  1. Wow new ex-FT MP kena hot potato just taking over. Remembered this chap said his years of service in the hospital was somehow equivalent to serving NS IIRC. Let's see how he tackle this boiling issue. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1130309/1/.html
  2. Hi guys just went up to boleh land to pump petrol. As i was travelling back, i could hear some knocking sound coming from inside the tank. Is it normal ? coz i pump the oil till over the F indicator.
  3. Folks, just wana check wif u guys that is it true that is not advisable to wait till empty then we top up petrol. Reason being the tank will oxidized n rust will form n in the end clog up n will ve to send engine for overhaul. Sounds logical but Im not quite convinced as in the manufacturer shld know about tis n a better material shld b used for the fuel tank. Can someone kind to clear my doubts? Becos of tis issue, my friend who drive a cng car worries as he only keep 1/4 tank of petrol as standby when cng runs low. He will try to clear the old petrol only once a mth and pump in new petrol n maintain 1/4 tank as standby again. Basically he works and stay near a cng station thus he hardly uses petrol. Another question is that is it alright for him to do in this way? Thks.
  4. If you thought that luxury carmakers are safe from the recall epidemic, then think again, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just announced that BMW will be issuing a recall for certain 2010 and 2011 5 Series and 5 Series Gran Turismo models. It seems that the fuel tank sensor, which detects how much fuel you have in the tank, might become wedged, and will display an inaccurate reading. As such, you might be thinking you
  5. Each time I open my fuel cap to pump petrol, there will be a air suction sound, it is worst when the tank is almost empty. I think my fuel tank is air tight! I thought there is a small hole in fuel tank for overfill and expansion flow out? How come I can hear the suction air sound. Ok the more important question is will this make my fuel pump work even harder when the fuel tank is half full and going in empty? It will have to pump against vacuum inside the tank! Oh will it spoil my fuel tank if I only pump fuel always when the tank is empty vs half full? Will the fuel pump fail if I keep allowing the fuel tank to be empty before I pump petrol? Will the engine get too little fuel due to the vacuum? Meaning fuel pump pumps lesser volume of fuel due to the opposite vacuum force. T
  6. Any bro here from 48 SAR? how was the experience with Leopard tank?
  7. as above would be interesting to know which would model would benefit most. comparison either the most litres or most mileage up to 3/4 been pumping jb for this 2 weeks cos of work and the feeling of $0.80 petrol is damn shiok
  8. Seem to me that the water for the radiator in the reservoir tank is going down fast. What is this sympton?
  9. Good Day to all mycarforum forumers, Last night (approximately 1020hrs), I was at ESSO petrol station beside Serangoon JC, I used pump 6 to re-fuel Synergy 5000. As usual, I ensured that the rubber cover of the pump had fully covered the mouth of my fuel tank, with that ensured, I began re-fueling. (I've always had the preference of re-fueling on my own instead of getting the pump attendants to help). Watching the pump meter ticking towards 29-30 litres, I knew that the tank was about close to full, so I got ready for the pump trigger to dis-engage, however, instead of the usual 'tick' that we would hear or see, a gush of petrol came splashing out of my fuel tank, very quickly, I grabbed the pump's trigger and dis-engaged it. The side of my car was all splashed with petrol, my shoes were caught slightly in the 'action', lucky thing I didn't have the pump set to max speed for pumping, if not I'm sure even my clothes would have been caught in the 'action. The next thing I did very immediately was to close my fuel tank and poured water over the petrol contaminated areas of my car to clean it up for fear of it causing damage to my paintwork. I told the pump attendant of what I encountered and told him that this should be reflected to his supervisor ASAP, firstly its dangerous to users of the pump and dangerous to themsleves, secondly, its costly to us customers. I also told him that of course, I'm not expecting any discounts from this incident. I'm not posting this as a complaint, but more of a 'heads-up pre-cautionary' to you guys..I'm sure many of us have taken the auto stop function for granted. I can think of 2 possible reasons that might have caused this to happen: 1) I did not insert the nozzle into my fuel tank fully 2) Did not ensure that the rubber cover has covered my fuel tank mouth proper 3) The small vacuum pipe inside of the nozzle was faulty In any case, I hope that you guys will take alittle more caution when re-fueling after reading this.
  10. Before i go for night class, i pump full tank for my sunny n16M. So i travel to and fro which is ard 40km, and it resulted in my fuel gauge needle to be resting slightly above the 3/4 indicator. Meaning to say that my car DRUNK 1/4 tank of petrol to travel 40km which is almost 4km/l. Is it normal ? This happen after i service my car, but shouldn't it get better ? Bros', any idea ? It is burning a big hole in my wallet..
