  1. Any one attend RT training in MAJU camp now ?
  2. No matter what your age, you can't beat the benefits of improving your safety on the road by taking an advanced driver training course. Studies and personal experiences have proven it. I recently had the opportunity to hone my skills and introduce my university-age daughter to new techniques at the Advanced Driver Training program offered by BMW Canada at Downsview Park in Toronto. The courses are offered from June to October in both Toronto and Montreal. Details on locations and dates can be found at www.bmwdrivertraining.ca. At the session we attended, BMW instructors provided training in driving skills, safety techniques, and offered and an understanding of a vehicle's capabilities -- BMW 330i models in this case. You do not need to own a BMW to participate. Class size depends on the program, but never exceeds 20 students. There are several variations of the course, from the basics up to challenging. The half-day Advanced I and full-day Advanced II courses provide a foundation for improving your driving. The instructors covered elements such as seating position, steering technique and vehicle dynamics. Exercises we experienced included emergency braking with and without ABS, and front- and rear-wheel skid control. The courses also dealt with typical driving scenarios encountered during inner-city driving and how to respond to them. Our teachers for our Advanced II course were Pierre Savoy and Jason Carvalho. The energetic and expressive Savoy has been a professional driver since 1983 and chief instructor with BMW Driver Training since the program's Canadian launch in 2001. His most well known students include racers Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Carpentier. The personable Carvalho has raced in Formula 1600, Formula 2000 and Formula Atlantic, and has worked as a stuntman in movies and instructional CD-ROMs. He has been an instructor with BMW since 2003. The techniques and manoeuvres we learned had an immediate impact on our driving attitude and abilities in the weeks following the course. They can even get you out of trouble on the drive home, as happened to me after completing BMW's program. If you or your family members drive vehicles that aren't equipped with advanced safety technology, or even ABS brakes, I now see that you can help to overcome those shortcomings by getting every driver in your family trained in an advanced driving course. After witnessing the improvement in my daughter's skills from the course, I'm planning to sign up my son next. You can read about her personal experience with the program in the sidebar story. Compared to advanced options on vehicles, these courses are cheap. The half-day Advanced I program, where the minimum age is 16 and a G2 licence is needed, costs $290, not including taxes. The full-day Advanced II course, with a minimum age of 18 and the requirement of a G licence, is $480. 'Skidding out was a little scary' By Katie Roebuck Have you ever been driving down the road, minding your own business, wondering what was going through the mind of the person who just cut you off? Or have you been pulling into an intersection, only to be almost hit by other drivers who wouldn't wait their turn or were yakking on a cell phone? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Maybe it has happened to you, or maybe you are one of those people who make the rest of us wonder every day how you keep your driver's license. Well, here is a saving grace for everyone on the road -- the good, the bad and the clueless. Advanced Driver training or skid school could be the thing you need to prevent an accident and improve your skills on the road. I had the opportunity to attend a BMW Advanced Driver Training course in Toronto, and did it ever make a difference for me. It was a lot of fun too. How often do you get to abuse a car that costs more than your tuition? The day began with a theory class, going over what causes skids, and describing different kinds of skids. I didn't even know there were different kinds. Then we got to the fun part -- the driving. We learned how to induce and correct different skids, and how to avoid objects. Skidding out was a little scary at first because it's very unnatural to purposely spin out a car, but you get used to it fairly quickly. The instructors were very supportive and not intimidating, which was good, from the perspective of a young female driver. The instructors demonstrated each exercise with you in the car first, let you drive the course, and afterwards discussed what you had learned, before moving on the next exercise. I feel that certain elements of advanced driver training should be included in the normal driver training programs most students take, such as avoidance manoeuvres and skid correction. But since that likely won't be happening any time soon, advanced driver training is an excellent option. The full-day BMW program came with a $480 price tag, but there are less expensive versions that can be found in your area that are either run by a training company or a car manufacturer. A list of courses can be found at www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/advanced.htm. The only problem I saw with this course was that some of the exercises were tailored specifically for a car like a BMW with its special electronic systems such as dynamic stability control. At times, it also felt like a sales pitch for the car's features. But you can't get over the benefits. My skills and reaction time improved immediately (which I found out a few days later when a driver entered an intersection without looking

  8. Hey folks! I just had a bad experience in Trxx Fitnxxx today. Few days ago, I received a call that I am given 2 weeks free for the usage of its gym facilities. So, I went today and thought I will just take the free 2 weeks mebership and be gone in 10-15mins. Never did I realise that I was stuck there for more than an hour, with a few chaps taking their turn persuading me to sign up either the yoga package or the personal trainer package. My Body Fat Measurement by their machine, received a score of 79 and I was deemed very fit. Just that I fall short of a kg. Yet, they were trying to convince me to sign up. When I politely declined their offer, they attempted again and again, asking me questions why I was not interested. Towards the end, I have to firmly tell the personal trainer off that he could not hard-sell his package to me, even when I have told him that I was not interested. He left after that and the supervisor came to me. I gave him a short piece of my mind that he has wasted my one hour when I actually just came to get the 14 days free pass and walked out of their counter. I was super pissed.

