  1. Anyone ever try this way of turning your laptop or desktop to a touch screen monitor? It is of a low price and anyone got lobang or other brand that is better? I thinking to get one? P.S: I DON'T WORK FOR THIS COMPANY and not trying to promote them. DUO
  2. Hi, I always wondered if I am the only one who feels this way. It appears to me that our local drivers tend to be a bit tardy in moving off from a standstill at traffic lights. I'm specualting most of us either are too safe or afraid to hurt our precious engines (or wallets). Not that being safe is no good, just that I feel we r a bit too safe. What invariably happens is traffic gets held up. Some of my foreign frds also made this obervation though no malice intended, purely observation. Having lived and driven in a few other countires I thought so too. Just wanted to do a poll to check sentiment. Thanks!
  3. Ummmm.... I got this picture from facebook. The fellow who posted in facebook claim it was a weekend. Is real concert. not rehearsal. If that is a weekend, it would be the opening weekend or rather... a Sunday.
  4. Anyone experience this before? There is a werid smell when you turn an air con in the car off and on again after a while. There was no such smell when the aircon is on consistently. Anyway to get rid of the smell as well?
  5. Tech skeptics have been calling the iPhone a mere toy since its introduction, but the proliferation of apps and ancillaries tells a different story. From the "what will they think of next?" file comes MyDoorOpener, a two-pronged hardware/software solution for turning your iPhone into a garage door opener. That's right, to replace one thing, you need two! The rub is that you'll have your iPhone with you anyway, and if your car's not equipped with HomeLink, then the MyDoorOpener solution could mean one less thing to rattle around in the center console. The software is not yet approved, oh, and you'll have to build the receiver unit, too. That's right, break out the soldering iron and get comfortable with integrated circuits and transistors. It's not simple for everyone, but it's not rocket surgery, either. Lest the tinfoil in your hat start to chafe your scalp, rest assured that communications between devices is encrypted for security. All the instructions and details are at MyDoorOpener.com, and at least they provide schematics so you can make the stuff yourself, instead of buying some black box that puts your monthly balance in the red.
  6. I have pointed my middle fingers at 2 cars b4, one in the early morning, 8 to 9am once..... Those who have parked behind Sim Lim Square, Rochor Road, will know that there us a 1 way road, and it is leading out to the main Rochor Road... Sometimes, Motor-Bikes do also try to come in from that road, the un-lucky ones gets booked by TP if the TP does ambush. Anyway, in this instance, a car, a freaking car, yeah, 4 wheels, does a illegal turn into this small 1 way lane, against the flow of traffic, blasting at high speed, completely ignoring the fact there could be someone crossing this small road and might be knocked down by this idiot car... I trust my middle finger at this car, shouted some vulgar at him, cursing him n his family. His windows was actually winded down when I shouted.. Basket, got monies to drive car, no money to pay ERP.... At this instance, my cousin thought I was greeting a friend.... 2nd time, at nite, around 730PM. ERP still on.. $2.00 to enter, but a lady driver with a passenger somemore, also a lady does the same trick, but KNN, this time at night time liao leh, somemore, me and my girlfriend crossing the road, almost hit us.. I curse and swear and trust my middle finger as I tried to siam and push my girlfriend also away from the car.... Again the driver has her window opened, and I'm sure he heard what I shouted. This black lancer almost also hit a car too, with the incoming car also sounding a loud horn to this a------e
  7. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8507450.stm Honda has added 437,700 cars, mainly in North America, to its existing global safety recall over airbag inflation problems. It broadens a recall announced in late 2008 for less than 4,000 Accord and Civic sedans, then expanded in mid-2009 to cover another 510,000 vehicles. The latest announcement also covers Japan, Mexico, Taiwan and Australia. The fresh blow to Japanese carmakers came as Toyota recalled nearly half a million hybrid cars over faulty brakes. Toyota has already had to bring millions of other vehicles back to dealerships amid accelerator and floormat problems.
