  1. This is not an April Fool joke! Let see how this full size MPV will fare against the Lexus LM and Mercedes EQV. What started off as a wild rumor at the beginning of the year will become a reality in a matter of months. Yes, Volvo is preparing to launch its first-ever MPV, which it describes as being a "Scandinavian living room on the move." Known as the EM90, the Swedish family hauler "creates room for your life" and will break cover on November 12 when the order books will open in China, the home of parent company Geely. Instead of a product direct from the R&D centre of the Swedish brand, the EM90 is likely to be based on the Zeekr 009, a wild-looking minivan from one of Geely's many brands.
  2. This compact electric SUV will be even smaller than the XC40, with an estimated dimensions of 4.2m (L) x 1.8m (W) x 1.6m (H). Design wise, the line between products from Volvo and Polestar is getting blurry, and can see that the rear windscreen is very narrow (by SUV standard), again compromising practicality for aesthetic appeal...
  3. Volvo is pretty renowned for how safe their cars are. The brand’s models qualify for the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS (International Institute for Highway Safety) and there's tons of airbags to protect the car's occupants no matter the point of impact. Nonetheless, this driver’s behaviour still isn’t advisable. What happened? On 1st May at Thomson Road, a camcar was minding their own business when a Volvo V40 tried to merge from a minor road to the major road that the cam car is on. It is unclear what was the Volvo driver’s thinking process but it had to be influenced by something (probably starting with A) in order to think this was a good idea. The Volvo driver went across not one, not two, but three lanes before stopping just in time to avoid kissing the wall and expensive repairs. According to the Facebook post, a bus also needed to jam brakes along with the camcar. It’s a shame there’s no audio in the footage because I know it’d be colorful. The Volvo then drove off without a word, but likely with stained pants. Online chatter Once again, the standards of our driving school are called into question. Others asked if the driver had a license at all. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. This is supposedly the 3rd generation XC90, which Volvo decided to give it a name change to signify the switch to all electric drive train. Earlier reports, however, suggested that the model, which it is said will blend SUV and sedan design elements, will be named Embla, after the first woman in Norse mythology. Next-Gen Volvo XC90 EV Design Allegedly Revealed In Patent Images In any case, Volvo announced in February that it would be keeping the XC90 around for a few more years. The SUV that heralded the brand’s modern revival will continue to be produced in Torslanda, Sweden, after a visual update.
  5. Most people in Singapore purchase an SUV for its spacious body rather than its utility. And that makes sense as it is almost impossible to put an SUV to the test in a city environment such as Singapore. However, a particular Volvo driver did just that. Watch it here: What Happened? A recent Channel News Asia news article reported that "Heavy traffic through Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints expected for the rest of June: ICA". And truth be told, that was exactly what a Volvo XC40 driver experienced. After getting impatient with the long wait, he decided to perform a 'u-turn' (which is obviously illegal). Leveraging his SUV's ground clearance, the Volvo driver mounted the kerb and proceeded to make a 5-point turn to get himself out of the standstill jam. NGL, I am pretty amazed at the Volvo driver's attitude to performing whatever he did in the video above. Some possible reasons for his actions are: 1. Forgetting to bring his passport 2. Need to use the toilet urgently 3. To escape the heavy congestion 4. Got fuel check + his petrol tank below the mandated 3/4 tank What do you think made the Volvo driver perform the 'u-turn'? Netizens' Comments At most pay the fine for his illegal u-turn lor. LOL. When the phrase "I at custom liao" have more than one meaning to it😂 ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/569280/2022-volvo-s60-black-edition/ Volvo is the latest automaker to go dark, and by that, we mean offering a special edition model festooned with all kinds of black trim. The Swedish brand doesn't pull any punches, either, choosing to call its newly darkened sedan the S60 Black Edition. Simple name, simple upgrades; hard to find fault with that. As the name suggests, the S60 Black Edition wears plenty of black trim on the outside, starting with the grille surround and Volvo badging in the middle. Moving to the side you'll find black window trim and side mirrors, but the major update comes with the wheels. The Black Edition gets an exclusive set of 19-inchers with a gloss black finish, and there's more black trim at the back with the Volvo lettering on the decklid. Even the exhaust tips are blacked out for this special model. Volvo doesn't mention any special updates for the interior, but the S60 Black Edition is offered in just two exterior colors. Crystal While Metallic offers a sharp contrast with the black trim, or for those who truly want the darkest Volvo of all time, Onyx Black Metallic creates a monochrome look. The Black Edition is purely an appearance package, so all the S60 mechanicals under the skin remain the same – a boosted 2.0-liter four-cylinder working with some measure of electric power that offers up to 415 horsepower (309 kilowatts) in range-topping PHEV trim. "The design of the S60 Black Edition evokes a passionate response across the company," said Eric Beak, Volvo USA head of design. "We’re very proud that the Black Edition has been designed here in the US and will be built by our US team in South Carolina."

