  1. AXA Insurance Singapore is making a test case out of its bid to reject any payout to the family of Chinese national Ma Chi, the Ferrari driver who died in a high-speed crash which left two others dead and two injured. If it succeeds in its High Court move, there will be insurance implications for other motorists, especially owners of the growing number of high-performance sports cars here. The insurer claims Mr Ma's recklessness meant that the May 12 tragedy was a "collision" and not an accident, and therefore it should not pay any compensation to his estate. If the courts agree, the insurer will be allowed to claim from Mr Ma's estate all third-party compensation it pays to the other victims. 3. customer who was taking a Renault Megane RS for a test drive lost control of the car and crashed into a stationary private bus outside Punggol Waterway Park at about 1pm today (Aug 15). STOMPer Plumback, who took photos of the accident, said: "I witnessed an accident when a young chap was test driving a showroom Renault Megane RS. 280bhp turbo-charged. "The driver took the corner too fast and side-swept a private bus. "Thankfully no one was hurt."

  6. Was at the showroom at alexandra yesterday to test drive. Waited one hour to finally drive the 1.6. Overall experience quite ok with the car. Superb interior and exterior design but lacking of power as expected. Comes with red leather seats if top up additonal money. For that kind of price, I cannot believe it comes with sports rims, sun roof and 5yrs unlimited warrantly! Really good deal in my opinion. Too bad the SE told me for manual 1.6 he only left one white and one lime green only. The next shipment is next yr Jan. Any bros went yesterday also?
  7. I made use of autobacs free battery test and obtained the detailed print out reports. Over time, you can see the CCA of my battery dropping. With bro KB's advice, I have determined that my alternator charging is ok, but CCA is on the low side after 2 years. but it is still rated as "good battery". Battery details: 55B24R Brand: Trane Silver Battery. Cost: $102+ Rated: 520CCA (but initial battery test shows 570 CCA - quite POWER imho) You can see the 3 battery test reports below. Read from left to right, 1st report July 2010, then Dec 2011, then July 2012. Most recent test on the right. Will wait for bro KB and other battery experts to comment on the reports. For sharing purposes and to learn how to read the reports! And Finally, Thanks Autobacs!!!
  8. Not sure this video is new or old. Found it in the hardwarezone website. http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drin...ki-3767510.html Very nice and powerful BMW. At 2:45 mark, lucky never speed pass the police car.
  9. I think on the 3rd month, I hit the front car when both of us were coming out from the slip road as suddenly he stopped while my head turned right to checked on coming traffic but kept going forward. From then on till today, I make sure the car in front really move off before I also follow.
  10. hi guys, want to relate an incident. went to c&c to check on the latest e class. since i use a gs300, i asked the saleman for something similar in power. he said that a e300 would come closest. i tested the car along leng kee rd at about 60km/hr. then he suggested that he takeover and he wanted to show me how powerful the car is. in my horror, he drove it at 120-130km/hr along leng kee road just outside sm motors and then braked hard to come to a stop at the traffic light. I prayed to god and said i never wanted to test a benz again.
  11. Test drove the bmw active hybrid 5 earlier today. Set out below is my summary. First thing to note is that it is badged as "535" but the volume of the combustion engine is in fact 3.0 litres and it alone pushes out 306 horses. The electric power train, which is nicely tucked away behind the rear passenger seats, dishes out about another 30 horses. The total power output is therefore about 336 horses. Funny thing is that i did not feel as if i was in a car with 336 horses. The usual century acceleration, on paper 5.9s, did not feel quick. In fact, my existing bmw 330, with century sprint of about 7 s, feels faster (i understand of course it is a 3 series). It did not feel agile, but to be fair it was not lethargic either. Boot size was severely compromised because of the electric powertrian sitting right behind the rear passenger seats. The power train is fitted vertically, and this may be sensible than the horizontal mounting found in other hybrid cars. Anyhow, the restricted boot size means the ability to slot in a couple of golf bags requires some creativity. A full decent size luggage is not likely to fit in either. The steering wheel was slightly big for me, but this is because my existing car has a smaller steering and I might be unconsciously biased in this regard. Importantly, the steering response is not as great or engaging as the 328 I recently test drove. While I understand that 535 hybrid is skewed towards the luxury market, the fact is that other luxury cars of the same class seem to have a better steering response. Anyhow, it is not bad and a person with a 'can do' attitude should find it acceptable. But in comparison to the fuel version, the latter comes out tops. Throttle response was also surpringly not as good as the fuel version or even the current 328. This took out the 'active' in 'activehybrid', and made the car non exhilarating. I was of course driving on comfort mode but even then I would prefer something more lively and engaging. I felt bland while driving it. Needed to push the padel deeper to provoke an engaging response. Cabin was of superb quality, no different from the current 5s, but soundwise it was not quiet enough on the pull. I attributed this to the audio of the twin turbo doing their work. However, given the specific market bmw intends to serve, further insulation is welcome. Again, a 'bolek lah' attitude will dispense with this irritation. Suspension and shock absorbers did their jobs while going over humps, but surpringly kept silent when driven over manholes. I actually felt the manholes on my a**. It was rough and noisy, as if a minor explosion had taken place. Given that there are infinite awkwardly positioned manholes on our roads, this would pose a huge concern for someone who wants a truly smooth ride. I could hear 'cronk' each time I went over a man hole. The 328's ability to deal with this is on the other hand extremely superior. It went over humps and absorbed man holes and debris quite easily. Finally, the CO2 emission is greater than the fuel version and i have my doubts over whether mileage is any better. This is sufficient against a hybrid purchase; I would rather have the petrol version. Overall, I think its acceptable if one is not particular. For those who feel that paying a premium implies unencumbered satisfaction, the hybrid would not be an immediate choice. The fuel equivalent or even the current 3 series lineup may be more engaging and a better car overall. I came away with the impression that this car is more of a show case for bmw regarding its new "active hybrid" technology.

