  1. Just watch this - I hope we live to see this major breakthrough in our life time, MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! WP
  2. This article appears on Page A36, ST 4th May Wed. It's written by a journalist turned entrepreneur. He was jailed by PAP some 30 odd years ago for writting an article for a regional magazine. PAP didnt like what he wrote.... so he was caught and sent to jail... Please read the full article. Parts of the article are quoted below:- QUOTE ...... Can it (PAP) remain in power with a clean sweep of all the seats on Saturday, denying the opposition the role of a "co-driver"? If history is anything to go by, this task will be daunting. .............. ..... The PAP may have to amend its aims and accept - if not the this GE, then in the next - that a robust multi-party with a single dominant ruling party but several responsible opposition parties in Parliment may be a more sustainable and stable prospect. ..... ...... Whatever happens, 3 myths have been debunked by this election. The First is that because the PAP has exhaustively searched the country high and low and its candidates are the best in the land, there is a dearth of talent out-side the ruling party. Therefore a robust multi-party political system is not sustainable and even dangerous because there simply are not enough capable men and women to make this work. In this election, the number of qualified opposition candidates has rendered this myth difficult to maintain...... The Second myth - favoured by the opposition, is that the PAP will do anything to perpetuate its rule, from gerrymandering electoral constituencies and creating ever-larger GRC to threats of not upgrading housing estates in opposition-held wards. .............. In this election, the noticeable generous coverage of the opposition in the mainstream media, the inclusion of previously disallowed social media as legitimate means of campaigning, ........ The younger PAP leadership has chosen to liberalise the political landscape in Singapore even at the risk of losing more oppostion seats.... The Third myth is that young Singaporeans are generally apathetic and concerned only about their narrow interests. ...................... it is very encouraging to see young people coming out and making their voices heard. ........... Singapore may be moving delibrately yet irrevocably towards a First World electorate - in an evolutionary process that may take another two or three elections over the next two decades - but one that embraces common values so that the electorate, not the political parties, demand civility, intellectual rigour and competence of all their politicians, whatever their affiliation. If all goes well, the winner in this watershed election may well be Singapore's future. ...... UNQOUTE Please read the article... it gives a big picture how may our country move forward beyond this election.
  3. These two incidents made me realise that now a days, the internet is a very powerful tool..... Things posted on the net, they had said it was only noises, can be ignored,.... but now, they have to come out officially and explain....

  7. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1125633/1/.html I scaaaaaaaaaaaaaat SINGAPORE: After the financial crisis, and after the economic rebound, the People's Action Party (PAP) leadership sees "dark clouds" ahead. No fewer than five Ministers, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, sounded the warning on Thursday as the PAP sought to build on its election manifesto of securing Singapore's future. The message to voters - said at the party's walkabouts, at its election rally and in its political broadcast last night - comes after weeks of framing the 2011 General Election as the one that will usher in a fourth-generation leadership to take Singapore to 2020. Now, the PAP has filled in the backdrop to their message of leadership renewal, and brought sharply into focus a string of global events happening as the May 7 polls approach. In the PAP's first party political broadcast, for instance, PM Lee cited the challenge of an "ever-changing and uncertain" international environment. He said: "We can see dark clouds on the horizon - the political upheavals in the Middle East, the tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, serious debt problems in Europe, and a crisis in government finances in the US. "Our neighbouring countries also face security challenges from extremists and terrorists. "All these could impact our growth, stability and security." The PAP's sketch of the global context and how it is expected to affect Singapore - "dark clouds in the next five years", Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam told reporters in a constituency walkabout - was a sharp contrast to a message that the Workers' Party (WP) has carried through for three weeks. Just as WP secretary-general Low Thia Khiang had said previously that now was the best time to buy "political insurance", his party colleague Pritam Singh said in WP's political broadcast that the time was right "to take advantage of our economic and political stability" to vote the Opposition into Parliament. The question that DPM Teo posed on Thursday night, as he spoke at the PAP rally in Buangkok, was this: "Can we be sure that the path will be smooth for us in the future? Who knows what challenges and crisis we will face in the coming years?" The experience of the last 10 years shows that the unexpected can strike, he said, citing the World Trade Centre attack, SARS and the financial collapse in developed countries in 2008. This year, Singapore's economy is expected to grow by between 4 and 6 percent, but the call for continued vigilance resounded yesterday. In his May Day message, Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong said: "There could be significant volatility in the global economy ... We