    2022 Volvo XC60

I got 2022 XC60 B5, the facelift comes with Android entertainment system, I like the new system than the old one in my previous 2018 XC60, specially on the more practical navigation system - Google Maps. But there is a big downside - no road signs info for Singapore! No speed limit sign, no speed camera sign/warning, no school zone sign... Can't believe it is totally unavailable in the latest Volvo car model as it seems to be a basic feature in a car system nowadays. Is this Volvo or Google's problem?
  8. Is the Volvo really 'suey' or is this just karma hitting him? In this video, a cam car tries to turn into a busy main road along Changi. Situated behind him, a white Volvo follows closely behind. The white vehicle creeps closely behind when the cam car driver enters the main road through a yellow turning box. Due to the heavy traffic condition, the cam car cannot entirely turn out and remains in the box while waiting for the green light. Noticing that there is still space in the box, the Volvo driver enters beside the cam car. As the light turns green, vehicles from all lanes start to accelerate. The cam car turns into the second lane while the Volvo tries to cut to the very first lane. This, however, proves to be a disaster as an oncoming Fuso truck fails to slow down in time and T-bones the Volvo. This shocks the cam car driver, who let out a ‘Woah, woah!’ at the end of the video. Who is at fault here? Before moving off, drivers should check their mirrors and blind spots to ensure that the road is clear. Drivers of heavy goods vehicles must also have additional blind spot mirrors or devices installed to better detect pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other motorists who are in their blind spots. These blind spots include the sides, rear and front of the vehicle. If the truck driver had been attentive enough, he would have noticed the white Volvo entering the yellow turning box, extending to the lane he was in (aka the second lane). On the other hand, one could argue that the Volvo driver should not have entered and stopped right in the truck’s blind spot. Additionally, his intention was to cut to the first lane when the yellow box only extends from the second to the fourth lane. By entering the box and waiting for traffic to clear up in the first lane, the Volvo driver is equally at fault for causing an obstruction to traffic (which is an offence, according to the Highway Code). If the truck driver had checked his blind spots and the Volvo had turned into the third lane, this accident could have been completely avoided. Netizens’ reactions Some netizens were not impressed with the Volvo driver. This exchange accurately explains the entire situation (including who is at fault). This guy manages to find a silver lining to this unfortunate incident. ========= Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! Simply WhatsApp us ➡️https://bit.ly/3c6JERA
  9. Another boxy looking concept car which reminds me of the 2nd and 3rd generation Honda Odyssey... For Volvo Cars, electrification is more than simply a shift in powertrains. It represents a new paradigm in car design and the Volvo Concept Recharge is a manifesto for the next generation of all-electric Volvos. True to the heritage of Scandinavian design, Concept Recharge has the mantra of 'less but better' at its core. For example, by removing the complexity of the internal combustion engine, the designers have been able to evolve the car's proportions to increase interior space while also improving aerodynamic efficiency. The result is a car that offers genuinely better solutions to support a sustainable family life. Volvo’s first generation of electric cars shares a floor with combustion engine-powered cars, which requires a balance in proportions and space to be able to accommodate both a battery pack and an internal combustion engine. The next generation of Volvo’s fully electric cars – the first of which is the company’s first SUV on a completely new electric-only technology base – will feature flat floors, as previewed in the Concept Recharge. By removing the engine and replacing it with a full battery pack under the flat floor, the designers have extended the wheelbase and the wheel size of the car. The result is shorter overhangs, as well as a lot more interior space including a large storage area between the front seats. In the Concept Recharge these advancements have led designers to reposition the seats, optimise the roof profile and lower the hood of the car while retaining the high eye point beloved by drivers of cars like the Volvo XC40, XC60 and XC90. This approach creates efficiency gains in aerodynamics compared to a typical SUV, which improves range. This concept car