  1. This Coupe styled SUV is suppose to be even larger than the X7, and come with an unusual tailpipe layout... The first sighting of the sports activity vehicle to slot above the BMW X7 happened last year, basically confirming that the biggest of the X models is indeed coming. However, Bavaria hasn't confirmed its arrival yet nor has it confirmed that it will indeed be called the X8. Expected to become the new flagship BMW SUV, the prototype here was spotted at the Nurburgring. Despite the bevy of claddings and concealment to hide its design, there are several cues here that tell us that this isn't the facelifted version of the X7 that we saw recently. The front looks flatter than the X7, while the bonnet has prominent lines and the lower intakes have been reshaped. The headlights are positioned lower than the current X7, though this aligns the alleged X8 with the upcoming X7 refresh in terms of headlamp design – albeit the X8 isn't showing any sign of a split-headlight design. And yes, the massive kidneys found on the X7 will likely appear on the X8 as well, given the spy shots that you see here.
  2. After 2 years of rumors and several CGIs, it is finally coming... Audi's new Q5 Sportback has been spotted ahead of its reveal later this year. This is the second SUV Sportback from Audi, the first being the Q3 Sportback, which was launched last year. When attached to an SUV, the Sportback name indicates a coupe-like roofline ending in a liftback, as opposed to the more upright tailgates traditionally found on SUVs. At the front, Audi has ditched the headlights of the standard Q5 in favor of ones more akin to those from the Q3 Sportback. This prototype also features a blacked-out front grille with a chrome surround as well as some dashes of silver around the edges of the front air intakes. As the Sportback in its name implies, Audi has overhauled the shape of the vehicle’s roof to give it that Coupe-like appearance. There is no camouflage per say at the rear but there is some tape over the taillights, hiding parts of their design. With that being said, it is clear that they too have been altered from the taillights of the normal Q5.

Dressed in a reflective platinum hue, the Infiniti QX60 Monograph previews a more upscale and commanding design for the brand's popular family-focused SUV. "We commenced the design of the Monograph knowing this was an opportune time to start a discussion about where we are planning to take the QX60 in the future and more broadly, where we are heading as a brand with our design language'" said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president, Global Design, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. More than a design study or concept, a "Monograph" provides a tangible insight into how Infiniti plans to transform a future model. The QX60 Monograph previews some of the proportions and design elements that will adorn the brand's future three-row SUV. Reimagining the future QX60 SUV Focused solely on the exterior, Infiniti designers imagined the QX60 Monograph as a sophisticated yet functional solution for a busy, modern family. The proportions include a wide stance, sleek greenhouse, horizontal shoulder line and muscular wheel arches. The combination of which creates a commanding posture and defined SUV persona. "In crafting this Monograph, we wanted to change the tonality of the QX60 and transform the nameplate from a sculptural and architectural point of view. We raised the visual center of gravity, giving it a strong, straight shoulder line that carries through to the hood, with a higher, more prominent grille, and longer-looking cabin to deliver a sense of muscularity and a commanding presence" Albaisa said. The current QX60 is popular with families and is known for offering spacious packaging and comfortable, dedicated three-row seating. The proportions of the QX60 Monograph illustrate Infiniti's intention to maintain these strengths while transforming the model with a more aerodynamic, muscular silhouette. Viewed from the side, the Monograph shows off its powerful horizontal hood, muscular fenders and long wheelbase. Paired with the gentle rake of the A-pillar and tapered, teardrop-like glasshouse, the result is a long sweeping, sophisticated profile. Embossed with the Infiniti name, QX60 Monograph features large alloy wheels that fill the pronounced fenders and reinforce the performance-inspired aesthetic. At the rear, the wide body and track, paired with horizontal window line give QX60 Monograph a sense of poise and stability. The high shoulder line raises its visual center of gravity. The roof flows into a subtly integrated rear roof spoiler - also in gloss black - to further enhance the car's aerodynamic appearance. Each of these measures create QX60 Monograph's strong, stable stance. Reflecting Movement "The platinum paint on the QX60 Monograph projects a sense of warmth. The highly reflective nature mimics the qualities of liquid metal, allowing the surface