  8. DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Honda Motor Co. (HMC) Friday announced a voluntary worldwide recall of 646,000 compact cars so that it can examine window switches that can overheat if exposed to liquid, causing smoke or melting or even catch fire. Only about 10% of the Fit hatchbacks recalled will need replacement switches, with the remainder requiring the fitment of waterproof skirts to prevent water seeping in. "Under some severe operating conditions, water, rain, or other liquid may enter the driver's window and reach the master power window switch, resulting in impaired function of the switch," the Japanese car maker said in a statement. "If the master power window switch is damaged as a result of the liquid intrusion, it may result in failure of the switch and overheating. "An overheating switch may cause smoke, melting or, potentially, fire," it added. The recall affects models built in Japan, China, Brazil, Thailand, Malaysia and India. Of the vehicles being recalled, 171,372 are in the U.K., where the model is known as the Jazz, 141,140 are in the U.S. and 229,000 are in Latin America. Honda's recall comes as Toyota Motor Corp. this week halted sales of its most popular models in North America in response to growing concerns that possible defects to accelerator pedals may cause vehicles to speed up unintentionally. Toyota Wednesday expanded its recall to Europe and on Thursday to China. -By Jonathan Buck, Dow Jones Newswires; +44 (0)207 842 9237; [email protected]

  11. I figure that if you have been driving on the ECP in the morning and you live somewhere along the East Coast belt, Katong, Marine Parade, Bedok, etc. you would have noticed that the driving times have been increasing steadily and that traffic has been getting heavier. I have my beliefs that the increase in time would be due to the increasing number of vehicles from the North and North East of Singapore using the KPE and exiting at ECP. Personally, I have seen driving times increase by an average of about 10 mins (no traffic accidents) since say a year ago. So, if you were living along the east coast belt and were given a vote on whether to turn on ERP on the KPE which would effectively reduce your driving/commuting time to work, which one would you choose? Bear in mind, assuming that with heavier traffic on the ECP in the morning, ERP rates are likely to rise anyway, but if KPE starts charging, it would reduce/keep ERP rates on the ECP at bay. Would you choose to benefit yourself in both money or time? Or would you rather suffer and vote No.

  13. guys, do any of u use upper payer lebar road towards ubi in the morning?? Recently after they spent millions building and opening the underpass at bartley road, the jam has improved considerably. But there is still jam further up and I realised that it is due to inconsiderate drivers doing illegal u turns at the right turn into Lor Ong Lye. Basically right after the junction between the upper payer lebar rd and lor ah soo there is a right turn opening into Lor Ong Lye. But INCONSIDERATE drivers has been using that opening to do illegal u-turns. Because that opening DOES NOT have a waiting lane, one single stupid driver will jam up the right lane. The left lane is bus lane, so we end up with only one lane for traffic. Furthermore, just like 100m down there is a u turn with a nice waiting lane which can accomodate a few cars but people are too lazy to drive 100m more. I feedback to LTA already but they say the right turn is to distribute traffic into some dunno what roads which I think is totally nonsense. They should just close of the right turn as there is a u turn just further up ahead. Can more people help to feedback? the number to call is 1800 - 2255 582 it takes only 2 minutes to call but if they fix this, it can save us like 5-10 minutes everyday. the roads in question are here http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel...vel_site_86993/
  14. [inline DangerousDriver.jpg] Was driving home on PIE to Tampines with my wife after her discharge from SGH 1 day stay. It was about 1925hrs on 20 Mar 2008. Encountered this Red Kia Picanto after Eunos Flyover towards Tampines on the PIE. I was actually behind a yellow cab and the Kia Picanto was about the 3rd car infront of the cab. And all of us were on 1st lane. Noticed that the speed was only about 90km/h to 95km/h only. Then notice 2 cars in front of me (including a really fast toyota altis) overtaking the picanto on the 2nd lane...so realised the the picanto was the culprit road hogger. I then had no choice as I saw a bmw 7 series following me pretty close behind and I can't overtake on the 2nd lane as by the path is not avail. I had no choice by approach cautiously behind the picanto closer and gave him a short 2 high beam warning. The idiot did't move. The bmw the gave me a 1 short high beam too...stressed...so I decided to give a slight long high beam and a slight tap on my stebal magnum as I know it is pretty loud...and the bloddy f ker still dont move to lane 2 even though he could as by then we had space and we were already past tampines south flyover...(imagine he road hog for so long) He then tried to brake fast twice and lucky I was not behind him too close....I then deiced then this is a lunatic and then had no choice by to do a not advisavle overtaking on the left on lane 2. As I pass beside him, he then held his horn and so I replied on my stebel. I wanted to exit at TPE loyang flyover but I then noticed this f ker then stalked behind me and turn on his high beam on. He blinded my vision on my rear mirror and I had no use of it. So I decided to take a quick exit at simei flyove and still he followed dangerously. I know he did't want to use this route as I can see that he made a dangerous cut thought the white split divider just to follow me behind and he even force a car and lorry to give way to him just to continue his stalking with high beam. We then turn right onto Tamp Ave 2 and I told my wife that I will drive straight to the nearest police post if he continues his nonsence....and he did. We were just at the juction outside Tamp East CC we were on lane 1 that waiting on red and to turn into St 32. I got so pissed off walk out of my car and went to snap this pic with my phone, then went back into by car....just in time, the traffic turn green and I turn into st 32 but I notice then he did not continue to stalk me with his high beam as he did not followed into st 32 however he left a short soft noise from his horn behind me as I move away. Just because he has many turbo/oil pressure/temp guages on his "fast and furious" car does not means that he has the right to road hog and then turn "semi-pro" ah beng to other who "ask" him to siam...and why the f k you are driving with your fog lights too on a clear night? Isn't you f king high beam bright enough? So my fellow MCF bro and sis...be very careful with this f ker. I am so pissed off but because of my wife poor health condition that I and putting this matter just on MCF so that this fellow can learn his lesson OR ELSE I will send this matter to my good neighbour TP for help liao.

