  1. Sian, yesterday received a note from my kid's childcare centre that they are going to raise their fee by $50 in August and next January by another $50. This has been almost annually, yearly affair and the explanation is standard lame, "due to the raising cost........" Nowaday, seem like when the Gov raise the child subsidy to childcare centre, the childcare centre will followed suit instantly, so in the end, parents are basically paying the same and no sign of improvement in food quality, lessons and every cents really counts for them. They are still afterall talking about being an educator but still a commercial institution and very profit driven in the end! My kid's centre is not those famous one. Can I ask if the quality of education/food either at PAP or NTUC centre on par with private centre to make a similar comparision? I may have consider to change if my kid is not in K2 this year.

  4. A lot of people are first time voters which is pretty much an unknown. Some are diehards, some are not. Maybe a good way to measure PAP is by the vote swing. If you previously voted for PAP but now decided to cast your vote the other way, check it. If you previously voted for any Opposition and regretted it and voted PAP this time, check it. If this is the first time you're voting due to previous walkovers, recent coming of age, etc., this poll is not for you. :p
  5. Anyone selling? So that i can vote for the party i like... Voting is secret... i cannot say who i am voting for.

  17. ST Forum Page 8 Mar Monday: If you have the time, go read the replies posted by Anuradha Singh and Balaji Prasad in response to the post of James Ang's " 'Foreign' doesn't always mean 'Talent' " and Laurelle Ho's " Employment Enclaves".... interesting how these FTs fight back.... Basically based on my personal experience, pple from certain countries are known (most of the pple i know agree with it) to be good in twisting their words and appear as a 'good workers' when they are the slackers behind the bosses.... it's a well know fact although there are also exceptions but rare. It can be due to cultural background etc, I will avoid them if I can but will only advise my other friends to find out for themselves and do not follow my comments. Watch out though, such pple can soon be imposing their own values and habits (good or bad, we'll see) on our society when they think they are no longer 'guests' and start putting demands on the society based on their expectations...... not that they have contributed a bit in the past 50 years in building up the place. We gotta buck up and address this before it's too late. Please correct me if you like.
  18. Hi all, feeling a little fed up. Tend to travel on CTE quite often. I know lane 1 is for fast speeding car.As I am normally driving at 90km/h,I tend to stick to the 2nd lane on the expressway, especially on cte. Why does those vans, lorries alway travel on the 2nd lane at 60km/h?? don't they know they are hogging the road. I know there are very slow trailers on lane 3 but after cutting into lane 2,can't you drive back to lane 3. I don't mind vehicles travelling at 80km but 60km?? Sometime realli pissed off by them,I purposely cut in front of them and drive at 50km.Let them know how it feel. Lane 1 too fast. Lane 3 too slow. I wanna travel at lane 2,also cannot. why can't LTA or TP do something about them.
  19. Having own the Optra for almost 3 years, I don't really have any problem with the car other than having to change the battery recently and 1 tail lamp bulb. The other comment I have with my Chevy is, some noise here and there which is also very apparent with Japanese cars that I owned previously. I guess just too many plastic parts. I am starting this poll just to understand from owners how they feel about their car and if given a 2nd chance, would they buy back a Chevy? Of course you should not take the design or types (2 doors to 4 doors, etc) into consideration. Just that particular car performance alone.
  20. Other than Ferraris, what cars brands / models have a signature colour? Is it true white is the signature colour for the type Rs?
  21. A new limited edition version of the Fiat Stilo 2.4 20v goes on sale throughout Fiat Auto's UK dealer network this weekend (7/8 May). Timed to coincide with the Spanish Grand Prix, where Ferrari's Michael Schumacher will be pushing hard for his first Grand Prix victory of 2005, the new Prodrive-developed UK market bound Stilo Schumacher, which was exclusively revealed by Italiaspeed back in January, has been created as a tribute to Michael Schumacher's fifth consecutive Formula One World Championship Driver's title with Ferrari. The Stilo Schumacher becomes available here in strictly limited numbers - just 200 RHD units will be coming to the UK - and in any colour you like so long as it's Ferrari red! The Stilo Schumacher will be offered here in two different configurations - standard and GP: Standard This 170bhp five cylinder three-door hatchback boasts a new, specially commissioned bodykit; exclusive kick plates and pedals; a powerful hi-fi sound system with steering wheel audio controls, CD, MP3 player and subwoofer; ABS anti-lock braking, ESP and traction control; dual zone climate control, Schumacher logos, and a special plaque numbered appropriately from UK001 to UK200. Stilo Schumacher GP Impressive though this factory specification is, Fiat Auto UK was keen to go a step further, so as to offer customers something even more special. Thus, a unique UK-based chassis development programme was undertaken to bring the car to the level of best in class. Carried out in conjunction with Prodrive, the globally acclaimed, high profile UK specialist automotive engineering concern, this intensive programme has led to the production of an aftermarket handling package known as the Stilo GP kit. The Prodrive developed GP kit, which is a UK fitment, consists of front and rear road springs manufactured by Eibach, Bilstein front struts and rear dampers, 7 x 18" OZ Superturismo alloy wheels, low profile 215/40 ZR18 Continental Contisport Contact 2 tyres, and a stainless steel rear silencer with twin outlet pipes. The kit has been created to produce a more sporty car, both in terms of looks and driver involvement, and is designed to appeal to customers seeking exclusivity in the 'hot hatch' market. A more sporty look has been achieved through lowering the Stilo to give a slight nose- down stance compared to the standard car, (approximately 