  1. Many people know what a station wagon is. Basically, it is a sedan car with its roof extended towards the rear and the rear boot is usually replaced with a lifting tail door. The station wagon comes in two distinct design; a four door (the most common design that we get to see) and a two door which is also known as a shooting brake. Many automakers give unique names for their station wagon versions. For example, Volkswagen names their station wagons as Variants. Other than that, we have heard of other version names for station wagons such as estate, carryall, touring, sportwagon and etc. But the most common names used are the station wagon, estate and shooting brake. If you are wondering how these 3 names come about, then read on. Back in the early era of the automotive industry, the first station wagons people got to see were the wooden-bodied Ford Model Ts and at that time there were known as
  2. I heard on the PA system on the mrt platform that south bound train got train fault. Anyone heard?
  3. Yahoo news : Shanghainese women change attire on train Photos and videos of Shanghainese women undressing and changing their clothes on the train have surfaced on the Internet. On 22 August, a netizen caused a stir after uploading photos and videos of a girl on Shanghai's Metro train. The video detailed a girl stripping down to her underwear and changing clothes inside the train cabin. Netizens believed that she was either late for work or doing it for a publicity stunt as the clothes she changed into looked like a uniform for cosplaying purposes. [/color] Some have said that such an act is immoral and very unsightly to look at while others disagreed with the public outcry. A Chinese user wrote, "What's the big deal? Society's development should mean more diversity/pluralism. If it's always traditional ideas, we won't keep up with the times/fashion. Does everyone still remember the 80s, where peeping (into) the ladies would result in being sentenced to death? Now that we think about it, wasn't that going too far?" "A Chinese user wrote, "What's the big deal? Society's development should mean more diversity/pluralism. If it's always traditional ideas, we won't keep up with the times/fashion." I like his style ...... , if not the morning train rides is very dull ........
  4. SMRT certainly deserved to be rapped but what about the authorities? When this latest embarrassment was reported, all started coming out and pointed fingers at SMRT, baying for blood. After the first incident, one would expect them to closely monitor SMRT's follow-up action to ensure that such a serious breach of security will not happen again. We are not talking about a neighborhood mama shop being broken into but a heavily-used public transportation system carrying thousands and thousands of folks daily. While the guidelines or recommendations by the PTSC are being implemented progressively, what is the stop-gap measure being done in the mean time? Is it enough/sufficient? Most important question is: IS ANYONE FOLLOWING UP ON THE FOLLOW-UP ACTION BY SMRT? Tonnes and tonnes of questions to be answered after this latest incident. We are again lucky this time that it was graffiti. We may not be so lucky again if it is something else next time. Sick to hear the latest outburst coming out from this woman. We certainly must whack SMRT jialat jialat and take punitive actions against them like heavy fines but the authorities are not totally blameless either. Some how I suspect they will point the finger back at us and utter "Complacency" once again... Really leave a bitter taste after they approve the latest fare hikes citing these companies deserve the additional revenue... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1148092/1/.html LTA won't hesitate to penalise SMRT for security breach: Josephine Teo By Hetty Musfirah | Posted: 20 August 2011 1344 hrs
  5. Title : Another SMRT train vandalised By : Date : 17 August 2011 2139 hrs (SST) URL : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1147572/1/.html SINGAPORE: A northbound train was pulled out of service on Wednesday morning after a staff discovered graffiti on it. Initial investigation point to a breach in the fence at Bishan Depot, where the train was parked. The last time a similar incident took place was in May last year. A security lapse at SMRT's Changi Depot enabled two intruders to spray-paint graffiti on one of the trains. That incident raised questions about security at important facilities here. Commenting on the latest incident, the Land Transport Authority said it is disappointed that SMRT failed to prevent another security breach at its depot. The LTA said the recent review by the Public Transport Security Committee has instituted a whole range of stringent measures to strengthen security at all train depots which SMRT has accepted. It said it takes a very serious view of the matter and will not hesitate to take SMRT to task, if investigations show the company did not comply with the necessary security standards at its depots. Police said they are investigating. SMRT said it has performed a complete check on its entire fleet of trains, and has stepped up security and patrols at its premises. In a statement, the police said it will not tolerate such acts which blatantly disregard the law. Anyone convicted of vandalism could be jailed up to three years, or fined up to S$2,000 and given between three and eight strokes of the cane. The penalty for trespassing into a protected place is a jail term of up to two years, or a S$1,000 fine, or both. -CNA/wk http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1147572/1/.html

  9. Some bros might have taken their last ride... When i heard the last train will run on 30 June, i quickly bought the ticket and took it to JB this afternoon.... i must say the trip and $13 (sin2Jb) and 3Ringgits (JB2sin) were well worth the time. The TPagar station was packed with people, mm and men took their long lens to take pictures everywhere and every corners.... The scenary during the trip, though normal to many, to me it's interesting as the train went pass bushes, industrial estates, HDB, landed properties... schools, under the tunnels, over the bridges... By now, most passengers were there to taste their 'last trip' on this train.... when the train passed road junctions, passersby waved and took picture (making us passengers a bit like VIPs)... The train even stopped at the bukit timah station for about half an hour (not in its usual schedule) to let passengers get down to take pics.... passengers also took pics of visitors at the station who in turn took picture of the train and its passengers............. i jumped off the train and stood on the station platform to take pics also... BTW, i found something could be the only one in the world:- normally if we go from country A to B, we go through the respective immigration/custom checks in the same order/sequence. But when I went from SGP to JB, i first cleared MY check points and then SGP check points, ie reversed order!!
