    "volt" of confidence

General Motors is trying to ease buyers concerns about battery life by announcing it will guarantee the upcoming Chevrolet Volt's lithium-ion battery pack for 100,000 miles or a period of eight-years, whichever comes first. In addition, GM noted that the warranty will be transferable at no cost to a new owner should a Volt buyer decide to sell his car. According to the Detroit automaker, "it's the automotive industry's longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle". The Volt's battery warranty covers all 161 battery components and that's a pretty comprehensive thing for buyers as the cost of the 400 pound battery has been estimated to be between US$8,000 to US$10,000. The car uses a small gasoline engine to produce electricity once the battery is depleted. Perhaps the Honda CRZ and Toyota Prius should follow Chevrolet
  2. I read how some ADs void your warranty after you change new rims very stupid. Then i read about the US where apparently theres this Magnuson-Moss Act in their legislation which clearly stipulates that A manufacturer cannot void the warranty of a vehicle just because aftermarket parts (a tune in this case) are installed. A manufacturer can deny warranty work on a vehicle if an aftermarket emissions part is what caused the need for repair. But it cannot wholly deny a vehicle warranty. I find it ridiculous how changing the rims can affect people's warranty. Theres no customer protection here in singapore even after we pay so much.
  3. I have sent my car to repair and though the warranty agent has provided me a car to use, but they take too long to repair it. They are not professional at all though they claim they are. They take their own sweet time and down my car there for so long, so consider my COE of 14k, insurance of 4k a year and road tax of 1.2k a year, they hold my car for 2 months already, I should be able to claim a $1100 from them... Anyone has such bad experience from WARRANTY AGENT? PLS Share with me what I can do.....
  4. My ride is coming to 3 years, and that also means the 3 years warranty will expire. I was offered a 2 years warranty extension at $1188. I'm seriously contemplating taking up the offer, and keeping the car for another 2 years. Only catch is for the warranty to be effected, all servicing must be done at the AD workshop. Anyone sign up for extended warranty and think it's worth the $$?

  6. Hi Need your kind advices... 1. Car was involved in accident. Bumper, front side panel (beside bonnet) and bonnet panel changed. 2. Repairs was done at third party workshop because authorised workshop of insurance. Damages were claimed full from the third party's insurance. 3. After car was repaired, there are some rattling sounds in the car, near the dashboard or car door (near the panel which was repaired). 4. Car workshop cannot find out the sound. Claimed that the sound was already there before accident. Asked me to check out with the car authorised agent. 5. I send my car to the agent for check-up. They heard the sound and is unsure where it is from. 6. As the car is under warranty, they are agreeable to do a check FOC. They may even issue a courtesy car as they are unsure how many days they'll need to diagnose and solve the issue. 7. I have not told them about the accident. In case, they refuse to do any checks. That's what my workshop advised me. Now, I am concerned if they open up the car and discovered there are tell-tale signs that there have been repairs, though not directly linked to the sound. They may not honor the warranty or worse, they will charge the time-cost and courtesy car usage to me. So, what should I do? Inform them the car was involved in accident but does not seems directly linked to the sound? Worst case, the agent charges for the repairs and courtesy car due to discovering that it is involved in accident. Can i still claim from insurance for these costs? Your advise will be greatly appreciated... thanks
  7. Will your warranty be voided if you change exhaust?
  8. Read this for a 2 yrs old car..... "But the way things are going, what I need is a lifetime warranty or a permanent solution." http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Owners/Sto...330-207576.html
  9. hi any brother can advise me what is the weblink for the company that provide insurance for extended warranty.
  10. This morning, my stupid air con cannot turn on . 1st time encounter air con spoilt . Is it usually covered under 3 years warranty? If yes, need to send for servicing
  11. Went for 60K servicing yesterday at BM and as I was collecting my vehicle after servicing, was issued with a servicing chit indicating that in order to enjoy the extended warranty for another 2 years, I have to come back to them for servicing every 10,000 km or 6 mths. If not, they will not warranty the parts during the extended warranty. When I bought the extended warranty (Toyota Shield, paid $500+) in 2006, was not told of regular servicing at AD to enjoy the extended warranty period. Now its seem that I have to stick to them for another 2 years. I wrote this because I have to change my front disc brake pads next servicing and was informed that it will cost $345+ at BM for a pair (4 brake pads). I could have got it much cheaper outside. So, should I change my front pair brake pad at outside workshop?
