  1. Toyota has been reported to be working with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to develop a new vehicle for use on the moon. As reported by Sky News, the lunar rover will be used on their manned mission to the moon in 2030. Not much is known about the vehicle and how Toyota is involved in it, but if the information is true, Toyota could become the second automaker to put a vehicle on the moon. The first lunar vehicle was produced with the help of General Motors and it landed on the moon in 1971. Back it the day, it had four electric motors that produced 0.25bhp each and were powered by two 36 volt silver-zinc potassium hydroxide batteries. It allowed the crew of Apollo 17 to drive it for a total of 35.9 km with a total runtime of 4 hours and 26 minutes. More details about the moon vehicle is expected to emerge in a couple of weeks' time.
  2. Not sure if Toyota owners saw this. Better check your chassis number. Details are in the post. I have pasted the link from Japan Toyota as well. Affects Alphard, Vellfire, Prius, Sienta and the Triplets. https://www.hevshop.com/single-post/2018/05/27/Toyota-Vehicle-Airbag-Recall-Check-Your-Chassis-Number-Now https://toyota.jp/recall/2018/0131.html Cheers.
  3. This thread served to provide a central reference for vehicle recall issued by automotive manufacturer. For a start, I will start with something light (but still along the line hor). Case #1: Lamborghini Centenario It doesn’t matter how rare or expensive your car is, there is always a chance it could be recalled. The Lamborghini Centenario was developed to pay homage to the 100th birthday of Lamborghini’s founder. It’s based on the Aventador and is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine, generating 770 horsepower. Only 40 units total are out in the wild – 20 coupes and 20 roadsters – and apparently at least 11 of them are in the U.S. The 2017 Lamborghini Centenario is being recalled due to an incorrect certification label, which may have an incorrect weight limit. This could cause the vehicles to potentially be overloaded, increasing the risk of suspension or tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash. A total of 11 units are affected by the recall, which includes both the Centenario coupe and roadster models. The Italian automaker will begin notifying owners on how to get the correct label fitted to their exotic. Err... how much could one possibly overload a 2 seater sport car? Come on, no 1 owner will likely be using it to say transport heavy items, of for the matter of fact, use it as a cargo mover, so how can it get overloaded to the extend of having it suspension damaged?? Well, I guess that is a high SES question that low SES people like me cannot foresee. Case #2: Rolls-Royce Ghost Amid a seemingly endless run of multimillion-vehicle recalls by volume carmakers, Rolls-Royce looks to have joined an elite group for making one of the smallest. The British-based luxury carmaker was forced to issue a safety recall notice in the US because of a problem with the side-impact airbags on the 2015 model of its best-selling Rolls-Royce Ghost. The number of cars affected — one. The company, which is owned by Germany’s BMW, told the Financial Times that the issue “was due to the incorrect labelling on one of the airbags” that had been identified during the customer pre-delivery check by Rolls-Royce. The company added that at no point was there any question of a safety risk. “It is a good way of demonstrating Rolls-Royce’s attention to detail,” it said. The carmaker, which sold a little more than 4,000 vehicles last year, said the car with the fault had left its factory in Goodwood, West Sussex, in January 2014 but its North American owner had not yet taken delivery. “The affected vehicle has thorax air bags fitted to both front seats that may fail to meet the side impact performance requirements for the front seat occupants,” according to the recall notice, issued by BMW North America, through the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Rolls-Royce did not confirm which company supplied the airbags. Although the NHTSA did not immediately respond to a request for comment, subsequent data provided by the agency confirmed that among carmakers a single vehicle recall is rare. It is label again... Now, since the recall involved only 1 car, and that car was not even delivered to the customer, is there a need to issue a statement of recall for it? It is more for marketing purpose if you ask me, or maybe again, a high SES problem... ... OK, back to the topic, and on a more serious note, here are some information relating to vehicle recall, which was posted on onemotoring.com.sg At a glance - When a vehicle is recalled, motor dealers/ importers are required to notify LTA and the owners of affected vehicles. - Your motor dealer/ importer will then arrange for rectification works, if your vehicle is affected. - With the Electronic Vehicle Recall System (EVRS) you can now check the details of the recalls, and determine if your vehicle is affected. Understanding vehicle recall Your vehicle may be recalled if the manufacturer finds defects that need to be rectified. Your motor dealer or importer is responsible for informing you as well as LTA. They must also make arrangements to rectify the affected vehicles. If your vehicle is affected, your motor dealer or importer will notify and arrange rectification works directly with you. Check with your motor dealer for the latest information on vehicle recall. Electronic Vehicle Recall System (EVRS) When LTA is notified by a motor dealer or importer about any vehicle recall, the information is updated into the Electronic Vehicle Recall System (EVRS). With the EVRS, you can check: - If your vehicle is recalled (Enquiry on Vehicle Recall - Vehicle Specific) - The list of vehicles being recalled (Enquiry on Vehicle Recall - Submitted for Last 6 Months) - The status of rectification works for your recalled vehicle (Enquiry on Vehicle Recall - Vehicle Specific)

  5. hi there, starting this topic on behalf of my friend. recently my friend has rented a car from his friend that was into car rental service. he happily chose a car from another dealer and the car dealer friend was going to buy in the car to lease to him fora year . he have opted for upfront payment for 1 year contract for the car which amounted to $30000, including SOP 2 months deposit. he has received the hire agreement, and vehicle log (parf & coe rebate enquiry) to submit the Grab for private hire car use. however, the vehicle log card had a column, Dereg XX AUG 2018, Exporting : Yes Is this any normal or something my friend has to worry about? please help out my friend as he already has passed 20k out of 30k to them.
