  1. Why are the Telok-Blangah/Pasir-Panjang and Kaki-Bukit/Tampines overhead highway so under-used ? Whenever I travel on them, traffic is almost non-existent.
  2. Anyone know where in Singapore can do the under carriage wash? Thanks for any input. Rgds, MarcosTan
  3. i was going out yesterday afternoon when i happened to find a mummy cat nursing her 2 newborns under my car. afraid that my car undercarriage might hit the mummy cat, i tried to shoo it off but it wouldn't budge then i tried to use my umbrella to shoo it off too, but she still sat there quietly looking at me and making sure i didn't touch her kitties. i was quite in a rush, so i assessed the cat and my undercarriage, making sure there are no pipes tt might hit her if i should move out slowly. after slowly moving out, i rushed out of my car to see - lucky the cat and kitties were alright the kitties were sooooooo cute, still learning to walk properly. pity i didnt have my hp/camera w me.. those who park at CCK blk 678 MSCP, pls look out for these cuties. make sure they're not under ur car before u drive off and if u're not allergic, find a better place for them than underneath cars
  4. Just got my 1992 starlet about one week. Today afternoon, while removing barang from the boot, found about 1 to 2 litres of water under the spare tyre. Cleaned out the boot, check surroundings and find no traces of holes where water could seep in. Was wondering how the water got into the boot and guess the water was the cause for the mist which blows out from the air con for the last 2 days. Any advice on how the water seep into the boot is appreciated. Cheers

  10. I guess there are many silliporeans fuelled the car replacement trend in SGP the last few years. Looking at the trend, is it possible to see $1K or $5K COE in the near future? I know it's wishful thinking, but I believe there will be a time when the trend will slow down and if there is not enough bidders for CAT A or B. Aren't we getting $1 COE? Maybe by then, the gahmen may just decide to reduce the COE quota, basically come back to square 1 and COE goes up. ================================================================================ ========== Trend worries green groups, car workshops and even economists-Straits Times 3rd July 06 CARS on the road here are less than three years old, fuelled by an early-scrapping trend that has not lost steam despite counter measures introduced in 2002. Besides motor workshops and inspection centres which have been seeing a slowdown in business, the trend worries environmentalists. Singapore Environment Council executive director Howard Shaw said: 'It's yet another manifestation of our use-and-throw society. It's not something we'd encourage.' According to estimates based on Land Transport Authority figures, 66 per cent of the 450,000 passenger cars here were less than three years old at end-June. About 85 per cent of them are less than five years old. This makes Singapore possibly the country with the newest cars. Even in Japan, one of the top exporters of used vehicles, the average age of a car is six years. In America, the average age of a car is 10 years. In New Zealand, it is 12 years. The dubious honour of having the youngest fleet comes at a price. Since 2000, Singapore has scrapped or exported more than half a million vehicles. This is because reduced taxes, lower COE prices and cheaper financing have brought down new car prices substantially, and diluted the resale value of existing ones. Hence, owners scrap or export their cars to recover the residual taxes. Often they are able to buy new, cheaper cars without having to pay higher monthly instalments. Mr Shaw said: 'A huge amount of energy goes into making a car and shipping it here. We encourage people to keep their cars right up to the 10th year.' Scrapping cars early has also been highlighted by economists as a drain on the country's foreign exchange earnings. While new car salesmen and car owners have good reason to be cheerful, business continues to be slow for motor workshops and inspection centres. Workshop operator Bernard Low, 60, said: 'If I had not branched out to Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur, I would have had to close shop.' A spokesman for ComfortDelGro Corp, parent company of vehicle inspection firm Vicom, said: 'Demand for vehicle inspections has fallen. But we remain confident that there will be fewer deregistrations going forward.' She said this was because a change to the scrap rebate formula has resulted in much less residual tax values for cars registered from 2002. But Mr Neo Nam Heng, a leading exporter of used vehicles, pointed out that an average of 9,500 vehicles were deregistered in the first five months - little changed from last year. 'We are seeing 2003 and 2004 cars in our yard now. But we would have to monitor over the next two months to see if the figures change.'
  11. Was shopping for cars recently, and I came across that one compay was telling me that they can sell the cars cheaper to me by under declaring the omv of the cars, I was wondering how would this affect us as consumers? Is there a way for us to know for sure, whether or not certain sellers are under declaring their cars' omv. Any bros has any insight?
  12. OK here is the deal. Lets say my car can use 2 different tire sizes. 195/50-15 and 185/55-15. Obviously the latter the narrower and taller tire. Now, my car like any typical owner here is a FF car. If I were to install the narrow, taller tire behind as opposed to the same sized tire, what will the effects be? Will I get reduced understeer?
  13. That stands for Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System. It is by API and it is a list that shows the oils that meet their API Starburst. http://eolcs.api.org/DisplayServiceCategories.asp Interestingly, Caltex Singapore shows up in the SL category and they actually make Delo 400 and Delo Gold SAE30 oil. Dunno if we can get our hands on it. Delphi Automotive Systems of Singapore blends the Delphi oil. Good news to Vit4WD. He can press for cheaper oil because it is local. Among the names that came up is Carrefour! Yes, Total Lubrifants makes Carrefour 5W30 and 5W50 oil. Check it out. An interesting look into who markets and blends the oil.