also introduces a new Volvo design language. Continuing the theme of 'less but better', all unnecessary elements have been removed and what remains is treated with a high-precision, flush execution. The traditional grille has been replaced with a shield-like structure, supported by a new interpretation of Volvo Cars’ Thor’s Hammer headlight design. These include the latest HD technology-enabled pure graphic which open at night to reveal the main lamp units. Signature vertical rear lamps connect to the brand’s strong design heritage, but are reimagined with a set of wings that extend at higher cruising speeds to further improve overall aerodynamics. “Our Concept Recharge represents a manifesto for the all-electric future of Volvo Cars, as well as a new type of vehicle,” said Robin Page, head of design. “It displays new and modern proportions that go hand-in-hand with increased versatility and shows what technology can enable in terms of design.” The Volvo design language also takes a new form inside the Concept Recharge. The flat floor provides more space and a better seating position for all those inside the car. A large, 15 inch standing touch screen is the centre of a new and improved user experience for the company’s next-generation connected infotainment system. Designed to be logical and intuitive to use, technology helps provide a serene and calm experience. The latest infotainment technology goes hand in hand with those other hallmarks of Scandinavian design: clean lines and extensive use of sustainable and natural materials inside the cabin. “Inside the Concept Recharge, we create a truly Scandinavian living room feeling,” said Robin Page. “The interior integrates our latest user experience technology with beautiful, sustainable and natural materials. Each part of the interior is like a piece of art and could stand alone as individual furniture in a room. We use the latest technologies but not for their own sake. We always focus on the benefits that technologies can bring.” Finally, the Concept Recharge also reflects Volvo Cars’ safety ambitions in coming years. A LiDAR sensor, built by technology company Luminar and a critical part of Volvo Cars’ plan for forthcoming safe autonomous drive technology, is placed in an optimal position on the roof to collect data on the environment around the car. “With the Concept Recharge we continue the rich roots of Volvo's design DNA in a modern and fresh way as we move into our all-electric future,” concluded Robin Page. “It represents everything we believe customers expect from a pure electric Volvo and we’re excited to take this philosophy into our next generation of cars.”

  11. Need a new chair for your home office but don't want a Secret Lab chair like most people do? Check out this very familiar-looking chair that you can now buy at a starting price of $100. Thanks to a local company that specialises in scrapping vehicles, you can now own a part of our public buses that have been prowling our roads for the last 10 or more years. The company, Kim Li Huat, posted this simple and sleek Volvo B9TL CDGE chair that has been blessed with a new base on their company's facebook page, saying that if you wish to buy in bulk, the price even can be lowered. For those who wonder where these seats came from, a quick search on the web showed that these Volvo buses have been plying on our roads for about 15 years (out of their 17-year statutory lifespan) and had their interior refreshed less than 3 years ago before they were taken out of service. 12. Volvo Cars Gives Global Employees 6 Months’ Paid Parental Leave On top of financial responsibilities, the most challenging part of having a baby might be taking care of them while juggling work. For over 40,000 employees of Volvo Cars worldwide, 6-month paid parental leaves await from 1 Apr 2021 onwards, the car manufacturer announced on Tuesday (30 Mar). Eligible individuals should have at least 1 year’s service under the company. In doing so, Volvo Cars aims to champion gender equality in the realm of parenting. Volvo Cars introduces 24-week parental leave On 30 Mar, Volvo Cars announced its ‘Family Bond’ policy granting employees 24 weeks of parental leaves. Effective from 1 Apr 2021, over 40,000 employees are eligible worldwide, including Singapore, provided they have minimum 1 year’s service. The leaves are paid with 80 percent of employees’ base salary, and are applicable to either parent within first 3 years of parenthood. The policy takes inspiration from the brand’s home market – Sweden – where both parents have a total of 480 days’ leave by law. Volvo Cars hopes to achieve equal parenting for all genders By introducing the ‘Family Bond’ policy, Volvo Cars hopes to encourage more men to take