  17. In the Environment Protection and Management Act, Chapter 94A, Section 12 (5) and 77, Environment Protection and Managment (Vehicular Emissions) Regulations, it states: PART V OFFENCES 19 Smoky motor vehicles 20 Excessive noise 21 Stationary motor vehicles 21A Duty to provide information 22 Restriction of motor vehicles on roads 23 Penalty Stationary motor vehicles (1) Subject to paragraph (2), the driver of every motor vehicle shall, when the vehicle is stationary for reasons other than traffic conditions, stop the engine of or other machinery attached to or forming part of the vehicle. (2) Nothing in paragraph (1) shall apply to the examination or working of the machinery attached to or forming part of a motor vehicle where any such examination or working is rendered necessary by any failure or derangement of the machinery or where the machinery is required to be worked for some ancillary purpose. (3) Any person who fails to comply with paragraph (1) shall be guilty of an offence. Penalty 23. Any person who is guilty of an offence under any provision of these Regulations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $5,000. Clearly, it is an offence not to turn off the engine when your vehicle is stationary, for example, you run off to buy 4D while your wife or children wait in the car with the engine on. Another example you see all the time is at the school gates, parents waiting for their child to finish school, sat in their cars with engine on. Prehaps this law is obscure which is why we even see motorist leaving the engine on while refuelling at the petrol station. Maybe NEA should start a campaign to educate motorist about this.

  19. Realised that many drivers turn on headlight automatically upon entering any carparks, even if they are not covered up and are brightly lit up! Is it a old habit carry forward from yester-years? Were you given that piece of advice when you started driving? Just felt that it is not really necessary nowadays with most of the carparks as they are generally well illuminated. Really not logical and waste of energy. What do you think?
  20. Cancer-stricken man, grateful to neighbour for nursing him, dies 5 hours after hospital solemnisation Marry me at deathbed now to inherit my flat (source: http://www.tnp.sg/news/story/0,4136,192235,00.html?) SHE was devoted to him. He was dying of cancer, and she stayed by his side, continuing to care for him even when he became incontinent and she had to bathe and clean him. They were not husband and wife, yet they did not need wedding rites to seal their love. They were legally married only when he was on his deathbed. And only because he wanted to leave his flat to her. The bride turned widow on the same day. He died hours after signing their marriage certificate. Their marriage was the most memorable one for solemniser Mr David Loh, 61, who conducted the ceremony by the 64-year-old groom's hospital bed. Though the marriage took place 61/2 years ago, on 29 August 2002, the memory is fresh in his mind. 'It was the most touching marriage I ever saw. It was the saddest, but I could feel there was so much real unconditional love between the two of them,' he said. He declined to give their names, saying he wanted to respect the privacy of the wife and her family. Mr Loh had received an urgent call the day before to solemnise the marriage. 'I didn't ask any questions when I heard the location was at the National University Hospital,' he recalled. ENDURING LOVE: The 64-year-old cancer patient, seen here with his then 50-year-old neighbour, was so weak that he could barely speak during the solemnisation at his hospital bed. It was only when he reached the venue the next day that he learnt of the circumstances of this mature couple's marriage. 'When I arrived, I was quite surprised because I saw the couple and two young women in their late 20s and they already seemed like a family to me,' he said. He had assumed the two young women were the couple's daughters from their behaviour. 'They treated the man like he was their father,' he recalled. He then found out that the two young women were the grown-up daughters of the 50-year-old bride and the groom was actually their downstairs neighbour at a block of three-room flats in Bukit Merah. 'The groom then told me that his neighbour and her two daughters had taken care of him throughout his illness and he wanted to marry her so that she could have his flat when he passed away in order to repay their kindness,' recounted Mr Loh. Sceptical of the motives of the bride-to-be, Mr Loh said he questioned the man further. 