  6. Basically I wrote a feedback to LTA asking why is Vehicle Entry Permit for foreign cars cheaper when compared to current COE prices. Basically singaporeans who bidded for todays COE prices has signed up for an extremely expensive price for TEN YEARS. Foreign cars just has to pay VEP at $20/day for WEEKDAYS. It is FREE on weekends. This is the reply. I mean got reply like not reply. So what is LTA's stand???? never say anything at all. LTA is getting really bad ---------------- Dear Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify on the VEP scheme for foreign-registered cars in Singapore. The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is a scheme for foreign car owners who drive in for business and tourism reasons. For this reason, the VEP fee is levied on foreign-registered cars to mitigate the cost difference of using foreign and Singapore-registered cars due to differences in road tax, insurance, fuel, etc. The VEP fees is regularly reviewed and is currently under review. We thank you for your feedback. Regards, Irene Liew

  8. Received a registered letter from LTA informing me that an error in either the IU or the stored Value Card (Cash Card) when my car passed thru the ERP gantry. I am now required to have my IU or the Cash Card in question inspected at the IU inspection Centers. Btw, I am a user of the MOTORPAY, which means I need not to insert my cash card in the IU for payment of ERP, the ERP charges incurred would be billed to my POSB Credit Card. Has any one here experienced the same before, pls share: How long will the inspection take? Any fee charged for the inspection job? If the IU is found faulty, will they required changing to a new one or just having it repaired? Thank you for your sharing.
  9. Recently booked a new ride, it took several times (2 months) before the Euro 6 emission test passes. Now the next step is "Batch Vehicle Approval" test. Anyone can advise what is this? Cheers!
  10. Hi All Have been thinking of changing my tail lights to LED type. But my car will be due for 3 year inspection next year. Just wondering, what do they test tail light for? Is it just brightness? If the LED is bright enough (its probably brighter than stock) then its ok? Or will they know it is a modification and will result in failure? For my car, i have to trade in my original tail light to get the LED tail light so once change will be very hard to change back. Thanks for any info that you can share.
  11. i am doing transfer of name from my uncle to myself. for section C of the form (particulars of submitter), details of submitter should it be me or the vehicle owner? must the current owner be present at the point of making transfer? or can just bring his NRIC?
  12. Folks, your advice will be appreciated.. I am selling my car to a private buyer. He actually engaged a friend (dealer) to help him to arrange the finances and ownership transfer arrangement. The dealer actually asked me for my vehicle transaction pin because he mentioned that this pin is required for the bank to process my settlement and to facilitate the buyer's bank loan process. Well, I understand that the pin is necessary for ownership transfer, but do the banks need the pin to process seller's loan settlement and buyer's loan arrangements? I would thought that the pin is only required during actual transfer of ownership at LTA. I really don;t feel secured sharing my pin at this stage. Bros/sises, any experience with this matter? Thanks.
  13. Ok. So apparently "light goods vehicle (LGV)" and "goods-cum-passengers vehicle (GPV)" are different. As per LTA, LGV must be owner under a business or hawker license. https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/owning-a-vehicle/registering-your-vehicle/registration-of-goods-vehicles.html Whereas GPV can be owned personally (but same ARF as private car, and non-refundable). Also, for the 70km/h speed limit, apparently it only applies to LGV and small bus (p-plate). https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/road-safety-and-regulations/road-regulations.html https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/modifications_and_vehoffences/modification_guide/revised_speed_limit.html Note that P-plate small bus also must register under business. So does this mean that GPV does not have to adhere to 70 km/h speed limit?

  15. Hi guys, have got a theoretical scenario which i've recently heard of someone being in - it's not anyone i know, so purely academic purposes, and seeing if anyone has any ideas. So car owner currently has a vehicle, with a 50k car loan left. Take for example he's paying 1K a month. He feels that he can't afford to pay this monthly installment now, and wants to reduce the amount he pays monthly. Repricing is out of the question, as the market is homogeneous. He inquires as to the price he can sell the car at. Unfortunately, it fetches a bid of say ... 25K. He doesn't have sufficient cash to cover the additional 25K, even after selling the car. However he doesn't mind paying off the 25K in (lower) monthly instalments. What are the options open to him in this case? I know that taking a personal loan - assuming his income can support - is one option.
