  1. Just like to share my experience with all ... I've recently took over a set of 215/45R17 ContiSportsContact2 from Modeldriver and I must say, the tyre is really quiet ! The CSC2 is supposedly classified as Type A+ and stock with many performance car,e.g. Porsche. Prior to this, I was using the "famous" AspecdB at 195/65R15. So, naturally, I am prepared for a huge degration in terms of tyre noise. P.S: The car gets quite a bit of tyre noise. With 15,000km used before I took over, the tyre can be considered worn to a certain extend. Even with the AspecdB, with this mileage, it is starting to get noisy. However, the CSC2 is extremely quiet for it's width and profile, only when going over road imperfection, does the thud sounds louder than AspecdB. To anyone who want to have a good compromise between tyre noise vs performance, this is highly recommended. P.S: According to Conti website, the tyre is made like a cat's paw. When on the move, the contact is lesser, but when braking, the tyre "spread" out thus covering more area. http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/...im_grip_en.html
  2. Hi guys, guess you guys are expert on this...my car tyres sort of locked when i jam brake today while trying to avoid a taxi... no accident but i think its very dangerous for me to drive around my car in this condition. the ground is wet cos' its drizzling just now. any advice?
  3. hi fellows. recently my beemer 318i doesn't move as quick as before when i put on D without pressing the accelerator. i suspected it was the car tyre pressure that is low so i used a car tyre pressure gauge and some of the tyres are having a PSI of 26. my tyre configuration is 225/45 R17 91W. i need to know what PSI/Bar to initialize before doing it at the petrol kiosk. thanks in advance.
  4. Hi, just wondering how do we know if our tyres are the type that can rotate from left to right. i know rotating from front to back is the standard, but as I got 1 new vs 4 old tyres, was thinking of rotating from left to right if possible. by the way, to do our own rotation, means better to have 2 jacks at least right?
  5. If wheel wobble is not noticible when on the balancing machine (balance 0:0) but vibrates when driving. Some say rim may be warped but how to tell? How do i know it's not the tyres instead?

    Tyre cost

Hi, anyone know how much is a 195/60 Michelin tyre cost? Which type is better - XH1 or XT2 ..etc..? currently using Michelin tyres.
  7. Hi folks, Some of the folks prefer to go without a spare tyre in the boot. Care to share your reasons? Just to reduce overall weight of car without the spare tyre, rim and equipments? Pro and cons? If I decided to change my rims, and also at the same time, make it 5 so that I have a spare rim in my boot, am I doing something unpractical here? Of course I don't expect myself to get a burst tyre everyday ... but as I discovered, can be quite troublesome to get the towtruck in when it does happens. Ed

    Tyre weight

Hi all, Can anyone enlighten which website have tyre's weight reference/database? My 17" rim & tyre is total 18.5kg, how to find out seperate weight without "seperating" them?? Cheers
  10. Hi, i like to find out which 14" tyres are good for M'sia roads and those slightly rougher terrains like those prawn farm areas? Wet grip is important. Not too loud if possible but key consideration is the relatively good grip and not ex. Thanks!
  11. Yesterday while topping up petrol at Esso, had a look at my tyre and thought they looks a little under inflated. So after topping up petrol u turn & waited in the queue ( 2 cars in front) to pump tyre. Finally my turn came, the pump has either PSI or Kpa but found that the label on the octy indicate BAR !!!, Front 2 bar , rear 2.2 bar ? In the end left w/o topping up. So how much is 2 BAR = ? PSI or ? KPA (can anybody help ?) Does tyre size make any diff on the pressure ? my tyre is 195/65/R15.
  12. My current stock tyres are 205/65R15 and thinking of upgrading to a 16" rims, but got different feedbacks from different tyres companies.... So basically seeking the Bros here on their opinions on this.... For 215/55R16, the width of the tyres is bigger therefore more contact area with the ground during dry weather, but increase chances of skidding during wet weather... Not sure whether it will increase the fuel economy??? Check out this website @ http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for more info... Thanks !!
  13. Just spotted this at a website. Might be interesting to those who like to DIY their wheels, paint calipers, brake maintenance and perhaps soundproof the wheel arches. www.zonnex.com/products.html
  14. I am currently using 215/55/16 tyres. I was using a "tire size calculator" to compare different sizes in case tyres don't comes in the size I want. When I compare 215/55/16 with 225/55/16 ,the calculation shows that the diameter difference shows 1.68%. According to the calculator, it is safe to use the alternative size. In addition, the calculator also says as it is safe as logn as it stays within 3% of the original. Question is, is this true? If the 3% rule is true, I would be able to use 205/55/16, 205/60/16, 225/50/16 tyres. It opens up many possibilities. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
  15. Theft Deterrent Chrome Valve Caps Was introduced to this by my brother in law who's staying in the USA. Searched a few sites on the net and the prices are all about the same 2 pairs @ USD$30 excluding shipping. Think if you guys have friends overseas (Turbobrick ), can ask them to get and send over to save on shipping? One of the sites selling.. shipping charges is a real killer! http://www.3sxperformance.com/trinkets.asp This is a set of 4 valve caps with the Mitsubishi Diamonds logo or Dodge Ram Head logo on the top and a pair of "keys" used to tighten/loosen the valve caps that can go on your keyring. You simply slide the valve cap into the key, there's a squared notch that lines up, and install the valve cap. Then slide the key off the cap. Now the chrome valve caps just turn freely - you can not remove them without the black key.

  23. My mechanic noticed that my rear left and right tyre inner tread block closest to the car body is wearing off unevenly - higher, lower, higher, lower...... This first mech told me is due to the rear suspension problem and need to be change. The second mech told me my Conti Contact EP tyre is not meant for Singapore weather and thus the uneven wear off. My rear passenger did told me he feel bumpy sitting behind. So, this problem is firstly due to the suspension or the tyre itself. Or is of other reasons. Please advise me. Thank you.
