  1. Guys.. Just want to ask....is the brake system in someway link with the throttle system? I realised that sometimes my brake can be low and spongy but sometimes, it can be be pretty high and tight too. However, when that happens..the accelerator feels the same way too....light and smooth when the brake is low and spongy but stiff when the brake is high and tight. Are these two systems related in some parts?
  2. Hi woos and chevys, i've got lobang to buy the throttle body which is bore 4mm bigger and butterfly bigger. The price is S$250.00. The origin is from korea. They used the original part and mod it. But i'm not sure whether the aveo has the same throttle as the woos. I hope we can do a group buy so that i can ask discount from the koreans.
  3. Hi Anyone can rec me a brand to buy? I saw STP carb cleaner but it does not state can be use for current direct injection car. Can someone rec me a place to buy, i am driving a corolla.
  4. Readers of enthusiast performance magazines will probably recall seeing advertisements for "oversized throttle bodies". The claims expound on improvements in engine breathing that follow from fitting a larger-than-stock throttle body to an automobile engine. What the sales pitches do not explain, however, is that the effective diameter of the intake system is only as large as its smallest opening -- generally the inlet of the intake manifold! IMPROVING WHAT YOU'VE GOT Although the size of the intake manifold inlet will eventually limit airflow, there are a number of simple throttle body modifications that will improve engine breathing at marginal cost. Two such methods are "knife edging the throttle plate" and "flush-fitting throttle plate screws". KNIFE EDGING The volume and velocity of air passing through the throttle body will be determined by the aerodynamic properties of the throttle plate. Performance engine builders know this all too well and often fit complicated sliding throttle mechanisms to regulate airflow into their competition motors. Mainstream automobile manufacturers, however, often overlook the humble throttle plate when tuning an engine for optimum power. Such is the case with Volvos where throttle plates are simply "punched" from thick brass sheet. Punched throttle plates are characterized by their blunt leading edges that promote airflow separation at high velocities. The result is a throttle plate that will effectively regulate airflow, but fails to promote maximum breathing as engine speed rises. By carefully removing the throttle plate and beveling its leading edge, airflow through the throttle body will more closely resemble the theoretical limit afforded by the bore. Note that a trailing edge bevel is not required as the throttle shaft introduces virtually unavoidable turbulence at the throttle plate's mid-point. Readers will note that the edge of the leading edge of the "after" picture is reduced, but not entirely eliminated as sufficient material will be required to effectively seal the throttle body at idle! Flow across the throttle plate will be improved after careful modification. The result is greater power -- particularly at high rpm when airflow is at its greatest! FLUSH FITTING SCREWS The next "quick and dirty" little trick to improving throttle body performance is to flush fit the screws that retain the throttle plate to the shaft. In most cases, this is very straight-forward with the elimination of the thread locking tabs that prevent the screws from backing out. In situations where button-head screws protrude above the throttle shaft, however, an appropriate flat-head screw in carefully beveled seat will be required. With the locking tabs removed, however, an appropriate thread sealer will be required to prevent the screws from vibrating free. One of the better products for this task is Loctite
  5. Is there a throttle coolant feed to cars imported to hot climate countries like ours and has anyone done a bypass as this feed is meant for winter weathers only. How's the performace after the simple mod? anyone?
  6. what do you actually do when cleaning throttle body?? can someone enlighten me?
  7. You guys have any idea what is the fuel consumption of the new sunny? Went down to the showroom and was told that the CVTC engine is more fuel efficient. Cliamed to be abt 12-13km/L. Not sure whether this is true? But i would be glad if this is a reality. So guys pls share if you drive this car and comments on its performance and other stuffs as well... Know Tan Chong Motors offer some kits to enhance fuel efficiency. You guys know what are they? Effective and the cost? Note: Heard that next year 04', there will be a complete New Sunny? Is this true? How it dffers from this one?
  8. Hey guys My car's selespeed will automatically blip the throttle when I down shift. So I am curious about how its done in a manual car. How do you do that in a manual car? Do you always blip your throttle when you downshift? Is it difficult to get it right? Cheers Cool_jazz
  9. Besides the Apexi SAFC/VAFC Does any other electronic add on have a throttle monitor? Does the Apexi RSM have this feature? Anyone know?
  10. Check this URL out! http://www.2003corolla.org/diy.php?diy=16 Do u ever wonder when u start up ur car from cold and drive off for the 1st 5 min, it feels more powerful until the engine warms up? Taken from the site:- "This mod will make the car drive and have power like it does in the first 5 minutes when you start it in the morning. It will run like that all day."
  11. Anyone DIY themselves before? my corolla's throttle body acts like an oil catch tank and there is quite a bit of oil sludge in there which is (I believe) hampering air flow. If the car is old, would it just be better to replace the thottle body with a new one altogether? Other alternative is to go and buy car cleaner spray and try to clean out the insiders of the throttle body. Any comments?
  12. Any one got lobang to bore up throttle body?
