  1. anyone took those 1 days trips offered thru those coupon/deal sites ? price seems reasonable but my only issue is food - most of them bundle in a seafood lunch/dinner at the golden prawn eatery - but i dun take seafood and from the pics of the eatery, there are no other eateries beside or around it for other choices. or anyone come across a trip that does not bundle in the meals but drop you somewhere for your own meals ?
  2. hi guys. i'm going to europe for my honeymoon this december. Going to finland sweden etc to see northen lights. all booked liaoz. no issue. Was planning to spend an additional 3-6 days in amsterdam. any recommendations on what to see , what to do there? thanks in advance
  3. Finally, I will be going to the Alps. *cheering in background* On 20 sept, I will be making a road trip down to the Alps. Unfortunately, I have limited time, just 5 days. Very rush, & 2 of these days are 1/2 days. I will start the trip in Frankfurt, at Noon, by picking up my friend, we will drive down south to Lake Constance (Bodensee), a lake the size of Singapore bordering Germany & Switzerland. All pictures plug from the net, but I will post actual travel picture after the trip S
  4. Although Melaka is just 200 over km away from Singapore. A day or two driving there to chill out, especially for food, is a hobby for many road tripper here. So I start this thread "again" to share, and will also want to gather some othe good recommendations bros here been before. At least we will have alternatives next time. I always visit this shop 天合成 ( Tian Hup Seng) to buy their Kuih Wangi and their white coffee. The folks love it. Recommeded. The most famous Capitol Satay Celup in Melaka. I will skip this the next visit. Not the standard like before anymore. Over rated, bad service, long Queue and sauce bad taste. Not recommended! One of my favorite restaurant in Melaka, the Porridge house.... Highly recommended.[attachment=68136:IMG_2036.jpg] 88cendol at Jonker, no pointcoming here again, the durian cendol is not like before anymore. Skip! The Hokkien Bah Kut Teh at Melaka Raya 2. Bros who always patronized Teochew BKT or elsewhere, try this BKT, the soft bone really best and the claypot live of pork leg is fantastic. But I think a little expensive. Recommended. And finally went for the last meal in Melaka before heading home. The Chinese Dim Sum buffet in Renaissance Hotel . Lot's of varities, eat till we feel like vomiting. This place is for quantity not quality. Not recommended.
  5. Hi, I drive to Malaysia once a year. Is there a per trip car breakdown insurance such that it'll include towing back to Singapore in case of breakdown and also roadside assistance like tyre puncture and flat battery ? One trip per year doesn't justify for the AAS membership. TIA !
  6. Hi all. Was thinking of driving up to Penang later this month. Just curious, what are the good hotels over there? And besides the yummy food, what are the attractions that Penang has to offer. Thanks !