of the body to capture the shadows and lights of the environment in which it is displayed creating a sense of dynamism" said Taisuke Nakamura, senior design director, Infiniti Global Design, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. The black roof creates a strong contrast to the rich body color for a dramatic visual statement. The pillars, roof, front, side and rear glass all seamlessly connect - giving a panoramic feel to the cabin and promoting a sense of openness. Slim-line roof rails provide a practical counterpoint to the QX60 Monograph's sleek, sporty proportions. Japanese Inspirations "The QX60 Monograph embodies the Japanese concept of `Ma,' a sense of minimalism where designers seek harmony, adding just the right amount of elements with very specific meaning to create something special. This is evident on the body, where at a glance it is simple, but when you get closer, you see that there are elements that are playing against each other in a sense of harmony." Albaisa explains. The intricate folds of traditional Japanese origami were the inspiration for the inner mesh of the signature `Double Arch' Infiniti grille. The result is a two-dimensional surface that projects a sense of three-dimensional depth. The same mesh pattern is echoed in the side air intakes in the lower corners of the bumper. The wide track and the sharp lines in the bodywork combine to deliver a sense of stability and a sophisticated visual statement. A large panoramic roof features a "kimono fold" pattern. This geometric feature, a series of intricate perpendicular lines, draws inspiration from the folds of a silk kimono and the structures of Japan's modern architecture. Lighting the path forward Intricate "Digital Piano Key" lighting at the front and rear projects a futuristic appearance and showcases Infiniti's desire to blend human artistry with the latest technology. The inner structure of the headlamp features a shape and pattern of lines inspired by an electrical heatsink device. Bright white at the front, and ultra-red at the back, the QX60 Monograph's lamps are accompanied by the glowing "infinite road" brand emblem. Combined, the opening light sequence begins at the logo and fans out to the headlamps in a dynamic welcome for drivers. The rear lamps are tinted and, when extinguished, appear to wrap around the back of the vehicle and into the rear flanks in one continuous shape. Illuminated, the piano key lighting shines through to form a beautiful, futuristic light signature. As a complete package, Infiniti QX60 Monograph reveals a transformation in the direction that Infiniti's designers are adopting for the next-generation QX60. The production version of the next generation QX60 is expected in 2021.

An essential marker of the Peugeot brand, the dynamic behaviour of the new SUV Peugeot e-2008 has been the subject of careful attention and provides a touch of road and driving pleasure comparable to petrol and diesel versions. The drive axles have been adapted and the weight distribution is optimal. The charging time depends on the power available: -16h for full charge from a Legrand® Green Up™ plug, - between 5h15 and 8h for a complete charge with a WallBox (three phase 11 kW with optional charger or single phase 7.4 kW) - 30mn to recover 80% of battery with the 100 kW public terminals, the thermal regulation of the battery makes it possible to use terminals with this power. Peugeot will also accompany its customers in the installation thanks to a partnership with specialized companies. In parallel, an offer of public charging solutions is available via Free2Move Services. A step of load gives access to the broadest network of load with more than 110,000 terminals in Europe via the PlugSurfing partner. The preselection of the terminals is done according to the distance, the speed or the price of the refill. Guidance towards the selected terminal can be carried out starting from the application Free2Move Services or the connected navigation of the vehicle. - Easy-Move will ensure our customers' mobility. A tool for planning and organizing long trips via Free2Move Services will offer the best journeys taking into account the autonomy and the location of the charging terminals on the way. For clear and serene driving, the route will be displayed directly on the touch screen of the vehicle. An extended mobility offer is included in the vehicle rent and allows you to rent an internal combustion vehicle according to your needs. Finally, a tool in the MyPeugeot application provides eco-driving tips to optimize the autonomy of your new SUV Peugeot e-2008, - Serenity to support our customers throughout their journey with the new SUV Peugeot e-2008. New simulators and digital routes will help you to find out more about electric on the Peugeot brand websites, service contracts and dedicated roadside assistance may include financing. A certificate guaranteeing the level of capacity of the vehicle's battery will facilitate resale.

