  1. To adopt the lingo of the marketing campaign for the 2011 Suzuki Swift - I'm a fan! And if you went down to the nearest Suzuki dealership to give this new hatch a test drive, there is a pretty good chance you would be one too! But before you head down to the showroom, my only advice is to throw out or shelf away all your driving experience with respect to luxury marques and sports cars for those 10-15 minutes behind the wheel of this car. Because what the Swift (was and still is) meant to be, is a wholly different type of creature from those nether regions exciting marques. And within its class, I would say that it is pretty outstanding. Just opening the door, the first thing that strikes anyone is that the interior has been refreshed and suitably updated to bring it on par with a more modern look to the interior. All around, there are improvements to the build quality and the sound insulation. The interior does bear a slight resemblance to Suzuki's flagship - the Kizashi; which is a good thing. It is on paper, bigger than the previous generation, but still would not be considered large enough to be fully practical. All in all though, it is good enough to hold its own against its bread and butter competitors. There is no major misstep here - it all boils down to personal preferences. But as with most cars, the proof is to be found in the driving. And that is where this little Swift has that little edge that makes you feel that perhaps the Swift moniker is not such a misnomer after all. Thanks to its really light weight, the 1.4 litre engine does not really struggle. It is a gutsy little engine that really revs quite well. Before you know it, the revs have already climbed up to 3k and then 4k and then more. In this car, you won't be winning any traffic light drag races against the turbo-diesel cabs that ply our roads, but you won't be faced with an agonizingly long climb to 3 figure speeds either. My (biased) pick for this car would be the manual variant. Because that is where one can truly enjoy the difference in driving that the Swift has over its competing hatchbacks. But I suspect most would pick the auto. In which case, the main selling point for this Swift would be its looks and its price. If the price is kept below the strongest marque in this class (read, VW), I am sure the 2011 Swift will have its own group of fans. But if the price is ever pushed a little too close to those of the People's Car, then the sad truth is that most will just buy the DSG equipped Polo. And it is on this somewhat sobering note that I end this review. The new Swift really is a more than decent car that I would love to see enjoy the same success that its predecessor did. But, with COE levels being the way they are and with the strong offerings from VW, it might prove to be a rare sight on our roads. So despite capturing fans, it might not capture the fans' wallets. Still, at least it has got be eagerly anticipating the launch of the new Swift Sport. It looks like it could be another very decent car from Suzuki.
  2. The 2011 Geneva Motor Show also brought out concept cars that have a real chance of coming true. One of these cars is the Suzuki Swift S-Concept, a concept car based on the latest Suzuki Swift hatchback that had only made its debut at the end of last year in several markets around the world (but surprisingly not over at this part of the world). This little hot hatch concept is a preview to what the next Suzuki Swift Sport will look like. And it is pretty tasty, although it does look too similar to the outgoing model. You get the same sort of bodykit with that similar slightly more aggressive front end compared to the basic Swift. You also get a similar Canary Yellow color that seems to suit the Swift Sport well. It also gets interior trimming that is like the outgoing Swift Sport, especially the high backed sports seats (by RECARO) and a similar looking, albeit slightly tweaked interior. This shows that the new Swift is actually an evolution of the outgoing model rather than a total revolution. Well, if it ain't broke, why fix it? The Swift S-Concept is based on the 2 door hatchback form that is sold over in Europe and since the car is already on sale over there, this is the model Suzuki based the S-Concept on. I suppose it is pretty easy for you readers to imagine how the bodykit would sit on the 4 door Suzy that we would eventually receive. The only real change that I can see is that the car is very slightly larger than its predecessor and the only way you can tell this is from the wheel size used by the S-Concept
  3. After the first match in MY with the MY fans using laser pointers to distract Indo players, do you think the Indo fans will clash with MY fans since the next match will be in Indo?

  8. any one here knows wher to find full body kit for 91 swift? how much?
  9. Advice needed... Went for 70k servicing recently and was considering to change ATF. Was told by WS that must use strictly Suzuki ATF (damn ex! 20+ per quart). So decided to hold it off and do more research on it. Went back to check my owner manual and it stated Dexron 3 fluid to be used. So any Dexron 3 ATF will do the job? No need to be strictly from Suzuki? How about AMSOIL ATF, which is Dexron 3 compatible, and claimed to perform much better?
  10. Not too long ago, I paid my final tribute to a trusty friend on this blog. And like the saying goes, "out with the old, in with the new". As a replacement for my trusty ride, I will be welcoming a spanking new Suzuki Swift Sport some time within the next week. Now, the wisdom of buying a new car at record high COE prices or the debate over the Swift Sport are all topics that have been discussed on this blog. So, let us leave those topics aside. Today's post is all about the pre-car collection excitement that I have been experiencing. Now this is by no means my first ride; but, somehow, I am still feeling that same amount of excitement and impatience that I felt years ago when I was waiting for my very first ride. I am trawling the Internet for facts, info and potential modifications. I am mentally drawing up plans for all the stuff I intend to do to it. Lets just say that it is gonna be a pretty long Xmas wishlist that Santa will be getting from me this year! Honestly, words can't really describe this heady mix of excitement and impatience that is surging through me as I count down to car collection. I guess I really am a bit (or a lot) of a car freak! Well, anyway, I have been wondering if I am the only freak who gets this jumped up about collecting a new car. This is because when my Dad got his new car, he was a picture of calm. The 3 month wait didn't bother him one bit. In fact, his reaction when informed by the SE that his car could be collected earlier, his reaction was "So fast?". And I am guessing that his attitude is probably the predominant one among Singaporeans. The car is more of a transportation tool and is just like buying a household appliance. Nothing particularly exciting about it. Even less so, if you already have a car to use. Or does it have to do with how much you desire the incoming car? So here's my question to all you readers, which camp do you belong to? Freaks or utilitarians? In the meantime, I am off to continue the (agonizing) count down to my car collection. Until next time!

