  1. I think Sabbie is making this forum look sleazy and cheap. So at the risk of being awarded a yellowcard, I am going to use this poll to see what do the rest think.
  2. PAP MP Dr Lam Pin Min wants MOH to set up special fund to help PRs who cannot afford their medical bills Posted by temasektimes on April 12, 2012 The recent announcement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to reduce the healthcare subsidies for Singapore PRs have brought mixed reactions from Singaporeans. While some welcome the move, others felt the subsidies for Singaporean citizens should be increased instead. However, at least one PAP MP Dr Lam Pin Min is extremely worried about the impact of the new measures on PRs. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, GPC Chair for Health Dr Lam Pin Min feels some PRs may need help to adjust to the changes and hopes the Ministry can set up a special fund to help PRs who cannot afford their medical bills and have no where to turn to for support. His comments triggered a chorus of disapproval from netizens who lampooned him for
  3. I have a degree but have worked my way up from a junior staff to a senior one over many years. Listened and learned from my seniors when I was a noob and was humble when I was junior. Many young executives or managers I come across these days are pretty impatient, want BIG titles and fat salary but refuse to get their hands dirty. I don't think just talking is going to get things done. The other porblem is if those young fellows come in and don't start from the bottom, just give instructions without even knowing the real situation on the ground, how is that going to work out? I seriously think something is very wrong with today's education. That's my own experience (of course not all are like that), what do you folks think?
  4. I have an existing number plate, if some one wants to buy it, do i get a replacement reg number from LTA, does it costs to get the replacement number? I know the buyer will bear the transfer fees $321 of my old number. Searched on LTA's website, FAQ, such situation on veh number swaping not stated.
  5. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...dicine_too.html Posted on 16 Feb 2012 Shouldn't LTA officer be fined too for stopping vehicle on double yellow zig-zag lines? STOMPer Amused thinks that a LTA traffic warden should be prosecuted too as he had committed a traffic offence while performing his duty. STOMPer Amused wrote: "Traffic Policemen are fair. They listen to you and try to understand your problems. "On the other hand, LTA traffic wardens behave as if they own the roads. They like to play god. "Those who are misfortunate enough to encounter them would know. "This photo was taken at 3.30pm on Feb 30 opposite Suntec City Tower Four. "I saw this 'hot pursuit' by a LTA traffic warden with siren and flashing lights on, just to intercept a car. LTA should have a record of this event. "Both vehicles came to a halt at the double yellow zig-zag lines. "A page from the Highway Code states, 'Double yellow zig-zag lines indicate No Stopping at all times on that side of the road where the lines are drawn.' "Therefore, the LTA traffic warden has broken a traffic rule. "So, dear Traffic Police, please do what you have to do! :)"

  11. When neighbours disagree ... by Quek Sue Wen Carolyn Case 1: A family, who had just moved here from China, had resorted to mediation because they could not stand the smell of curry that their Singaporean Indian neighbours would often cook. The Indian family, who were mindful of their neighbour's aversion, had already taken to closing their doors and windows whenever they cooked the dish, but this was not enough. "They said: 'Can you please do something? Can you don't cook curry? Can you don't eat curry?'," said Madam Marcellina Giam, a Community Mediation Centre mediator. But the Indian family stood firm. In the end, Mdm Giam got the Indian family to agree to cook curry only when the Chinese family was not home. In return, they wanted their Chinese neighbours to at least give their dish a try. Link
  12. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ef_teacher.html I'm sure not all female teachers are like her. Some want 40k grand wedding, this one is into boys, how kinky. A STOMPer was appalled when he came across a blog created by a relief teacher in Singapore, who said that only ACSi boys are worth dating, and that guys from Raffles Institution and Chinese High are "ugly". Said the STOMPer: "I came across this blog created by a relief teacher in Singapore. "She compared boys from all-boys schools, and described boys from Chinese High and Raffles Institution as being 'ugly' and that St Andrews boys are 'imitated goods of ACSi'. "She said ACSi boys are the only ones worth dating. "She described ACSi boys as being 'rich, spoilt, pampered, arrogant player but NEVER ugly, cowardly/disloyal, stupid, dumb...' "This relief teacher he even has a checklist for people who hate her -- asking them if their PSLE score is above 260, or if they have been scouted by countless modelling agencies, among others. "She may be smart, but why must she think so highly of herself? "I think there will always be someone smarter than you, no matter how intelligent you think you are. But you'll never be wise until you've learnt about humility."
