  3. China passport holders to get automated clearance at immigration ... So, looks like automated will not be faster anymore from 16 Nov onwards .... and with this increase in numbers, would this cause inconvenience to us, Singaporeans? Only time will tell ... http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/china-passport-holders-get-automated-clearance-immigration SINGAPORE — From Nov 16, eligible Chinese citizens will be able to use the enhanced immigration automated clearance system (eIACs) service at Singapore’s checkpoints, announced the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) today (Nov 6). China passport holders above the age of six are eligible to enrol for the automated service. They must also hold a valid five-year (or longer) Multiple Journey Visa issued by Singapore and have visited Singapore at least three times in the preceding 12 months, Enrolment is on a voluntary service and is free of charge. Interested applicants should bring their passport (with remaining validity of at least six months), one recent colour passport-size photograph and other relevant documents to the enrolment centres located at Changi Airport, Woodlands Checkpoint, Tuas Checkpoint and the ICA Building to apply for this service. Those aged between six and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and present documentary proof of relationship. The ICA said the move will provide greater travel convenience for Chinese visitors and facilitate trade, business and tourism links between Singapore and China. Currently the service is also available to Australian and Hong Kong citizens, as well as Malaysian citizens who are assessed to be eligible under the Frequent Traveller Programme at the time of application.
  4. Was thinking of visiting NK previously with the wife, guess this is another example of how touchy the regime is. Guess this guy is screwed big time http://edition.cnn.com/2016/03/16/asia/north-korea-warmbier-sentenced/index.html (CNN)North Korea has sentenced American student Otto Frederick Warmbier to 15 years hard labor for crimes against the state, a North Korean official confirmed to CNN Wednesday. Warmbier had traveled to Pyongyang on a trip organized by Young Pioneer Tours, a China-based travel company. He was arrested on January 2, 2016, as he was about to board a plane to leave the country. Warmbier is escorted at the North Korean Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. In an emotional press conference last month, the 21-year-old student at the University of Virginia admitted to attempting to steal a banner with a political slogan from his hotel in the North Korean capital. It is not known whether Warmbier made the admission under duress. Appearing to read from a statement, he said: "I committed the crime of taking down a political slogan from the staff holding area of the Yanggakdo International Hotel." "I never, never should have allowed myself to be lured by the United States administration to commit a crime in this country," he said tearfully, as he begged for forgiveness. "I wish that the United States administration never manipulate people like myself in the future to commit crimes against foreign countries. I entirely beg you, the people and government of the DPRK, for your forgiveness. Please! I made the worst mistake of my life!" Warmbier tearfully confessed to "hostile acts" against the DPRK The North Korean government alleges Warmbier was encouraged to commit the "hostile act" by a purported member of an Ohio church, a secretive university organization and even the CIA. The tour company he traveled with said on its website it is aware of his sentencing and that it should "be viewed in similar context of previous cases of Americans being sentenced in the DPRK." Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller are the most recentAmerican detainees who have been released by North Korea. Both were accused of perpetrating "hostile acts" against North Korea; Miller spent less than a year in custody after being sentenced to six years hard labor, and Bae, facing a 15-year sentence, was held for nearly two years. The pair secured their freedom in late 2014. Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson told The New York Times he met with two North Korean diplomats on Tuesday to lobby for Warmbier's release. Richardson is a veteran diplomat and a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

  7. A friend sent this to me, knowing I am YOLO at heart, sounds really good actually, if I was not doing anything for the month of Jan 2016, I will surely try. 8. I got this video footage from a relative who went to China on a tour recently. This was a visit to the Jiu Zhai Gou national park. China has 1.3bn people and their internal tourism will be enough to generate so much economic activity. See 1:17 for the crowds! The waterfall was pretty neat. Not the majestic type, but because it wasn't too big, you could go near to it. In Part 3, they took a coach to another part of the park and had to go uphill. They came to a place called Fairy Lake. Happy viewing!
  9. Driving down from Kota Bharu to Cameron. Will route 66 or route 8 be a better option? Route 8 seems to be a more major road that is better maintained, while route 66 (d29) seems like the more scenic road?
