  2. Hello, bro and sis out there, does anyone got any ideal workshop for tire rotation and balancing and roughly how much will it cost?

  4. Hi guys, wonder if you are able to give a little advice on my situation. I got my new car 2 months ago and I pumped my tires to 220kPa in the 2nd week. Last week (about 1 mth after the the tires were last pumped), I noticed the behind right tire looked a little saggy. I went to the pump and pumped it back to 220kPa again. Today, I realised that it has became saggy again. When I asked around, was told it could be a punctured tire. But the strange thing is, I have been driving around for at least a few weeks with the tire in this state. Can a punctured tire last for so long or was it not punctured? Help!!
  5. I encounter wheel spin with front wheel drive when accelerating from 0km/h on a wet surface . Is changing of tire compound adequate to prevent wheel spin? (eg. sports maxx, T1R, R-S2). my current tire spec Falken ZE326 205/45/16 3.9% smaller in diameter compared to stock size I know nearer to stock is definitely better but can I stick to 205/45/16? if I must change tire profile (eg. both 195/50/16 & 215/45/16 are about 2.3% smaller in diameter compared to stock), wider better or narrower?
  6. hi all bros, justwanted to ask opinion on which tires is best for my fren's 3 yr old thai camry 2.0 it's currently running on stock 15 rims and 205/65 R 15 tires the tires are the OEM Bridgestone Turanza ER 30 tires which is a grand tourer tire, means comfort and less performance i was checking on line and found that most people put on either Potenza GIII or michelin energy MX4 . the michelin MX4 plus seems to be my favourite tire can anyone recommend a quiet tire with good grip for 15 inch ? and a good place to get them? thanks in advance
  7. Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone got a portable air compressor to recommend. My requirements are 2-fold. 1st. I intend to use it to keep my tires properly inflated instead of going to the petrol station all the time - it's about 5km away, in which time the tire heats up, and also i become too "lazy" to bother as it's out of the way. 2nd. My emergency pump in case i get a flat. I can use it to fill up the tire with enough air to reach a tire shop or mechanic. This too me leaves me with a choice in case changing the tire right there and then is not possible - eg on the NS highway at night. Given this is my requirement, the compressor needs to be : 1. Able to pump up to 250 kpa/psi (sorry can't remember which is which) 2. Needs to be reasonably accurate (otherwise no point) 3. Preferably operate by the ciggy lighter 4. Small and portable. I spotted one at DIY shop that claims to pump to 250 psi/kpa, and has a emergency torce on it as well. But it's about the size of 2 phone directories (hence big) and doesn't seem very well made. I tend to doubt that i can pump to 250psi. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone got alternative pumps to recommend? I don't mind the footpump either, but i was told that i won't get 250psi/kpa from a foot pump, not sure true or not.
  8. HI anyone can advise wat brand tyres come with 195/55/16???
  9. See what I posted in reply to Fisheye about the Federal Tire SS 595. It looks like he got a real good bargain for the tire at $64 per tire. "Grip is as good as a T1S" Hmmm...... Will this break the cheapo performance tire reign of Kumho 712?
  10. TIRE RATINGS Definition: On the sidewall of every tire is information about tire size, maximum load rating, maximum inflation pressure, tire construction (See Radial Tire) and performance standards. Treadwear is a comparative rating of how long the tire will last compared to other tires. The higher the number, the longer the predicted life of the tread. A tire with a 200 rating should go twice as many miles as one with a 100 rating. Related Terms
  11. Tire Myths...and Reality "Black and round." If that sums up the bulk of your knowledge about tires, you could be missing out on some key facts. By Rik Paul Myth: I should inflate my tires according to the pressure indicated on the tire sidewall. Fact: The handwriting's not on the wall--the tire sidewall, that is. Molded into the sidewall is the tire's maximum inflation pressure, not the manufacturer-recommended pressure. For normal operation, follow inflation pressure recommendations in the owner's manual or on the vehicle placard located in the glovebox or on the door post. Myth: A tread pattern is needed to provide great traction on dry roads. Fact: A racing slick--a tire without any tread--provides the ultimate in dry traction due to the maximum amount of rubber touching the road. A tread pattern, with its groove voids, actually compromises this adhesion capability on dry roads. The role of tire tread is to act as a squeegee on wet roads to remove water from under the tire and channel it through the grooves for improved wet traction. Myth: Performance tires wear out faster because of the sticky compounds. Fact: Performance tires may wear out faster than conventional family-car tires; however, tread rubber polymers aren't the culprits. In fact, new polymers and ultratensile steel constructions make performance tires last longer than ever. Industrywide, performance tires average about 45,000 miles in tread life, similar to the figures for family-car passenger tires. Fast wear usually is due to high-horsepower vehicles fitted with the tires and aggressive driving. Jackrabbit starts and quick stops can shorten the life of any tire. Myth: Wide tires provide better traction under all weather conditions. In fact, putting oversize snow tires on a car delivers better snow traction. Fact: The opposite is actually true. Wide tires tend to "float" on deep snow, and the tread lugs never have a chance to "dig" through to the road surface to gain traction. Narrow tires are a better option in deep snow. The tire acts similarly to a knife cutting through butter; the blade works best when using the narrow edge to push through the butter rather than the wide flat side of the blade. Myth: All-season tires are so good that winter tires are never needed. Fact: In some parts of the country, this may be true, but if you live in the northernmost states or in Canada, the traction provided by winter tires can't be beat. Winter tires reign supreme in rural areas where snow remains on the road for days. They provide 25-percent-improved traction in deep snow over all-season tires. Metal-studded tires deliver up to 40 percent greater traction on hard-packed snow and ice over all-season tires, but many locales have restrictions regarding the use of studs. Myth: Never rotate tires from side to side, only front to back. Fact: Radial tires can be crossed from side to side in the rotation pattern. The old front-to-back rule applied to bias ply tires. Regular tire rotation--every 6000 to 8000 miles--promotes more uniform wear for all tires on a vehicle. (Goodyear recently designed a light-truck tire system that requires no rotation; the Wrangler RF-A provides a rear tire with a different tread design from the front tire). Myth: Put your new tires on the drive-wheel position to get the most traction. Fact: This is only true on a rear-drive vehicle. In all cases, install new tires on the rear axle. Most tire buyers purchase new rubber for the drive-wheel position to get the most traction; however, by doing so they transfer most of their traction capabilities from the rear and make it susceptible to oversteer. The vehicle's rear will fishtail and swing out in fast cornering or emergency maneuvers. Myth: Sticking your fingernail in the tread can help you pick the tire with the softest compounds, and thus, the best adhesion. Fact: It's sort of like kicking the tire, but with another part of your anatomy. Tread compounds only tell part of a tire's story. Tread pattern, tire shape, and tire footprint shape on the pavement provide clues to its adhesion capabilities. Don't rely on the fingernail test. Myth: The government tests tires for traction, temperature resistance, and treadwear and assigns grades molded onto the sidewall. Fact: Uniform Tire Quality Grading is a federal law that requires tire manufacturers to grade their own tires for treadwear, traction, and temperature resistance. Tire manufacturers, not the government, test tires and assign their own grades. Unfortunately, the government has not prescribed a formula for converting the manufacturer test results into universal grades; therefore, the numbers are not objective. According to the Federal Trade Commission, treadwear grades are for comparison purposes only and are not intended to be converted into anticipated or promised tire mileage. Myth: An undulation on a tire sidewall is a weak spot that could lead to tire failure. Fact: An undulation is created where materials overlap each other in the tire carcass, and it actually is the strongest part of the tire. Still, motorists perceive a "wave" on the sidewall as a defect. Goodyear's new ultratensile steel reinforcement eliminates this material splice and overlap. Ultratensile steel should reduce sidewall undulation in polyester-reinforced tires. Myth: Before you buy a car, kick the tires. Fact: It might not tell you much about the vehicle or tires, but it could tell you whether your shoe padding is adequate.
  12. Hi guys, anyone of u out there wats the stock tire size of toyota corolla g9? CHEERS
  13. 215/45/16 seems to be an odd tire size. what tires are available for this size? first of all, my stock size is 195/60/15 I would like to upgrade to 215/50/16 but I may have problem with that size because I am on coilover. the most widely used 16 inch tire would be 205/50/16 and it is the most suitable because the overall circumference difference is the least when compared to stock. Now I want 215 because I think wider tire width means better for stability and breaking. Am I right?