  12. driving a merc B Class and thinking of upsizing the stock rims to replica AMG rims. will it void the warranty?
  13. Had a very unpleasant experience today with the ADs. Bought a 2nd hand car 3months ago. It is having 5years of AD warranty. So to play safe before buying the car, I went with the 2nd hand dealer to the AD for servicing and complain that the brakes were noisy. Had an agreement with the 2nd hand dealer that if anything wrong they have to pay before i accept the car. After the servicing, it was stated that everything is ok, the brakes are fine and the brakes is "like that one". I thought since its from a reputable AD, okie I took it. 3 months later, the brakes noise gets louder, went to the service center again. This time, the advisor was saying, oh... your rotor disc is very rough thats why there is this noise and its classified as wear and tear parts. They advise to resurface and polish it up and needs to be charged $300 bucks. Then I was annoyed, ask them how can rotor disc considered as wear and tear? If its brake pad, ok I accept it, but not Rotor Disc? The advisor immediately say ok charge $180 will do. So lan lan ask them to do it first., Immediately, I wrote an email in and immediately the manager called me within 2 hrs, still telling me its a wear and tear item due to sand or particles went in and cause it to be rough, all the Craps. Sibei hot liao, than ask he why it was not discovered 3 months ago when I have already complained about it? He than lan lan, tell me okie, why not another 50% discount. $80plus. Haiz, since the manager also working for the company, I gave in and said okie. In the end, I ask the manager, when companies stated Extended warranty 5 years, engine etc, but exclude wear and tear items, how they define clearly what is wear and tear? He say oh definitely the engine will be under warranty. But I ask him if a person always ram and play his car for 4 years and before the warranty ends, the engine died, is it covered? He say "No, as its considered as wear and tear". Than I told him in this case its difficult to justify rite? In the end comes the favourite phase, warranty is' like that one' But I have to give credit to the AD staff for their service and promptness. Its only that the warranty terms is not clearly defined especially for 5years term.
  14. I believe this is really evident these days. You need the car, it is financially draining and at the same time, you are servicing the dastardly loan. Let this be known. The car you currently keep is cheaper than buying a new one. Don't believe for the fact that statistics have shown that cars are less than 5yrs old in SG doesn't mean that you need to get a new car when your current car is 5yrs old. Don't let that car salesperson con you into a new one and your current one should be unloved and uncared. This post is in the Maintenance folder and we are addressing maintenance issues for cars going past their warranty. Firstly, these are experiences with a 4.5yr old GM crap that is, should I say, pretty much a slave that does its master's bidding. Since engine performance is on the minds of everyone, I will address engine performance first. Air intake Leave this alone. No need for crazy CAI or anything. Maybe you can get rid of the resonator but I doubt it will help that much in performance. However, you do get rid of an extraneous system for maintenance. For all I know, this box collects leaves and other fluff. I got rid of mine. Ignition By far this is the most critical to performance. This is the system that will fail you without a doubt. Ignition wire sets, coils and flywheel pickup sensors are subject to the most wear and tear. Petrol is a spark ignited fuel. So it pays to pay for maintaining this area. I suggest everyone to change out their ignition system just before the warranty expires. The car will indeed feel like when you first got it. FC will improve, power will improve. Everything. Spark plugs are subjective. I run a fuel that is sensitive to ignition problems. I'm using cheapo BKR6E11 plugs. No fancy Iridium or double platinium. With new wire sets, the car on CNG does not suffer any loss of power. I can't even feel it. No jerking, no hesitation. So I can say, Iridium and Platinium are hype in terms of performance. However, I would not say they are hype in longevity. Get them if you hate changing plugs on a yearly basis. If you cover on average 25k km a year, these plugs can last you 4yrs without a plug change. Make sure you use OE replacements or equivalents. Do not use performance ignition parts especially wire sets. If you are using equivalents, stick to good names like NGK, Denso, Bosch and even ACDelco. Cooling system If you