up parental leaves. It helps to narrow the gender gap when it comes to parenting, and supports equal parenting for all genders. By setting the 6-month parental leave as the ‘default’, more employees are likely to take it up, as the company’s earlier pilot suggests. This comes amid societal expectations of fathers being in the workplace. Social pressures as such keep men from taking longer leaves to care for their babies. Therefore, Volvo Cars hopes to set a global precedent in the industry to promote equal parenting. As such, the policy applies to all legally registered parents, including adoptive, foster and surrogate parents. Non-birth parents in same-sex couples are included too. Kudos to Volvo for setting a new standard This move by Volvo Cars certainly sets a new standard worldwide in terms of parenting and gender equality. We applaud the carmaker for its family-oriented and people-centric values. Getting fathers more involved in parenting has been an issue of concern in many countries, including Singapore. Therefore, we hope that policies as such might steer our society a step closer to achieve equal parenting for all genders. Source: https://mustsharenews.com/volvo-parental-leave/
  13. Volvo Cars bets on electric vehicles Volvo Cars is only going to sell electric vehicles by 2030, the Swedish firm has said. It will phase out all car models with internal combustion engines by then, including hybrids. The carmaker is also planning to invest heavily in online sales and simplifying its products. It is trying to capitalise on growing demand for electric cars, including in China, which is already one of its biggest markets. Carmakers are also responding to pressure from governments around the world to beef up their electric car plans. New cars and vans powered wholly by petrol and diesel will not be sold in the UK from 2030, for example. "To remain successful, we need profitable growth. So instead of investing in a shrinking business, we choose to invest in the future - electric and online," said chief executive Hakan Samuelsson. Its online push means customers will be able to order cars to their own specification online, but also through a dealership. Volvo will not be investing in cars with hydrogen fuel cells, as it does not think there will be enough demand from customers. There is also a question mark over hydrogen's availability in comparison with charging points for electric cars, a spokesman said. Volvo previously announced that by 2025, half of its sales would be fully electric, with the rest being hybrids. "There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine," said Henrik Green, the firm's chief technology officer. In February, Volvo abandoned plans to merge with Chinese car giant Geely. But the two companies said instead that they would form a partnership to make components for electric cars that would be used by both firms. Global carmakers continue to pursue alliances to spread the cost of the transition to electric cars, tougher emission rules and autonomous driving, as well as pooling expertise and resources. In January, shareholders approved a merger between Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA Group, creating the world's fourth biggest carmaker. The new group, Stellantis, would be able to "bet big on new innovations in electric, connected and autonomous vehicles", analysts said at the time. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56245618
  14. Now, forgive me if I'm not making sense here, but isn't it common sense to go a little slower in underground car parks, where the road is a little slippery and it makes your tyres screech like a banshee at every 90 degree corner you have to make a turn at. Especially at the exits and entry lanes, where the road is narrow and there are humps every few metres to deliberately keep your speed low. So, please tell me how an accident like this could happen, as per the video below. This accident happened yesterday, and this video is actually taken by me as I witnessed the aftermath of the accident as I was leaving IKEA Alexandra around 4pm. According to a friend who left earlier than I did, this accident definitely happened before 3.35pm, and Singaporeans being Singaporeans, it obviously did cause a bit of a wait to leave the car park because everyone was slowing down to gawk at the accident and possibly to take down the licence plate numbers to... buy... 4D..... (why, people, why? That's just schadenfreude) So as you can see from the video, the Volvo somehow managed to hit both Volkswagens (2-for-1), the first car being clipped in the right rear quarter while the second car, was, well, kissed pretty hard in the front. From what can be seen of the Volvo, it doesn't look too good for it either. The