  1. Men are constantly amazed by wonders - some straight from the natural world, while a good part of them are man-made. Arguably most of these man-made features serve purposes, but of course many are just 'overkill' attempts to keep themselves entertained. Think the tallest architectures, fastest machines, etc. Here we have one of the biggest machinery that rolls on Earth - Dump trucks. And it just got bigger. Capable of carrying and tugging around 496 tonnes of earth on its back, the Belaz 75710 claims to be the World's biggest in its field. To help it perform its tasks, it has not one, but two 16-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines underneath its hood (if you still consider the Belaz has one in the first place). Together, the powerplants pack a total of 130 litres of cylindrical capacity, and pump out 4,600bhp. Then, one would expect some mountain-shifting torque figure to get the truck moving - approximately 18,605Nm of them. Head to the video to see just how big this monster of a truck is. http://dai.ly/x15japq
  2. http://dai.ly/x15csdh Flash floods, seemingly, are increasingly common on our land stripped island. From the views of many pictures, and videos in some cases, we can safely say that we will never want to be in that situation. Imagine the muddy water that climbs to the height of your wheel arches and penetrates your cabin. Then, it kills your engine, and leaves you (and your car) in the middle of the road (which should look more like a lake by then) like a sitting duck. Then again, there are the more adventurous sort among us, as proven by the video. This man in Colorado met with a flash flood. However, he didn't quite believe what he saw and decided to take on the treacherous waters. Jump to the video to see who emerge winner in the end.
  3. near exit to YCK quite dramatic, judging by the skidding marks on the road  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=101533...e=2&theater btw how to embed here?
  4. http://dai.ly/x151mnc Motorsports crash scenes are one of the most popular. While we are no sadists, these scenes usually add that bit of extra spice and drama to the sports. But of course, some are more spectacular than others. Let's start by saying even by rally crash standard, this is terrifying. All we can tell is that the driver locked up his brakes, failed to negotiate a turn, went straight into the barrier - and the rest is history. Fortunately, both the driver and co-driver are unhurt from the accident.
  5. Let me get one thing straight. Personally I am not a fan of McLaren. I have nothing against the team, its Formula One drivers or the firm's awkward behaviour of naming its cars after fax machines. It's just like Manchester United vs Liverpool or Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer or Tiger Woods vs well whoever he competes with. However there are one or two things I admire about McLaren. Firstly, its futuristic, yin-yang inspired factory at Woking, U.K. Secondly, the automaker's approach to cars and the firm's obsession with implementing technology. I have mentioned a countless number of times in the blog, as much as I like cars and the science, art and engineering behind it - I like technology, gadgets and gizmos. As such I cannot think of any other automaker in this era (perhaps besides Audi) that harnesses science, technology and cars as well as McLaren. Ferrari is a front to sell road legal Formula One cars to fund their F1 programme while Lamborghini is a German engineered Italian on steroids and performance enhancing drugs. Pagani is a new kid on the block that is all about theatricality, flamboyance and art. McLaren celebrated - with pride - their 50th anniversary as a racing team. 50 years is a long time, but the British firm has only created five road going cars thus far, and all five have been blockbusters in their own right. We have the iconic and legendary McLaren F1, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the MP4-12 and 12C and now we have the long awaited and alien looking McLaren 'Designed by Air' P1. The McLaren P1, together with the Porsche 918 and LaFerrari, welcome the next generation of hypercars and motoring in general. They are from three different countries in one continent but they share a similarity - they are all hybrids. Unlike its predecessors, the McLaren F1, Porsche Carrera GT and Enzo Ferrari, they are not purely naturally aspirated. Each feature an electric motor of some sort to boost performance to an already capable internal combustion engine. http://dai.ly/x14g7to In the case of the P1, the futuristic looking vehicle is unlike anything I have ever seen. The aesthetics have time travelled 10-15 years from the future, combined with the technical limitations of today. It is powered by a substantially revised 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, coupled to a single electric motor, for a combined power output of 903bhp. Top speed is electronically limited to 350km/h, with the 0-100km/h standing start acceleration taking less than three seconds. The McLaren P1 will power from rest to 200km/h in less than seven seconds, and on to 300km/h in less than 17 seconds - a full five seconds quicker than the McLaren F1. Despite this, the P1 is also efficient with CO2 emissions less than 200g/km, and the ability to cover more than 10km in emissions free electric mode. Undergoing the final stages of testing before commencing on first customer deliveries soon, fellow self-confessed automotive and collector, Jay Leno, became the first man outside the development team at Woking, and Jenson Button, to drive the McLaren P1. The 12 minute video is pretty much split into two sections, a tour of the McLaren engineering centre that looks nothing short of a cathedral while the second part is Leno thrashing the all new hypercar on what I think is the Top Gear test track - who was gleaming with excitement every single minute of course. As mentioned at the start, I am not a fan of McLaren, but does that mean I should not be jealous?
