  1. 28 casualties is quite serious... SINGAPORE - The driver of a private bus was trapped in his vehicle after it collided with a tipper truck on the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) on Tuesday evening. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which received a call about the incident at 6.17pm, freed the man using hydraulic rescue tools. There were a total of 28 casualties, but no fatalities. Thirteen people were sent to the Singapore General Hospital, nine to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and six to Changi General Hospital.
  2. Was traveling at NSHW today from Malacca and encounter this close shave. Some of the debris hit my car number plate and caused some chip on it. Was thanking my lucky stars that things did not turn out worse than it is. Debris could have flew higher and hit my car/windscreen, the truck could have served into my lane or even worse, flip. Also thankful that the car behind me wasn't that close (but I usually keep a constant lookout to make sure I am not blocking anyone) so when I braked, it had time to react. Didn't jam brake as I doubt the car behind could react as his view of the situation was likely blocked.
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh67v56iqQALast year Mercedes-Benz showed off a futuristic truck concept fitted with an autonomous system dubbed the Highway Pilot that enabled it to drive itself along stretches of highway, safely and efficiently. And this year the automaker showed an updated version of the concept, one that more closely resembled a production truck, and demonstrated its self-driving capabilities on some Nevada roads. Now Mercedes is showing a production-ready truck equipped with the Highway Pilot, both to the media and German government officials. The truck is one of Mercedes’ Actros models, and it’s the first production-ready truck to drive autonomously on a highway. The special drive took place this week on a stretch of German Autobahn between Denkendorf and Stuttgart Airport. Behind the wheel was Wolfgang Bernhard, Daimler’s head of trucks and buses, and in the passenger seat was Winfried Kretschmann, the Prime Minister of the German state Baden-Württemberg. Right now the truck is only allowed to travel autonomously in a test phase but according to Mercedes the technology is ready for production. For its initial test, Bernhard drove the truck from a service station out onto the Autobahn. As soon as the truck entered the flowing traffic in the right-hand lane, its Highway Pilot switched on and was able to take over full vehicle operation. During the test, the truck meticulously kept to its lane and maintained the optimum distance to the vehicle in front of it. When the truck finally reached the exit for Stuttgart Airport, it asked Bernhard to take control. The test was then repeated in the opposite direction. Along the way there were road works to deal with. At this point, the truck in advance asked Bernhard to take control. Once the truck cleared the road works, however, Bernhard was able to reengage the Highway Pilot system. Crucially, if there was no reaction from Bernhard, the truck would bring itself to a standstill independently and safely, Mercedes says. Making this all possible are complex computer processing and multi-sensor fusiontechnology. The sensors include radar and stereo camera monitoring systems capable of reading the road up to 820 feet ahead. As for when we might see something like the Highway Pilot system available in showrooms is still up in the air. The current hurdle is a familiar one: legislation. Mercedes says it is maintaining dialogue with all possible stakeholders in autonomous vehicles, from government officials to business owners, and suggests that some form of fully autonomous driving may be available by 2020.
  4. Anybody Owns/Bought a 2015 Navara Np300 pickup truck? As titled, would like to check if you guys manage to buy a season parking on normal open space carparks! Thanks!
  5. This afternoon, 23 July 2015 @ 1250 hrs, was on my way back to office in Jurong Island. At the junction of Sakra Road and Jurong Island Highway, a tipper truck suddenly turned when I entered the junction. Luckily I was able to brake on time. To think I nearly died. My_Movie.wmv

  8. It seems that self driving cars are getting closer and closer... Self-driving trucks have been given the nod of approval in the US under a landmark new autonomous technology trial. The state of Nevada has granted a licence for trialling fully autonomous Freightliner semi-trailers, in a clear indication that self-driving trucks could become legislated before passenger cars due to their operating in a "less complicated traffic environment". Under the trial conducted by Daimler, fully autonomous trucks will be permitted on certain Nevada highways, gathering valuable data from the real-world conditions.
  9. I know NPNT becoz I was quite far away and got TP watching, I cannot be inconsiderate. Pass by around 8pm Saw a what seems like a chemical truck over the railing of the very sharp bend of AYE Clementi Ave 6 exit (towards Tuas). I was entering AYE in the opposite entrance. Only had a few glances. The big truck was topple over the railing mid-way around the sharp bend. My wife spotted a couple of ambulance. Saw rescue workers running around. AYE as usual tail back to NUH with almost standstill traffic.

