The spokesman added SMRT engineers have checked that it is safe for operations. - CNA/wk Hmmmmm......Cable Tie Not That Strong Afterall..........
  2. Hi all. Currently on PS3 (225/45R17) and has tracked with them at PG 5 times and about 30 hard laps in total (not counting warm ups/downs). This is over a period of a year and in-between just normal driving for about 15k km since new. Camber is F3.0 and R2.7. The thread depth is still good but some parts are torn and generally very rough. In my recent track day, I can feel they are rather 'oily' just after 3 laps. Back on normal roads they are still as good. So now thinking whether to change them. Hope can get some recommendations on lasting tyres at least like PS3 but with better grip and cheaper. Is it safe to get those 2nd hand ones from Still Racing or AL Tyres? Thanks in advance for your comments.
  3. Recently on the 2nd of October, there was a crash at the Nurburgring track in Germany. Many people speculated on the internet about what had happened. The matter of fact is that no one really knew what happened and there are even rumours that there are some people who are trying to "veil" this incident. But now, there is a video circulating on the internet that shows part of the accident. This video was shot from the back of a car that wasn't involved in the crash. The video is over 15 minutes long but the incident starts at the 09:55 mark. You might want to skip to that point. At around the 10:00 mark, after the car has slowed down, it passes through the accident site. If you look at the video closely (close to the top right corner of the car's rear windscreen), at the 10:32 point, you can see the second crash taking place which supposedly involved the BMW M3 "Ring taxi" hitting the back of the Corvette. Although we didn't get to see the first accident taking place but at least it gives us a clearer picture of what happened during the second one. A long strecth of a fast left bend was just before the accident site and as we can see from the video, many cars scrambled to apply their brakes after seeing other vehicles slowing down. And any cars that were too fast would have little time to brake and avoid a collision from happening. The best question for me to ask is "Why was there road works done on a track day?" link to the accident Photo credit: jalopnik

  5. A Wisconsin man decided to flex his newly-acquired beer muscles by testing his newly-acquired track-ready Mustang on a local street. He lost control, hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee and ricochet into a tree. The 35-year-old man now faces charges after he allegedly downed up to ten beers at a cookout, then took his $50,000 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca for a joyride. Police say he was traveling at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour when he went into a spin. The subsequent crash ripped off the driver's side door, and a passenger suffered a compound fracture in his right arm. The Mustang owner's been charged with one count of first offense operating while intoxicated and causing injury, along with one count of reckless driving and causing injury for good measure. He could get two years in jail if he's convicted.

"It's bumpy, which is uncomfortable in the cockpit and makes the demands on concentration very high, and, on top of all that, it is incredibly hot and humid, even though we're driving at night ....those little subtleties of light are something you really notice at 180mph. Just think of what it's like when you're driving at night on a motorway and the lights are flashing past you. Then multiply it
  7. The Koenigsegg Agera present at the Von Braun Trackday at Anderstorp Raceway, Sweden, finished the day (and the tires) off with a few powerslides. They spent the day testing for new potential in the car. Driving it is Koenigsegg's own test driver. Check the video here and learn more about the Agera as well
  8. anyone know of any, or if any up and coming tracks to be built in singapore?
  9. http://www.todayonline.com/Sports/EDC11052...ke-Hub-deadline 04:47 AM May 28, 2011 SINGAPORE - The country's first permanent motor racing track could be heading for an unnatural death after its embattled developers admitted yesterday they would not be able to get the facility operational by the end of the year. SG Changi are also likely to default on another major milestone: To complete a 2,000-lot car park before the start of the Singapore Airshow 2012, scheduled from Feb 14 to 19, which will be held next to the facility. With prospects bleak for the consortium, some in the motor-racing industry feel even a re-tender is now possible, to ensure the Changi Motor Sports Hub project is fulfilled. Work at the 41-hectare site on the eastern tip of Singapore ground to a halt in January after SG Changi - they pipped two other challengers to win the bid to build and operate the S$380 million project in 2009 - could only pay S$6 million of an agreed advance payment to piling contractors CSC Holdings. They owe CSC Holdings S$8 million, which includes progressive claims for piling work on 1,000 of 6,000 points at the site. SG Changi can try to fulfil their contractual obligations but would require millions more pumped into the project. However, raising funds has been the problem for the consortium. Andrew Ujiie, the company's head of people innovations, admitted that after a four-month delay, the cost to get the 4km FIM Grade 1 and FIA Grade 2-certified track ready by December would be extremely high. Speaking to MediaCorp from the United States, where he is on a business trip, Ujiie said: "I think that is the reality. Although nothing is impossible, to get the track ready by the end of the year is now going to cost us a lot more." CSC, who were contracted to do piling work for a total of S$50 million, are hoping that if the Government in the end calls for a re-tender, they will be given "preferential consideration" if a new consortium takes over. "We are weighing our options," said CSC president and group CEO See Yen Tarn. "Pulling out is one of them, but we are holding out for a better outcome. If a new consortium comes into the picture, we hope they will consider resuming work with us. "Even with a new design, what has been piled into the land need not be yanked out and we will be able help them work things around." In March, MediaCorp reported that a group of interested parties had met SG Changi directors Fuminori Murahashi and Moto Sakuma, with a view to taking a share in the company. After submitting plans to considerably reduce the cost of building the Hub and hoping that the deadline for the project would be extended, the potential investors are moving cautiously. "With the Sports Hub (at Kallang) allowed a delay, they were banking on the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) indicating they were open to extending the deadline for the permanent track as well," said a source close to the negotiations. "Their plan hinges on this because at this stage, it is clear to everyone that the costs are going to be extremely high to meet the Motor Sports Hub objectives if the SSC stick to their guns."
  10. Anyone know the requirement needed to participate in a track day and where? Thanks