  13. Recently, I found myself midway through life's journey. Wanting to clear my head, I left this forum and went for a walk. Without realizing, I found myself at Bedok Resevoir and the sun was quickly setting behind the trees. Since I had been deep in thought when I entered the place, I found myself not knowing how to get out. To make matters worse, I got chased by a mad dog, a feral cat and an angry monkey. After some desperate running, I was rescued by this Ah Pek who chased the animals away. He even offered to guide me out. On our way out, we passed by what seems to be school orientation games (maybe for the poly nearby?). I guess the theme was meant to be hell, since they had a huge banner that said "Abandon hope all ye who enter here". Anyway, the first group of people we passed were running about frantically touching and counting all the lamp posts in the vicinity. Apparently the winner of this game has to count the most posts. Me and Ah Pek quickened our steps to avoid this group as in their enthusiasm, one of them upset a beehive. Some distance down the path, we saw a group of people queueing up to get their heads dunked into a pool of mud by 2 burly guys. Feeling curious, I asked one of the burly guys the meaning behind this ritual and he replied the people being dunked had nothing but filth on their minds. Not wanting to get my expensive slippers muddy, I decided to move on. To be continued?
  14. Hi MO, My wife n I will be making a FnE trip to Taipei Taiwan. We will be flying there by Jetstar and staying at Wonstar hotel in March this year. I need some advise from you. 1) I see that there is no train service from Taoyuan airport to Ximending where our hotel is. What is the best and cheapest way to travel from airport to city??? I see the cab fare from airport to hotel is NT$1300-1400 ........I am only a peasant, cant afford that kind of cab fare. 2) I saw on the map, Taoyuan High Speed Rail is only a distance away from Taoyuan airport. Can we take a cab/bus from airport to the railway station? From the Taipei main railway station, we can take the MRT to Ximending station. 3) How is the weather in Taiwan in March? Cold and rainy??? Or cool and sunny??? I hope its not their rainy season. 4) Our this trip, we will stay in Taipei only and will not visit other cities(been there, done that during the group tour last time). I hope you can advise us on the daytime itenery. Day 1 : SG -> Taoyuan -> Ximending -> Walk ard Ximending Day 2 : Daytime visit Danshui and Danshui old street. Nite time visit Shilin nite market Day 3 : Daytime visit Wufenpu and Taipei 101. Nite time visit Tung Hwa nite market Day 4 : Daytime and nite time Ximending..................?????????? Day 5 : Ximending -> Taoyuan -> SG We are not interested in those museum or memorial hall, we have been to these places during our last group tour. Any other shopping/eating places to visit???? 5) What is the must eat stuff in Taipei??? 6) Which is the most popular nite club/disco/pub there to visit??? 7) Which is the most popular pineapple tart in Taiwan. The last time we went to this shop which the tour guide brought us and its tasty!!! Can u tell from the pics where this shop is??? Thks, Adrian
  15. OK, I gave up trying to post my post trip reviews here in the past because VirtualTourist (VT) is a better place and in a way, this is a discussion forum instead of picture posting forum. I don't want to clog up MCF sapping bandwidth. Here are my travel pages. Mainly Malaysia. Port Dickson http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/138f38/ Recommendations for accomodations are there as to some sights like Pantai Biru and Kota Lukut in the Off The Beaten Path tip. Kuala Rompin http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/138f7d/ If you think Cherating is too far and Desaru is too near, KR is just nice. Cherating http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/13c233/ Nice if you want to go further. Avoid monsoon season. Melaka http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/138f11/ If JB's crime gives you the creeps, this place will set you mind a little at ease. Still be careful. An MCFer lost his boss' SUV here in a shopping mall carpark. Kukup http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/138b32/ Nothing much here but the Southern-most point of mainland Asia is worth the visit. Kukup island too if you like to see this huge mangrove island. Kota Tinggi and the Greater Desaru Area http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/138b41/ Closest place you can go under 2hrs. Ver few good quality accomodations. Pulai Desaru Beach gets booked pretty fast on long weekends. Desaru Golden Beach is crappy but the restaurant food is better. Terengannu http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/97dde/6be/ Under here you will find the rest of the attractions and how to get there. Driving in Phuket (Northeast of the island and to Laem Promthep) http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/89514/#TL Half drive and to Ban Khao Lak then guided tour to Khao Sok National Park http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/915f4/#TL http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/915f6/#TL

  18. Hello, Any of you ever self-drive in Korea before? I plan to do one in Mar-Apr 2012, start from Seoul, then to Busan, then fly to Jeju Island. I understand we need an International Driving License to do that. Also, traffic within Seoul can be bad, but then I will most probably leave the city upon collecting the car. Thoughts, opinions?

  23. Hi all, Back in Sep 2009, AA Singapore organised a 23 days driving trip into Li Jiang, Yunan. I'm starting this thread to guage the interest level from like minded drivers here, looking to explore the possibility of driving our car into Yunan, China.. We will go slightly further than AAS...We will head into Kunming, to Li Jiang and into Shangri La.. Lijiang : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijiang,_Yunnan Shangri La : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhongdian You may ask, why Shangri La ? haha.. simply becos i been to both Li Jiang and Shangri La twice - i am familiar enough to bring fellow participants to the various place of interests.. How many days do we need ? and how much is the cost ? It probably going to take 3 weeks.. AAS took 23 days - we could skipped some of the places in Bangkok, Laos.. and the cost ? For the trip by AAS in 2009, each AA member has to pay $4,488 and there is a registration fee per car of $1,208... surely we dont need that much if we to plan the trip ourself.. I know in Li Jiang and Shangri La - lodging cost is only between S$20 to $30 for a decent, clean enough room.. as such, i dont think each person will have to come out with $4k plus for the trip.. . I know there will be alot of hurdles/problems/issues infront of us for planning such a trip. However, like AAS's slogan then -its a "Drive of a Lifetime!". if we could gather sufficient interests, we could make this driving trip a reality.. Below is the itinerary of AAS Drive of a Lifetime! Auto venture to China in 2009 There is a blog that document the trip : http://journeyofgreatdiscovery.wordpress.com/ Happy reading --------------------- Drive of a Lifetime! Auto-Venture
  24. Came back last Sunday. To share some photos.
  25. i will hit my next servicing interval within next week, but my friends and i are going on a roadtrip to KL next weekend previously i've bought 5w30 engine oil for my next servicing, have always been using w40 and heard that w30 will offer less protection for my engine so now i'm wondering, my bf will be doing most of the driving and he usually does speeds of around 200km/h the 5w30 engine oil will not offer as much protection as my 5w40 currently but if i don't change my oil, i'll be adding another 2k km soon which will make 1200km since my last servicing should i send the car for servicing first? or should i just do it after the roadtrip? which is safer? i've read online that people are track racing using w20 oil even, so i'm not sure if its bad for my engine or not i'm driving an 06 integra with around 100k done, always been using w40 oil
