  4. from Straits times interactive: http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/singapore...,260013,00.html? Tighter rules for vehicle transfer Person handling transfer must produce IC or passport, as well as letters from buyer and seller authorising him to make switch THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has tightened the transfer procedures for vehicles in the wake of a recent spate of fraudulent transfers, but observers have little confidence that it will prevent future scams. PHOTO: CHEW SENG KIM Now, a person handing in a transfer application must produce his identity card or passport, the LTA said in a letter to motor traders on Friday. The person must also produce letters from both the buyer and seller authorising him to do the transfer for them. These papers are in addition to the multitude of original documents he must produce. They include the vehicle log card, the insurance certificate of the new owner, the identity cards of the buyer and seller, a valid vehicle inspection certificate if vehicle inspection is required prior to the renewal of road tax, the company registration certificate if the vehicle is or will be registered under a company's name, and, in the case of heavy vehicles, a parking certificate. Details on the steps for transferring ownership can be found at www.onemotoring.com.sg under the Buy & Sell a Used Vehicle link. The changes failed to impress the industry. Said a lawyer familiar with the motor trade: 'If the scam perpetrator can come up with forged documents, what's to prevent him from forging another two letters?' Countered an LTA director: 'The alternative is to make it mandatory for both buyer and seller to turn up in person. 'But I think the reason why people leave many transactions to a third party is because they are ignorant or they find it more convenient.' Meanwhile, another two car owners have informed the LTA that their vehicles were transferred even though they did not sell them. 'We have made a police report and the matter is now under police investigation,' an LTA spokesman said. Last week, an eight-month-old Mercedes-Benz was reportedly transferred without the owner's knowledge. The Straits Times understands that the Attorney-General's Chambers is studying whether to declare such unauthorised or fraudulent transfers null and void.

  8. Hi there Just wanna share my experience I had today. I changed my own transfer case, differential case and transmission oils today. I used Caltex Gear Oil EP at S$17/4L bottle. It's SAE 80W145, GL5 rating. Normal gear boxers nowadays asks to be using at least a 90 oil. I used a total of 7.7L in all and I took 5hrs,with my back nearly breaking. I also used the cxxxxxe synthetic blend I bought some time back in Giant. On the first drive today aftetr the change, it's just super smooth cos it's new oil. Gotto minitor how the oil breaks down from time to time. But my advice to you is to let the garage earn the service charge unless you wanna get the satisfaction of a sore back and standing back to relive what you have done! The gear oil is available in Jurong Port Road Industral estate beside the Caltax Station. Regards Lester
