  1. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-62834633 Not looking too good for Queen Elizabeth with family members all rushing to be by her side. But at 96 years of age, I say she's lived a full life and it might be her time to be reunited with the late King. I hope she recovers though! The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, a statement from Buckingham Palace says Her doctors are concerned for her health, following further evaluation this morning, it says But the palace adds the 96-year-old monarch "remains comfortable" Prince Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne are at Balmoral and Prince William is travelling there Prince Harry and Meghan are also making their way to Scotland, as are Prince Andrew and Prince Edward Prime Minister Liz Truss says "the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news" The Archbishop of Canterbury said he was sending his prayers and the first ministers of Scotland and Wales joined well-wishers in sending their thoughts

  4. <Aston Martin V12 Vantage officially coming in 2022 Aston Martin’s dreamy small body/big engine combo is back, a new V12 Vantage is coming next year The Aston Martin V12 Vantage is officially on its way for the 2022 model year, with confirmation a top-spec Vantage is set to return to top the current Vantage range. Destined to follow the well-trodden and desirable path of shoehorning Aston’s most potent engine into its most compact model, the new V12 Vantage has already been spotted in its development phase and so far promises to be one of next year’s most exciting supercars. Official details are still scarce, but we do know that Aston Martin will be utilising a twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine borrowed from both the DB11 and DBS models. Peak power is unconfirmed, but we suspect given the DBS’s flagship status that power will instead reside somewhere between the DB11 AMR’s 630bhp and the 700bhp of the DBS. Like all modern Aston Martin sports cars, power will likely be sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, rather than the Mercedes-sourced nine-speed found in the new DBX. This is mostly due to its location on the rear axle, which will also help the inevitable shift in weight distribution given the considerable weight gain from the V12 engine. We also know that both Vantage and DB models are due an update in the near future, suggesting that the V12 Vantage might introduce some of these elements, some of which might have already appeared in the limited-run V12 Speedster. This might include an adoption of the V12 Speedster’s dash layout, which is completely different to both the current Vantage and DB, incorporating more touch-sensitive control elements and a larger touchscreen interface that features a newer version of Mercedes’ MBUX interface. Exterior styling should also be given a substantial update to coincide with the V12 engine, incorporating new front and rear bumpers alongside a modern interpretation of the distinctive slatted bonnet that dominated the previous generation V12 Vantage’s aesthetic. We’ll have to wait until next year to quantify these ruminations upon its reveal, but the one thing we do know is that this V12 Vantage won’t be a limited edition, but rather a final edition, as Aston Martin has since confirmed that it won’t produce any more V12 Vantages after this model’s production run is through. With tightening emissions regulations, and the push towards new hybridised powertrains in its future supercars like the Valhalla, it looks like time is being called on this most iconic of Aston Martin nameplates, but let’s just be thankful we’ve got one more generation to enjoy.>
  5. interesting..... and Scotland is likely to become independent in mid-Sept when that happens, Great Britain and the United Kingdom will become invalid (existed for 307 years already, since 1707) what will they be called then?
  6. McLaren P1 The British automaker McLaren has already confirmed that it will soon start development for the successor to the P1 hypercar. However, don't get too excited now, as the company has also mentioned that we aren't likely to see what the successor looks like within the next decade (yes, that's ten years altogether). McLaren P1 The news came along with the news that McLaren's F1 staffs had started carrying out some necessary works in the UK-based automaker's joint effort with the Japanese automaker Honda, seemingly for the sake of the 2015 F1 racing season. It was Greg Levine, the Sales and Marketing Head at McLaren, who shared the news regarding the successor to the P1. McLaren MP4-12C "The only way a car like the P1 works is by being exclusive and having a short product cycle. After that, you have to step back from the market for a few years. These sort of launches can only happen every ten years or so," commented Levine. McLaren MP4-12C Until now, the automaker is about to produce its 375th P1 and - miraculously enough, I would say, considering the very high price tag of US$1.3 million (that is around S$1.6 million) - it has received customers for three quarters of the total units of the P1 to be produced. McLaren MP4-12C Spider Now, judging that Levine mentioned that it will take ten whole years for McLaren to introduce a new hypercar, I'm guessing some of you may be wondering if the company will have nothing to offer in the meantime. Well, in this regard, the British automaker is preparing an entry level model it's probably going to slot under the MP4-12C. The entry level model is dubbed the P13. Unfortunately, there has yet to be any image leaked on the styling cues of the model. Sources inside McLaren are also keeping their lips sealed tightly for the time being. However, it is known that the P13 will more likely lean on the styling cues of the P1 than those of the MP4-12C. According to sources at McLaren, the company's MP4-12C is 'too much about technology and less about beauty' and that the P13 isn't going to suffer from the same fate. Regarding the price of the P13, it seems wise to believe that it will range somewhere around US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000) or less. I think it's safe to assume that the price won't reach US$250,000 (approximately S$314,000), otherwise it may distract the sale of the MP4-12C.
