  1. On a Sunday morning during car wash, I noticed that one of rear tires was noticeably running out of gas. A close inspection confirmed my suspicion that a puncture has occurred, thanks to a nail. Being a virgin in tire replacement, I count myself lucky that the incident occurred when my car is parked nicely in the carpark rather than in the middle of the road. After the car wash was completed, I proceed to retrieve the car manual and informed my dad about the puncture. He said this was a good training opportunity for me and so basically he became the supervisor and I became the worker. Here are some points that I noted after my first lesson in tire replacement and would like to share them with those who are as green as me in such matters: 1.) Loosen the nuts slightly using a spanner before jacking up the car. The rationale behind this is that if the car is jacked up before the nuts are loosened, the wheel may turn as you try to loosen them, making the task rather difficult. However, do not remove the nuts completely as the wheel may risk falling off unexpectedly as the car is being jacked up, causing injury. 2.) Do not lay underneath the car. Serious injury can occur if the jack gives way. 3.) Make sure there is sufficient ground clearance space not just to remove the punctured tire, but to install the spare tire. Take note that the inflated spare tire would require more ground clearance space than a deflated tire. 4.) After the spare tire has been positioned nicely on the disc rotor, gently secure it using your hands with the nuts. Use the spanner to tighten the nuts only after the jack has been lowered. Otherwise, the wheel may turn as you try to tighten. Finally, get the punctured tire repaired as soon as possible before another tire becomes unserviceable. You never know when Murphy
  2. opinions needed.... My S drive (205/45/16)got a nail near the sidewall few months ago and was plugged... so far so good.. it didnt leaked.. As of now...i have neutron nt5k back (30%) and front S drive (60-70%) i was thinking of wearing my S drive and change to 4 at one time in a yrs time... however im going genting 2 months later with my family... i was wondering whether i am putting them at risk.... max speed (150km/hr) there are options i exploring 1) rotate front / back as mine is FWD (make sense?) 2) change 4 but look for cheaper alternative like KU31 3) rotate front / back and change 1 pair of S drive... 4) dont bother, travel slightly slower.... 5) others??
  3. Increased demand from China and the recovery of the Japanese automotive industry after the earthquake have resulted in a surge in demand for tires, but the downside is that it has also increased the price for rubber, according to Bloomberg. During the first half of 2011, China has produced more cars than GM and Volkswagen put together, and Japan has seen its largest increase in sales in the past three decades. Demand for new tires will thus reduce the global rubber stocks to 12 percent in 2012, according to a market analysis from Citigroup. As a result, prices could rise by 18 percent by December, and should be felt by end consumers.
  4. Assumption: Car to be in parking lot in Singapore:- A tyre found to be flat among the 4 tire. You got no spare tyre. You got no compact spare tyre. If the flat tyre is among the front tire (for front wheel drive). Loosen the wheel nuts for the side where the flat tyre is found. Chocked the wheels on the other side of the car. Jack the car at the fulcrum to that both wheels leave the ground about the same height. Inter-change the flat front wheel complete with the tyre with the rear wheel/tyre. Secure the respective wheel nuts. Lower the car with the jack. Check that all wheel nuts are secured. Retrieve the wheel chocks You are ready to drive off. Do try to have the flat tyre repaired/replaced as soon as possible. Drive within assumed speed limits for wet and slippery road. Anyone with other observations to share?

  12. Im not too sure Im the only one having such problem... my car boot is filled up with amps and woofer, its a major project for me to check my spare tyre air pressure as i need to spend more than 1 hour to remove everything and shift it to my house b4 i could go to petrol kiosk to pump air for my spare tyre.. Read from somewhere that there are actually some simple gadget. an air tube, 1 end connected to spare tyre, and the other end is connected with a valve, and place at a convinient location so that it is easier to pump air into the spare tyre... anyone came across such product? or is there any idea that is more creative than this gadget?

  17. I wanted a new sport rim/tires and hve checked with the popular shop such as jewellery(PH), cinema(EW) and SB. Though they're cheap but not the cheapest. Thru recommendation from friend, I visited a tire shop in Ubi named K..nda Tire. They quoted the cheapest and savings of $80.00 for a set of brand new rim/tires. The shop boss, Uncle Joseph is vry friendly, patience and have a GOOD pair of caring ears listening to your needs. He is not pushy nor telling you to buy because it' the last set and no stock. Certainly, I would not hesitate to do business with him nor am selling his services here but good lobangs are to be share with forummers here.
  18. Hi. During tyre rotation, I just realised that my left front tyre is almost worn out (tire wear indicator disappeared) and now it is at the rear wheel. I am goIng for a wheel alignment at Kenny. Should I change the tyre or change 2 tyres or change all four? I will be travelling to Kl in June. Any recommended tyre shops at AMK AutoPoint?

  22. Hi I'm a bit confused on this area... If there is a label on the tyre that says max pressure is 350, so my setting on the air pump is not more than this. But the label found on the car (driver side) states a different measurement like 2.1 or 4.2kgf something? This means what?
