  1. New model, new fortunes? http://www.------.com/news/10767/all-new-opel-insignia-grand-sport-coming-in-q3-2017 https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2017-vauxhall-insignia-grand-sport-officially-revealed Spoke to the local dealer recently. They will have it in SG and on the road by year end... doing the tests now.. The local version will come with the 1.5 turbo petrol.. Having sat in the Vectra back in the old army days and after, I am looking forward to seeing a mid sized Opel. If they can sort out the QC and service, this will be an interesting car.. Although the dealer could not firm up a price, they did say it will be priced at the Camry range. I am guessing that means it will be in the 13x k range.. Look out CLA, 3 series and also Accord and Camry! Like the Astra, it's a lower cost alternative for those willing to try out a different car, with a conti feel and lots of features, but at a lower price range than the traditional big three German brands. And this car will be made in Germany too.. PS: not a dealer
  2. With 197bhp, 300Nm of torque and a top speed of 234km/h, a high performance version of the new 1.6-litre SIDI turbo engine will globally premiere in a Vauxhall Cascada at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The engine is one of the newly-designed Vauxhall four-cylinder SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) units and will join the existing 167bhp 1.6-litre SIDI turbo, available from its launch. The new power unit delivers 11 percent more power, including 300Nm maximum torque with overboost - 70Nm more than the comparable 1.6-litre turbo predecessor. At the heart of the SIDI turbo is a new engine block that can withstand a maximum combustion pressure of up to 130 bar in the cylinder. The block is made of grey cast iron with an aluminium baseplate. A different type of piston was also developed on top of a reduced compression ratio. Vauxhall engineers also achieved a high power output with exceptional refinement by optimising the car
  3. Came across this Vauxhall Ampera when I was watching Fifth Gear last night. Really nice electric car. No worries of running out of battery as the onboard engine is a generator, not used to power the car but to recharge the car's Li-ion batteries. 4. [extract] General Motors recently reported that its European division, Opel/Vauxhall, had posted a jumbo loss of US$747 million (no pun intended) for 2011 before interest and taxes. Although the figure is an improvement over 2010
  5. [extract] A name is something that we use to distinguish or designate one item from another. For example, in the automotive world, an auto company will give different names for their models to distinguish one model from another. So that when we see a Camry, we know it

  8. "Keep it simple, pure, and beautiful." The words of GM vice president Bob Lutz when launching the Solstice concept in the US. This was the basic requirement for Vauxhall's stunning new concept car, the VX Lightning. Being launched as a centrepiece to the company's Centenary celebrations, the VX Lightning is a two-seater roadster based on the same technical foundation as the Pontiac concept Solstice, first seen at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Vauxhall's roadster concept, however, has been designed for British tastes, at GM's UK Advanced Design Studio in the Midlands. Under the long bonnet of the VX Lightning is a new version of Vauxhall's all aluminium 2.2 ECOTEC engine, reworked with a supercharger to produce a maximum power of 240hp and 305Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is mated to the new engine, which drives the rear wheels. The chassis incorporates independent suspension, the front end using a simple and reliable strut configuration with a rack and pinion steering. At the rear, the independent suspension is all aluminium for weight saving. Overall, the car manages a near perfect 50:50 weight distribution for the best in handling and agility. Kevin Wale, Vauxhall chairman and managing director says: "The VX Lightning says everything about where Vauxhall is heading. The car represents a return to our early performance roots when Vauxhall was famous as the manufacturer of the first true British sports car - while we continue to be both innovative and bold in exterior and interior design. "We have made great strides recently in terms of our interior packaging through cars like Zafira and Signum. Vauxhall is also about pure driving excitement - just look at the new VX220 Turbo. "Ultimately the VX Lightning, as a classic roadster, represents the best of our past, and our future - a vehicle that is quintessentially British." DesignDesigned in the UK, the VX Lightning is a classically proportioned sports car with a long bonnet and short rear overhang. There are also some subtle echoes of the past, including the rollover hoops sculptured into the rear deck and bodywork which flows down into the cabin. Fitting for a car with the presence of the VX Lightning, it sits on 19inch alloy wheels at the front (fitted with 245/35 Michelin Pilot tyres) while at the rear massive 20 inch alloys are fitted with 255/35 tyres. Inside, deeply sculptured seats are finished in black and red leather, while red leather has also been used to trim the sweeping dashboard. There are currently no plans to build the VX Lightning concept, however Vauxhall will be closely monitoring public reaction to this great new car VX Lightning - technical specifications Body/chassis structure: unique GM platform, based on the Solstice, with front engine and rear-wheel driveBody material: compositeChassis material: all steel, unibody Suspension: 4-wheel independent, strut front, adjustable for rate and travel Powertrain Engine: modified, supercharged ECOTEC L850 2.2L 4-cylinderEngine displacement (cu. in/cc):134/2200Max. horsepower (hp/kW):240/179Max. torque (lb.ft/Nm):225/305 TransmissionGM T56, six-speed manual (5th/6th gears overdrive).

  11. http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_vauxhaul_vx220_turbo-1.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_vauxhaul_vx220_turbo-2.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_vauxhaul_vx220_turbo-3.jpg What is already one of the most capable chassis on the road has had further development to harness the extra engine power over the 2.2 litre 16v. A quick glance at some vital statistics confirms why the new VX220 Turbo promises to be something special: engine power output of 200 hp; 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds; 0 to 100 mph in under 13 seconds; a power to weight ratio of 4.9 kg/hp; a top speed of 151 mph. Engine The heart, quite literally, of the VX220 Turbo is the familiar transverse two-litre, sixteen valve, turbocharged engine being used to good effect in the new Astra GSi. In the VX220 Turbo however, it is installed just in front of the rear axle. It is constructed of a cast iron block and aluminium head with twin overhead (DOHC) camshafts. Maximum power from the turbo unit is 200 hp @ 5500 rpm, while engine torque is an impressive 250Nm from 1950 rpm all the way to 5500 rpm. Other differences between it and the normally aspirated 2.2 include the compression ratio (8.8:1 for the Turbo and 10:1 for the 2.2), and a reduced oil capacity, but increases in cooling capacity and battery power for the Turbo. Chassis Only minor changes have been made to the capable chassis of the VX220, to accommodate the extra power of the turbo engine. The basic principles stay the same: a super rigid lightweight aluminium chassis, double wishbone suspension, high performance brakes with ABS and unique Bridgestone tyres. Changes have been made to the spring and damper rates, which have been increased at the front and rear by 7% and 11% respectively to improve body control and high speed stability. The new tuning provides improved passenger isolation and comfort over road impacts. Standard brakes remain at 288 mm diameter discs all round but with the Turbo there is the added option of lightweight ventilated and cross-drilled discs.
