"Police believe that the gang of three intended for the vehicle to be sold in a foreign country."
  9. Hi all, I am posting this to seek advice for my troubled friend. You see, he got to know a Thai girl at the beginning of this year. During this time, they are really happy together and are very much in love. Once, when she went back to Thailand to visit her sick mother, my friend really missed her. That's when he realized he can't do without her. The thing now is, she is holding a student pass, taking up a course here which will end in a couple of months. This means that she cannot stay in Singapore for long, unless they register for a marriage. She has tried to look for job here but it seems that most don't want to consider her as she is not SC/PR. My friend has spoken to his parents who are skeptical about this marriage. His parents are worried that the girl is not serious, just seeking PR status. So if you were in my friend's shoes, what would you do? Anyone here with Thai wife or girlfriend who can comment on this? Generally, how is the idea of a Thai wife? Appreciate all comments or inputs. Thanks.

  11. Now that Thailand has serious flood in many areas, it was reported car manufacturers have newly manufactured cars submerged in floods. So hold back on buying Thai cars. Even if the AD can say the car u getting is not affected by the floods, u will never know. The car may not have flooded, but the dampness and wetness of the flood areas may eat into the car body and interiors. You may see rust and other moulds 6 months later...

  15. SMRT has offered the Thai teen who lost both her legs in an MRT accident here a compensation of $5,000. However, 14-year-old's father has rejected the amount as it is 'unacceptable'. On April 3, Peneakchanasak Nitcharee pitched forward onto the MRT tracks at Ang Mo Kio station. Since then, she has recovered well in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and has been undergoing physiotherapy. According to a report in The Straits Times today (June 12), Mr Peneakchanasak engaged a lawyer last week to look into getting higher compensation from SMRT. It had offered $5,000, which he has rejected. "Unacceptable. This is for a person, a little girl -- a little girl who had a bad accident. From today onwards, there will be more expenses, like the cost of her new legs and rehabilitation," Nitcharee's upset father told the press. The Thai student will be heading home on Monday (June 13). Her wounds have healed fully, and she now moves around in her new electric wheelchair, bought with donations from the Singapore Rotary e-Club. Said STOMPer christopher of the compensation offered: "It is greatly disappointing that SMRT offered such a low and absurb amount of $5k to the Thai teen. "Surely, we can do better than that. "The $5k cannot even cover basic costs. "Please be more humane."
  16. Hi Bros, Any good Thai Restaurant in the East to recommend? Budget is around $60-70per person for dinner. Food quality is more important than enviroment.
  17. Is this considered bribe or the Thai did not pay those immigration officer? Until now no one can answer what practice is this? Wasn't that consider as a bribe? I don't understand why we need to give them RM1? There wasn't any signboard/instructions put up at the surrounding stating that there'll be a fee charged to tourist or processing fee or whatsoever. To me, giving money to a custom officer when he/she is on duty in order to guarantee your entrance into the country is consider a bribe, no matter how big or small the amount of money is. I'm very eager to know why Thai custom officer can ask money from people who cross the border. Can someone please enlighten me.
  18. Xinmsm report: Thai 'kissathon' claims new world record Seven amorous but exhausted couples smooched their way to a new world record in Thailand on Monday with the longest continuous kiss lasting more than 32 hours -- and kept going. The contestants broke the previous world record of 32 hours seven minutes and 14 seconds set in Germany and were vying to become the last ones locking lips for a prize of about $3,250 cash and a diamond ring, organisers said. "I am glad we could set a new record," said Somporn Naksuetrong, general manager of the Louis Tussauds Waxworks in the resort of Pattaya which hosted the Valentine's Day event. He said he was particularly concerned about one 51-year-old woman and her 37-year-old husband. "The wife is weary but not giving up. She is exhausted but she wrote a note to us saying they will be the last couple. I think they will stay until they collapse," Somporn said. Fourteen couples joined the contest, kissing their way through the night without stopping even when sipping liquids through straws or going to the toilet with their partner. They were forbidden from sitting down -- except when going to the toilet -- or falling asleep. Seven dropped out before reaching the new record. hmmmmmmm................. I am also particular about this couple ....... 51yrs woman & 37yrs husband ..... sure can kiss ...................