  7. You know what they say, "Do whatever you want, just don't get caught!" Unfortunately (or thankfully, perhaps), these teenage car thieves in the United Kingdom don't seem quite knowledgeable about such a saying. Instead, these thieves just seemed so proud of their 'stealing' ability that they even shot pictures of themselves with the cars they had successfully stolen. What amazes me more is that they even posted the pictures on Facebook, a world renowned social media, and on their phones! This led the local police to catch them red-handed, or should I say, 'bread-handed' (you'll see why). It's a real 'shame' to the world of Grand Theft Auto. Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, it reminds me of the action adventure packed car theft game, the latest trailer of which will be shown on 30th April 2013. Alright, let's get back to topic. To be honest with you, these teenagers, aged from 18-23 years old, were quite an expert indeed. Comprising eight members, they managed to successfully steal nine high performance sports cars that were, and still are, very expensive. Porsches, Range Rovers, BMWs, and a Mercedes Coupe worth
  8. We have seen many luxury automakers that have lent their name to daily usable products. You would have probably seen Lamborghini laptops, Ferrari headphones etc. And now, Aston Martin is the next automaker to use their name on an everyday item used by many - a baby pram. The pram is made by British company known as Silver Cross and each pram is said to be priced around 2,000 British Pounds (around SGD$3,700). The pram will be sold exclusively at luxury retailer Harrods. The pram shares several elements from Aston Martin cars. The aluminium wheels are designed to match the ones from the Aston Martin One-77 supercar. Alcantara is used to trim the seats and premium leather for the handles. The luxurious pram also receives an air suspension which provides for a smooth ride and comfortable pushing. The pram will be a limited item as only 800 units will be made and each will come with a certificate of authenticity including an engraved plaque finished in brushed chrome. Looks like some deep-pocketed parents do not have to wait until graduation to give their children a luxurious ride.
  9. Officials from the British GT3 racing series have rejected applications from Sony's GT Academy to race in the 2013 season. It seems that the drivers from the academy are just too fast. For those who are not familiar with Sony's GT Academy, it is a programme which gives video game players of its Gran Turismo series an opportunity to be a real life racing driver. The GT Academy is the promotional brainchild of Sony Playstation Europe and Nissan was brought in to aid in this programme. Every year, since 2008, virtual life racers enter an online racing competition and the eventual winners will be given a chance to prove their skills on a real life racing track. The programme has been very successful and the first winner, Jann Mardenborough, participated in the British GT series in a Nissan GT-R with racing team RJN Motorsport. Competition rules dictate that a professional driver should be paired with an amateur driver and the amateur driver
  10. The Lotus Exige S is a fast performance machine. It comes with either a 1.8-litre straight four or a 3.5-litre V6 supercharged engine and it is not surprising that many track enthusiasts see the car as a good model to hit the racing tracks. But if someone wants something more hardcore, then read on; as Lotus has unveiled two race ready Exige models which are known as the Lotus Exige V6 Cup and V6 Cup R. Both cars are based on the V6 equipped Lotus Exige S and are built to tackle both the streets and the tracks; in other words, both cars are road legal. Both cars were recently showcased at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The V6 Cup variant makes 345bhp from the supercharged V6 engine and is able to complete the century sprint in less than 3.8 seconds. The car weighs in at 1079kg and is fitted with many racing equipment such as an FIA approved roll cage and a six point safety harness. Two way adjustable suspensions and AP Racing four piston callipers are found on all four corners of the car. The car is also equipped with Lotus
  11. A British engineering company, Xtrac, specialists of high performance and race car grade transmissions, have designed a hybridised automated manual transmission (H-AMT; designated code 1010). This particular transmission design allows future luxury and performance cars to meet the 95g/km CO2 emission requirements that will be introduced by European legislators in 2020. The crucial technical part of the transmission system is the integrated electric motor. The electric motor enables the vehicle to travel at speeds of up to 152km/h on electric power alone after which; engine power kicks in. The transmission is said to be able to handle torque figures from 800Nm to 1000Nm, depending on vehicle gross weight and application. The above mentioned speed range allows torque infill up to the