25mm lower at the front, and 17mm at the rear), with uniform wheelarch clearances front and rear. The twin outlet stainless steel rear silencer visually highlights the more sporting nature of the car, and the restrained yet sporty exhaust note amplifies the attractive sound characteristics of Fiat Auto's twin overhead camshaft five cylinder 20V engine. click here for Fiat Stilo Schumacher GP photo gallery click here for Fiat Stilo Schumacher GP photo gallery New suspension settings were developed through extensive testing, both at Prodrive's private test facilities near Warwick, and on specific sections of public road including motorways, 'A' roads and challenging 'B' roads. The aim of the engineering developments was to enhance the sporty potential of the standard car for the more enthusiastic driver, without compromising its comfortable ride. Key to enhancing this sporty nature is to offer good steering response with informative feedback, and to inhibit the comparatively large body motions of roll and pitch, so the car feels 'tight' and well connected to the driver. It is the judicious combination of springs, dampers and tyres in the GP kit that achieves this aim. Increased spring rates help to reduce roll and pitch angles, allowing the vehicle to be cornered 'flatter', and thus giving the driver more confidence. The reduction in ride height, particularly at the front, lowers the centre of gravity slightly and also lowers the front roll centre. This inclines the vehicle's roll axis further, which gives the dual benefits of reducing steady state understeer and improving steering response. The bespoke new dampers were especially designed for the GP kit by Bilstein, and were then fine-tuned by Prodrive, on both road and track, to provide an enhanced sporty character. Front struts and rear dampers are a gas filled mono-tube design, which offers increased body control and greater fade resistance. The damper tune significantly increases body control, in roll, yaw and pitch, but maintains a significant level of compliance, so bumps and ridges on the road are well absorbed. This is particularly noticeable during motorway driving, where the level of comfort is very similar to the standard car. The change to 18" OZ Superturismo wheels and low profile Continental Contactsport 2 tyres has dramatically increased the grip level and improved steering response and feedback. This is attributable to a reduced sidewall height that has less distortion under load and keeps the contact patch flatter on the road. The Continental tyre structure and compound maintain a significant amount of vertical compliance, allowing a comfortable ride, but with increased lateral stiffness benefits. Overall, the Stilo Schumacher GP provides customers with the option of creating a more sporty looking and handling car, while retaining the standard vehicle's comfortable ride and secure handling, making this exclusive Stilo a real competitor in a performance arena currently dominated by the Ford Focus ST170 and Vauxhall Astra SRi Turbo. 23. Why do we singkies nowadays have such a loser's mentality? Can we return to the good old days, bitch less and work harder to overcome obstacles? From http://forum.channelnewsasia.com/viewtopic.php?t=395245 "Sheer hard work and determination" How do these FTs compare to our locals who: 1) do not speak Chinese at home 2) demand that Chinese must be fun in order for them to learn 3) struggle with Chinese as a result 4) fail Chinese for obvious reasons (do not read, do not speak, do not watch, do not bother, how to pass?) 5) demand that Chinese weightage must be lowered so that they can compete 6) best of all, make Chinese optional How to compete with such a mindset? -------- A GROUP of China-born students at Crescent Girls' School powered themselves from F9s to A1s for English in just two years. Asked for their secret, the girls, who failed English when they started out in Secondary 3 here in January 2009, said sheer hard work and determination made this possible. And they did not work on just their English in those two years. All seven scored nine A1s in the O levels they sat last year. Then again, they are obviously bright: They all found mathematics here a breeze because they were getting far tougher questions back home; science also presented little difficulty because they had covered Singapore's O-level science syllabus by the time they finished the equivalent of Secondary 3 in China. They also found Higher Chinese easy, and most of them chose to take Chinese literature as their humanities subject. But English was their Mount Everest. It was one of the reasons they were placed in Secondary 3 here - to give them a year to work at the language - though by age, they should have been in Secondary 4.
  24. i bot 6 btl of c a r l u b e from Giant and the oil comes with free oil additive... I never believe in such thing cos i believe that it is just to thicken the oil and makes the engine feels smoother and more quiet. but in the 1st plce, if buying higher vicosity oil can achieve the same result, why spend more to add oil additive? Since i was given free, it doesnt make sense for me to throw away. im currently using Amsoil 5W20 and Im hitting 9000km and i believe my oil would have shear a more or less... so, I decided to add 1/2 bottle to thicken it a bit, even if the additive is harmful, Im gg to change my oil in a few hundred km anyway. No harm to try... So, yesterday night, I added 1/2 bottle in and start my engine to check the effect... engine become more quiet (as expected), i didnt test drive cause its quiet late alrd.... This morning, when I drive the car to work, i can feels that the engine is not as smooth as before, its kind of rought but the strange side is, its very quiet... I know that i sounds funny cause if the engine is not smooth, it should be more noisy but thats how i felt... can anyone explain? also, at the same time, wish to check with the rest who tried this oil additive and care to share your expereince?
  25. I'm currently have attachment in this company, but the office is on this platform. The platform is built by the company below us privately. They rented the space to the company I'm in now. So it gets really shaky whenever someone walk around. My fellow attachment friend has a habit of shaking his legs, when he shake his legs the entire platform is vibrating. Maybe its just my area cause I'm next to him. How do I make him stop shaking without offending him?