front left wheel seems to be partially dislodged and who knows what's going on with what isn't visible to the camera. Fortunately for the Volvo driver, in spite of their inability to drive properly in a car park, Volvo has invested tons of money into making their cars really safe, as seen here, here, here and here. Unfortunately, I don't think Volvo has figured out a way to account for a less-than-attentive/capable driver who can't concentrate in a narrow car park and ends up causing a proper headache for everyone involved. All in, the damage to all three cars look to be pretty bad. But the only thing worst than this accident was the line of cars along Alexandra Road that couldn't enter the IKEA carpark because this accident had basically blocked off the only way to get down into the car park. I didn't get footage of that, but I don't envy the IKEA staff member who was standing in the hot sun explaining to irate drivers why they couldn't enter the car park. Here's hoping that guy didn't have it too bad, because we all know how Singaporeans can get if they aren't queuing for something they enjoy, like bubble tea or bakkwa. An ambulance was seen arriving just as I was leaving, so here's hoping that if anyone was injured, their injuries were minor, and let's all practice safe and attentive driving not only while on the roads, but in car parks as well. Especially on Sundays at IKEA, because there are waaaaaay too many people there already and the last thing we all need is for someone to lose their temper over something trivial.
  15. Hello nieces and nephews, Uncle Koba here! And Fuiyoh! This morning we have a very alert driver that is driving a very competent car that helps him dodging away an accident. So here the short clips that are uploaded by Road.sg Let's watch it first. Your-Facebook-Video-fbdown.net.mp4 Very impressive. I really thought he cannot make it for the stop. Phew. So. Let's go find out this car specs. I have found an exact same colour as the Volvo V60 on the video. However, there is a few variants which I cannot see from my naked eyes. The curb weight is quite reasonable (heavy). And to top it off, the car is only putting out 120bhp. Very good. Slow car saves lives. Okay. let's read some comments. Nowadays everything needs safe distancing. Very good. Okay. That's all for today! Thank nieces and nephews! Stay safe! *And keep a lookout for any Jeep while you are on the road. 😁
  16. i wonder who dares to put out such disparaging car experience in Singapore. PS. Most common conti models are assembled locally in Malaysia (CKD).
  17. If you drive a Volvo, you're paying top dollar for safety. The XC60 is the Volvo with the most safety features packed into it, making it the "safest car in the world." Then you have this XC60 Uncle who confronts another driver without wearing a mask. All that safety becomes moot. Here's the video that the dashcam driver uploaded on SG Road Vigilante (XC60 uncle comes out from the car at about 0.30) Salty dashcam driver It honestly looks like dashcam driver wasn't too pleased with XC60 Uncle making a U-turn even though XC60 had ample time and space to do so. Dashcam driver (clearly salty af) chases after the XC60 and cuts into its path dangerously at a traffic junction. He even removed the audio from the video so you can't hear him sound his horn or curse at the start of the video. Read the comments later. It backfires against him. What Covid-19 safety measures? Moving on to the angry XC60 Uncle. It’s understandable that when you’re angry, you do things out of impulse. However, the new Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act clearly states that The Straits Times Most Singaporeans are doing their part to bring the country back on its feet again. So please don’t be a CB during the CB, no matter how angry you are. Comments from netizens (even the Volvo Driver!) THE VOLVO DRIVER RESPONDED TO THE VIDEO! Eh, but seriously, should have worn a mask lah. It would be quite sway to get charged for a different offence from the original accusation. Good luck XC60 Uncle!
  18. Looking for an SUV that can do it all? Well you're in luck as we have a video review of the Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in hybrid! We go through the clever, understated looks of the XC60... And Julian gives Jon quite the stern lecture on Volvo's electrification strategy haha! The XC60 has an excellent cabin design, but no points for guessing what Jon is displeased about with here! Jon also delivers some interesting ideas about the layout of the rear seats! The XC60 T8 is a well-rounded SUV that delivers plenty of power and the additional option to save on fuel by plugging into a charger! Curious? Learn more from our full video review here!