  11. Recently attended a Ralliart Driver's Training organised by the dealership and I'll have to say it is the best $100 modification I've spent on this car. To all the 18 year olds with P plates as well as the others. Please do not post a thread asking where you can get the largest turbo or the best performance mod per buck. All the performance modifications will be useless on the track because it requires, skill and not horsepower. Please I urge all the 2F2F wannabes talking about 99 pratas or OG to go to the track and do 2 laps at least. The track experience will speak for itself because when your car spin out, I really hope you are taking your car for a ride and not your car taking you for a ride. On the track we had 2 cars that spung out with 1 who overtook me as it was modified, quicker and more aggressive but spung out on Shell corner resulting in me E-braking to avoid ramming him from the side. Funny thing was that the car looks promising during the corner till it broke rear traction and spung out. Caught me by surprise by definitely caught the driver even more because he did not attempt to counter steer. Note: This guy is a regular at the track. Those who think its easy, please please please modify yourself first before talking about power upgrades. After the track experience, I find myself taking much more caution on the road in knowing the consequences of malhandling the car. We had the Slalom course and Apex practice. I did 3 laps in tarmac mode and last in Gravel mode. Clipped 2 cones with gravel mode due to tail happy distribution set up. [/img]
  12. Since Jun 2005, Performance Motors Ltd (PML) have opened their BMW Advanced Driver Training (ADT) to non-BMW owners. As you might be aware, the course cost $800 for non-BMW owners. And BMW owners who bought their car from PML pay only $500 (Ya I'm thinking the same thing too, the rich getting richer right) Oh well. You might be asking, why do I want to pay $800 for this course ? 1. You can wreck the car because it's not yours. Plus you get to drive in a proper race circuit with safety barriers and all. (No worries about hidding kerbs... in your own car) 2. You can progress up the drivers training ladder systematically and the training is recognised internationally. Advanced -> Intensive -> Perfection. 3. Good Car-Driver-Instructor ratio. Trainers are certified by BMW Motorsport Centre in Munich. 3 drivers per car. and 2 instructors per 3 cars. You listen to instructors thru walki-talkies. Connected to the car's sound system. 4. Great Hospitality and arrangement. 1 week before the training you'll received the gift/training pack which is couriered to your doorstep. Package include, a clima-cool type of polo T, a cap and training notes. Great Food at corporate hospitality centre in Pasir Gudang. Breakfast, Lunch and Teabreak all included. (Plus point : Food is certified HALAL) Isotonic drinks at every exercise station. Comfortable 30 seater coach transfer from Raffles marina to PG. Covered carpark at Raffles Marina provided. 5. You get to drive a BMW 330i, 3 litre engine with 258 bhp capable of acheiving 0-100 in just 6.6 sec, rear wheel driven. Specially prepared for training, with driving aids and ABS overiding switch. 6. And lastly, You'll LEARN a lot. ADT aims to make you to a safer driver by helping you to develop a balance of attitudes and skills to respond effectively in critical emergency situations , teach you to appreciate and understand the limits of technology and driving skill, allowing you to assess and overcome potential hazards . And of course, it's a whole lot of fun! Many of us ask, how fast can this car or that car get from 0 - 100km/h. Not MANY will ever care to ask what we can do to stop the car from 100 - 0 ?? (well I only remembered Ultravan emphasising on it) This is the important point I learned from this training. It's all about safety. And by the way, all the manouvre was executed not more than 70km/h. So that's should give you an idea that the focus of this training is all about. Some of the manouvres in the course include : Understeering, Oversteering and how to overcome them. Emergency Lane Change, Emergency lane change in a Bend. Brake Swerve and Stabalising the car. The exercises are held at different parts of the circuit. Like the understeer and oversteer are conducted in a proper skid pan. Instructors guide drivers from outside the car, they talk you thru the steps throught their walki-talkies and you hear them through the in-car aux input sound system. To end it all, a friendly competition of time slalom on the front straight of the Pasir Gudang track. I managed to time my personal best of 26.66 secs. Unfortunately I got penalty point for my 1st attempt as I missed the designated stopping area by 2 feet. But I guess my Formula Ford experience helps. It tought me that the important thing is to be smooth in steering, transmission, throttle and braking. It's won't help if you're scrappy trying to be fast. So what's next ?. Intensive Driver Training...then who know's Perfection Training in Nuburgring in Germany. But one thing for sure is that it beats any modification on my car. Driver Modification last a lifetime. How long does a modification on the car last ? More pictures and Videos.... at http://www.hermizan.com/sg/photos In case you wish you sign up for Advance Driving Training sign up at at www.pml.com.sg
  13. Anyone went to kallang to view the course ? Quite a good show. Chief Instructor (Leslie "chung" ?) executed a 180 turn with hand brake and gun off all very smoothly. Lots of cars signed up for the course. WRX STI, WRX, STI (suspect its TS 1.6), Nissan March, BMW 520i, MX5 (convertible), 2 x Toyota Corrola (1 new, 1 old), Nissan Sunny, 2 x Forrestor (1 with loud BOV ), Vivio, 3 x civic (2 old 1 new) The race was flaged off by a civic which made a right turn and gunned down the long straight but unfortunately a little too fast and serious understeer was a result which caused the car to mount kerb and fly into the tree. Pretty badly damaged. 2nd accident was a black STI driven by an caucasian with sg girlfriend as co driver. He too took the corner too fast and almost crashed into the exact spot of the civic. The result was a heavily damaged rim and broken side skirt but other then that should be fine. Both cars got towed away as a result. Feel heart pain to see these cars crash. Other then that the main highlight was the nissan sunny driver who loves to handbrake. Quite a skillful driver considering he picked up the technique fast. Unfortunately this driver wasn't aware of the safety of bystanders when he exit the track and continued do his stunt. I just thought it was inconsiderate. Nissan march amongst all cars clocked 1 of the fastest timing considering the car and engine size. It definitely ain't the car but a result of skill. Apparently the driver suffered an overturn to learn his lessons well. Pretty spectacular I must say.