  13. So our 2-star gona donate his pay to society? [thumbsup] From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1130186/1/.html SINGAPORE: Major-General (NS) Chan Chun Sing, newly-elected MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, has said he wants to engage and give back to the community. He will be sworn in on Saturday as the Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports as well as Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts. Maj-Gen (NS) Chan said he received bursaries from the government and charitable organisations while in primary school. His new portfolio is a way for him to give back to the system, he said. Speaking to Channel NewsAsia after his usual morning walk in Commonwealth on Friday, he said he expects Singapore's low fertility rate and social mobility issues to continue to be important for MCYS and where it will need to work with other ministries. Maj-Gen (NS) Chan said his focus now is to listen to all stakeholders before implementing policies. ".....listen carefully to what people have to say, listen to what people feel are the challenges, then together with the stakeholders, we can develop a good plan to bring Singapore forward and help people that really need help," he said. Maj-Gen (NS) Chan added that his experience in the army will come in handy, especially when engaging the youth. "The unique thing about the Singapore army is that, being a conscript army, we take in people from all walks of life. So the kind of challenges that young people face from all walks of life will be reflected in the army. The army is, in a sense, a microcosm of the kind of challenges in society," he said. Maj-Gen (NS) Chan said that today's youth yearn for a different way of engagement. Using an analogy, he said it is like their preference for pizza joints that allow people to make their own pizzas - from making the dough to adding the ingredients to cooking it - as opposed to going for fixed choices from a menu in restaurants. ".....there's a sense of participation, never mind the taste....You might argue that the taste is better or not so good compared to the original menu that the owner has given you in the original choice," he said. "But (in) the process of partaking in policy-making, the process of having discussed the issues, you find that ownership. So I think this is the power of the young people nowadays, and we should tap on this energy to really bring them forward." - CNA/ir
  14. Didn't our minister Tharman says that it makes no sense to protect jobs for local professionals? So I guess it makes sense to have young professionals looking to jump ship at the next opportunity? --- Apr 4, 2011 IN THE ST NEWSPAPER TODAY 1 in 5 of Gen Y wants to emigrate Survey also finds better qualified group feels most threatened by foreigners By Rachel Chang Related Link Gen Y's 4 faces An Institute of Policy Studies survey showed one in five young Singaporeans want to emigrate or go overseas for an extended period of time. -- ST PHOTO: WANG HUI FEN AN INSTITUTE of Policy Studies survey of 2,013 young Singaporeans shows one-fifth want to emigrate or go overseas for an extended period of time. But it also reveals that the most educated and qualified group, most able to emigrate, are also the ones feeling most threatened by foreigners in Singapore society.

  17. New Zealand wants Singaporeans as foreign talent! Would you go? - Today, 11:12 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- from The New Paper: THE land of the Maoris has set its sights on Singapore. and the hunt is on
  18. First, local radio DJ, actor and getai veteran Marcus Chin made the news after he began dating his personal assistant, Miss Eileen Cheah, while still married to his wife, 54-year-old Murong Ying. Now, the 57-year-old is in the news again, after his estranged wife is claiming a monthly maintenance allowance of S$5,000, which Chin has allegedly promised her earlier. According to Shin Min Daily News, she had also asked him to give her S$1m to return to Taiwan. Through her lawyer, Mr Sng Kheng Huat, she is also asking for $20,000 to be put in a trust fund for her by Chin. Mr Sng claims this is because Madam Murong does not trust Chin after he left her for Miss Cheah, despite the ex-wife giving up her Taiwan citizenship to be with Chin in Singapore. Their separation, in October 2008, was initiated by Chin. When they separated, he wrote her a letter saying he would give her $5,000 a month. And he paid her that sumfor eight months. But for several months after that, he reduced the amountto $1,000, the court heard. In November last year, the court ordered him to give Madam Murong $3,000 a month and another $600 for the HDB loan instalment. Madam Murong then asked for the sum to be increased to $5,000, what Chin had promised in his letter. On Monday afternoon in the Family Court, Mr Sng cross-examined Chin in a three-hour session, reported The New Paper. Details of Chin's 'splurges' were read out by Mr Sng, such as a party held by him and his girlfriend when their baby girl was a month old in September. The party had amounted to $48,000. He also mentioned two pieces of jewellery worth nearly $1,600 that were charged to his credit card in May. Another item, a camera, which was bought by his 'mistress' was also brought up, bought using a supplementary credit card that he had given Miss Cheah. Miss Cheah had also signed for a dinner worth $559 in May. Chin disputed that he should hand over $1m to Madam Murong on the basis that she had no relatives in Singapore, and only a few friends when Mr Sng asked if it was reasonable of him to do so. He said: "She married me and got Singapore citizenship. So can we also say, because of that, she earned a million dollars already?
  19. Arguably more than any other automaker, Volkswagen has been the subject of much debate regarding a potential F1 program over the past year or two. The German industrial giant is one of the largest never to have competed in the pinnacle motorsport series. But while previous reports suggested that VW could partner with a specific team, the company's interests now seem to extend far beyond the classical engine-supplier
  20. Luca di Montezemolo has stepped down as chairman of the Italian carmaker Fiat. He will, however, remain president of Ferrari, with 34-year-old John Elkann - a descendant of the founding Agnelli family - replacing him at Fiat because Montezemolo has "finished the task" he began in 2004. Montezemolo, 62, denied the move is a precursor to moving into Italian politics or even founding his own party, insisting he is staying on the Fiat board and will not stop heading Ferrari. On the same day, Montezemolo announced that he still wants "major teams" such as Ferrari "and McLaren" to be allowed to enter third cars in grands prix. "We want a third car and I would do everything to have Valentino (Rossi)," he told reporters. "When he wins this year's MotoGP, enough is enough, he must also win in formula one," the Ferrari chairman and president added.