must remain vigilant in monitoring these developments and be ready to respond if global growth falters." The effects are already being felt, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in the morning as he described the problem of rising costs not just as a local issue but a global one. In particular, he said the Middle East crisis could greatly impact oil prices and the lives of Singaporeans. "We talk about cost of living. That will affect us in a very drastic way if the crisis were to filter into Saudi Arabia, which is the largest exporter for oil," he said. But while the PAP sees this challenge lying in wait for Singapore, the party also believes the answers can be found in its manifesto. PM Lee said last night in its 12-minute broadcast that the PAP will create better-paying jobs, ensure that low-wage workers are not left behind, strengthen the education system for all children as well as help seniors stay active and healthy. He acknowledged current issues such as cost of living and how the Government is giving out utility rebates and the Growth Dividends from the Budget, among other offset measures. As for public housing, he said: "We're building many more new HDB flats. We promise that young families will get their flats sooner, and at affordable prices." These issues were raised at the Opposition rallies on Thursday night, as they have been in the lead up to the GE. For the PAP, the next phase of the campaign has begun. Asked on Thursday night if the PAP will keep up its message about the uncertainties of the future, DPM Teo said simply: "If you look at the next 10 years, I honestly can't predict what might turn up. This is one of the things we worry about. We spend a lot of time thinking about it, and it's a reality we live with every day." - TODAY

  10. Unit at Hougang Green hits $809 psf 11 April 2011 ChannelNewsAsia Homes in suburbs such as Simei and Buangkok are enjoying a resurgence of interest owing to their affordability and accessibility as new malls and MRT lines are built. The appreciation in the prices of such property is prompting some homeowners to cash out at a profit. In Buangkok, prices at the 99-year leasehold Hougang Green recently hit a peak of $837 psf in February when a 764 sq ft unit on the 10th floor was sold for $640,000. This comes after the launch of a new executive condominium development a few streets away
  11. I wonder what plan they on?? Must be SingHELL http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/lifestylenews/view/1121067/1/.html HONG KONG - Death is no barrier to Chinese ancestors receiving the latest gadgets, with paper iPads, laptops and LCD TVs burned at gravesides across Asia to mark the Qing Ming festival this week. Paper money, clothes, luxury cars and handbags have long been standard items for the Chinese festival, also known as grave-sweeping day, when replica offerings are burnt for the dead to use in the afterlife. The latest tech hardware joined the list of items which went up in smoke this year, with many shops selling the paper offerings saying they could not meet demand for replica iPads. "These are the bestsellers this year," said Chan, a shop owner in Hong Kong's busy Causeway Bay district, pointing at the black iPads that go for HK$25 each. "They are the latest technology. Old and young customers love them because they are the newest models," said Chan, whose shop sells a range of paper offerings, including 42-inch LCD TVs for HK$60. Another shop owner said high-tech items including iPads, iPhones, laptops and LCD TVs were sold out despite placing additional orders for the paper products. "People have been buying like crazy, it's all sold-out," said the shop owner who gave her name as Yuen. Demand was also strong in China and Taiwan for similar items. "My father was a college professor. He was open-minded and accepted new things easily," Wuhan resident Hu Yuqin, who spent 876 yuan (US$135) on a paper iPad and iPhone 4, told Chinese state media. "I think the Apple products would make him happy," said Hu. "By burning the offerings, the family want to compensate what they have not done for their beloved ones in the human world," Yean Han, director of Taiwanese shop, Spectacular Kind of Elysium Accessories, told AFP. The company, based in northern New Taipei City, sells offerings from the mundane, such as paper cosmetics and sushi bars, to the bizarre -- a Japanese-style hot spring resort which carries a price tag of 168,000 Taiwan dollars (US$5,695). Aside from paper gadgets, people can also buy replicas of pet food and chew toys for their dead pets, according to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post. In Singapore, 47-year-old Steven Foo ordered a paper private jet and other goods for his late mother. "My mother loved travelling so I got her a private Boeing jet to travel around the world," Foo told AFP. "I also got her a big bungalow, nice clothing, nice shoes, nice bags, nice sunglasses. When she was alive, she loved to travel and big houses." In multiracial Malaysia, where a quarter of its 28 million are ethnic Chinese, the festival was also observed with paper offerings including iPads, diamond rings, credit cards and Mercedes-Benz cars complete with drivers. "The Chinese believe this Confucian rite will make our dead ancestors guard us against evil forces and keep bad luck away," said George Choo, who visited the graves of his parents just outside the capital Kuala Lumpur. He was however sceptical about offering high-tech items. "iPad is a modern gadget that came after they died. I just wonder who is going to teach them how to use it," said Choo. Singaporean Robert Han said his family opted to stick to the traditional offerings of clothes and money for his late father. "For us, we stuck to tradition and gave the traditional things like money, lots of money for them to use (in the afterworld)," he told AFP.
