  1. saw this mod on a featured car in a magazine. what is it? how does it work? anyone here has one in his/her car?
  2. i have been reading up on specs of vtec engines..and they generally produce lesser torque than other cars..hw cum this happens?y?
  3. As most of us know that torque and horsepower are related, which to say by adding factors of time and distance to torque, we will get horsepower. Torque is the measurement of power at stand still. For example, a horse moving carrying 150 pounds over 1 foot in 1 sec, and torque is a horse can carry 150 pounds. The relations of torque and horsepower in our combustion engine today can be represented by this formula: HP=TORQUE * RPM / 5252 So, if these 2 is related, then 1) Why do people claim that more torque give better acceleration? 2) How can it be more torque when more torque results in more horsepower, just like increasing horsepower will increase torque? 3) Some people claim that a bigger cc engine has more torque. Are we saying that a 2.4L 180hp engine has more torque than a 2.0L 200hp engine, when they are relational? Can someone enlighten me?
  4. Hi Guys, It's now time to do somethings to up the mid/low end torque of my Turbo-wildboar liao ...... my options are as follows, which ones are most cost effective???... any side effects and will it be necessary to re-set the ecu??? 1. KNN drop-in air filter 2. de-cat 3. increase size of pipe between cat and end muffler 4. put in straight-thru end muffler... any problem with TP???.... which of the above has no impact on improving mid/low end torque??? in addition, i will add boast gauge and ATF cooler as planned previously.... Many thanks for advice.....
  5. OK.....something that bugs me. Imagine this, if a particular car has its max torque @ 3800rpm, whereas its max BHP @ 6200 rpm. If I'm coming out from a corner to a straight with a gentle uphill, do I hold on to the rev up till the redline and shift or do I shift after 1000 rpm after the max torque ?? What should I do :- 1) I rely on the BHP to pull the car all the way (rev till near redline then shift)? 2) I shift near the max torque rpm ??? (so as to maintain max torque throughout the power band) Any pointers from forum gurus ???? TIA
  6. Hi all, Just got the august issue of torque magazine and they did a comparison between the octavia, elantra and corolla. Very good article and the octavia came up holding it's own pretty well except for the performance aspect.
  7. Vaguely remember torque is more useful indicator than bhp in measuring the power of the car as torque is effective in measuring the pick up. Am I correct or am I miles away from the truth? Also, is torque measured by RPM X BHP? Appreciate comments....