  6. http://dai.ly/x12sed6 The all new NSX is and will be one of the most awaited supercars when it hits the showrooms - scheduled for release in 2015. And it seems that works is well underway, with the prototype caught undergoing testing at a track in Ohio, U.S.A. The NSX has no doubt achieved a tall status, worthy to be one of the all-time-greats. The halo car from Honda is one of the first proper supercars from Japan that packs the performance and dynamics to rival the bigger counterparts from the Europeans. The new version will no doubt have a tall hat to fill. To help it in its course, Honda (and its American arm Acura) will equip it with a myriad of cutting edge technologies. For instance, the new car will be 'hybridised', with two motors up front driving each of the wheels - which effectively grants it all-wheel traction. The electric motors will also supply positive or negative torque (or drag, as we know) to deliver a more dynamic driving experience than the current AWD systems. How cool is that? From the looks of it, the new car definitely has got what it takes to turn eyes - the supercar way. This, especially after being starred in one of the very cool Ironman sequential - fans of the movie will be typically fond of it. Not to mention the aural appeal - that is if there isn't any alterations done to the soundtrack (as in the video). Words from the higher management of the marque seem to point towards that of a possible Right-Hand Drive variant at some point of time. As much as we know we couldn't afford one when it touches down here in Singapore, we'd still love to see it. And that is only because we like to see all-time-greats being revived, and continuing their legend - if it does at all.
  7. http://dai.ly/x12scfx The team behind the Ken Block's Gymkhana videos (Mad Media) is back with the vengeance - this time round, more brutal and daring (almost insane) in their venture. Polaris RZR XP 1000. What is it? From the same people who makes snowmobiles and motorcycles, it is a top-of-range Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) - think of it as a special ops vehicle, and it should make your viewing more pleasurable. A 1.0-litre with 107bhp may not sound a lot to begin with, but it will propel the RZR to 50km/h in a little over two seconds, and 80km/h in just 5.3 seconds. Apparently, Mad Media has created the video as part of the campaign for the launch of the new model. The UTV featured in the video, though, has been extensively modified. The team has roped in off-road truck racer and UTV champion RJ Anderson to pilot the end product. In our eyes, the stuns are definitely more mental than before, and should send some chills down your spine while at it. Enjoy the 10 full minute of wholesome entertainment.
  8. JAKARTA - A video posted on the Internet of a toddler smoking, swearing and making lewd sexual gestures has shocked Indonesia, reports said Thursday. The short video appeared on YouTube over the weekend but was removed by the website on Wednesday for violating its terms of use, The Jakarta Globe daily reported. It showed a boy aged about four puffing on a highly toxic clove cigarette, blowing smoke rings and swearing in an east Java dialect with the encouragement of adults, who can be heard laughing in the background. Responding to questions from the adults, the child, called Sandy, said he wanted to be a thief when he grew up and spend his money on prostitutes. Sitting on a tricycle, he also said his favourite thing in the world was "vaginas" and thrust his hips when asked to simulate intercourse. Child protection officials told The Jakarta Globe that the video represented child abuse. The boy is believed to be from Malang, a town in east Java. "There should be immediate psychological and medical treatment for the little boy as it will disturb his development. He cannot be like this," National Commission for Child Protection chairman Seto Mulyadi was quoted as saying. Police were urged to launch an investigation into who posted the video

  14. This guy might own a Ferrari F430, but he clearly does not know how to record a video. Nonetheless, this rather interesting video of a young kid piloting a F430 around a (thankfully) empty neighbourhood in India with an even younger passenger who is probably his brother - has surfaced on the webosphere. As mentioned earlier, the video is really shaky - much worse than the movie Cloverfield, but after watching, I have a couple of questions - Is the father a bad parent for letting his young son drive a Ferrari? Whatever reasons the father has for his actions, I don't reckon it was a wise move to record the video. And even if he decide to, perhaps keeping it personal instead of publicising it would have been better. And aren't you guys surprised the kid actually managed to drive quite well? I mean he can barely see out of the windscreen yet he could control, brake and move over speed humps well. For me, I'm quite on the fence. I am rather surprised the kid didn't crash the car, and controlled the 483bhp car rather well. I mean when I was his age, I could barely drive proper on my PlayStation. Despite this, if the father really wanted to let his son experience the power of Italian exotics he shouldn't have recorded a video to publicise it to the entire world. You know what they say - do what you want, just don't get caught. I wonder what happens when a Ferrari employee watches the video. Maybe they should consider the kid as a young race driver. On a side note, couldn't the kid wear something nicer than that Ben 10 sleeveless tee? He is an Internet star after all.
