  4. 1. We know the number of allocation of each category... 2. We only need to share whether we would need to buy car this month... 3. If the number exceeding the allocation given, we just need to postpone the idea to next month? 4. This way we can buy cheaper car with little COE?
  5. Dear Bro / Sis , I am thinking of getting a Karaoke system. If you have any good recommendation, I would really appreciated. Thanks in Adv !
  6. Everything the same except you pay for what you bid, closed bid and minimum 5k bid. If bids are less than quota, the extra COE are scrapped. Example, if you bid 100k and the lowest acceptable bid is 10k, you still have to pay 100k. It should be better in almost all ways to the current system. Current system totally favours the rich as you can bid astronomical sums and yet only pay for the lowest bids. If you want to push up the COE, be prepared to PAY for it, not everyone pay with you.... Government may get more revenue from the rich who WANTS their car NOW and willing to pay a premium. If the demand is less than the supply, please don't give $1 COE. Just scrap the extra COE. we will never have a problems with too little cars. The unused COE can be introduced in the future. minor changes but seems only have advantages to me.
  7. dear all, was just thinking: since coe is used to control the car population, why can't it be transferrable, since in effect the number of coe remains the same? that could be useful especially when the low coe bought in 2009 can be transferred to a new car now. that would not lead to a change in car number, since when the coe is transferred to the new car, the old car has to be scrapped. any thoughts?
  8. Internet Security Firm Mandiant has conducted an investigation of this for years and has finally released it APT1 report on how it claims the Chinese have a military unit under the PLA to hack English-speaking Countries' Infrastructure and firms. 10. Sharp-eyed speedsters who slam on the brakes when they spot a speed camera may soon not escape a ticket, if a new speed enforcement system due to go on trial is eventually implemented. The "average speed enforcement system", according to tender documents the police put up on the Government electronic procurement portal on Dec 19, will measure vehicle speeds over a distance to nab speeding motorists. This means that errant motorists cannot slow down just before or speed up right after speed cameras to evade the law, as they do now with the "point-based static speed enforcement system". The new system will be tested out along the Pan-Island Expressway and Changi Coast Road for at least a month, according to the tender documents. Changi Coast Road, in particular, is a well-known black spot. In May last year, a cyclist was killed after being hit by a lorry, which only came to a halt about 200m away, according to reports. According to the tender documents, the police noted that other jurisdictions have in recent years started implementing speed enforcement systems that measure the average speed of vehicles over a predefined distance. For example, several Australian states have implemented these since 2001. In New South Wales, there are 25 point-to-point speed cameras installed along the various highways specifically targeting heavy vehicles. "(The Singapore Police Force) intends to conduct a trial to evaluate the suitability of such systems for implementation in Singapore," the tender documents said. The average speed enforcement system works by recording the time a vehicle takes to travel between two points to calculate its average speed. Speed detectors placed at the start and end points - to be determined in consultation with the Land Transport Authority - will record the timestamp and vehicle licence plates. Speed limits here range from 40kmh on smaller roads to 90kmh on expressways. In the last three years, the number of speeding violations here has surged. Between January and November last year, the Traffic Police booked nearly 225,000 motorists for speeding - a daily average of 673 offences. In 2011, the figure for the whole year was 225,500, or 617 daily, compared to 205,000 cases in 2010. Over the years, the police have deployed speed cameras at more locations. In 2008, there were speed cameras along 38 roads. This has risen to 53 roads now. Red-light camera system to go digital? In a separate tender issued last month, the Traffic Police also called for the implementation of a "Digital Traffic Red Light System". The new system must be able to capture and store digital images of motorists who beat red lights. These will then be sent to a backend computer system to be used as evidence, according to tender documents. Currently, the red-light camera systems here still use film. Just last week, a video clip of a motorcyclist hitting a woman pedestrian after beating a red light along Woodlands Avenue 6 went viral online. The footage was captured on the in-car camera of a motorist. Last year, there were 16,442 red-light violations between January and November. And in the previous year, there were 17,490 such cases, a shade higher than the 17,180 in 2010. Source: http://www.todayonline.com/Hotnews/EDC1301...s-on-speedsters
  11. Something is very wrong with the system........ They say its to control car population blah blah..... However, I still experience jams like nobody business everyday........ I don't mind paying even $100-$200K for COE if it helps to clear up the roads.. But whats the point of paying so much if roads remain so clogged up everyday??? Others don't have COE, also jam up. We have COE also jam.... Well, its high time for LTA to do something to really reduce car population. Btw, one very good suggestion is that COE has to be paid up in cash. Not lump together with car installment. No $100K for COE? Don't get a car, simple as that.