  11. Bought 2 x Air-Water separator, short lenght hose & 4 brass fitting connectors. Here are the step by step DIY for the Oil Catch Tank: Here are the items
  12. Friend's car gauge spoilt and shows near empty all the time. Petrol attendant pump and the petrol vomitted out. Went to take a stick and dip in a little, got petrol residue already. So is it full tank or just too hot and it vomit?
  13. i made this observation when i filled up my car tank with just about 4-5 litres of petrol at a petrol station... (long story... but basically just filled up enough to avoid empty tank so i can get to my preferred petrol provider) the first time i did it, i realised there was no impact whatsoever on my gauge, distance travelled, distance to empty indicator etc... i thought amount put in was too insignificant. second time, again same thing. but it got me thinking... 5L is a significant amount. is it possible that the first few litres is just vapour, no liquid, or a mix of both.... so you get much less than what you think?
  14. As above. need advise as i feel like changing car. Thanks
  15. As of now, the prices of crude oil has shot up to US$71/barrel (data from bloomberg.com) If it continues to hold around this price, we can all expect an increase of 6 cents / liter by tomorrow or even tonight. Please dun forget our oil cartels only have 24hrs tolerance for any rise in crude prices! Mai tu liao! GO PUMP!
  16. Hi guys, need help again... I cant source for a new cooler tank. (see picture attached). I think my best bet would be to get somebody to fabricate this in alloy or aluminium. (not sure which is better). anybody has any ideas, suggestions, or recommendations? much appreciated.

    Fuel tank

Hi guys... do you know where can i get one?
  18. as 1 of e bros here suggested b4......they may b some truth in it. Gone r e days where immigration officer look into ur cabin 2 check fuel amt, instead their focus is on a screen. Days ago, as i was approaching, I noticed tat they were looking at another oncoming vehicle tat alerted their attention on e other lane. They gesture to e driver to slow down for a check, but later waved him on to go ahead as they realize tat it was a malaysia reg. car. Its no brainer tat these car don top up fuel over here. Seems we r missing out something here
  19. Got this email from a friend. Just for fun, Is it true for your case? *************************************************************************** WHO KNEW THIS??? I have been driving for nearly 44 years...I would think I should have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me in the face the whole time...I didn't...and I bet you didn't either... Have you ever rented or borrowed a car and when arriving at the gas station wondered...mmm, which side is the gas filler cap? My normal solution was to stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look, try to see in the side mirrors or even get out of the car! Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or pu t your neck at risk of discomfort or injury. If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump? The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the gas pump? If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left? If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo). It is that simple!
  20. It seems that customs will usually ask whether you fuel tank is 3/4 full or not. But how many kena escoted back to LTA for immediate fuel tank inspection before? Refering to the recent case of remote control fuel guage tampering case. Maybe he is sway? I mean if the custom did not spot the remote control, how likely that he will ask the car owner to send the car for inspection right there right now? If immediate check maybe will kena. But if wait for LTA to send letter to send car for inspection, surely got time to rectify in time right?
  21. Hello fellow bro, I saw Autobacs selling portable fuel tank, i think is for backup purpose, the capacity is 10 litre. I am just wondering, if we use this and top up petrol from msia and bring it back to sin, does this consider illegal? any idea gentlement :)
  22. I can smell petrol whenever my tank is full. Do not see any leaks at all. Not sure if it has anything to do with the petrol vent line. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any recommendation mechanic for checking petrol tank leaks?
