing will be less than later? For SUVs I'm looking at Fortuner, Santa Fe, Captiva, Crossroad. If WISH/STREAM has no problem for road trips to Malaysia/Thailand then I can settle with either one. But if they are not, then I'll probably choose an SUV, with priority given to reliability, quietness, FC in that order. Hope can get more info and suggestions for these cars listed. thx! ps: a side question, is it possible to install roof racks on WISH/STREAM? will it damage the car in someway or it's a standard add-on for any car?
  8. BMW has finally released details of the X4. But while pictures of it have surfaced, those who wish to get up close and personal will have to wait till end of next month, when the car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show. It is not hard to see why BMW terms it 'Sports Activity Coupe' or SAC. The X4, in essence, is a slantback X3. The X4 also shares its technical blueprint with its 'smaller' brother. Dimensionally, the X4 will be 14mm longer and sits 37mm closer to the ground than the X3. BMW claims that the X4 will also have a more sporty suspension. All variants will come standard with xDrive - the marque's intelligent all-wheel drive system. Powertrain wise, the X4 will receive a host of engine options - up to three petrol and three diesel variants. The top-of-line xDrive35i will have a 3.0-litre in-line six engine capable of 300bhp and 400Nm of torque. The X4 will also boasts decent utility - with a 500 litres boot that can be further expandable to 1,400 litres.
  9. Jeep has been the definitive name in the world of 4x4. Its offerings are most fondly remembered for their off-road prowess - think Wranger - and even the latest Grand Cherokee oozes character that is unmistakably Jeep. And it seems that Jeep has not forgotten its off-roader roots - even when making a luxury SUV. The Summit is the range-topping variant of the Grand Cherokee, which has recently undergone a facelift. And it is not hard to spot the aesthetic changes from first look. The result is very pleasing indeed - but not without the distinctive look that is instantly recognisable as a Jeep, of course. Not surprisingly, the latest Grand Cherokee has adopted LED daytime-running lamps, which helps it to stay modern among competitors. The shiny 20-inch rims, though, hints at its luxury motives. It is on the inside where most of the efforts in this facelift has gone to. Drivers receive a TFT screen, which can serve as a display for many of the 4x4's technological gadgetries, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (above). A total of five different ride height settings are also available. The lowest grants easier access and loading by lowering the vehicle by 40mm, and the tallest setting will allow up to 290mm of ground clearance. The permanent all-wheel drive system also has a low range setting for more serious off roading.
  10. Mind-blowing car commercials that employ optical illusions and jaw-clenching stunts instead of computer animation are becoming the norm these days, and Honda joins the crowd in its latest European commercial for the CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC Diesel. http://dai.ly/x164f5t In the advertisment, the Japanese carmaker uses well-placed props and well-drawn imagery to trick viewers into seeing the 'impossible'. Cool. http://dai.ly/x16ia8m Now watch how they make it happen in an exclusive Behind-the-scenes video.
  11. Some cars, like whisky, just get better with age and the Range Rover is certainly one of them. The mother of all SUVs that you see here has lost some 420kgs from its previous model, thanks to the lightweight all-aluminium monocoque body structure. From the beautifully grained leather to the metal finishing, the material selection and build quality is immaculate. Even the plastic and rubberised mouldings exude an impression of quality and luxury. With a formidable output of 503bhp and 625Nm of torque, throttle response from the 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged Rangie is lag-free while taking off from the line is monumental. The 0-100km/h timing of 5.4 seconds is formidably fast for an SUV. The Range Rover is like the sweet girl you knew back in secondary school, just that she has matured, lost a few pounds and has the right curves at the right places. She even carries herself with the kind of style that isn't overly exaggerated now. It just simply reminds you why you were attracted to her in the first place.