  19. SUV success drives Volvo Cars to sixth straight sales record and beyond 700,000 cars source: https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/media/pressreleases/261377/suv-success-drives-volvo-cars-to-sixth-straight-sales-record-and-beyond-700000-cars Volvo Cars has set a new, sixth consecutive global sales record in 2019, breaking the 700,000 cars sold mark for the first time in its 93-year history. The company recorded sales of 705,452 cars in 2019, an increase of 9.8 per cent compared to 2018, solidly outgrowing the overall market across all regions. The new sales record is underpinned by continued strong demand for Volvo Cars’ award-winning line-up. Its three SUV models served as a particular highlight as the company gained market share in China, the US and Europe amid stagnating car markets. The company also registered strong demand for its electrified vehicles, both in terms of registered sales as well as in retail orders. Overall, Volvo Cars sold 45,933 plug-in hybrid models in 2019, an increase of 22.9 per cent compared to 2018 and more than double the number in 2017. “I am very pleased to see that for the first time in our history we sold more than 700,000 cars, while we gained market share in all our main sales regions,” said Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive. “We aim to build on this positive trend in 2020 as we start to roll out our Recharge range of chargeable Volvos.” Illustrating the strength of its portfolio and its sales performance in 2019, Volvo Cars surpassed the previous full-year sales record of 642,253 cars, set in 2018, nearly a full month before the end of the year. December was the company’s best ever sales month, with an 23.4 per cent year-on-year increase to 74,239 cars sold. In China, Volvo Cars sold 154,961 cars in 2019, an increase of 18.7 per cent compared to 2018 and comfortably outperforming the overall market. The result is an all-time record for Volvo Cars in China and the highest sales number it has ever reached in a single market. In the United States, Volvo Cars sold 108,234 cars, breaking the 100,000 cars sold threshold for the first time since 2007. Compared to 2018, sales increased by 10.1 per cent. In Europe, sales were particularly strong in Germany, where the company sold more than 50,000 cars for the first time in its history, while it realised its best sales result since 1990 in the United Kingdom. Other markets that recorded their best ever sales performance in the company’s history included Australia, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Korea, Poland and Portugal. The XC60 SUV continues to be the best-selling car for the company globally, followed by the XC40 and XC90 SUVs, while the sedans and estates in the 90 and 60 Series also contributed to volume growth in China and Europe respectively. This year, Volvo Cars will start to roll out its Recharge line-up in markets around the globe. Recharge will be the overarching name for all chargeable Volvos with a fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Recharge car line aims to further boost sales of Volvo Cars’ chargeable cars and encourage plug-in hybrid drivers via incentives to use Pure mode as much as possible. Volvo Cars aims for plug-in hybrid cars to make up 20 per cent of total sales in 2020. Every Volvo model includes a Recharge option, from the small XC40 SUV via the 60 Series cars to the large XC90 SUV flagship. Volvo Cars is the only car maker to offer a plug-in variant on every model in its line-up. Soon, buyers can also opt for the XC40 Recharge P8, Volvo Cars’ first fully electric car.