  16. Trials which could yield the next generation of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system are under way along Woodlands Avenue 12. Last year, four consortia - Kapsch TrafficCom, MHI Engine System Asia and NCS, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) and IBM Singapore, and Watchdata Technologies and Beijing Watchdata System - had won the tender to develop technologies to replace the current gantry system in a timeframe of 18 months. The four consortia had also been allocated a seed fund of S$1 million each for the project and might include a satellite-tracking system. In response to queries, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that the System Evaluation Test (SET) had begun in May and "is a technological trial to help identify a technological solution most suited for Singapore". "Woodlands Avenue 12 is a suitable site to conduct on-road testing as it is a relatively straight road with high traffic volumes and a good mix of different vehicle types," said the LTA spokesperson. A visit to the site showed that four black-coloured cantilevers, which are about the height of lamp posts, have been erected along the road about 100m apart. A variety of surveillance cameras, reflectors and sensors were mounted on the vertical portions of the structures overhanging the road. The LTA said that the tests, which are expected to be completed "around the end of the year", will not cause disruption to other motorists. "At the end of the SET, LTA will assess the performance of the various solutions to determine whether an appropriate technological solution is available and can form the basis of a next generation ERP system," said the spokesperson. However, he added that as the project is in "very early stages", "the next generation ERP systems, if technically feasible, is still some years away." In Parliament earlier this year, Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo had said that it was too early to speculate when the next generation ERP system, or ERP 2, will be introduced, but added that the LTA would have to make sure that it can be reliably used for road pricing. 22. Hi all, I bought a used car that came with a Simota carbon fibre (enclosed) air-intake system. I find it somewhat noisy and to get the original air box will be expensive. Just wondering if this Simota is notorious for noise or what? What suggestion would you recommend to replace this Simota? Would so called "mushroom" type air-intake system reduce or alleviate the noise problem? Please advise me and Thank you very much. Regards,

Because i use to turn the volume to 1/4, is already very loud, now i have to turn the volume to half, then i can hear it. I am thinking is it because my 2 ch gain too few, thats why the my HU volume now have to turn to half then can hear it. Any advice? Thanks
  25. I am all for this system but also a realist to know that some folks will abuse it if implemented... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_793022.html EMPLOYMENT ACT REVIEW Replace MCs with honour system Published on Apr 27, 2012 I AM a doctor in a public primary health-care institution, and am currently on a six-week attachment at a hospital in San Francisco to learn some of their best practices. My hosts here have heard many good things about Singapore and its health-care system and are as keen to learn from me as I am from them. One thing which I have found difficult to explain to them is the fact that many of our patients are those seeking medical certification for sick leave, adding to our already overloaded system ('Beefing up the Employment Act'; Wednesday). It is ridiculous that people who are entrusted with carrying firearms, administering medication, making financial decisions on behalf of others or educating our young are not trusted to call in sick on their own without having to visit a doctor first. Often, patients just need a day of rest with some medication which they can easily obtain from a pharmacy before going back to work reinvigorated. In San Francisco, people are entitled to some 10 to 14 days of sick leave a year. If they take sick leave beyond a certain period, they are then required to produce a sick note. Otherwise, it is based on an honour system which seems to work well. I wonder if the Ministry of Manpower will consider removing the need for sick leave to be certified by a doctor as is stated in the Employment Act. It could limit the need for a doctor's certification only for sick leave of three days or more. This will greatly reduce the strain on public resources, freeing up time in the doctors' consulting rooms for those patients who truly need the time, as well as empower employees to take better charge of their own health. I am sure the different organisations can come up with their own incentive programmes to ensure that employees stay healthy. Dr David Tan Hsien Yung