  12. Welcome back, and we have another review with sgCarMart! And today, we have the 2020 Audi Q7! Being the largest and most practical vehicle in the Audi lineup, the Q7 has been refreshed, and it now comes with more aggressive lines seen in its stablemates, but still retains that utility and practicality that it was brought to the table. After all, a seven-seat vehicle is always useful. So, let's see what Julian has to say about the Q7. From the get-go, it looks handsome. Audi's design language has been pretty good these past years, nothing too controversial. And not to mention, their gorgeous daytime running lights and sequential signals are always a welcome touch. I mean, just look at it. Audi really has it down pat with the design of the grille and those daytime running lights. And if you can take anyone's word for it, it is Julian's. "Jumping into this car, it instantly made me feel comfortable". That's pretty high praise, I would say. That grille is indeed pretty bold, and as per Julian said, he's not sure if the grille will suit the Q3 or Q5, but it fits the Q7. And to get more context on how big the Q7 really is.... The rear of the Q7 looks just as good, sleek, modern and clean. No need to fuss around when lowering the third row of seats. Audi knows the Q7 is a tall vehicle and loading it can be difficult for shorter people, so there is also a button to lower the rear of the car so as to make loading stuff in easier. About 750 litres of boot space with the third row folded. If that isn't enough for you, knocking down the second row will give you over 2000 litres of cargo space. And if that still isn't enough, get a van. And if you're wondering, yes, the boot opens and closes electronically as well. With the seat set to Jon's height (Jon is about 1.8m tall), Julian has a ton of leg room, even headroom. A blessing in Singapore's weather, the Q7 comes with rear aircon vents not only in the middle, but also on the B-pillars so as to blow air directly at rear passengers. And surprisingly, the third row actually doesn't look too bad. As long as you aren't too big or tall, you should be able to fit nicely back here.   14. For today, it's the Mazda CX-30! So, what is the Mazda CX-30? A crossover? A Mazda 3 in taller boots? Let Jon tell you all about it! In the simplest of terms, this is what the Mazda CX-30 is. But if you still don't really understand what Jon means.... Yes. The CX-30 is the taller version of the Mazda 3 Hatchback. Mazda's Kodo design language is arguably one of the best design languages in the car industry, currently, at least to this writer. The Kodo design language carries itself around pretty well, from sedan to SUV, and it almost seems like Mazda can do no wrong with it. Not the most generous boot capacity, admittedly. But, the CX-30 has a flat load floor! Perfect if you want to transport bigger or bulkier items like a bicycle or IKEA furniture. No weird hump in the middle of the car floor to give you difficulty. At Jon's height, he still has a decent amount of legroom. Not to mention, the leather in the CX-30 is quite a lovely colour. But yes, headroom is a drawback. Especially since there is a sunroof. So, taller people, do take note. Jon still has some headroom but it isn't much. This writer daresays Mazda is killing it with the design of the dashboard layout. Clean, simple lines with a rectangular screen positioned at an optimal angle, and with physical buttons for the important things like air-conditioning and music control. It's really intuitive. Took the words right out of this writer's mouth you did, Jon. Well, with these power levels, you won't be winning many traffic light races. But hey, it's more than enough for overtaking on the expressway, plus Mazda's SkyActiv engines do make their cars feel a little more brisk than what the spec sheet claims to be. Make a mental note and be a little more careful when you're entering certain car parks with this car. Boot space is generous in the Land Rover Defender, with 857 litres of space for all your bags and such. Also, unlike most cars, the Defender's boot doesn't open upwards, it swings outward towards the right. Unconventional, but keeping with the tradition on how a Defender's boot has always been opened. The Land Rover Defender comes with 4 USB charging ports in the rear alone, on top of the 12V socket. Running out of battery for your precious smartphone is unlikely to happen once you are riding in the Land Rover Defender.   19. @Watwheels and @Sturtles favorite Rock Star has a new Buddy! (pun intended) Wanna to guess which model it is based on? At the front, the Mitsuoka Buddy reminds of the 1980s Chevrolet Tahoe thanks to the big chrome grille and split squared headlights. Seen from the side, the front end is also more upright than on the SUV it is based on. Mitsuoka rips off the original SUV's front end and replaces it with a chrome egg-crate-style grille with a pair of stacked headlights on each side. For a modern touch, there are skinny LED running lights in the central crosspiece. The company also adds a shiny chrome bumper, a hood with sharper creases, and boxier fenders, which makes the area ahead of the windshield vaguely resemble the classic Chevys. The Buddy also receives a modified rear end with styling that more generally evokes the styling of '80s Chevy SUVs without directly taking from them like at the front. There are now vertical taillights and sharper creases for the rear hatch with a two-tone finish for the area in the middle versus the rest of the body color. For a matching touch, there is a chrome bumper like the one for the nose. We don’t get to see the interior yet, but we should expect Mitsuoka to leave its imprint on the cabin as well. For now, the company has announced the color palette, which consists of 11 monotone body colors and six two-tone liveries.

