  1. Hi guys, I am thinking of changin to this ride here. C4 Grand Picasso My main concerns are reliability, servicing costs and parts availability. Does any bro have experience with this ride or dealer and is this car ok to go ahead? Has been serviced with C&C all the while. Is there anything to look out for before I sign on the dotted line? I am considering this and a honda stream. thanks!
  2. Just like to hear any opinion: Is it ok to buy an used hyundai atos? it's a 2001 prime model, manual. mileage 170k+ anyone know whether the car has ABS? are there many such models on the road now still? also, likely to still have parts for the car or not? just want peace of mind in case needs to change anything if i should drive it for the next 2+ yr... tks.
  3. Most used-car dealers and small motor firms Channel NewsAsia spoke to are not jumping on the car leasing bandwagon, despite bigger players getting in on the act since the authorities imposed borrowing limits on vehicle purchases. They cite high costs of running a leasing business and unfamiliarity with how to do it as reasons. Still, a few are eyeing the business model as an alternative to car sales. Car leasing schemes are a mid-point between short-term rental and ownership, where you typically hold on to a vehicle for over a year and pay a monthly fee to use it. The car goes back to the leasing company after that. Not being stuck with a depreciating asset like a vehicle has drawn people to the scheme, plus the fact that a sizeable downpayment isn't needed. The government's imposition of loan curbs means buyers have to foot a minimum 40 per cent downpayment for vehicle purchases. Observers have noted that car leasing is one way of beating the curbs. Others call it an option. Eddie Ho, general manager of Sime Darby Services, said: "It's not a way to beat the government's system but it's just another alternative for motorists to consider, because there's no way we can beat the system. "Ultimately, leasing...to me is like another dish on the menu for the companies to sell." Not all motor firms are keen on leasing, since much of the onus falls on the leasing company to keep leased vehicles in order. Many companies simply don't have the resources to do it. Still, some plan to capitalise on the opportunity. CarTimes Automobile plans to starts a leasing arm in June 2013 while Yong Lee Seng Motor has been dabbling with leasing for around three years. Raymond Tang, Yong Lee Seng's director, said: "The difficulty of doing it is that a lot of follow-up, a lot of support you need to give to these consumers. Or else, the consumers will not be happy...what happens if the car breaks down in the middle of the night? You must have workshop support." Observers note that the government's "car-cooling" measures have shifted more attention to the leasing business, although it has been around in Singapore for over a decade. 4. Dear bros, sorry I did not dig up the old Mazda RX-8 thread cause the topics all did not seem very relevant. Am looking at a pre-owned, pre FL RX-8. In particular it's this one: http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...582&DL=2151 Any bros here with advice on what to look out for? I'm mentally prepared for the higher fuel consumption, slightly higher insurance and more frequent mineral oil change. Are there any obvious faults with this car after 5yrs etc? If any of the bros here happen to know the history of this car would be even better! Thank you much much
  5. There were many more dealers than buyers yesterday at used car shops, as the final weekend before loan restrictions kick in ended with a whisper. About 15 second-hand car dealers told The Straits Times that this was how it had been for several weeks, after the "panic buying" that came right after the Government's 60-day loan reprieve on certain used cars began on April 6. "There was a frenzy the first weekend after the extension was announced," said Mr Jeremy Teo, 42, a car salesman at Henly Enterprises in Ubi. He said his dealership sold almost all of its 80 eligible used cars within two weeks. The reprieve, which ends tomorrow, was granted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore after an outcry from used car dealers. It applied only to roughly 7,000 used cars acquired before the curbs kicked in on Feb 26. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...e-ends-20130603
  6. About 69 per cent of used cars eligible for full loans have been sold as of 27 May since authorities lifted borrowing limits for buying those cars for 60 days. This concession will last till Tuesday. Motor firms are bracing for uncertainty thereafter. Dealers whom Channel NewsAsia spoke with expect the market to be even quieter, with car loan curbs in full force. To help used car dealers clear old stock acquired before new borrowing restrictions were introduced, a two-month concession was given. This meant that buyers could continue taking up to 100 per cent loan for vehicle purchases. The concession applied to some 7,000 used cars. Over 4,800 have been sold so far. Classic Credit had around 180 vehicles from old stock. About 170 have been sold, but customers remain cautious. Andy Ong, sales consultant at Classic Credit, said: "It all depends, you see, on the customer preference - what they want. Because mostly for used cars, they are going for those budget cars. Talking about high-end, they should rather go for the new cars right? Because those people are those well-to-do families." Prospective car buyer Clarence Pang said: "Actually, I'm just checking out the cars, just looking at the value
  7. Ok! the gauntlet is thrown down! From the other thread, it seems there are many 'HONEST' used car dealers out there. As with all things, there must be a BALANCE! Thus, as there is a BLACKLIST on used car dealers, this would be your WHITELIST! I am starting this thread so that: 1. We can know the good ones, and for that matter, their name does and should not appear in the black list 2. MCFers know who to go to and get an honest deal with no nonsense 3. Build and possibly generate interest and revenue for the good ones, and their repute builds! I challenge those who mentioned they are honest to first state their claim. Along the way, their name should REMAIN in good standing and that will be proof of the pudding. This is a win-win and we can attest and thus see the real decorum of the industry! Disclaimer: I maintain tht and will still remain that the industry is filled with crooks, and it is my personal bias and nothing to do with me being a mod or not! In short, the only honest used car dealer to me, is a dead one!