  15. You are familiar with Ken Block's gymkhana videos where he usually wrecks tarmac in his Subaru. This time round, Monster has another video - which is equally impressive. A 850bhp Trophy Truck with 34-inches of suspension destroys the topsoil of the Mojave Desert at 241km/h an hour. Driven by 'Ballistic' BJ Baldwin, the rear-wheel driven truck sits on an NSP-1 chassis and is powered by a large 7.5-litre Chevrolet V8 engine developing 935Nm of torque with a fuel consumption of 75.8 litres per 100 km. Filmed by Tempt Media this off-road adventure would complement any Fast and Furious series with a jaw dropping moment at one point. Ok enough talk, more action!
  16. If I am the owner I also heart pain when the sound of the impact was heard From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...g_mercedes.html Posted on 21 Mar 2013 Caught on camera: Driver flees after hitting Mercedes at carpark STOMPer Wayne's Mercedes was damaged after another car knocked into it at a carpark. The driver fled, but the entire incident was captured on the STOMPer's car camera. He managed to locate the culprit's car in the same carpark, but the police have not been able to contact the owner. The STOMPer said: "This happened at about 3am this morning (Mar 21). "The camera in my car filmed the driver of this Toyota Wish hitting my car, then driving away. "The front bumper, light and Mercedes logo were damaged. "The back bumper was also damaged because my car shifted backwards from the force of the impact. "I made a police report, and managed to find the culprit's vehicle in the same carpark. "The police attempted to contact the owner of the car, but were not successful. "A witness came forward and said the driver of the Toyota Wish was a woman." Watch driver flee after hitting car
  17. This year's Geneva Motor Show was a dream for many petrolheads, thanks to the presence of a new McLaren and a new Ferrari hypercar, a new Porsche GT3, a new Alfa and a crazy Lamborghini.. thingy.. I'm sure you guys know Chris Harris from the Drive channel, who was fortunate enough to visit the show. Besides his opinion on some of the show cars at Geneva, je gives us a review of the facelifted E 63 AMG. Oh and did I mention he dislikes the Veneno?

  19. Cliff Notes: Performance on a complex higher-level math test (PSAT) was positively correlated with activity in the part of the brain governing immediate fluent recall of very basic math (single-digit addition/subtraction). It was negatively correlated with the need to use "higher-order" thinking parts of the brain. Interpretation: The facile conclusion may be that this is not surprising: people who've practised math to the point that they basically just immediately recall (by recognition) all the basic stuff do better at math tests because of all the practice they've put in. But I think it has implications in the way young children are taught math in our schools. Singapore math used to be about "drill and kill", emphasising quick fluency in very basic mathematical skills. But now it's gotten sidetracked with all the "abstract-thinking", "model-drawing", "word-problem solving" claptrap. The problem is that the consequences of this pedagogical shift may only be apparent in a decade or so. Singapore used to be lauded as one of the countries with the very best technical subject (including math) education. People loved to use our textbooks (maybe they still do, but on the strength of past glory). Now, by changing our time-tested methods, are we risking our children's future?

The D Show is an annual event hosted by the Adcraft Club of Detroit dedicated to judging and awarding creativity in Detroit. Entries are submitted by advertising agencies and reviewed by judges from within the advertising industry. "It is great to see a video that was created on a shoestring budget and not intended to be shown on television, receive prestigious accolades like the D Show 'Best TV Commercial' honor," says Olivier Francois, Head of Fiat Brand Worldwide and Chrysler Group LLC and Fiat Group Automobiles Chief Marketing Officer. Seduction was created in partnership with the Dallas-based 'The Richards Group' and stars supermodel Catrinel Menghia. In the US, the mini hatchback is offered with a 1.4-litre Multi-Air turbocharged four-cylinder that is rated at 160bhp and 230Nm of torque.
