  1. my friend ask me how many S2000 Type S are there in the world. a search on wiki shows only 100. really so little? anyone know whether it's really only 100 of them?
  2. http://www.tremeritus.com/2014/04/02/which-type-of-voter-are-you/ Which type of voter are you? Came across something interesting (http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-26689333) that can be used to analyse (ok pontificate on or BS on) voting patterns in S’pore. 1. Comfortable Nostalgia: “They tend to be older, more traditional voters who dislike the social and cultural changes they see as altering [country] for the worse.” 2. Optimistic Contentment: “Confident, comfortable & usually on higher incomes they are prudent & tolerant but think [country] is a soft touch.” 3. Calm Persistence: “Often coping rather than comfortable, they hope rather than expect things to get better.” 4. Hard-pressed Anxiety: “Pessimistic & insecure, these people want more help from government and resent competition for that help particularly from new-comers.” 5. Long-term Despair: “Many are serial strugglers; angry & alienated they feel little or no stake in the country or that anyone stands up for them.” 6. Cosmopolitan Critics: “Generally younger, more secular and urban-based, worried about growing inequality & the general direction the country is going in.” “Comfortable Nostalgia” and “Optimistic Contentment” (me?) would be daft not to vote PAP, while “Hard-pressed Anxiety”, “Long-term Despair” and “Cosmopolitan Critics” would surely vote for the opposition to the PAP? Though after the 2011 GE, Eric Tan (remember him?) told me that it was a surprise that well-off S’poreans, who could see that their children (grown-up or growing up) were not or would not enjoy the good life that they had or have, voted for the opposition. The fight would be for the “Calm Persistence” voters, and the “Hard Pressed Anxiety”? But if the SDP and WP decide to fight each other and the PAP, there will be problems because based on the results of PE 2011, the SDP had most of the votes of the “Long-term Despair” and “Cosmopolitan Critics”; while the WP had support among “Calm Persistence” even if the RI doctors in the SDP fell into this group, and “Hard-pressed Anxiety” (the SDP and WP shared the votes with some “daft” ones voting PAP ). By avoiding three-way fights, these two parties with the Chiams, NSP and the other parties could make sure that the anti-PAP voters are used to maximum effect. Hence the uproar when Chee (escaped his RI doctors?) wanted to fight the WP in Punggol-East. Fortunately, the uproar of public protests shocked him back to sanity, and treatment. BTW, I think based on the postings on TRE, the majority of TRE posters would seem fall into the “Hard-pressed Anxiety”and “Long-term Despair” (i.e. into the losers) even though TeamTRE belongs in the “Calm Persistence” and “Hard-pressed Anxiety” categories: the only people who would spend time and money on doing what they believe is right, even if the losers are freeloading on their efforts. TOC’s editors, team and natural readers would fall under “Calm Persistence”, “Hard-pressed Anxiety”and “Cosmopolitan Critics” groups. Those who read this blog (not via TRE) are in 1-5. Why TRE republishes my articles I know not. Maybe it’s to tell the losers that life is more complex than the PAP’s demands (“for us or against us”) that the losers seem to have adopted? Or maybe because it knows that there is a silent majority of readers in the “Calm Persistence” and “Hard-pressed Anxiety”. It could be since TRE has raised funds to keep going for another year. So maybe the TRE community is more than losers freeloading on the efforts of TeamTRE? Finally, as to why I’m not a PAP supporter, it’s largely because1 I don’t like the PAP’s attitude of insisting on imposing the “right” values on S’poreans (even if I may agree with many these values like hating freeloaders and losers who expect something for nothing). I believe that: “… pensioners would be free to spend their savings on a Lamborghini following a rule change in the Budget. From 2015, people reaching retirement age will be able to use pension pots however they want, rather than having to buy a guaranteed annual income. Pensions minister Steve Webb said it was people’s “choice” whether to buy Italian Lamborghini sports cars.” http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-26649162 It’s our choice to do dumb things provided we are prepared to live with the consequences without moaning and groaning. — 1Also I believe that a one-party state is bad for S’pore. For this reason I think the problems in public transport and housing were caused by the PAP. BTW, one could argue that its recent changes in its public housing and transport policies and its seeming change in FT PMET policy are geared at winning over the “Calm Persistent” voters and moving “Hard Pressed Anxiety” voters into the “Calm Persistent” group; and the “Calm Persistent” voters into the “Optimistic Contentment” category. It’s also trying to show S’poreans that the good life can still be found here. Cynical Investor Source: Thoughts of a Cynical Investor