  8. I'm looking for second hand SX4. Where are the area of the car I need carefully to check for problems? Any major problem for 2007/2008? Need to change the timing belt? Thank you in advance for any input. Best regards,
  9. Need Advice... I am looking to purchase a used Mazda 3 but is not sure how can i go about choosing a car. Am overwhelmed when i see the numerous listings in sgcarmart.. I have an idea of what i want, can experienced forumers pls help.. Am i right to the statements below?? As i am a noob in determining the condition of the car (motor n such), i will only look at cars with: 1) Full Agent Service Records (FASR) - cannot lie on millage (i prefer low millage for less wear n tear) - FASR also means regular servicing, proper recording of works done in log book - any accident / major / minor repairs be proper documented. - no unauthorized mods to vehicle I am also torn between getting a 2 yr old mazda 3 ~ 75k (8k depreciation) Vs a 5yrs old mazda 3 ~ 45k (6.5k depreciation) . For an additional of 1.5k/yr, i get a newer vehicle, i assume no need to replace leather seats, rims etc, nicer outlook, as well as a peace of mind. If i get an older vehicle, more likely of replacement for worn out parts, more days in garage, higher maintainence which will also add up... Am considering: http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=234019 5.5yrs old, red, 6.2k dep http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=207771 4.5yrs old, black, 6.6k dep http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=234021 2 yrs old, nice white color 8k dep Any comments?? Help

  13. Do you think there are unethical used car dealers who swap car parts out of trade-in cars that are very new? then resell the cars which then will have problems and recommend their workshop for repair.
  14. is this posted before? Times are bad......many dealers chut pattern........... is this the same company that 1 of the forumer dad had encounter? =================================== http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story...eaving-some-fix Christopher Tan | The Straits Times | Monday, Apr 8, 2013 SINGAPORE - At least four motorists have been left in the lurch after used-car trader Galaxy Carz closed down recently. The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) received four complaints last month against the trader in Turf City. Case executive director Seah Seng Choon said the complaints pertained mainly to consumers not getting their cars despite having made payments. Mr Tan Meng Wee, 46, is one of those affected. He got his car after paying for it in cash in mid- January. But the fund manager got a rude shock when his Volkswagen Passat was repossessed last week. "I thought it was an early April Fool's joke." Apparently, Galaxy Carz had not transferred ownership of the car to Mr Tan. It was still under the ownership of another dealer, which repossessed the car. In another case, 3-D designer Doreen Wong, 31, sold her Honda Civic to Galaxy Carz last October. The car carried an outstanding loan with Maybank. Galaxy Carz resold it to logistics executive Peter Tan, 49, without settling the bank loan. The bank is expected to repossess the car from Mr Tan soon. All three parties have been trying to reach Galaxy Carz, but to no avail. Its unit at Turf City is closed. Calls made by The Straits Times to its director Cheong Wai Keong went unanswered. The Land Transport Authority said it is investigating the cases with the police, who confirmed reports have been made against Galaxy Carz. Both Mr Tan Meng Wee and Ms Wong have also engaged legal counsel. Singapore Vehicle Traders Association secretary Raymond Tang said it was aware that Galaxy Carz had closed, along with a couple of other used-car dealers since the Government's curbs on car loans kicked in on Feb 26. But Mr Tang said: "We are not sure if they are affected by the loan curbs, or are using that as an excuse to quit." The curbs limit car loans to no more than 60 per cent of the purchase price, and the tenure to no more than five years. The restrictions sent demand diving for cars, as fewer buyers could afford the heftier down payments. This, in turn, brought certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums down. Used-car dealers bore the brunt of the curbs as stocks acquired before the cooling measures were devalued overnight in tandem with lower new car rates. The Monetary Authority of Singapore on Friday granted used- car traders a 60-day reprieve on the financing curbs to help them sell their stock. But industry players said most will still have to bear substantial losses because car prices will remain depressed.