  20. A Thai court on Tuesday approved an arrest warrant for fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra on terrorism charges, which carry a maximum penalty of death, in connection with recent violent protests. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's government has accused Thaksin of inciting unrest and bankrolling the mass rallies by the opposition "Red Shirts", many of whom seek the return of the former telecoms tycoon. "A court found there was enough evidence so it issued an arrest warrant," Naras Savestanan, deputy chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), told reporters after the closed-door hearing at the Criminal Court. "Now it's the attorney general's job to enforce the warrant," he said. Thaksin was ousted in a bloodless military coup in 2006 and lives in self-imposed exile, mainly in Dubai, to avoid a jail term for corruption. He said the terrorism charges were "politically motivated" and accused the government of human rights abuses. "During my entire political career I have adhered to non-violence and the constitutional monarchy," he said in a statement issued by his legal adviser. "I have never supported violence," Thaksin said. "The arrest warrant against me is unfair. I am ready to prove that I am not a terrorist and the accusation is politically motivated." If found guilty, Thaksin could in theory face the death penalty, but the warrant appears aimed at boosting attempts to extradite Thaksin, who has found sanctuary in several countries. The government has exerted pressure on countries he has visited and moved to freeze his finances. Abhisit said the court ruling and the severity of the charge would help the government's efforts to have Thaksin extradited. "It will make our work with foreign countries easier," he told reporters. "We still have to monitor his movements and seek cooperation in line with existing agreements. As of now many countries are banning him, but not all." The DSI, tasked with investigating violence surrounding the anti-government demonstrations by the Red Shirts, said on Monday it had submitted evidence "which show Thaksin's coordinating role" in the unrest. The street rallies, which were broken up last week by the army, paralysed central Bangkok and descended into several outbreaks of violence that left 88 people dead since mid-March, mostly civilians, and nearly 1,900 injured. Many of the protest leaders have been arrested and are in police custody. Another top Red Shirt, Jatuporn Prompan, went to the DSI on Tuesday to hear terrorism charges against him, but he was not detained because as a member of parliament he enjoys legal immunity. Authorities Tuesday extended a midnight-to-4am curfew in Bangkok and 23 provinces for four nights as the government seeks to restore order in the capital, where arson and looting broke out last week after the army crackdown. Thaksin is idolised by many of the "Red Shirt" protesters for his populist policies, including cheap healthcare and village funds, but Thailand's elite see him as corrupt, authoritarian and a threat to the revered monarchy. His elected allies were later ejected in a controversial court ruling, paving the way for Abhisit's administration to be appointed in a 2008 army-backed parliamentary vote. The Reds, who are campaigning for fresh elections to replace a government they condemn as undemocratic, disbanded last Wednesday in the face of a military offensive that forced their leaders to surrender. Enraged militants within the movement set 36 major buildings ablaze including the stock exchange and Thailand's biggest shopping mall, Central World, which now stands in ruins. A leading human rights watchdog called on the Thai government to commission an independent investigation into abuses by all sides during the recent protests. "Now that the protests are over, the government should properly investigate and prosecute those who broke the law," said Elaine Pearson, acting Asia director at New York-based Human Rights Watch. "Lasting reconciliation begins with accountability." Source : XINMSN News
  21. Curfew may be extended The security forces have yet to complete the mop-up operations against pockets of "terrorists" in parts of Bangkok and the extension of curfew might be deemed necessary, Army spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Thursday. "The prime minister is expected later today to decide about the curfew extension," he said. Sansern admitted last night's curfew had caused a lot of inconveniences but it was unavoidable. He also said the probe was underway to unmask the culprits behind the killings of a number of people seeking refuge inside Wat Pathumwanaram on Wednesday. "The authorities suspect the people were killed by sharpshooters," he said. Nine people were reportedly shot dead inside the temple under mysterious circumstances last night. While I am not taking sides, I am shocked the troops killed people seeking refuge in a temple. There are some lines that shoudn't be crossed. They killed their own and seems to be trying to push the blame to someone else. Ya right, some other army stormed the temple...... Thailand will probably not be the same anymore.
  22. BANGKOK, April 26, 2010 (AFP) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's ruling party moved closer to possible dissolution Monday as an election body submitted a case against it to court. The case, which centres on allegations of misuse of a grant from the Election Commission, comes amid a tense standoff between the government and 'Red Shirt' protesters that has left 26 people dead and almost 1,000 injured. The Election Commission earlier this month called for Abhisit's Democrat Party - the oldest in the country - to be abolished over two allegations of an illegal political donation in 2005 and misuse of a commission grant. Fifty boxes of documents relating to the second count were sent to the Constitutional Court on Monday afternoon. "The court will consider whether and when the hearing should start," said Thanis Sriprathet, the commission's deputy secretary general, adding that there was no time frame for a decision. The other case, which involves allegations of an illegal multi-million-dollar donation to the Democrat Party during 2005 elections, will be forwarded to the Attorney General, who has 30 days to consider it. Thanis said the body was preparing the documents related to that case and expected to send them to the office of the Attorney General by early May. The party has said it will challenge the commission's recommendation, which refers to a donation made when Abhisit was its deputy leader. The Red Shirts, who have been holding mass rallies in Bangkok for weeks, accuse the government of being undemocratic because it came to power in 2008 after the Constitutional Court ousted allies of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