fourth gear during heavy acceleration and in all gears, up to the threshold speed, during low speed driving; when it is considered desirable to keep the engine revs low which will improve vehicle efficiency. The term 'torque infill' - refers to the application of additional torque from the transmission to the road wheels during the period of a gear change. In a conventional transmission system, torque is interrupted to allow the shift to complete. The ability to provide torque to the road wheels, independent of the engine, reduces the energy absorbed by the main drive clutch during the vehicle launch pull-away condition which can lead to clutch downsizing and also reduction in drive plate and flywheel inertia. This is seen as an additional benefit in hybridising an automated manual transmission. The Xtrac 1010 H-AMT is designed as an alternative to heavier and more complex dual clutch transmissions. It has lesser parts and lighter in overall weight and also offer increased functionality over single electric motor hybrid systems. Although dual clutch gearboxes do not suffer from power interruptions either, the company stresses that its products are less complex, lighter and are more efficient than DCTs. The seven speed transmission offers multiple modes of internal combustion engine and electric motor operation and with an overall ratio spread of 6:1, which is higher than most other transmissions in the market today. 12. [extract] Storied tuner and engine builder, Cosworth, is known for its involvement in performance motors and also in the Formula One. Cosworth is best known for its long affiliation with Ford but they have also worked with other automakers such as Subaru. Cosworth was a major player in the Formula One for many years but somehow their involvement in Formula One ended in 2006 when they lost the contract to supply their engines to Formula One racing cars. And now, it seems that the company
  13. Just a couple of months ago, Mini announced that they will expand their line-up with a new model and that model will be the all new Mini Paceman. The Paceman is styled as a coupe interpretation of the Countryman and it is set for a launch in the United Kingdom in March 2013. Four versions of the Paceman will be made available when it arrives, including the Mini Cooper S Paceman which will have a 0-100km/h timing of around 7.5 seconds. The seventh unique member of the Mini family will sit alongside the Hatch, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster. The Paceman has been created to appeal to a new type of design-conscious customer. The prominent horizontal lines and dynamic curved surfaces give the promise of sporting performance, yet there is an elegant simplicity to the overall form of the car. The three door Paceman is built on the Countryman platform. Bumper to bumper the car is 4,109 mm (4,115mm for the Mini Cooper S Paceman and Cooper SD Paceman), which makes it almost identical in size to its sibling. The upright front grille, complete with hexagonal radiator grille and broad chrome surround, gives the Paceman genuine presence. Its coupe-style stretched side profile features long doors, while the blacked-out pillars create a 'floating' roof concept, as already seen on the Mini Coupe. Available in either black, white or body colour, the roof gently slopes towards the rear of the car, ending at the spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the rear lights, which accentuates the car's width, is a first for Mini. The Paceman is the only member of the brand's line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate. The car's interior has been designed specifically for this model. Its highlight is the innovative rear seat, which has been styled around a lounge concept. Two individual chairs provide generous levels of head, shoulder and knee room with outstanding comfort and support. Armrests have been integrated into the rear trim. A two section version of the Mini Centre Rail storage and attachment system (first seen in the Countryman) comes as standard. Paceman customers will have the choice of four powerful four cylinder engines, two petrol and two diesel. All come with a six speed manual gearbox, or the optional six speed automatic with Steptronic function for manual control. The base model will be fitted with a 1.6 litre engine that generates around 122bhp, with a 0-100km/h timing of 10.4 seconds. The Mini Cooper S Paceman will get a similar engine but tuned to deliver 184bhp and a 0-100km/h timing of 7.5 seconds. There are also two diesel engines offered. First is a 1.6 litre unit that makes around 112bhp and the flagship diesel model will get a 2.0 litre unit that churns out 143bhp. Mini
  14. Mazda UK used an MX-5 for competition in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the MX-5 takes on established GT cars from Lotus and Aston Martin. A race at Brands Hatch in the month of June brought the first podium finish (third place) for the team and in August, the team won second place in another race. Following the success of the Mazda MX-5 GT4 race car in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Mazda UK and Jota Sport will be building customer MX-5 GT4 race cars to order for use in the 2013 season. The Mazda MX-5 GT4 is built by Jota Sport costs around