  20. ComfortDelGro buys four buses with collision-prevention system source: https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/comfortdelgro-buys-four-buses-collision-prevention-system Transport operator ComfortDelGro has bought four Volvo buses fitted with collision warning and automatic emergency braking. The buses, the first of their kind here, will start plying routes from Sunday as part of ComfortDelGro Bus' unscheduled bus services. The Volvo B8R 49-seaters are equipped to brake automatically and come to a stop if they ''sense'' a collision is about to take place. A radar-based sensor and a camera are activated once the bus accelerates past 15kmh. When a potential collision with another vehicle is detected, the system alerts the driver through a blinking red light on the dashboard and a beeping sound. If the driver still does not respond, the system immediately initiates soft braking before applying full braking power to bring the bus to a complete stop before any collision happens. The system also comes with a lane-keeping assist function that alerts the driver when the bus veers into other lanes. Such safety systems are increasingly common in passenger cars but are making their way into heavy vehicles now. Mr Pang Weng Heng, chief executive of ComfortDelGro Bus, said the system is a ''safety enhancement that will help our bus drivers avoid critical situations and accidents''. ComfortDelGro Bus plans to buy more of such buses over the next two years. Six of its drivers have undergone training to familiarise themselves with the new safety feature. On the latest purchase, ComfortDel- Gro spokesman Tammy Tan said the features cost $5,000 to $8,000 a bus, or roughly 1 per cent of its cost. ''There are plans to purchase 11 more of such buses over the next two years,'' she added, noting the Volvos are also equipped with reverse proximity sensors and reverse cameras. ComfortDelGro Bus tested the buses for a month and will deploy them as part of a shuttle service. Ms Tan said no special skills are required to drive them, but drivers need to familiarise themselves with the system and the alerts. When asked if it plans to equip public buses with similar features, the Land Transport Authority, which owns all public buses here, said up to 400 of its buses are likely to have some form of collision warning system by 2040. That is less than 10 per cent of the current fleet of public buses here.

  23. Hello everyone, I am starting a AMA thread just for discussion purposes.Possibly to help answer some comparison questions between cars I have driven before, from my individual perspective. (Not a show-off thread - as I am not financially strong enough to own a car). A bit of background, I been a seasoned driver, been driving regularly for the past decade. I have never owned a car before, but I am blessed to have the opportunities to drive my friends and relatives' cars on a regular basis, or sometimes. I also took some time off to test drive some sedans recently as I am contemplating on getting one. So far, I have driven the following models regularly before: Kia Cerato Forte SX 1.6L 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6L Toyota Wish AE10 1.8L Toyota Camry Prestige XV40 2.0L BMW 216i Gran Tourer Diesel-powered BMW 316i F30 BMW 520i E60 XL BMW 523i F30 Audi Q5 8R 2.0T 2019 Mazda 6 2.0L Standard 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.0L Premium I have already managed to clock limited miles on the following cars: 2019 Kia Cerato Forte SX Honda Civic 10-Gen 1.6NA Hyundai Avante S 2019 Mazda 3 HB 1.5L Premium Volvo S90 Happy to answer any questions with respect to interior, exterior, performance and feel of these cars. Cheers.
  24. You probably know a bit about Polestar by now – the racing team that became Volvo’s tuning arm, that became a standalone electric performance brand in 2017. You might even have gazed longingly at the company’s first car, the Polestar 1, a 600bhp plug-in hybrid coupe costing €155,000 and limited to 1,500 units. But frankly the 1 is just eye candy - in Polestar’s masterplan, the 2 is the one that matters. This is Polestar’s Tesla Model 3 rival, and it’s not shying away from the fact either, name-checking the Model 3 in the fourth line of its press release. And why wouldn’t you? Tesla is close to selling 500,000 a year of its first, truly mass-market EV because it offers a range of over 300 miles, it’s fast, it appeals to tech lovers and it’s relatively affordable. Polestar has been taking notes. The 2 is an all-electric, 4WD, five-door saloon-shaped hatchback – or ‘fastback’ according to Polestar - with a 311-mile range from its 78kWh battery, 402bhp and a 0-62mph time of less than five seconds. By comparison the long-range, AWD Model 3 (that’s not the 444bhp M3-rivalling performance version, by the way) has a 338-mile range (the longest of any WLTP certified EV) from its 74kWh battery, 341bhp and 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds. Spot any similarities? Not that we’re complaining you understand… And then there’s the price. The launch version of the Polestar 2 (the only one available for the first year of production, which starts in early 2020) costs €59,900, although Polestar will offer a subscription-style plan (prices TBC) that includes one monthly payment to cover everything except charging. The long-range, AWD Model 3 starts at €58,800. The Model 3 looks a bit generic, the kind of car a 10-year old might doodle, the Polestar is much sharper – all taught creases and Swedish minimalism. The Volvo fans out there will have spotted this is almost identical to the Volvo 40.2 concept from 2016, except for the addition of smaller, more aero efficient, framelesss wing mirrors - a Polestar patent, no less - and a full width light bar at the back.