  23. Gas cylinder in car boot explodes at petrol station BY KULDEEP S. JESSY Big blow: Members of the fire department and the curious public surveying the damage to the petrol station following the explosion in Jinjang yesterday. [/size] KUALA LUMPUR: A man cheated death when an NGV gas cylinder in his car boot exploded at a petrol station in Jalan Jambu Jerteh, Jinjang here. The 3.50pm incident occurred after the man in his 30s had just finished refuelling his Mercedes Benz at the petrol station. Although the car did not catch fire, its rear was damaged. It was learnt that the driver had been talking on his mobile phone immediately after pumping gas into the cylinder. The explosion also caused damage to the petrol station and a taxi parked nearby. Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sofian Md Yassin, who confirmed the incident, said that no one was injured. Danger zone: Debris from the explosion covered a taxi parked nearby. He said the man
  24. Interesting analogy using eggs... which might just work. Judging on the prices going south of late, it might just be one of the reasons. And it was already known that there wasn't any shortage in the first place but OPEC just simply refused to control pricing and spectulators just kept bidding higher and higher until everyone started pumping lesser and lesser. Also... I reckon the recent months of high oil prices had accelerated the research on alternate fuel and power supply, which might also be a factor in the SOBs going soft on the prices?? ANALOGY OF EGGS A man eats two eggs each morning for breakfast. When he goes to the grocery store he pays 60 cents a dozen. Since a dozen eggs won ' t last a week he normally buys two dozens at a time. One day while buying eggs he notices that the price has risen to 72 cents. The next time he buys groceries, eggs are 76 cents a dozen. When asked to explain the price of eggs the store owner says, "The price has gone up and I have to raise my price accordingly". This store buys 100 dozen eggs a day. He checked around for a better price and all the distributors have raised their prices. The distributors have begun to buy from the huge egg farms. The small egg farms have been driven out of business. The huge egg farms sell 100,000 dozen eggs a day to distributors. With no competition, they can set the price as they see fit. The distributors then have to raise their prices to t he grocery stores. And on and on and on. As the man kept buying eggs the price kept going up. He saw the big egg trucks delivering 100 dozen eggs each day. Nothing changed there. He checked out the huge egg farms and found they were selling 100,000 dozen eggs to the distributors daily. Nothing had changed but the price of eggs. Then week before Thanksgiving the price of eggs shot up to $1.00 a dozen. Again he asked the grocery owner why and was told, "Cakes and baking for the holiday". The huge egg farmers know there will be a lot of baking going on and more eggs will be used. Hence, the price of eggs goes up. Expect the same thing at Chris tmas and other times when family cooking, baking, etc. happen. This pattern continues until the price of eggs is 2.00 a dozen. The man says, " There must be something we can do about the price of eggs". He starts talking to all the people in his town and they decide to stop buying eggs. This didn ' t work because everyone needed eggs. Finally, the man suggested only buying what you need. He ate 2 eggs a day. On the way home from work he would stop at the grocery and buy two eggs. Everyone in town started buying 2 or 3 eggs a day. The grocery store owner began complaining that he had too many eggs in his cooler. He told the distributor that he didn ' t need any eggs. Maybe wouldn ' t need any all week. The distributor had eggs piling up at his warehouse. He told the huge egg farms that he didn ' t have any room for eggs would not need any for at least two weeks. At the egg farm, the chickens just kept on laying eggs. To relieve the pressure, the huge egg farm told the distributor that they could buy the eggs at a lower price. The distributor said, " I don ' t have the room for the %$&^*&% eggs even if they were free". T he distributor told the grocery store owner that he would lower the price of the eggs if the store would start buying again. The grocery store owner said, "I don ' t have room for more eggs. The customers are only buying 2 or 3 eggs at a time. Now if you were to drop the price of eggs back down to the original price, the customers would start buying by the dozen again". The distributors sent that proposal to the huge egg farmers but the egg farmers liked the price they were getting for their eggs but, those chickens just kept on laying. Fin ally, the egg farmers lowered the price of their eggs. But only a few cents. The customers still bought 2 or 3 eggs at a time. They said, "when the price of eggs gets down to where it was before, we will start buying by the dozen." Slowly the price of eggs started dropping. The distributors had to slash their prices to make room for the eggs coming from the egg farmers. The egg farmers cut their prices because the distributors wouldn ' t buy at a higher price than they were selling eggs for. Anyway, they had full warehouses and wouldn ' t need eggs for quite a while. And those chickens kept on laying. Eventually, the egg farmers cut their prices because they were throwing away eggs they couldn ' t sell. The distributors started buying again because the eggs were priced to where the stores could afford to sell them at the lower price. And the customers starting buying by the dozen again. Now, transpose this analogy to the gasoline industry. What if everyone only bought $10.00 worth of gas each time they pulled to the pump? The dealer ' s tanks would stay semi full all the time. The dealers wouldn ' t have room for the gas coming from the huge tank farms. The tank farms wouldn ' t have room for the gas coming from the refining plants. And the refining plants wouldn ' t have room for the oil being off loaded from the huge tankers coming from the oil fiends. Just $10.00 each time you buy gas. Don ' t fill it up. You may have to stop for gas twice a week but, the price should come down. Think about it. As an added note...When I buy $10.00 worth of gas that leaves my tank a little under quarter full. The way prices are jumping around, you can buy gas for $2.65 a gallon and then the next morning it can be $2.15. If you have your tank full of $2.65 gas you don ' t have room for the $2.15 gas. You might not understand the economics of only buying two eggs at a time but, you can ' t buy cheaper gas if your tank is full of the high priced stuff. Also, don ' t buy anything else at the gas station; don ' t give them any more of your hard earned money than what you spend on gas, until the prices come down..." just think of this concept for a while.