The Defence Ministry (Mindef) said in a statement on Monday that it inked a deal with German defence contractor Thyssenkrupp Marine System on Nov 29 to buy two Type 218SG vessels. The contract includes a logistics package and the training of Singaporean crew in Germany. The new vessels, together with two second-hand Archer-class submarines, will replace four ageing Challenger-class submarines. Mindef said that the Challenger-class vessels, which were built in the 1960s, will be progressively retired from service. The new vessels are expected to be delivered from 2020. The decision to buy the new German-made submarines follows Defence Minister Ng Hen's comments in March about Mindef's plan to replace the Challenge submarines with new ones.
  4. This is probably one of the most spectacular-looking and second most talked about Jaguar concept of recent (The first, of course, is the C-X75 hypercar which, sadly, will never make it to daylight). So what's so spectacular about this, you may ask? First, it packs a 5.0-litre V8 with 550bhp, capable of catapulting the roadster to 100km/h in just over four seconds. Secondly, it is based on the ultra-sexy F-Type that made its local debut not too long ago. Then, there is the 'hump' which sits behind the driver, paying homage to the legendary Jaguar D-Type. A crash-course on the history of the D-Type: it is one of the most successful race car from the prancing cat (no pun intended), having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row for Jaguar from 1955 to 1957. Till date, Jaguar has taken a total of seven Le Mans wins - hence the name 'Project 7'. And we reckon that this is one of the coolest ways for Jaguar to highlight its racing pedigree. Unlike most concept cars, the Project 7 actually runs. At last month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, for instance, the cat pounced up the hill climb course, beaming and basking in the attention of the crowd. Just in case you haven't noticed, the feline badge puts on a pair of shades on the concept - perhaps the marque's way to telling you that this is a real cool car. Production? Maybe not. But it certainly puts a smile on the fans.

  7. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has told Auto Express the Civic Type-R is still on track to go on sale sometime in 2015. We already know from Honda UK Managing Director Dave Hodgetts the car will offer at least 265 bhp (198 kW) but they are trying to squeeze around 300 bhp (224 kW). Power will come from a turbocharged 1.6- or 2.0-liter engine, with higher chances of seeing the larger displacement under the hood. Development of the model is conducted specifically for Europe and will include several findings obtained from the firm's experience in the World Touring Car Championship. Testing will begin this fall at the N
  8. Taken from Wiki "Even the best ionisers will produce a small amount of ozone. At high concentrations, ozone can also be toxic to air-borne bacteria, and may destroy or kill these sometimes infectious organisms. However, the needed concentrations are toxic enough to humans and animals." So in that case, are there air purifiers without ionizer but true HEPA?

  11. WTF! Seems like the driver is anticipating the accident. So calm when he alight from the car. Maybe saw the camera, quickly run for his life ============================================================= http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...#commentSection Driver causes crash by swerving into STOMPer's lane and jamming on brakes A Honda driver cut into STOMPer Sam's lane along Cross Street and then jammed on his brakes, causing the STOMPer to hit his car. The incident happened at about 9am yesterday (March 12). The driver then exited his vehicle, took photos of the accident and the STOMPer's car, and simply drove off. Said the STOMPer: "The clip that I have attached is the accident between me and the other party. "The timing from the clip is not accurate. It should be on March 12, at 9am. "I was driving along Cross Street when suddenly, a Honda Civil Type R dashed into my lane and jammed his brakes, causing me to jam my brakes as well. "I didn't manage to stop in time so I banged into the car. "The best part is he came out from his car, took photographs of the accident, and then drive off just like that, without saying a word. "Just wanted to warn everyone to be aware if you see this car, as his driving is very dangerous and endangers other road users. "I have since made a police report."

  17. Need some ideas, how to tackle this type of F up driver who snapped your parking lot after you waited for so long. Damn piff off Yesterday was at Wilkie road, one way traffic. There was a few park lot along the road . The lane width is about 3 car width. so on the right side is the parking lot which are fully taken up. So i waited on left side of the lane so I dun block the traffic and allow space for car to drive through between my car and the parking lot. Then waited for 30min there and finally saw one car moving off from the lot. my signal is on and after the car left the lot, I saw one guy stand on the lot and one idiot Toyota Rush just slot in. I walked over to him and he tell me he though I park there waiting for PEOPLE not the Parking LOT. F***ing do Lan .... (my car only 1 car length beside the lot) He even said I should wait beside the car lot not another side (I tell him if beside will block the traffic). He told me is my problem. Quarrel with them but they walked off say they rush for meeting. This lot after 5pm is FOC end up park at another paid car park which cost me $8 !!! money may not be the issue but the damn act make me piss off !!! (I believe some people here will write me off say got money drive car no money pay car park, so if you are one, leave this chat thanks). next time see you illegal parking I sure report !!!

  20. See the link: http://www.mycarforum.com/blog/myautoblog/...charged-engine/ Finally, Honda is back with Type R - 1.6L Turbo estimated 210 hp. I am sure this is going to great for SIN especially 1.6L (Cat A) car. Probably, you guy should watch the WTCC racing and digest how the Type R perform...... Civic has lost much of the market share in Europe since the 9th generation win the boy's racer choice.
  21. Dear fellow MCFers, For those who drive the FL N.Sunny, any idea what viscosity & type of engine oil used during the first 3 free servicing (1000km, 5000km & 10000km) & following Nissan Preventive Maintenance Program, NPMP, (20000km, 30000km,40000km & 50000km)? 23. A Bangladeshi cleaner was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal yesterday over the death of an Indonesian maid, whose body was found in a water tank. But the cleaner faces new charges not related to the murder. Repon Mostafa, 29, had been charged with the murder of Ms Ruliyawati, 30, on the rooftop of Block 686B Woodlands Drive 73 in May last year. He now faces five new charges not related to the murder, including three for trespassing on the rooftop of Block 686B last year. The other two charges relate to possessing an obscene film and eight uncertified video files containing films in his mobile phone. District Judge Lim Tse Haw ordered Mostafa to be remanded after he failed to raise $5,000 bail. His case was adjourned to July 24 for his lawyer Ram Goswami to take instructions from his client.