  20. Hello Guys, Just looking for some suggestions here on the new Suzuki SX4 or Impreza Sedan... I guess both are them are pretty similar in how unpopular they are with the Singapore market. But I'm not too keen on the Latio or Altis. Anyway, I'm looking to drive this car for at least 5 years so reliability will be key too. Appreciate your advice. Thanks.
  21. Every year we are assaulted with a slew of new launches from the various car manufacturers. They range from hyper-machines chucking out gazillions of horsepower to tiny fuel-sipping run-abouts. In all likelihood, the months ahead will be no different and we can expect a mind-boggling range of new cars to hit our shores. Here, I would like to take a couple of minutes to talk about 3 cars from affordable marques that I am impatiently anticipating. And in no particular order whatsoever: 1. Nissan Juke The Nissan Juke is probably going to be the first of the 3 cars here to be launched in Singapore. But that is not our main concern here. We are here to talk about why I am eagerly awaiting my opportunity to crawl behind the steering wheel of one. First up, its controversial looks. Nissan has designed some thing that has left me undecided about whether I like it or not. Whichever the case may be, this is definitely not a shrinking violet and is bound to grab the eyeballs of everyone standing near one. Nissan has been experimenting with somewhat radical looks with its previous 2 SUV type models and I guess the design philosophy has come to fruition with this one. Curiosity is practically killing me as I wonder how our Singaporean market will take to this design. Next, is of course the availability of the turbo-charged 1.6litre engine. My half-decent memory suggests that it has been a long time since Nissan put a snail on any one of its mass market cars (GTR excluded, for obvious reasons). In fact, Nissan may well be embarking on a path of exploring the possibility of greater efficiency through turbo-charging relatively low capacity engines. Will this take Nissan down a new direction and make it the future VW of the East? I am guessing a lot will depend on the Juke and its sales figures. And of course, I really want to test Nissan's new take on the turbo-charged engine and see what it is good for. 2. Hyundai Avante 2011 Hyundai's new Avante can hardly qualify as news anymore and hence, I doubt that I need to describe it in great detail. But if you live under a rock, here is the blog post to read about it. Moving back to the main discussion for today though, what has got me all excited about this 2011 Avante has got to be the new direct injection engine. Known as the GDI, its 1.6 litre unit will chuck out 140BHP and 166NM of torque. While these specs is nowhere near the famous VTEC engines of yesteryears by the other H brand (read B16A etc), these figures are pretty much class leading in our current market. Which leads me to wonder, will this 2011 Avante be Hyundai's first rice and boyracer car ever? That I will only be able to find out once I get in one and see how those 140 ponies behave on the road. Here's hoping they are a riotous and noisy bunch. 3. Suzuki Swift 2011 The upcoming variant of the Suzuki Swift, like the Avante, has been previously discussed on Myautoblog (read it here). So once again, I will skip the details and move onto the crux of my blog entry. The Swift, in my mind, has always been one of Suzuki's best sellers in Singapore in recent years. All forms and guises of the Swift can be easily spotted along our roads and it is no surprise. It is a decent piece of kit for the price. And that is the whole reason why I am so excited about the new Swift. How will Suzuki improve on what is already a pretty good car in its class? Come to think of it, is Suzuki even able to? Will the follow up Swift in 2011 be Suzuki's next blockbuster or will it be a box office dud? The only way to find out is when it is finally launched for sale in Singapore. Here is hoping that Suzuki pulls off yet another success and follow it up with an even better new version of the Swift Sport. I can hardly wait.
  22. Anybody know where i could get original or oem oil filter for Suzuki Liana? I may not be going back to Champiom motor to service my car so need a new source for oil filter and going to buy my own engine oil to get a shop to do the routine oil change for me. Thanks, Daniel
  23. [extract] Suzuki has released more official photos of the 2011 Swift as well as the specification for the models that will be initially launched for the European market. From these pictures we can see that the car looks slightly larger than the previous model but keeps the previous model
  24. Just got a message from my friend.. a pump attendant pumped abt 10 litres of diesel into his 3 yrs old suzuki swift..anybody know any complications or wad he should do?? please advise, thanks!
  25. Suzuki has unveiled the first official photos of its upcoming, next-generation Swift model. The new Swift features a more lightweight and stiffened frame compared to it predecessor and comes with a widened track and larger wheels for improved performance and handling. Compared to the previous generation, the car is longer by 9cm with a 5cm increase in wheelbase. The revised hatch will be available with a 1.2 liter gasoline engine with variable intake and exhaust valve timing or Dual VVTi. It produces 94 PS at 6,000 revs and 118Nm of torque at 4,800 revs. Fuel consumption on the unit is 5 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions are 116 g/km. A new Euro 5-compliant 1.3 liter diesel will also be made available in 2011 with a CO2 bona fide of 109 g/km and a consumption rating of 4.2 liters/ 100 km. On the front, we have a reworked front fascia with a new grille, headlights and front bumper. The rear sports new taillights, bumper and boot lid. Interior information is limited at this moment.