Lotus has reportedly changed its plans for the company’s first SUV model, which is expected to launch in 2022 with an EV powertrain instead of a hybrid one. The first SUV model to bear the Lotus badge has been in development for quite some time now but parent company Geely decided to prioritize a fully electric variant, which will be eventually followed by a hybrid version as well. Internally codenamed the Lotus Lambda, the first reports for the SUV model go as back as 2016. The model was originally thought to be launched with a petrol-electric powertrain, similar to that you’d find in a Volvo or a Polestar model but since then the EV market has grown significantly, forcing the carmaker to change plans. Autocar reports that the Lotus SUV will be produced at a special section of Geely’s new $1.31-billion factory in Wuhan, China, and will be based on the recently announced ‘Sustainable Experience Architecture’. All engineering decisions will still be made in Hethel, with Lotus given the freedom to cherry-pick the best components inside the Geely group. The upcoming Lotus SUV is reportedly going to be offered in two EV variants; a base model with dual motors and a combined 600 HP and a range-topper with up to 750 HP. In addition, Lotus targets a driving range of 360 miles (580 km). Despite the traditionally heavy EV powertrain, Lotus is still expected to focus on shedding as much weight as possible from its first SUV. The company’s goal is apparently to offer the lightest electric SUV in its segment. The company’s engineers will use the knowledge gained from the Evija hypercar in setting up and tuning the EV powertrain, while it’s safe to expect that handling will also be high on their priorities’ list. Lotus is going to reveal the new electric SUV model in 2022, with the market launch to follow in 2023.

The compact SUV segment is the probably the most competitive segment in the market today, with superb new entries such as the new CR-V (my personal favourite), new Tiguan, new CX-5, highly acclaimed Sportage, Tucson, facelifted X-Trail, Forester etc. And pricing in Singapore spans from SGD110k-ish for base versions of Forester/Tucson to almost SGD200k for the Tiguan R-line. Putting aside the question of which is best, I wondered which is best value. Because of differing AD margins, OMV games, and pricing dynamics due to strong brand loyalties, the car pricing in Singapore can be quite out of line with the rest of the world. I wanted to figure out, for instance, how fair is the SGD160k being asked for the new CR-V, Tiguan etc? Have set out the summary table in the spreadsheet link below, and the methodology below that. There are many possible methodologies, but this is a quick and dirty one that appears to provide reasonably defensible conclusions. Essentially, the quick and dirty conclusions appear to be:- 1. Median SUV is Nissan X-Trail, which is priced about at the average price of the segment for both Singapore and Australia 2. Best value compact SUVs in SIngapore are - Forester XT: Priced 8% above average in Australia and 9% below average in Singapore - Sportage 2.0 GT: Priced 7% above average in Australia and 10% below average in Singapore 3. For the new SUVs: - CR-V: the 7 seater CR-V is considerably better value that the 5-seater. - Tiguan 1.4: Not great value if priced at SGD160k. In Australia, this is priced below the equivalent X-Trail. - CX-5: Best value for a new SUV. It was an interesting experiment for me, so thought I'd share the conclusions above. Am not saying this is the definitive guide, but its a useful perspective.