  25. Polestar has taken the next step in its development as the electric performance brand with the reveal of the new Polestar 2. Polestar 2 is the new all-electric fastback that brings electric performance cars to a broader and increasingly progressive audience. It offers avant-garde design and a unique customer experience in the premium compact electric segment. Polestar 2 is the first electric car to compete in the marketplace around the Tesla Model 3, with the range starting at a guide price of 39,900 euros. For the first 12 months of production, guide price of the launch edition is 59,900 euros. "Polestar 2 is our first fully electric car and first volume model. Everything about it has been designed and engineered with passion and dedication. As an electric performance brand, and through the forthcoming launch of a portfolio of fully electric cars, Polestar is determined to address the world's air quality challenges. Polestar delivers electric performance cars that are great to own and drive," says Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar. Polestar 2 is a premium five-door fastback with two electric motors and a 78 kWh battery capacity that will enable a targeted range of 500 km, based on Volvo Car Group's adaptable Compact Modular Architecture platform (CMA). The 27-module battery pack is integrated into the floor and contributes to the rigidity of the chassis as well as improves the car's noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels - road noise has been reduced by 3.7 dB compared to a traditional chassis. Polestar will answer the important question of charging Polestar 2 with a smart, convenient and extensive approach. With a connected digital solution available both in-car and on mobile devices, Polestar is setting up strategic collaborations to give Polestar 2 owners easy and hassle-free access to the world's largest public charging networks. For Polestar, performance underlies the entire driving experience. The all-wheel drive electric powertrain in Polestar 2 produces 300 kW (408 hp) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft). This translates to a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of less than 5 seconds. The standard dynamic chassis can be enhanced by the Performance Pack that improves driving dynamics with Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels. Polestar's signature gold seat belts, brake callipers and valve caps complete the performance visuals. Highlighting the technology spearhead role that Polestar plays within the Volvo Car Group, Polestar 2 is one of the first cars in the world to embed an infotainment system powered by Android. The Android backbone provides a solid and adaptable digital environment for apps and vehicle functions to coexist, and brings embedded Google services to a car for the first time - including the Google Assistant, Google Maps with support for electric vehicles and the Google Play Store. Natural voice control and a new 11-inch touch screen display bring the new interface to life. Phone-as-Key technology enables car sharing and a more integrated ownership experience, as well as Polestar's connected services such as pick-up and delivery. It also allows Polestar 2 to sense the driver upon approach. Smart features like enlarged graphics in the instrument cluster allow the driver to easily see the charging status and range before entering the car. Polestar 2 can also predetermine the driver's next move to create a seamless experience with a prepared cabin and quick start sequence. Maximilian Missoni, head of Design at Polestar, comments: "We decided to bring something different to the segment. Our avant-garde design has evolved from Polestar 1 into an edgier, bolder statement. We have also designed a standard vegan interior with progressive textiles that will appeal to the forward-thinking audience who will subscribe to Polestar 2." Design-led features include Pixel LED headlights and proximity lighting which enable a unique welcome sequence, Polestar's now-signature frameless side mirrors and the unique illuminated Polestar logo, which is reflected onto the car's panoramic glass roof. In common with all Polestar cars, Polestar 2 will only be available for ordering online. The guide purchase price for the launch version of Polestar 2 is 59,900 euros with subscription pricing to follow at a later date. Pre-orders are open at polestar.com. Production of Polestar 2 begins in early 2020 in China for global markets in both left- and right-hand drive. Polestar 2 will make its first public appearance at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in March, and then embark on a global roadshow in Europe, North America and China throughout 2019. Polestar 2 will also be available in a network of soon-to-be-opened Polestar Spaces that will provide physical viewing and test drive opportunities. Initial launch markets include China, the United States, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK. Other markets are under consideration for future expansion.