'I wanted to make sure he knew what he was doing. I asked him if he really wanted to marry the woman and if he was sure that she would become the owner of his flat should he pass away,' said Mr Loh. But the man's answer was resolute. He replied that he knew he was dying. The doctors had already told him there was nothing more they could do except give him medication to ease his pain. The man told Mr Loh that he knew he could lose consciousness soon and thus wanted to ensure that the 50-year-old woman who nursed him through his illness could inherit his three-room HDB flat. Mr Loh then spoke to the woman and her two daughters in order to find out more. 'I observed that they were indeed very attentive to him,' he recalled. 'They would wipe his mouth because he could not control his salivation, and the woman would constantly be watching him and adjusting his blanket or pillow to make sure he was as comfortable as possible.' He then learnt from the woman that she had been taking care of the man for more than a year. He had been suffering from cancer long before they met. Cooked for sick man She and her daughters took turns to clean his flat, wash his clothes, and cooked three meals a day for him. They even bathed and helped clean him when he became incontinent. 'He had to use adult diapers, and when I asked where the money for the expenses came from, the woman simply replied that as he didn't have any money, she supported him,' said Mr Loh. 'I was very moved. They were not related, yet she and her daughters were more than a family to him.' Mr Loh who has overseen 6,000 weddings as a solemniser for the past 12 years decided that he had to help the dying man fulfil his last wish. 'The groom was in a lot of pain and he could barely speak. But he forced himself to sit up for the ceremony and sign the marriage certificate,' said Mr Loh. The groom could not afford a single ward, so Mr Loh drew the curtains around the bed for privacy and conducted the solemnisation with the two daughters as witnesses. He then took his camera and took a few pictures of the couple and the family. 'I told them they must have some pictures to keep for memories. It was only during the photo-taking they smiled a little. Other than that, the atmosphere was very sad,' he recalled. Only five hours after he had solemnised the marriage, Mr Loh received a call from one of the woman's daughters that the groom had died. 'They were so helpless and at a loss as to what to do and asked me for advice,' Mr Loh said. His wife made arrangements for her husband to be cremated according to his last wishes. 'It was the shortest marriage, but it was true love. They were like real husband and wife long before they went through the formalities,' he said.
  21. 60 parents turn up for second parental matchmaking session By Ng Wei Keng, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 14 December 2008 2140 hrs SINGAPORE: Picking up from an idea suggested by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong earlier this year, 60 parents turned up for a parental matchmaking session on Sunday to find partners for their children aged between 25 and 45 years old. This follows the success of the first such session in September where 80 parents turned up. Many of today's participants declined to be identified as they had signed up without their children's knowledge. Organisers also conducted a talk on how to broach the idea of parental matchmaking with their children as some singles may mistake it as a form of arranged marriage. But organisers said it's just a way for singles to expand their social networks. Lydia Gan, parental matchmaking session organizer, said:
  22. i was on dunearn road turning into eng neo going up to PIE around 1935hrs when there was a blockade and an auxillary police officer directing people to u-turn. something happened on PIE? had to go back via adam road -> lornie anyone got caught also?
  23. came across this Traffic Rules FAQ at one local website: "Junctions When turning right on a large junction, you will cross the lanes of traffic travelling in the opposite direction. You will have to give way. Wait in the designated boxes on the junction for the traffic coming from the oppostite direction to clear, or wait for the green arrow on the traffic lights to light up, in which case traffic from the opposite site will stop and you can proceed. A flashing arrow means you must stop, unless you are too close to stop safely (same as amber on a normal traffic light) When turning left on a junction, you might come across a slipway leading you past the traffic lights. If this is the case, you do not have to stop for the traffic lights, but you must give way to traffic on the road you are about to merge into." I thought this FAQ is just fine but my friend views otherwise. His view is that at the junction with traffic light regulating right turning and when it's red arrow, you cannot turn right until the green arrow is lighted up, even there is designated right turn box and the oncoming traffic from opposite direction is clear. I am getting confused and your view is appreciated.