  15. When it comes to exotic sports and GT cars, many would say that the Italians make the best ones. But some would argue that the British are good at it too. Just take a look at the car in the pictures here. It is a Trident Iceni Grand Tourer. The United Kingdom has many small/medium sized sports car makers that makes unique cars for buyers who are looking for something a little out of the ordinary and Trident is one of them. The Trident Iceni Grand Tourer is a two-seater roadster with a diesel powered engine. The car is fitted with a General Motor-sourced 6.6 litre turbodiesel engine. The engine can run on regular diesel, biodiesel, mineral diesel, palm oil and linseed oil. The engine makes around 430bhp and 1288Nm of torque. Buyers can opt for a performance upgrade which increases the power output level to 660bhp and 1423Nm of torque. The

  19. Mini recently announced that the Mini Clubvan will go into production and the numerous types of engines used were also announced. The company plans to debut the production version of the car later this year and also plans to release it some time next year. But even before the general public gets to see the car, a controversy has arisen recently, concerning the Clubvan. A fifteen year old teenager from East Sussex, United Kingdom has claimed that he suggested the production of the Clubvan to Mini and he has the proof to back it up. Back in 2009, Alexander Goldsmith (12 years old at that time) wrote a letter to Mini and suggested that they produce a van and he even named it the

But as soon as it was released, many complained about the lack of power and wanted more out of it. It seems that these clamouring have not gone unnoticed because Toyota will display a much more powerful 86 at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Toyota will bring two special versions of the Toyota 86 at this year
  23. The Mazda MX-5 is one terrific compact roadster but many have commented that it is a little lacking on horsepower. The current generation delivers around 170bhp and 190Nm of torque. For those who felt that the MX-5 is a little lacking in power; would a more powerful and more sporty-looking version appeal to you? Then sit back and read on. Mazda is bringing its MX-5 GT Concept to the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed which starts on the 28th of June to the 01st of July. The Mazda MX-5 GT Concept will be on display throughout the festival on Mazda's stand, as well as taking part in the hill climb in the 'First Glance' category. Mazda is said to be debuting the car, a right-hand drive model, in order to gauge public reaction towards it. There might be a chance for the car to go into production and it all depends on the public. The MX-5 GT Concept is hugely based on the company
  24. UK off-road specialist, Bowler Motorsport and Land Rover have announced their long partnership official. Bowler has been making off-road machines which are powered by Land Rover for over twenty years and has, during that time, enjoyed a fair bit of support from Land Rover. The agreement is not the beginning of an all-new relationship between the two companies. Instead, it merely turns a decades-old informal collaboration into an official partnership. One of Bowler's early offerings was an ARC-spec prototype which uses a Land Rover chassis converted to coil springs with a twin-carb engine (pictured above). Dubbed "Powered by Land Rover," it is aimed to ensure that Bowler has easy access to drivetrains, spare parts and other crucial components to develop its rally-bound SUVs. The very first SUV to wear the "Powered by Land Rover" badge is Bowler's first ever road going model, the EXR S. Bowler EXR The EXR S is powered by a remapped version of the Range Rover Sport's supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine. It churns out 550bhp and 623Nm of torque, which is enough to propel the 1814kg SUV from 0-100km in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that features steering wheel mounted shift paddles. Exteriorly, the EXR S looks like a two door variant of the Range Rover, a model that the company has not offered for quite some time. But don't be fooled by its ordinary looks. Under that shell, the EXR S rides on a race bred hydroformed chassis. Managing director of Bowler, Drew Bowler, commented, "We're delighted to announce this partnership, which brings very positive benefits to both Bowler and Land Rover. We've only ever used Land Rover powertrains, and this relationship will give us access to current Land Rover technologies, and a great platform from which to support our racing activities and develop future models." The EXR S is scheduled to make its worldwide debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. After the debut, the EXR S will be offered to the public for