  12. PIE was really smooth this week. aint school holidays over? Or am I missing out something?
  13. Last night chanced upon a free app (for now) as above. Found it very useful. Basically it makes your iphone work like a car video recorder with GPS logging functionality. I have been testing out a commercial recorder of $400 value and found the apps to be of much better quality, due to the good camera in my 3GS. 4G iphone should return even better performance. During playback, you can see the video together with gps location and speed, very cool. Should be good for oversea driving holidays too. But you will need to pay US$3 to get it exported from the phone, which I will gladly pay if the need arise. Try it and see if you like it.
  14. Probably by 0.5% or 0.75%. If you are thinking of buying big ticket items, factor this into your calculation. It is going to happen................... Cheers.
  15. I was trying to call Starhub to check on my bill, I waited for at least 1 hour then I managed to talk to a "very sleepy" lady customer officer, she doesn't know her job well, she said she will call me back. I waited for 2 hours, no call from her. I tried to call starhub at 1637 again, waited for 50 mins, and the line suddenly got cut off! I am very fedup with their service!!! Anyone has the same experience as well??

  18. 'My car is longer' -- car takes up entire washing bay and driver refuses to move http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ashing_bay.html STOMPer me was furious at this encounter at the car washing bay where this car took up two spaces under the excuse that the car was too long. The driver also tried to take the STOMPer's photo, prompting the STOMPer to do the same. The STOMPer said: "This inconsiderate car owner who occupied the entire washing bay meant for 2 cars, refused to move when approached. "They claimed that their car was too long but what they do not realise is that even people with bigger cars than theirs are not as inconsiderate as them. "Perhaps she thought I was blind but the lady even tried to take a picture of my car. "Luckily, I saw her from my rear view mirror, so I decided to take their picture as well. "They even have the cheek to tell me that there are other washing bays around and I should go elsewhere. "Why don't they go somewhere else first, since their car is 'longer' and needs more space!"
  19. xin ming says the 2 boys are still alive! they are 36 years old now and currently live in JB. they have become gangster
  20. supposing while driving in heavy traffic you get rear ended by another car and the impact is minor but it still can be felt you come out of your vehicle to inspect and found no damage to his vehicle and minor paint chip on your rear bumper would you attempt to push your luck and claim for respray of the whole bumper? there IS paint chip afterall and most definitely it is the other party's fault for tailgating anyway. or would you just let it pass afterall the paint chip is minimal and probably a car polish might remove the chip also if you reply no claim, if you hit somebody else in the exact same scenario, do you think that others will push their luck and try to claim against you instead?
  21. STOMPer is too young to remember that this dish was around at least 20-30 years ago. Apparently it has been unbanned in certain Canto speaking parts of the world.
  22. If you see a guy (especially Indian) who rides a motorbike with a bloody hand knocking on your window demanding you to stop and asking for tissue paper to clean the blood when you are driving a car, remember DO NOT stop the car at all. Even if he damages your car or holds the side mirrors tightly, DO NOT stop the car but drive directly to the nearest police station. This kind of criminal tactics have been reported in about 40 cases in Seremban, K. Lumpur, Shah Alam, P.Jaya and Klang Town police stations (actually around the whole country). These guys are mainly Indian gangsters, They work in a group and dare to commit this crime even in crowded areas where nobody will dare to stop the car to help you. The main purpose of this dirty tactic is to rob you and/ or even commit rape if you are female driver driving alone. Please forward this message to the people you care about. Should see how this guy drifts his delivery truck around the corners and the windy roads. To perform such stunts, thought we need cars like Evo, WRX or cars with similar setup, but I'm wrong here. http://mikeyip.com/chinas-very-own-initial...wn-edison-chen/