  14. Volkswagen's Czech-built Skoda brand will be introduced Down Under next June http://editorial.carsales.com.au/mellor/me...A25708400145181 This would have been good news for us if Skoda was introduced into Australia earlier as I would believe more aftermarket parts would be made available....for owners of the current Octys, Fabias and Superbs. Fabia and Superb owners still have a glimmer of hope for more aftermarket parts from down under soon though For Octy owners, well... tough luck
  15. Someone from the other ICE forum just pm me to audition his DIY ICE. I see this interesting and thus posting here to share. After i went thru, i was shocked as the fella told me that it was built under 1.8k. All 2nd Hand and it took 9mths to complete. I wonder did he con anyone to sell him cheap? For me this is value for money. Basically i think it is a steal and this guy knows what we all lost in our trait. Bargain or a Sharp Eye for Value. Alpine 9833 (BAU) Front Speakers: CDT ES (Good) Rear Speakers: Boston Rally 6.35 (He stressed MADE IN USA but can't find this in the web-site) Audison LRX 4.300 channels (Hmm..) Lanzar Opti Amp for sub (??? Surprise) 12" Rainbow Sub SW300. (Ok...) Give your comments.
  16. Hi I frequent MCF and has gain alot from fellow bros. I could just find about anything in the performance folder: magnets, plugs, CAI, Filters, mufflers, exhaust headers, ECUs & piggys, tuners, electric blowers, throttle valve & body, Fuel rails & regulators, fuel booster, springs & shocks, oil coolers etc etc. Newbie posting repeated threads nowadays receive less feedback and its also quite taxing to view thru the search fuction as it retuns all postings instead of just the title. I thinking of having sub folders under performance to assist new/existing users identify what they wish to know on car mods. It would be nice if the mods can help segregating the existing threads into: 1) Intake 2) Exhaust 3) Engine management 4) Fuel management 5) Aftermarket addons - aka snake oil 6) Handling Its just a suggestion, have a nice day everyone

  19. THE STRAITS TIMES INTERACTIVE Dec 22, 2004 Cyclist gets pinned under wheel of bus 37-year-old cycling in a group in critical condition after bus hits and drags him By Teh Joo Lin A GROUP of about 40 cyclists looked on in horror as one of their group was pinned under the right front wheel of a bus in Lim Chu Kang Road on Sunday morning. Mr Sylvester Ang is now in a critical condition at National University Hospital after being rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The 37-year-old store designer was part of a group of cyclists who ride every Sunday on a trail that stretches from Thomson to Newton. The group had begun riding as usual at 8.30am and had turned from Neo Tiew Road into Lim Chu Kang Road when the accident occurred. Mr Richard Tann, 55, a general manager of a moving company, was ahead of the pack, when he saw a blue bus approaching from the opposite direction. Mr Tann said a lorry was parked in front of the bus, so he signalled to the bus driver to stop and not change lanes until the line of cyclists had passed. 'But he showed me his middle finger and moved out of his lane,' he alleged. Seconds later, Mr Tann heard a 'very loud' bang. According to eyewitnesses, after the bus left its lane, the cyclists were forced to slow down and shift further to the left. Another member of the group said: 'Some (cyclists) were squeezed onto the grass patch... we were forced to bunch up together.' Some cyclists shouted at the driver to slow down, but in vain. The bus hit Mr Ang and dragged him for about 7m as it swerved back into its lane and stopped. According to the cyclists, Mr Ang's pelvic and left thigh region was stuck under the wheel of the bus. Said one of them, who declined to be named: 'His helmet was in pieces and his left leg was totally smashed. One of the riders who attended to him was a plastic surgeon. He told us not to touch his body.' Right after the accident, the bus driver was seen shaking his head and making calls on his cellphone. None of the passengers, believed to be tourists, got off the bus, said the cyclists. Together with the police, the SCDF arrived about 15 minutes later and rescued Mr Ang, using airbags to jack up the bus, said an SCDF spokesman. Mr Ang is now in intensive care. He is believed to have suffered severe head trauma, punctured lungs and multiple fractures to his lower limbs. The bus driver is now assisting police in investigations. Meanwhile, Mr Ang's family and friends are keeping vigil at his ward. Said one of his cycling mates: 'When we train together, he never gives up. Even when he is falling behind, he keeps pedalling, and the next thing you know, he is beside you again. But this must be the hardest race of his life.' Safety advice # Wear a helmet and check brakes and tyres. # Obey all traffic rules. # Use hand signals when changing lanes. # Have lights at night.
  20. Interesting. Reveals some performance fibs being told by manufacturers......
  21. Very interested in getting the Ssangyong Musso Sports SUT. Cabin very car-like and 2.9 TDI 5 cycl merc engine quite quiet. Price is also attractive at $60+K. Only downside is that it's a 'G' plate vehicle (even for private register) and 60km/h limit adheres. Anyone here drives a Musso or has any comments or feedback?
  22. Hi, Quick question. Is there an open list to what car is under which insurance category? Order of increasing premiums would probably be (correct me if I'm wrong) Sedan Coupe Turbo High-Performance (or something like that) But how would you know if a car is under High-Performance? Is there some sort of a benchmark?
  23. Hi owners of Camry, Solara and Lexus ES300. These vehicles are under probe in US. Check Streats 10 March Page 10.