  10. Tell me how you feel. Despite waking up early, leaving home at 8am sharp. Reaches the train station at 8.10am and boarded the train at 815am but reaches raffles at only 910am. Woke up early hoping and wanting to reach office early but end up late. Train also heavy taffic? Heavy Jam?
  11. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_674229.html "i HAVE HAD IT WiTH THESE MUTHERF**KIN SNAKES, ON THIS MUTHERF**KIN TRAIN!!!!" Snakes on a train terrify passengers in Vietnam HANOI - RAILWAY officials have discovered snakes on a train in Vietnam - highly venomous king cobras in bags under a seat. Railroad official Pham Quynh says passengers were terrified when four cloth bags containing the writhing cobras were spotted on Friday. The snakes were alive but had their mouths stitched shut. Mr Quynh says the exact number of snakes was unclear but the bags weighed 45kg. Security staff removed the cobras, which were likely destined for restaurants in Hanoi. Their owner apparently escaped in the chaos. Snake meat is considered a delicacy in Vietnam, but cobras are protected by law. Mr Quynh says the cobras were given to forest rangers who released them into the wild on Saturday after no one claimed them. -- AP

  15. Hi all, Will be driving up KL soon for a short getaway. Was wondering if taking the train in KL is a good idea to get around. I park my car at the hotel, day time take train to visit places to avoid the jams. Anybody has any experience or advice for their trains? Is it as reliable as those in HK, TW, Korea and so on?
  16. A KTM passenger train leaving for Malaysia from the Bukit Timah station was derailed at about 8am this morning (Nov 9). No one was injured. The train was derailed 200m away from the Bukit Timah KTM station on its way to Malaysia. Passengers were reported as merely feeling a 'bump' and no one was injured. The KTM technical staff are on-site and the train is being towed to the Tanjong Pagar station.
  17. If you are not aware do be careful. Last week, I drove into the Malayan rail station at Tangjong Pagar but decided to drive out immediately. By driving around a loop, the attendance charge me $1! This is much more expensive than any other CBD car park where you get a 10 mins grace period. Luckily they will close soon, it is day light robbery. Try not to park there.
  18. French Squad Latest News (Football 365) looks like the end for the french.. guess they will just play the last game and go home just in case anyone asks why I care because there are worse teams out there, the headline is not from me, but credit to the website football365 must be heartbreaking for a french supporter who travels to South Africa to watch the French team and seeing such news and revolt
  19. This is not that "dragon" below but the movie that opens tomorrow. Have caught a sneak preview of the 3D version. Must say this movie will appeal to the child in us. However, I understand the 3D effects is not as much as Avatar. As for Alice in Wonderland, it will goes down well with adult than children. Personally I found this movie better than Avatar For those with kids, now GV is having Cartoon Sunday morning where the ticket is priced at $5.
  20. Ladies, please be careful when taking the MRT, especially the crowded ones during peak hours. Guys, be more alert and protect your girlfriends, wives, from the groping hands of perverts (sex-maniacs). Encountered one this morning @ 8.40am at Bukit Batok MRT station. AND YOU! You know who you are, pretending to be the victim of the morning rush hour! You were very close to being bashed up and still had the cheek to shout at me! KNN! The train was very packed, (World class!?? ) and there was the usual rush when the train doors started to close. This I*d**n guy began to push his way thru and his hand was almost touching my wife
  21. Got stuck in train for 1.5 hours coming to work this morning Any way to request for waiver of fare instead of LTA's right pocket out to left pocket? World Crass Transport indeed! kraccccck pui.