  12. Hi all, Hope to get some advice on track day tyres. I am planning to go tracking at PG/Sepang for the first time and not very sure how much my tyres will wear out in a 3-hr session. Currently on 3 month old PS3 so feel a bit heartpain if I have to chugged them after 1 tracking session. So do tyre shops sell those used track tyres (maybe about 60% left) cheaply for those 1 off track sessions and I changed out my tyres for the day? Thanks for any advice. Cheers!
  13. It started when a Nissan R35 GTR owner in New England wanted to make the 1725 kg (3800 lbs) car more track-friendly. So the car was sent to Ohio tuner Switzer Performance who had decided to take on the challenge. Tym Switzer and his team took the Super Silver 2010 GTR and added their own components, which included new intercoolers, intakes and turbochargers and boosted the car's power rating to 800 hp (597 kW) and 948 Nm (700 lb-ft) of torque. Also added for improved performance were an adjustable JRZ suspension system, tighter adjustable sway-bars, a diffuser for the undercarriage and an active wing provided by Aeromotions. To reduce weight Switzer fitted the R35 GTR with AP carbon rotors, a lighter ceramic-coated titanium exhaust system, a dry-carbon deck-lid, and lightweight Bride sports seats - lightening the car by 90 kg (200 lbs). Switzer said the client wanted a car that both he and his wife could drive on public roads and go out to dinner with while still making excellent times on the track. Switzer's P800 upgrading package is now available for everyone via its network of dealers.
  14. A Singapore official has played down concerns the city-state will run out of time to prepare the floodlit street circuit for this year's formula one race. Singapore will host the Youth Olympic Games in the same Marina Bay area until the end of August -- less than a month before the F1 circus arrives in town for round 15 of the 2010 world championship. But Justin Chew, the Singapore Tourism Board's executive director of F1 projects, told the state-owned MediaCorp: "We do have enough time. "Based on the timeline set by the Youth Olympic Games organisers, they will take at least two to three weeks to vacate the circuit completely. "But we have already 'de-conflicted' it and whatever time they need to move out and what we need to put in the area have been worked out," he insisted. The tight schedule means that fundamental structures for the street circuit such as lighting trusses are already being erected. Source: GMM
  15. Are you guys happy? Its finally here in 2012.
  16. Singapore could be the first country to use the GPS or global positioning system to track vehicles on the road for tax purposes. Operation is expected this year or next, after an expected snap election is held. The move may be unpopular among voters with an adverse impact against the government. Over the long-term, if not immediately, it will increase transport costs for Singaporeans. The satellite-tracked electronic system would technically charge drivers using any road any time in Singapore

  18. Pardon my ignorance... Everytime I see this remark in SG Carmart postings, I asked myself, how the hell we can tell whether it's been tracked before? Or should we just attribute it to benefit of doubt? [confused]
