  5. I have seen the 175 to 235 tyres all uses the same thread design. The water grooves are same width. Shouldn't smaller tyres 175 have narrower water grooves, as there is lesser volume of water to push out from the smaller footprint? Sometimes I wonder how the tyres thread are designed for wide or narrow tyres? The reason is same thread design on different sized tyres do give different results. Which is why nowadays, the tyres test must state the tyres size and whether front/rear wheel drive.
  6. My longest time spent on the same job was 7yrs++, learned the most during the time. Shortest is less than 2 months (2 such jobs/situations).... realised within the 1st week of work I shouldnt be wasting time with the job. Another 2-month stint was planned as a stepping stone to the next job. Next job's boss knew previous job's boss well wont take staff from him. I had to use the stepping-stone method to overcome this.
  7. Saw this movie about budget tyre. I am going to change my Jazz tyre soon. Looking at Nexan N8000 or similar tyre with straight threads and deep grooves. But seems like not all sporty looking tyres are good tyres. Ayone knows what is the brand and model of the budget tyre shown in the video? Looks like N8000 but I believe it'd not. Just want to avoid this budget tire when I change my tyres.
  8. Friday Humor! Got off SBF It might be well to be a bit knowledgeable about earthquakes in case someone asks or wants to know more about them. Since science was my chosen profession for 35 years, I might be a bit more able than most to explain it. In hopes of a "knowing" society, I present this. What's the difference between an oscillatory and a trepidatory earthquake? 1. This calculation is just for engineers: This is a trepidatory earthquake: This is an oscillatory earthquake: And this is a combination of both: (trepidatory and oscillatory) Science is beautiful when it is well explained... I am sure you would like some privacy to study this subject in greater detail. Disclaimer: Taken off SBF and is an excellent educational article. Pity the chewren go back to school

  12. This is about some funny/unique incidents about your charbo colleagues. Tell you about my previous lady 'boss'......... Description: lets just call her not-too-young mei mei..... Background: fastfood marketing senior position before current post, not my direct boss, but got 'dotted-line' linking my position with hers Physical: shape: ok 的, nothing to shout about, nothing to complain also, 1.52m, average built, nehneh? <-------- not the first thing you'll notice Hair: long freezy, should be about 20years out-of-date Dressing: ocassionally normal, usually 'weird' colour combo Cars: sometimes 6-series, something a 4x4 Face: 马马虎虎 aka horse-horse-tiger-tiger ie so-so Best part: still searching Potential: should be backward-potential ie in her younger days, maybe could pass (just) as a chio bu Funny incident: 2009, 13th Aug or there about, a Friday, she co-chaired a meeting, which ended up lasting 4.5 hours long (what the hell, so long!?) .... this is her 'trademark' as far as the length of meetings chaired by her goes.... As this was a Friday, she also dressed down..... some kind of lacey, semi-see-thru (not that there's much to see-thru) blouse with a similar flower pattern short and filmsy skirt (OMG........) About halfway thru the meeting, her hp rang, she picked it up, and spoke to the caller, from her tone, we guessed someone from the Board called.... she looked abit kang-chiong, stood up and walked out of the room, but as soon as she stood up from her chair and turned her back towards us, her flimsy skirt got stuck to her buttock but rode all the way up, exposing almost her entire thighs from the back (maybe missed her panties by 1mm)........ all the men in the room (about 6 of us) were like "eyes popped out", mouth wide-open........... and all controlling hard not to burst into laughters.......... not say her thighs not nice or what, in fact smooth and fair, just that it's something we neither expected nor desired............. once she disappearted into the corridor outside the room, we all made all kinds of faces at each other... and the boring meeting finally gave us some reliefs... Strangely, during the remaining 2 hours, the Board members called twice again, and she did the same............. The above is true, although not very funny, just good enough to give us men a much needed break during the meeting

  16. Rises in COE premiums: Were speculative elements the cause? by Wayne Chan 05:55 AM Dec 24, 2010 SINGAPORE - Were speculative elements behind the recent sharp rises in Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums? That is what the Government parliamentary committee chairman for transport, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, wants to know. Dr Lim told MediaCorp that he has filed a question on the issue to be addressed by the Transport Minister at the next Parliamentary sitting. COE premiums have been rising, going over the $70,000 mark in the latest bidding exercise on Wednesday. And many - including car buyers, car dealers and others in the industry - want to know what caused the recent surge. Dr Lim said: "With the sudden run in prices over the last two bidding sessions, I hope that the Land Transport Authority will be looking very closely into the bidding patterns as well as who are the ones that are bidding these COE prices up. Are they individuals or are they the car dealers themselves?" He said if there are speculative elements like what was seen 10 years ago, then the Government may need to step in. Industry players told MediaCorp that some dealers who were successful in bidding for COEs could be selling them at a higher price to other dealers who had buyers for their vehicles but were not able to secure COEs. Apart from prospective car buyers, the rising COE premiums are also putting the strain on courier and delivery companies. Some of these firms have turned to buying second-hand vehicles or renting them. Mr Paul Ng, operations executive with WARP Logistics Trading and Services, told MediaCorp: "If we buy a new vehicle, it would cost much more than if we were to rent it for a particular month." And if business declines the following month, the company will not have to face the recurrent cost of monthly instalments, which would have been the case if the company had bought a vehicle. Delivery companies said they may have to increase their charges by 20 per cent next year to pay for rising operating expenses - arising from road tax, parking and ERP changes. Parallel importers have also come up with new ways to increase sales, such as sharing the cost of COE premiums with buyers. Some dealers are resorting to selling second-hand cars, as the prices of such vehicles are more stable. To improve the COE system, Dr Lim suggested curbing vehicle financing to 70 per cent of the value of the vehicle, instead of the current 90 per cent. Dr Lim also suggested that the authorities "let the buyers bid for what they want to pay". Said Dr Lim: "(This) means that when you bid for it you pay the actual price for what you bid. Rather than the current system where you pay the lowest (bid), not the highest." ADDITIONAL REPORTING BY LYNDA HONG AND SEET SOK HWEE