  10. Photoshop Power!! It was a seemingly harmless request. Like so many tourists before him, Sid Frisjes took a photo near the Eiffel Tower. His attempt to place his finger atop the iconic structure fell short but he posted the photo to Instagram anyway. For reasons unknown he put forth a request to the Internet’s ultimate pranksters—4chan—asking for their help. The anonymous collective gladly obliged, and Internet artists the world over have been getting in on the action ever since. There’s a huge archive of the doctored responses on a Facebook page called mott.pe and a number of sites that have already picked up some of the best. As with so many Internet jokes, the replies get more abstract and bizarre the longer it continues, and ‘Eiffel Tower finger guy’ is no exception. Below you will find 40 images that made me chuckle. 12. Travel Revolution 2015 – The Event has been postponed to 3 – 5 April 2015 in light of the 1-week mourning period declared by the Prime Minister for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, founding father of modern Singapore. Guess many dignitaries will be choping hotel in city region too
  13. Saw this article Mar 16 http://travel.asiaone.com/article/news/what-some-sporeans-do-when-travelling-overseas By Chai Hung Yin The New Paper | Mon, Mar 16 2015 Chinese tourists, who have been making headlines for poor behaviour abroad, are not the only badly behaved travellers. Singaporeans sometimes don't fare much better. Here are some anecdotes from Singaporeans serving Singaporeans travellers. COMPLAINT KING (READ: DEMANDING AND FUSSY) Singaporeans are among those who are the hardest to please when it comes to food, says Mr John Tan, 50, a tour leader, and tour guide. "They even expect the overseas chef to whip up local dishes like fried beehoon," says Mr Tan. Singaporeans also demand cheap stuff but then complain about the poor quality, he adds. "They do not understand that it is 'yi fen qian, yi fen huo' (the quality of the product depends on the price)." BADLY BEHAVED KIDS A child, aged five, refused to have his seat belt fastened and his parents did nothing on a flight from Jakarta. An air steward who wanted to be known only as Jude recalls: "The child wasn't sick, just naughty. Yet the parents still accommodated the kid's antics." Just before the flight landed, the father stood up with the child in his arms to pacify him. Jude says: "It was very dangerous. I shouted at the top of my voice for him to sit down. He had a shock and thankfully sat down (with the kid)." AIRPLANE FRACAS A group of Singaporeans on a tour to an East Asian country chatted loudly on a red-eye flight. It prompted a passenger trying to get some shut-eye to throw water on the group. The water fell on a teenager and escalated into a fracas when the girl's father stood up and grabbed the neck of the passenger, says tour guide Simon Lim. When the plane landed, the airport police were waiting for them. The tour group was held up while Mr Lim tried to mediate between the feuding parties. HELLO RABID KITTY FANS In June 2013, a Singaporean couple wrecked a Hello Kitty-themed one-room apartment in Taipei when they were there for a holiday. They even refused to return the apartment keys and returned days later to steal snacks, a limited edition Hello Kitty hair dryer and toys. The owner of the property estimated that the damage caused by the couple was about NT$30,000 (S$1,315). WHY TIP? A woman in her 50s told freelance tour leader Vincent Ng at the start of a tour in Egypt: "Make sure your service is really good. Otherwise I'll deduct $2 a day (from his tips)." Mr Ng, 50, ended up serving her hand and foot, going as far as holding the woman's hands when she was walking across a bridge or riding a horse. She was pleased at first, but changed her tack when it came to their last meal. She grumbled about "eating in a Chinese restaurant in Egypt". Mr Ng eventually forked out US$60 (S$85) of his own money on room service for her. Yet she still wasn't happy when he collected service fees from the tour group, and relented only when others chided her for not wanting to pay. RELUCTANT BAG STOWER A plane nearly turned back after a woman in her mid 30s refused to stow her cabin luggage: Not in the overhead compartment, nor underneath the seat in front of her. Says Jude, who works for a no-frills airline "She was five seconds away from being off-loaded." She finally gave in after much cajoling from the crew. When they arrived at their destination, she went up to Jude's colleagues and threatened: "Don't you know who I am? I'm the Complaint Queen." How ironic.. Comments
  14. I bought an annual travel insurance with ACE Insurance. During one of my trip. Beijing Airport was affected by Heavy Storm. I was at 6pm waiting for my 8pm flt. Board the plane at 9pm and sat in the plane for 3 hrs. At 12am we were told Airport is closed and all Flt cancelled. Please go and collect your luggage and a cancellation letter. No other arrangement. Airport staff just tell you to get out of the airport. Bye Bye I tried to make a claim for subway ticket and Hotel stay but was rejected. It was just a small claim ACE asked for all kind of proof and documentation. How and Where to get a letter from the weather man? How and Where to get a letter from the Chinese to state their reason for closing the airport. Be careful if you guys planning to buy any travel insurance with ACE.
  15. We will be going to Macau for a short 2D/1N stay, from Hong Kong. Staying at the Holiday Inn at Cotai. I understand Macau is a small place. I am not into casinos. Can recommend the 'must-sees' during the time that we are there? Thanks.

  19. Hi All, My wife and I are thinking of going to hokkaido for a week with my 8th month kid. With the fukushima situation still not solved, I hope to gather some opinions from the wider crowd. Is this trip advisable? Thank you, F
  20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrO3TfJc9Qw Monday blues are almost over, so.. Shall we do it? For Singapore... Instead of 6.9M of FT/Ws, isn't it better to have 6.9M of Singaporeans? Or at least, more than 75% Singaporeans so we don't feel out of place in our own birth place?
  21. When you go for a trip, there might be place you regret visiting because maybe it is a waste of time or not to your expectation.. or do you have any place that you won't ever visit? Recently i went to Penang and find that the Toy Museum is disappointing.. Drove about 30-45 minutes to the museum, i expected to see those classic toys.
  22. As a kid, had you ever watched the movie 'Back to the Future'? Well, I had, which is why I am familiar with such a thing as a time travel machine (Delorean, if you remember), well, fictionally, of course. Yes, as they say, there's no way to turn back time no matter what you do. Wait, is that really true, if at all? Judging from recent happenings, that may be wrong. As a matter of fact, the Chinese may have actually found a way to go back through time. Just recently, a tunnel situated at northern Guizhou area - at the Zunyi's Honghuagang District, to be more exact - was found to have some kind of strange phenomenon. In total, the tunnel measures over 400 metres in length and when you get out at the other end, you'll see that your mobile phone clock has been set backwards by an hour. No, this is neither a lie nor a prank. To confirm this, a news reporter even decided to try out the tunnel himself. The result was that in eight out of 10 times, the reporter's cell phone clock was set aback by a whole hour. Now, don't worry too much. Should you decide to try and pass the 'time tunnel' - as the locals have been calling it for some time now, the clock on your mobile phone will show the normal time again if you have reached at least a kilometre away from that particular car tunnel. Unfortunately, for the time being, there has yet to be a definite explanation why such a phenomenon can take place, leaving most of us clueless of what actually lies underneath the tunnel or, perhaps, around it. Well, I'm wondering, if it has the ability to screw up the mobile phone clock, I think there's no guarantee it can't screw up the car's computer, too, especially if it's an electric car which, as its name implies, relies heavily on electrical components. So, would you like to try time traveling in this tunnel in China? As for me, you ask? Well, I'm out of words