  13. You guys may have between 1-30 years of driving experience, or more. If you take the test again today, what chances you think you will pass, 80%, or less? Or 100% sure pass? If your answer is not 100% or 110%, what mistakes you think will likely fail you? My chances are 50/50, due to:- A. Failure to give signals B. Failure to make full stop coming out from side road C. Failure to keep eyes on the road full time (this one really can't be help, too many XMM around D. 90% of the other items on the tester's Checklist
  14. Ever imagine how the SLS AMG would get after a crash? Well rather than seeing it on the road we can always count on the crash test footage. By DAN FITZPATRICK and VICTORIA MCGRANE Some very large banks are clashing with the Federal Reserve over how much detail the central bank will reveal about them when it releases the results of its latest stress test. The 19 biggest U.S. banks in January submitted reams of data in response to regulators' questions, outlining how they would perform in a severe downturn. Now, citing competitive concerns, bankers are pressing the Fed to limit its release of information

  17. I have conducted numerous road test on 5 models - comparing night clarity, day clarity, recording hours, viewing angle versus what is claimed on the product packaging... If you wanna know how they fare, please visit following URL:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQCCNfHKRR0...mp;feature=plcp My conclusion is:- - IR LEDs for night clarity is useless - many specifications are over-stated.e.g. viewing angle, G-sensor, HD quality, etc - HD quality does not equal to clarity. You may get lousy clarity with a BiG file which shortens your recording time. - There are many objects cannot be seen on a lousy night recording clip. Watch to believe... The choice is yours!

  20. From Yahoo!: http://m.yahoo.com/w/news_asia/dna-samples...amp;.lang=en-sg DNA samples from criminal cases to be re-tested after HSA mistake By Fann Sim | Yahoo! Newsroom - 34 minutes ago DNA samples in 87 criminal cases will be re-tested following the discovery of an error by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA)'s DNA profiling laboratory. In a statement on Tuesday, the HSA said in August it was found that a reagent of 10 times higher than usual concentration was prepared and used as part of the DNA testing process. The batch of reagent was used between October 2010 and August 2011, but the impact of the reagent used is small, HSA said. The error rendered DNA tests less sensitive in detecting DNA profiles present in samples. The retesting is expected to yield additional DNA profiles in less than 5 per cent of the samples, HSA added. To date, the first set of re-test results showed that only 2 out of 850 samples indicated additional reportable information, such as a DNA profile of another person not previously detected was obtained. HSA assured that the previous tests will not cause any false positive results leading to wrongful identification of a person or inferring the presence of a person who was not there. Separately, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) released a statement and said it has requested re-testing from the 87 cases in which DNA test results may be relied upon by the Prosecution, the Defence of the courts. DNA evidence by itself does not prove any person
  21. this was a bloody dumb idea in the first place. why target the domestic helpers when they were already letting in any tom, dick and harry in other areas without need for english proficiency. better yet, send all the new immigrants and FTs/FWs for SIP training instead of asking singaporeans to adjust to them. ----- Government scraps English entry test for maids New scheme to help them cope with living working here Published on Dec 5, 2011 By Shuli Sudderuddin The English entry test which has been the bugbear of first-time maids since 2005 will be scrapped. Maids and the agencies that bring them in have said that the test discourages maids from wanting to work here, causes distress to those who fail and can take up valuable training time. Instead, maids will go through a mandatory programme which will help them cope better with living and working here. Background story What's new The mandatory English entry test will be replaced with a mandatory Settling-In Programme designed to ease first-time foreign domestic workers into living and working here. A standard biodata template will be introduced for employment agencies to use, to improve the information on incoming maids such as their employment history, skill sets and how this information has been verified. This will facilitate better matching with employers here. The Association of Employment Agencies and CaseTrust will design this biodata template with the Manpower Ministry. A voluntary 'trust mark' will be awarded to better employment agencies in the market. This will promote best practices in the industry. NOT A GOOD GAUGE 'While the entry test was introduced with good intentions, we have heard from many of you that it is not a meaningful measure of quality.' Minister of State for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin The Settling-In Programme (SIP) will be introduced by the middle of next year, Minister of State for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin said on Sunday. The decision was made following feedback from a review made by the Manpower Ministry (MOM) over the past year, via interviews with 900 maids and 500 employers.

  25. Sharing a funny clip http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504784_162-200...5-10391705.html (CBS) - Some people have very expressive faces. Take for instance the passenger in this video showing a test drive of a Jaguar XKR. Beyond it being obvious that he has probably never done a test drive in high-performance and powerful car, I think it's also safe to assume he is terrified and wants the drive to end. The hilarity kicks in at about 30 seconds into the clip. The video appears to originate from Russia, and I would actually recommend watching it a second time to see just how cool and calm the driver is during the video (especially in comparison to the passenger). He's obviously driven a Jaguar XKR at least a few times in his life. A hilarious video that's bound to get a laugh or two out of you in watching.