  23. From STOMP: http://talkback.stomp.com.sg/forums/showth...397#post2479397 SDP going all out to make sure Obama knows that Singapore is not just about PAP! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Appeal to President Obama for APEC To: President OBAMA Through American Embassy 27 Napier Road Singapore 258508 Main Tel. No: (65) 6476-9100 Main Fax No: (65) 6476-9340 Mr President, As you grace our country with your presence during these APEC meetings, we beseech you to take some time off your meeting schedule to meet with MAS Chariman Goh Chok Tong, Finance Minister Tharman and bank CEOs to discuss compensation measures for minibond holders and investors that have lost entire life savings due to your predecessor’s failure to bailout Lehman Brothers in 2008. A total of S$375 million (US$258 million) worth of Lehman-linked structured products was sold to 8,000 retail investors who did not have the financial acumen to understand the risks of these complicated products. The total number of structured products, which value evaporated overnight, is closer to S$500 Million. Our misplaced faith in the US banking and financial regulatory system, together with predatory sales tactics, had left us exposed to the whims and fancies of ruthless bankers and the former Treasury Sec. Hank Paulson. Minibonds investors in Singapore have been filing complaints and lawsuits against various financial institutions, but many lack the resources to proceed with the lengthy and costly litigation process. The spillover damage has also been hefty. Eight town councils in Singapore – institutions entrusted with funds meant for the maintenance and running of Public Housing facilities – had about S$16 million invested in troubled structured products. The effort of some (e.g. Great Eastern Life) to redeem the original capital injection value of these products is but a drop of water in an ocean of judiciary irresponsibility. While three of the US biggest banks have exited the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) – a fund meant to save financial institutions from collapse – and handed out US$29.7 billion in bonuses, Singaporean investors are left wondering where was the Lehman Brothers Rescue? Here in Singapore, investors holding credit-linked notes linked to Lehman Brothers had received no coupon payments (as of Oct this year) toward the end of the grace period. Yet another event of default as US banks trade TARP funds for bonuses. Many people have the mistaken impression that investors have been assisted by the Singapore to get a fair compensation. This is the impression is forged by the streams of feel good press statements that misguide the uninformed reader. The truth is, Singaporean investors have been shortchanged. Less than 20% has been compensated, while our neighbours in Hong Kong and Taiwan are getting more headway as 777 Singaporean investors continue to be ignored by Prime Minister Lee who declined to meet the investors or to delegate his officials to resolve this issue. Not much else has transpired as Singaporeans are ignorant of their human or contractual rights and unable to seek redress outside of governmental assistance due to years of a nanny state under the Lees. Former CEO of NTUC INCOME Mr Tan Kin Lian had been an earlier crusader for our rights and we thank him for it. It heartens me that our plight is not forgotten and that Mr Yap Keng Ho is reigniting the spirit of justice. A few affected investors and I are standing behind Mr Yap’s open call for resolution and invitation to gather at Speakers’ Corner. In the spirit of American’s 1st amendment, we will gather at Hong Lim Park and make our demands heard. Demands that the US be held culpable for its fair share in this debacle. Mr President, Although you did not preside over this debacle, the current injustice is within your reach to fix. Yours Sincerely, Anthony Lee ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lehman Bonds' victims must use Obama this week to make demands Minibond & other Lehman victims should Demand Obama to RePAY during APEC Yes! I am calling on the minibond victims & other victims to get organized and protest at Speakers Corner where you can conduct demonstration lawfully. :-) Demand Obama to Repay You, yes with US tax payers' funds and not SGP tax payers funds. I had disagreed to have Singaporean tax payers fund or SGP public funds or SGP Banks' funds to be scooped out to repay you. This is unfair for Singaporean public interest and not their fault at all. It is bank & MAS & Minister of Finance's fault (Ass Loong Son). Your money was sucked to the USA by Wall Street Scum Lehmen Bros. The USA should be made responsible to compensate you. You should list US secretary of finance & Obama as defendant if you want to file class action lawsuit - my suggestion. When Obama found that your angers are against him, then he will check with famiLEE LEEgime officially to find out that you had been treated so unfairly. :-) You have to push Obama because he can kick the famiLEE LEEgime for you, if there is a person that can do it for you, it would be Obama, not that I need to flatter him at all. That's the basic strategy I am offering you, you have a chance this week to exploit Obama. Do it within the next few days!