  12. If you're a fan of the Italian supercar brand Lamborghini, well, I believe you must have heard of the Urus, the SUV the Italian automaker is planning to build by 2016. It looks aggressive and attractive. However, you aren't likely to get your hands on one, at least not until 2016 at the earliest, even if you have the amount of money it demands, which is US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000). But worry not as the Italian automaker's parent company, Volkswagen (VW) has already given the green light for the mass production of the model. At least, that was stated by Rupert Stadler, Chairman of Audi AG, during the gala dinner of the Grande Giro 50th anniversary tour. For those who don't know, the Grande Giro was Lamborghini's celebration of its 50th anniversary which took place just recently. Nevertheless, if you don't think you can wait any longer, a Chinese automaker known as the Sichuan Yema - which means 'Mustang' - may have an interesting offer. The Chinese company is building an SUV with inspiration from the Lamborghini Urus. It seems that the Chinese version of the SUV may be using a platform similar to that of the Austin Rover Maestro. Two years ago, the company, based in Chengdu, South West China, made a purchase on the platform of the Austin Rover Maestro. Then, not long afterwards, the company began using the platform for its production models. However, since it isn't the actual Lamborghini Urus, I would suggest that you do not expect 100 percent similarity between the Chinese and the actual Italian version of the Urus SUV. Well, it isn't that the Chinese one is totally ugly. Looking at the sides, the sloping roof, and also the rear quarters, it does remind me of the actual Urus. However, the headlamps and taillights are kind of different from the real car. In addition to that, it is in your best interest that you do not expect such a powerful engine (potentially a 600bhp V12 engine) as that of the real Urus. Instead, the SUV from the Chinese 'Mustang' will carry a 1.5-litre engine from Japanese automaker Mitsubishi. This engine will help the Chinese version of the Urus to cruise around Chengdu with a total power output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. This SUV from Sichuan Yema is the company's latest SUV. Formerly, the company had also announced quite a lot of new models, all of which were SUVs. Just for your information, the licence possessed by Sichuan Yema only allows it to build SUVs. Unfortunately, keeping in mind that the Chinese automaker has never really managed to deliver their cars to the streets, I wonder if the same will happen to this latest Chinese Urus as well. If you want a comparison, the red SUV you can see in the images is the actual Lamborghini Urus SUV from Italy whereas the white one is its Chinese counterpart.
  13. The two alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were tracked by the police with the help of Mercedes' factory fitted GPS system in the hijacked 2013 M-Class. Mercedes-Benz USA was asked to locate the SUV using the Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance function on the crossover's 'mbrace2' telematics system. The owner of the M-Class is a 26-year old man whose car was stolen at a petrol station. He informed the police that his car could be tracked by Mercedes' satellite system. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO, Steve Cannon, tweeted, "Just found out that our mbrace2 technology in the stolen Mercedes helped locate the Boston terrorists! Thanks to our amazing law enforcement." Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman, Donna Boland, confirmed that Mercedes turned on the tracking feature after authenticating the request. Lesson of the day - use a 'not-so-advanced' vehicle when committing a crime.
  14. Italdesign Giugiaro - more commonly known as Italdesign - is a design and engineering company based in Italy and since August 9th (National Day) 2010, Lamborghini acquired 90.1 percent of the shares to the firm - which by extension means it belongs to Volkswagen. Volkswagen and Italdesign go a long way and the design firm has been responsible for the design of several notable Volkswagen vehicles including the first generation Volkswagen Golf (1974), Volkswagen Scirocco (1974) and Volkswagen Passat (1973). Quite recently Italdesign revealed the Parcour crossover that is powered by Lamborghini. It was named after the modern sport of - pioneered by the French group Yamakasi. Parkour focuses on moving around urban obstacles with speed and agility - though basically to me they are modern day, very flexible ninjas. Either way, the Parcour car has a coupe and roadster variant which fuses elements of crossovers, sports cars and the sharp styling expected of a modern Lamborghini. In fact, paint it orange, slap a raging bull logo and christen it with the name of a famous bull - and we have a striking Lamborghini CUV. The coupe and roadster have enough room for two and are powered by a 542bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine lifted from the parent company's Gallardo. The engine is mated to a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission that drives all four tyres on 22-inch rims. The concepts measure 4,530mm long, sit 2,070mm wide and stand 1,335mm tall and weigh just 1.5 tonnes. Italdesign believes the Parcour could hit 100km/h in a rather brisk 3.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 320km/h.
  15. PSA Peugeot Citroen revealed the group's new EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform 2) during their Innovation Day celebration. It will underpin the next generation Peugeot 308 and Citroen C4, as well as other models in the C and D segments. The French group has produced a video depicting the various advantages of the new platform. It even comes with a sound track befitting an action-packed movie. The EMP2 platform is very flexible and is suited for a wide range of body styles including SUVs, light commercial vehicles, hatchbacks, sedans and estates. Making use of high-strength steel, aluminum and composites, the EMP2 saves some 70kg over the current platform. The new platform promises to deliver increased safety, driving pleasure and comfort in addition to improved fuel efficiency. Having a highly adaptable single platform across its products is a clever cost-saving strategy for the loss-making Peugeot Citroen, which has been struggling to return to profitability amid weak demand in Europe.
