Jeep three-row Chinese SUV will be called Grand Commander https://www.autoblog.com/2018/01/16/jeep-large-suv-china-grand-commander/ China is still very much a Jeep country, and the boxy XJ generation Cherokee lived and prospered there far longer than it did in the United States — until 2014. There have also been China-built Grand Cherokees, but the biggest Chinese Jeep has been previewed in the form of the Yuntu concept seen at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. Now, leaked shots of the Yuntu's production version have emerged a couple weeks after the SUV was spotted testing still in camouflage, and it appears to wear the nameplate GrandCommander. While a name like Grand Wagoneer would have been a stronger memento of Jeeps gone by, at least it's not called Grand Compassor Grand Nitro. The official reveal of the Grand Commander is expected to be held at the Beijing Auto Show in April, where more information will be available. Car News China says the big, nearly 16-foot-long SUV is a seven-seater, and the engine is the same 2-liter turbo unit also seen in the freshly updated Wrangler. There will be two power levels, 234 hp and 265 hp. The Grand Commander will most likely remain China-only, where it will be priced at $38,000. That sees it competing withVolkswagen's large Teramont SUV, which starts at nearly $45,000.

Has anyone seen the Ssanyong Tivoli, reviewed in Straits Times here: http://www.stcars.sg/guides-articles/ssangyongs-small-suv-surprise-146212 Looks good. Anyone test drove it yet? Does it feel under-powered? It will be on my shortlist as I am looking out for a Japanese / Korean SUV.

Been thinking for a long time on which car to buy and can't arrive at a conclusion. Background: My family of 4 (including me, my wife, a toddler and an infant) is looking for a new car. I drop my toddler at school before going to work everyday. I will also fetch my parents/parents in law around maybe 2-3 times per month for outings. I drive to Malaysia (Ipoh) around 2 times per year and probably have some road trips to other places in Malaysia as well. Budget: $120k Features (good to have): Electric tailgate/boot, Keyless entry, Blindspot detection. I'm looking at only AD cars Toyota Wish, Mitsubishi Outlander and the latest Toyota Harrier Turbo (price exceeds my budget a lot but I like this car a lot and it has all the features I want) which will launch in July 2017. Not looking at Honda HRV/Vezel. 1. Toyota Wish (price is around $110k) Pros: - Spacious interior. - Fuel consumption quite ok at 12-13km/l. - Adequate power. - Budget friendly. Cons: - Dated engine. Think the Wish was last launched in 2009 or 2010 and then had a facelift 2-3 years ago. - Very basic interior. - Does not have many features. The Wish is just like a Toyota Altis with 3 rows of seats. - Does not have rear air con vents. 2. Mitsubishi Outlander (price is around $120k) Pros: - Spacious interior. - Packed with features not found in Wish. - I love driving SUV. Wife mentioned that she prefers higher cars though it's not a priority. Cons: - Bad fuel consumption. Seems like it can only achieve 8-9km/l as it's a 2.4 SUV. - Read reviews that power is lacking despite it being a 2.4 SUV. - 3rd row is not that spacious despite it being a bigger car than Wish. 3. Toyota Harrier Turbo (price is likely to be $160k) Pros: - Spacious and luxurious interior. - Powerful engine (go NSH overtaking no problem). - Fuel efficient at 10-12km/l (as achieved by Lexus NX. Harrier should get better FC). - Packed full of features which I want. - Has air con vents for 2nd row. Cons: - Burst budget big time. Will be straining my finances if I go with Harrier. - Does not have 3rd row of seats. My own thoughts so far (but welcome to have more comments and opinions): - Heart is with Toyota Harrier but wallet says no. - Wallet says go for Toyota Wish which is an outdated car with not much features. - My wife and me prefer SUV but the pricing of Wish and the interior space make us consider it. - I have been driving 2 generations of Toyota Altis (for 10 years) and 2013 Lexus RX (for 2 years) company car. Really like driving a SUV - the feel and higher driving height is really different from a sedan. - Mitsubishi Outlander seems like an in-between as it has good features but read that FC is really bad. - I intend to drive at least 5 years. If huat then change car, if bo huat then drive 10 years. What are your thoughts guys? Thanks in advance!

Didn't know Audi had a smaller than Q3 SUV planned. Those front DRL look suspiciously like the "Thor" hammer design of Volvo. And that large C-pillar? nah.... not good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uw62NGnvlA

With latest statistics in Europe showing that sales of SUV is beginning to overtake hatchback, it is do not come as a surprise that many auto manufacturer are making their new model to ride higher, label them as Crossover, and there after markup the selling price, taking full advantage of the latest trend in the motoring world. Actually the "pioneer" in mini SUV is not any conti car maker, but Japanese. How many here still remember there was once a a 659cc 20V turbo charged sample, with max. horsepower of 64ps, max torque of 97Nm, and a top speed rated at 130Km/h (in stock condition)? Yes, I am referring to Mitsubishi Pajero Mini. A fun car, but not necessary a fuel efficient one as one might have expected from a Kei car.

Heard from one of the SEs in Alpine that the Chevrolet Trax is coming in this year. Any thoughts of the design and expected price? Will it be priced cheaper than some of the current popular Japanese compact SUVs?

Just a decade ago, Volvo "shaken" the world with the launch of it flagship SUV, XC90, touted as a premium SUV (after BMW with its X5 & Mercedes with the GL). Since then, the SUV assault continue, with Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Porsche and such jumping onto the bandwagon, in hope to have a slice of the big pie. Last September, Bentley officially introduce it Bentayga, the world first luxury SUV, with it first customer the Queen of Britain.

i intend to change my father ride from 730Li to a 7 seater SUV. x5 Q7 XC90 fortuner GL450 Land Rover Discovery btw, i am talking about the old USED cars to keep costs low. of these, which is the better one with reliability being highest priority. reason is because my father really really really hate a car to breakdown leaving him stranded. thanks for any input.