  13. Walmart revealed earlier Sunday afternoon (Feb 17, 2014) its WAVE Concept semi trailer. WAVE stands for Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience and introduces the concept of a fuel efficient next generation semi-trailer that may in fact power the flow of goods and services for Walmart products and possibly the rest of the United States flow of commerce. The WAVE concept is the latest of Walmart fleet efficiency program. With over 7000 trucks, Walmart's fleet of vehicles provides a large opportunity to increase fuel efficiency across the board and set an example for the rest of the big box stores. First of all, the Wave concept truck has an advanced, one of a kind, set of aerodynamics that sets it apart from any semi-trailer on the road today. With its hybrid powertrain entirely underneath the cab, the front end design isn't dictated by a large internal combustion engine. The cab itself sits atop its powertrain and offers a sleek wind tunnel designed front drivers window that offers a commanding view of the road. The entire cab is tapered to blend into the trailer itself, which at fifty-three feet long, is entirely made out of carbon fibre paneling (an industry first). All this carbon fibre saves around two whole tons, which can go towards hauling more goods and services. Powering this technological tour-de-force is a Capstone Turbine engine coupled to an electrical powertrain. Capstone Turbines is a California based gas turbine manufacturer that specializes in microturbine power along with heating and cooling cogeneration systems. Key to the Capstone design is its use of foil bearings, which provides maintenance and fluid-free operation for the lifetime of the turbine and reduces the system to a single moving part. This also eliminates the need for any cooling or other secondary systems.Their light weight, small size, and quick starting time make them ideal as "instant-on" backup power to recharge the main batteries. An example of a hybrid vehicle is the Capstone CTM-380, with a 30 kW gas turbine generator running on diesel, that recharges Li-Poly batteries when necessary. The CMT-380 has a proposed range of 80 miles on battery alone, but when combined with the micro turbine that range is pushed to over 500+ miles. With just a video announcement being the first the public has heard about this project, we’re all ears as to what Wal-Mart will do with such a revolutionary design. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvt7ptICxSY
total disrespect to the deceased and the family..no compassion and humanity at all... but wonder how come no one stayed on the truck? p/s: Radx is that your company car?
  15. Driver and passenger rescued from mangled taxi after AYE accident Posted on 23 October 2013 ST PHOTO: NEO XIAOBIN A serious accident involving a tipper truck, a lorry, and a taxi occurred this morning on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE). STOMPer Bary John sent in a photo of the accident to STOMP. According to a report in The Straits Times, a section of the AYE just before Tuas West had to be closed due to the accident. The driver of the taxi and his passenger were trapped inside the vehicle. They have been rescued by SCDF personnel and sent to hospital. The accident occurred at about 9.36am along the AYE towards Tuas close to the Tuas West Exit. How the accident occurred has not been established. cdman_frankie on Wed, 10/23/2013 - 15:16 Passed by at 0850hrs and saw the accident involving the tipper lorry loaded with wet clay, the taxi, one covered van, one 14 footer lorry and one passenger car. The tipper landed on its side and was supported by the taxi which right side was trapped by the center divider railing. Taxi driver was rescued about one hour later with applause from the onlookers and he managed a weak wave to thank them. A total of 5 passing lorry crane which passed by had helped to lift the tipper off from the taxi. SCDF had to cut open the top of the taxi roof top and rescued the passenger about two hours later. I am glad that there are still good souls on the roads who stopped their lorry crane to help, nearby construction workers came and assisted in securing the lifting belts and scooping out the clay out from the taxi interior.
  16. Men are constantly amazed by wonders - some straight from the natural world, while a good part of them are man-made. Arguably most of these man-made features serve purposes, but of course many are just 'overkill' attempts to keep themselves entertained. Think the tallest architectures, fastest machines, etc. Here we have one of the biggest machinery that rolls on Earth - Dump trucks. And it just got bigger. Capable of carrying and tugging around 496 tonnes of earth on its back, the Belaz 75710 claims to be the World's biggest in its field. To help it perform its tasks, it has not one, but two 16-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines underneath its hood (if you still consider the Belaz has one in the first place). Together, the powerplants pack a total of 130 litres of cylindrical capacity, and pump out 4,600bhp. Then, one would expect some mountain-shifting torque figure to get the truck moving - approximately 18,605Nm of them. Head to the video to see just how big this monster of a truck is. http://dai.ly/x15japq
  17. Happened to saw this truck driver door his door to spit while on the move along CTE this morning.......really crazy stunt.

  19. This is probably not your everyday car nor is it going to be setting any track records. But it is, by far, one of the coolest vehicles ever produced in recent years. The Ford Raptor debuted in 2010 as a SuperCab model with 310bhp, 5.4-litre V8 as a truck that is built to travel off-road at speeds that will break normal trucks. Since then it has been upgraded to a 6.2-litre V8, with 411bhp and 588Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. As with the 2010 version, the 2013 F-150 SVT Raptor is also available in a four-door SuperCrew model. With the introduction of the 2013 model, it features industry-first, direct-from-the-factory forged-aluminum conventional wheels that can be upgraded after purchase to extra-capable beadlocks. Beadlock wheels secure the edges of a tyre to the wheel between two surfaces so the tyre is unlikely to roll off the rim if it's aired down to very low pressure, providing extra grip on the trail. For 2013, SVT Raptor adds a new 4.2-inch multifunction LCD screen for the MyFord