  16. The current generation Toyota RAV4 has been around since late 2005 and many felt that it is about time Toyota releases a new model for it. In recent months, several images of the supposedly new RAV4 were leaked onto the internet. Toyota denied and refused to comment about the leaked images but it seems that the leaked images resembled very much like the real thing which was unveiled at the recent LA Auto Show. The fourth generation Toyota RAV4 made its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and the car will be made available by early next year. The new model will come in a variety of powertrains that will aid in engaging a true driving experience. One of the engines made available is a 2.5-litre four cylinder unit which produces 176bhp and 233Nm of torque. The V6 engine option previously offered will be discontinued. The standard four speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a six speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. The first and second gear ratios are optimised for urban driving. In order to keep engine revs lower at highway speeds and also enhance fuel usage, the fifth and sixth gears will be overdrives. The new RAV4 comes equipped with new technologies such as Sport Mode. These are enhancements made to suspension performance and the optimisation of the electric power steering. The spring rates and shock absorbers have been tuned to aid the vehicle's handling characteristics. The driver selectable Sport Mode also sharpens the transmission shift timing and action and also the throttle response. The electric power steering assist gives a firmer feel and better response to input. All new RAV4 comes with eight standard airbags and equipped with Toyota's various safety systems such as traction control, anti-lock braking system, enhanced vehicle stability control and smart stop technology. 17. The third generation Subaru Forester has been around for several years now and it is time for a new model. That model received numerous changes especially in terms of size. It is bigger in terms of dimensions and it looks more bulky compared to its predecessor. The new Forester now sits on a longer wheelbase and it is slightly longer, wider and taller. Although it may be bigger in dimensions but the new model still retains the overall look of the third generation model. Subaru has finally unveiled the fourth generation Forester, ahead of its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. The new model will be available with two types of engine options. Firstly, the naturally aspirated model (second image from top) comes with a 2.5-litre four cylinder Boxer engine. This engine makes around 170bhp and 235Nm of torque. The turbocharged variant (top most image) comes fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder Boxer engine which churns out around 250bhp and 350Nm of torque. The naturally aspirated model is fitted with either a six speed manual transmission or a Lineartronic CVT. The turbocharged model comes with a high-torque CVT gearbox with 6-speed and 8-speed manual modes and Hill Descent Control. Subaru
  18. [extract] Nissan has developed a fuel cell vehicle known as the Terra SUV concept that opens a path to zero-emissions future. The compact SUV exterior design expresses athletic eco-appeal with 'Modern Toughness' that the company is very much confident would appeal buyers, no matter for off-road or urban use. The Terra SUV concept is set to be unveiled at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show on Sep 27. The concept combines two of Nissan

  21. 13,172 units of the 2012 model year Audi Q5 crossovers that were built between 21 June 2011 to 9 December 2011 are being recalled in the US due to a defective sunroof glass panel, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). "Some vehicles may be equipped with a front sunroof glass panel that is susceptible to breakage in extremely cold weather/temperature conditions," said NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem. "Should the sunroof's glass break while the vehicle is in use, the falling glass could cut and injure the driver or passengers. It could also distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash." Audi first learnt about the problem from its dealers after a small number of vehicles came in during the 2011/2012 winter season with a broken panoramic sunroof. The company performed an analysis which indicated that very cold temperatures could increase the tensile stress, between the front sunroof glass panel and the frame, causing the glass to shatter. I believe this is caused by the contraction of the glass frame caused by the cold weather. Volkswagen Group of America said it is not aware of any claim of accident or injury caused by this issue in documentation filed with federal safety regulators. Audi dealers will replace the front sunroof glass panel free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on August 7.
  22. UK off-road specialist, Bowler Motorsport and Land Rover have announced their long partnership official. Bowler has been making off-road machines which are powered by Land Rover for over twenty years and has, during that time, enjoyed a fair bit of support from Land Rover. The agreement is not the beginning of an all-new relationship between the two companies. Instead, it merely turns a decades-old informal collaboration into an official partnership. One of Bowler's early offerings was an ARC-spec prototype which uses a Land Rover chassis converted to coil springs with a twin-carb engine (pictured above). Dubbed "Powered by Land Rover," it is aimed to ensure that Bowler has easy access to drivetrains, spare parts and other crucial components to develop its rally-bound SUVs. The very first SUV to wear the "Powered by Land Rover" badge is Bowler's first ever road going model, the EXR S. Bowler EXR The EXR S is powered by a remapped version of the Range Rover Sport's supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine. It churns out 550bhp and 623Nm of torque, which is enough to propel the 1814kg SUV from 0-100km in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that features steering wheel mounted shift paddles. Exteriorly, the EXR S looks like a two door variant of the Range Rover, a model that the company has not offered for quite some time. But don't be fooled by its ordinary looks. Under that shell, the EXR S rides on a race bred hydroformed chassis. Managing director of Bowler, Drew Bowler, commented, "We're delighted to announce this partnership, which brings very positive benefits to both Bowler and Land Rover. We've only ever used Land Rover powertrains, and this relationship will give us access to current Land Rover technologies, and a great platform from which to support our racing activities and develop future models." The EXR S is scheduled to make its worldwide debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. After the debut, the EXR S will be offered to the public for

  24. The Lamborghini Urus SUV concept debuted at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show with much anticipation and the car proved to be a big hit for the Italian automaker. The concept garnered much attention from all corners of the automotive industry; from enthusiasts up to rival auto companies. Lamborghini has mentioned that the car is pretty much on track for production but anyone who is interested in it has to wait until 2017, at the earliest. The reason for the delay is because the company has set some ambitious targets and this was revealed by Lamborghini
