  2. Situation: New car purchase. Policy 1: First year new-for-old replacement for total loss; but high excess ($1,000+). Policy 2: No new-for-old replacement for total loss (just at mkt value); but low excess (low hundreds). Thinking: If accident, more likely not total loss. Policy 1 covers the rarer situation, but when it happens, it takes care of a huge loss. Policy 2 covers the more likely to happen situation, and takes care of a smaller loss. Which policy would you go for (both premiums about the same)? Also, wondering how common is the NCD protection clause? How many of you pay extra for this?
  3. Make way for private car ads He gets $100 a month for putting these stickers on car HIS car gets a lot of stares from other road-users - it is an advertisement on wheels Mr Franco Lim, 29, who is self-employed, took up the offer to become a 'Rendriver' and his red Toyota is now adorned with gigantic stickers. He recently saw fliers from Renvertising, a new advertising company, offering to supplement the rising costs of owning a car in Singapore. He gets $100 a month from the company to flaunt its promotional stickers on the side of his car. While advertisements are common on buses and taxis, Renvertising has its eye on the untapped market of private cars. Those who sign up must travel a minimum of 500km a month. Asked if he was concerned about other people's reactions, Mr Lim would only say: 'I don't know what they are thinking when they stare at me.' Still, he is thrilled with his car's new look. He told The New Paper he liked the idea so much that he would consider advertising his own clothing business on his car in future. And far from thinking that it looks like a taxi, his friends and family commented that the decorations make his Toyota look like a 'flashy sports car'. Other Rendrivers contacted by The New Paper said their initial apprehension about a garish design on their cars was misplaced. The family of foreman Ng Kheng Leong, 51, was concerned that the stickers would damage the paint of his new car. His daughter, Ms Cindy Ng, 24, said the company assured them that it uses 'high-quality stickers that would not cause damage'. 'We could approve the design first, and it turned out looking quite funky,' she said. Joining the scheme has enabled Mr Lim to cut his monthly $200 fuel costs by almost half. Student Celia Lim, 25, is also happy to defray her fuel costs by allowing advertising on her car. 'Petrol prices are getting so expensive. It is a great way to help out with the bills,' she said. Mr Jeff Peh, 24, one of Renvertising's three partners, said its original goal was to cater to the needs of drivers. The three-month-old company currently offers only two choices of advertisement - one for itself and the other for a client. It has recruited about 130 drivers so far.

  6. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_246672.html A WOMAN was spared from going to jail for running a brothel and for corruption - thanks to her nine-month old baby girl. Li Chunmei, 40, a Chinese national, was instead fined a total of $15,000 on four charges. . . The court heard that when police raided Mei Yuen on Dec 28, 2006, three women who had provided sexual services were arrested. The business also did not have a valid licence for a massage parlour. Li, who had registered the business under Low's name, collected $100 a day form each of the three women. - - - Anyone knows if foreigners who are convicted of crimes here get sent back home? $15K is nothing to this FT considering that her 'income' alone was a least $9K a month (3 chickens x 30 days x $100 a day).

  8. 1. Hi all, please see these pics: 2. These pics were taken from Taiwan Auto Driver Magazine in car review. 3. 1st of all, which is your choice of a dashboard design? 4. Then, I've some questions : a) Do you know which one has the most "plasticky" feel in this review? b) Which has the best design and feel in term of assembly and material used? c) Which one the highest equipment level (subjective because we've stripped down version in SG)? Thank you for voting. Regards,
  9. 1. Whether it is Value for money to the rich ones or just simply your favourite premium brand, tell us why you vote for it? 2. IMHO, the Two Bs (BMW and Benz) are certainly very successful global premium brands, what do you think that make them more successful than the rest? 3. Jaguar has been taken over by TATA, do you think it will diminish its brand appeal? 4. Why do people think safey, think Volvo? Are we saying the safety features of the rest are not as good as Volvo? 5. Saab has recently won the car of the year 08 by car buyers' guide. Do you think it has what it takes to beat the rest in term of popularity? 6. Audi, probably one that produced an A4 2.0L with just 130bhp. Do you think its new TC A4 will prove us wrong? Thank you very much. Regards,

  11. Squash: Less of this sport mentioned in local and international scene. Used to be dominated by the Khans in the 80s. Singapore has its own Zainal Abidin. Dont see many squash courts been built nowadays. New CCs and condos normally give priority to swimming pool, gym and tennis courts. Carrom: Played alot during poly time. Nowadays, kids/adults all play computer games, Internet. Soon these carrom boards will be used for mahjong tables. WRC: someone commented in another forum that this sport will slowly die out. What with all the major teams pulling out, now left like 3-horse race. Financially, quite difficult to sustain without following and sponsorship. Any more?

  14. We see the decadance of society especially the young. The young here refers to the teens somewhere between the age of 17-20 The get into relationship easily, disregard modesty. For example going out with strangers, in their vehicle. They tend to see relationship and sex as something akin to fashion... They get involved with older men and get wasted, Money is their key objective where older working men can satisfy their needs monetarily and of course a free ride. We do notice a trend in "acting virgin" where people who are borishly handling their sexuality pretending to be an innocent naive little damsel. This irksome shift in society has greatly caused many unwanted pregnancies and degrading of moral standards... in short.. singapore's future jialat liao

  19. No need to keep thinking or argue whether the Alfa specs in SPR are the real deal or not... just a sample of what it should be if it really WAS! These are Ti versions of the 159, brera & the GT Q2 with exterior & interior trim updates... notice the GT grille with REAL brushed steel trimmings... the burnished/wine stained leather interior of the alfa SPYDER - u think JACKSPEED in spr follow this same standard? (and who said Alfa interiors were crap quality?) One thing i noticed when at he Tokyo motorshow... the Alfa booth staff seem to be much more "dao" then the rest of the other marques leh... ALL their show cars were LOCKED... and there was a 300+ strong queue of ppl waiting in line for the Alfa Romeo brochure..... I would have thought that el-cheapo Alfa would have no one at their booth or maybe tat was a tactic to make the booth look busy? No other marque required you to Q for their brochures etc.. i didnt bother to wait. oH YA... just a bit of car nut TRIVIA for anyone interested: My photography not good so the special 8C paint work turns up more orange colour in me photos... it is actually a very deep red. And do not go mistaking this paint to be similar to the MICA metallic Red on the RX8 or special edition Metallic Red Lexus GS300 at the show... u could see the metallic bits in the paint on the Jap makes... but for the 8C red, it was a SILVER metalic film covered with a CLEAR RED tint lacquer... so u do not see flakey gold bits in the red paint at all. cheers