  16. Under what circumstances a vehicle will be towed by URA? Anyone here came across car being clamped on 3rd fine by URA (1st two fines on the same month yet to clear)? and being towed to URA premises after fail to settle the clamp fee before officer off duty on that day at 4.20pm?

  18. A new Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) will apply to all new cars, taxis and newly imported used cars with effect from Jan 1, 2013, the Land Transport Authority said on Wednesday. This followed announcements made by Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew in Parliament. Under CEVS, all new cars and imported used cars with low carbon emissions of less than or equal to 160g carbon emissions per kilometre (CO2/km) will qualify for significant rebates of between $5,000 and $20,000, which will be given as an offset against the vehicle's Additional Registration Fee (ARF) payable. Cars with high carbon emissions equal to or more than 211g CO2/km will incur a corresponding registration surcharge between $5,000 and $20,000. The CO2/km performance data for each car model will be provided on mandatory information labels at car showrooms. To encourage taxi companies to adopt lower emission models for their fleet, the CEVS rebate and registration surcharge for taxis is set at 50 per cent higher compared to cars, between $7,500 and $30,000. source: http://www.straitstimes.com/Parliament/Sto...ory_774890.html source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1187568/1/.html
  19. Will be planning a driving trip to Australia. I'm weighing the option of whether to include the 'Reduce Reliability" package from the car hirer. Generally most Car hirer will charge from AUD$3300 - $5000 excess regardless damge is your fault or not, but with the "Reduce Liabiilty: package, this excess can reduce to AUD $330-440. But this "Reduce Liability" Package don't come cheap, at rounf AUD $26 per day, for a 8 days, trip, this would mean a extra AUD$208 on car rental for peace of mind. Since I'll be buying travel insurance, I'm hoping to find one with good rental vehicle excess. So far checked AIG =$750. AXA=$1000. Tenet=$500, MSIG Premium plan =$1500. Anymore recommendations?
  20. Hi, My parked car was involved in a hit&run accident and was captured by my dashboard cam, therefore I have submitted to the TP for investigation and left my car unrepaired. I have received the closure of the investigation from the TP with a letter stating the vehicle was charged. I went on to call my insurer and asked whether can i proceed with the repair of the car damages, their answer is you cant UNLESS the other party makes a report to his insurer first, and even if the 3rd party makes a report to his insurer now his insurer may not be paying for the damages because its more than 24 hours - it will depends on the insurer T&Cs, to share its more than 2 months. So my question is - If the 3rd party decides not to make a report, can i still claim? Secondly, if he makes a report to his insurer and his insurer does not want to be involve, does it means it will be a lawsuit? Thirdly, it is a commercial van that hit my car, with the license plate am i able to find out which company owns this van? Troubled.
  21. Just about to collect a newly purchased vehicle. How can i go about checking that the car has been properly registered under my name and ID as the owner? What kinda documents should i expect to receive on collection? Any help on this topic is much appreciated :)
  22. Hello seniors and Enciks I have been looking at 2nd hand car dealer sites. I saw some are selling 5-year coe cars and it comes with 1-year official warranty and claimed that the engine has been refurbished. I am aware 5-year coe cars are non-renewable. But on the surface, it looks like a okay deal since you can drive it for 5 years? I could get a renewable car with 2.5 years left, at the same price. Does it really make any sense to buy 5-year coe cars? What are the considerations? When it means 1-year official warranty, means I could go back to distro? Sounds like a gamble.. Any inputs are appreciated.
  23. Dear friends, Do not speed on all expressway. Subaru WRX without police logo driven by Traffic police on duty with speed radar on top. SJT2213R SJU9625J SKC8475P SJG656C SJS5242S SDW7602Z SKD2941U Just got the information, dunno how true.
  24. Hi, I have a question pertaining to renewal of COE for commercial vehicle and the lifespan expiry date of the vehicle. Scenario : The commercial van's COE is expriing in Mar 2017 (van registered in Nov 1998, COE was renewed once in Mar 2007 for 10 years). The lifespan expiry date is Nov 2018. If I renew the COE in Mar 2017 by 5 years with the lifespan expiring in Nov 2018, it will mean that I must deregister the vehicle by Nov 2018. Question: 1. Can I renew the COE given that the lifespan expiry date is in Nov 2018? 2. In this case, does LTA refund back the unused portion of the COE to me upon deregistration? 3. Is it worthwhile to do so? The condition of the van is very good and it is a waste to scrap in Mar 2017. Appreciate feedback from fellow members here. I understand can call LTA hotline to check, but it is always good to hear out different opinions. Thanks !