can, change to use a metal thermostat housing should your car comes with a plastic one. Plastic ones crack over time and fail. Use good long life coolant. Always 50/50 mix. 40% antifreeze is the lowest you should go. Do not go further down than that. Don't buy cheapo coolant/antifreeze. You can use tap water since ours is pretty soft. There is no need for distilled water. Just change it during the timing belt change. Emissions This is often overlooked. As someone said it here. Who the f*** cares. It won't spoil. Just leave the stupid O2 sensor in there. Well, it won't get bad but its performance will get bad. Old O2 sensors are slow. Slow will make your engine respond slower. In OBDII cars, the primary O2 sensor before the cat actually does the fuel trim. The hot exhaust cleans it but it too has a life. Typically from 100-160k km. If your car is past this mileage, change it out to a fresh new one. The secondary O2 sensor that is after the cat does not send signals for fuel trim. The ECU only reads it to check if the cat is working. It is not necessary to change this one unless the OBDII fault code signals an inefficient cat. Pray that this is the secondary O2 sensor failing and not the cat dying. Crankcase oil Otherwise PCMO, engine oil. Stick to intervals stated in the manual. If you cover 25k a year, you should go through 2 oil changes at least. Stick to what the manual says unless it is absolutely moronic like mine. 10W40 and 20W50 but recommend GF3? Who are these guys that write the manual. I would say, stick with GF4 oil. SM grade is just the API grade but GF4 is the gold standard. The GF4 tests are so torturous, the oils that make it are very good. Don't buy hype. Buy what your car needs and this isn't necessarily synthetic. I'm using any cheap GF4 oil. Do note that some engines are weird and need to burn oil. So GF4 isn't necessary for all cars but it does for most on the roads. Well that's for for now.
  15. Are there any mf battery available that has more than a year warranty ?

  19. Would like to check what is the normal standard warranty offer in the market now? Is it the same if i buy the new car from agent compare to the warranty given by the PI?
  20. Got a 2nd hand Sonata NF recently. Noticed that the aircon didn't blow cold air yesterady. I am wondering if it is covered by warranty. I mean if Komoco will fix the aircon charge for me? But the other issue is that the ex-owner had not sent the car to KMC for service for last 20KM servicing. Called KMC service centre today and they told me that I "can" go to their service & they will check the aircon 1st and "may" repair the aircon under warranty. They "May" claim for me! what does that mean? If at the end of day they say cannot claim warranty and charging me for the service, then I would not want them to fix it because there're many shops can do it at a cheaper rate! Any bro have such experience before? Today the car give me another issue - the battery died on me just now! Not sure if KMC will replace it free as well if my car is under warrantly. Oh forgot to mention that the Sonata is 2 years old. Even if they do, I have to find someone to help me jump start the car 1st. Heard that some shop have service van which to the job but they charge over 50 for 1 trip. Think that's too expensive! Any lobang? Many thanks.
  21. Hi I'm the 3rd owner, do the PI still honour the warranty it, supposed it's a 1+ year old car with 2 year warranty? I'm asking the usual industry practice as the 2nd owner also not sure.
  22. my toyota altis 3 year warranty already finished. I did not take the extended warranty before the expiry because I thought to change new car but now decided to keep another 2-3 years. Is it wise to get the extended warranty? I am trying to talk to the customer service if i can get it now for a premium. I think is about S$1K ++. My mileage now is about 79,000 KM. Since I got a scare of my VVTI gear issue, i am thinking for the warranty. Thai Tom Yum car really fragile leh.
  23. Hi all, I am just wondering, the PI that are selling cars in Spore, always said the car they sell comes with certain years of warranty, but dothey really have the warranty by the manufacturer? For waht I know, PI buy a car from a 3rd party company in Japan, and ship to Spore, so logically, the car that we are buying from PI is a 3rd hand car(ofcourse the car has never been driven before), the warranty for the car will only b valid with the car domestically, once the car shipped out of Japan, the warranty is basically void. Especially for those JDM model, coz those car are mainly not designed for our tropical climate use. So, does any bro here experience any thing(good or bad) with the PI warranty?