Hi, Can i ask. 195/50/15" tire is more ex or 195/55/15" ??

Hey guys, For all of you on 18"s spbs, what is the tire width you are using on your ride now? Am stuck on 225/40/18 and according to the tire calculator, its 0.84% off for the speedo. suppose to go to 215/40/18 but not too sure. Any feedback???
  16. Hello Guys, If my stock tyre size is 205/60/R16...can I change to 205/55 or 50/R16 ??? Will it pass veh inspection ??? any damage on the veh itself ??? Pls enlighten....many thanks.
  17. Hi all, my ride is Sunny 1.6 (Tire is BS GR80) 14". Sticker in car state that Front: 2.3/33 Back: 2.1/30 . I'm not too sure how to translate the meaning. I pumped '210' for all 4 tires, is it correct?
  18. hey all, what do you all recommend that comes in above size? prime considerations for me: 1.inexpensive 2.reasonably silent 3.reasonable all-round performance in that order!
  19. Just helped a friend in the evening to bring his car to a workshop to patch up a tire that was kenna hooked by a little finger thickness hook. The workshop guy pulled out the hook and then patched up the tire. My friend later asked me a number of questions like how effective is the patching? Will the tire suffer any long term effects and is there any risk driving a patched tire esp on journeys into Malaysia. Was Kinda lost of answers, so like to seek the opinions of people here. Thanks.

  21. Dear all My car had just hit 60000km after 2.5yrs, so I just changed the 4 tires but the tireshop owner told me it's also advisable to change the rims as the tire wobble when doing the balancing. So when should be a good time or mileage to change the rims? Thanks all for your info.
  22. hi there i have one of my tire mended a few weeks ago... now it leak air again! found out that the leak is from the mended hole~~ SianZ.. they said cant mend liao... should i replace the tire? keep losing 4 PSI in 2 days...
  23. Bill VandeWater, consumer tire products manager for Bridgestone, said tire damage begins when pressure drops 5 pounds per square inch below the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation.
  24. Was happily driving along KJE towards PIE. Then this Mazda Protoge start filtering left. Slowing down a lot as well. Came up right in fornt of me. Then this tire thread came off and started rolling down the expressway. I think the driver knew he suffered tire damage and was trying to get to the road shoulder but it was too late, the thread just came off and was rolling along. Wife screamed! DAMN! Hurt my ears and I screamed at her to shut up! Its not our car that's in trouble. Just moved out of the way of the rolling thread and sounded my horn. Driver waved and knew what happened as he move to the shoulder.