  16. A 60-day reprieve has breathed new life into a used car market that was badly hit by drastic loan curbs. TODAY's senior photojournalist Ernest Chua visited the used car mart at Turf City last week where bustling business returned, after sales slowed to a trickle following the curbs which took effect on February 26. On April 5, the Monetary Authority of Singapore said it was lifting loan curbs for 60 days for less than 7,000 used cars. The announcement came after several appeals from used-car dealers. With the authorities making clear that the period will not be extended, several used car dealers TODAY spoke to are making use of this window to clear their stock, before restructuring their business or getting out of the line for good. One of them, who only gave his name as Philip, said: "Now you see good business, but At the end of the grace period, you will see a lot of company downsizing and some are already preparing to close down." Another dealer, who just joined the industry two years ago, said he would most likely go back to his previous job as a property agent. According to the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association, about 30 per cent of the used cars which qualify for full loans were sold within the first week of lifting the loan curbs. 17. Realise a trend now in dealers' pricing. For example, 2 almost same specs n year bmw 320, 100% loan, dealer asking 190k. PPSL selling 170k if DP 50%. Wearnes Pre Own div seems to be dropping abt 20k per car as compared to ah beng dealers who are still either holding or upping prices.
  18. Dear all, If you have recommendations of a thrust-worthy used car dealer, appreciate if you could drop me a PM. Thanks!
  19. As above. Say if AD provides a service to pick up OPC cars for servicing from owners home. Can they use trade plate on the car during peak hour pick up so that owner doesnt have to pay for e licence? Question is what if the car passes a ERP gantry? Gantry wouldnt know if a trade plate is used right? Will kena or kong?
  20. Anyone has any recommendation how to check if a used / 2nd hand car is not a lemon? I have a relative who is intending to sell his hyundai tucson and I am considering. I aware that AA provides such service, are there any alternatives? Your advice will be appreciated.
  21. Check out the ST today. It said new cars jump, whilst used cars slump! Well, i still do not feel sorry for the blokes there who run these setups. REason being, karma has finally set in. the days of aggression, cockiness, hidden details, fine prints, brudder-brudder deal, conman ship are over I suggest they take a chill pill, earn an honest living and be honest. No point screwing around anymore The gahmen did good to really put some principles into these blokes! Thanks! Now to buy my 528 [laugh]
  22. Anyone knows if Autosaver do used car evaluation? How much? I tried to call them but they are closed for CNY till next Monday. Thanks
  23. Just to share a good experience i had with a used car dealer which i am in no way related to him. sign the sales contract and took over a 2009 car in week 2 of 2013. Only verbally agreed that i will come back to him if my car got any problem with the next 2 weeks. Car was in good condition when i test drive.. call me a easy buyer .. anyway its a bread and butter car so i didnt srutinise the car maybe like other detail buyers .. Test driven once and was happy with the visual inspection.. decided to buy after some consideration. Last week, the door indicators were faulty. went down to their associated WS for repair.. but before i could make it.. realise i got a bigger problem. Coolant is empty.. after 2 refills.. must be a leak somewhere .. Alerted the dealer and he was ok i include this in the repair job today.. Guess what, he honour what was promise and got me a brand new radiator.. Phew, i was glad and really please with this dealer ..i wasnt expecting this after reading so many bad remarks about the used car business. Bros, i guess it isnt everyday we meet a "honest" fella in the used car business.. so i thought i should share this with you folks :)
