  2. MSK was first reported last week whilst escaping with short, bare body and last seen at Malcom Road area....... Today ST head line reported that he was wearing T shirt with pants....... . Also report in CNA : SINGAPORE: Police have released pictures of what Jemaah Islamiyah leader, Mas Selamat Kastari, might have been wearing when he escaped from the Whitley Detention Centre on Wednesday. Mas Selamat had with him the prescribed attire of the detention centre
  3. 1) In view that Mas was not caught and pose a danger for citizens to be in crowded places like orchard road, movie theater, MRTs,etc, many kiasi car buyers may be staying home this weekends to be with family. 2) Also the news of USA in recession is made from various analysts in this week. Could the car bookings be slow this weekends and thus push the next COE bid price downwards?
  4. I just have my tyres swop at a tyre shop near AMK area. Within a week, when i inspect the wheels, I discovered that the 4 nuts on my front left wheel came loose. I can even unscrew them using bare hands. Luckily the wheel did not come off while driving, otherwise the car sure go out of control. I am wondering if the screw nuts will loosen over time? or is it a bad job done by the tyre shop?
  5. Hi folks. I received an late-build N82 prototype unit for testing over a week ago, so I've had plenty of time to get to know it properly. I wrote a lengthy review of it over at my blog with many photo sample comparisons and videos of it in action: http://meandmyphones.blogspot.com/2007/11/...after-week.html In a nutshell, the N82 is a turbo-charged N95 wrapped up in a mono bloc body with xenon flash, Navi wheel like the N81 and automatic screen rotation ala Apple's iPhone. After using it so far, I can only say that if I could have only ONE phone on the planet today, it would have to be this one.
  6. Going Tokyo this weekend, intent to initiate nephew into Harajuku movement. Any direction where to go, staying in Shinjuku.
  7. Wild Idea: I propose to the government to implement this campaign. Let the minister and citizens see for themselves the difference of having and not having ERP system. Prove to the minister ERP not effective or prove to drivers ERP works in containing congestion. Any supporters?
  8. Motoring @ AsiaOne 3-week old VW Golf GTI faces gearbox glitch Model has been available here since 2005, but glitch is said to affect only this year's batch. Christopher Tan Thu, Oct 11, 2007 The Straits Times HOMEMAKER Beverly Wong was overjoyed when her husband bought her a brand new red VW Golf GTI for her 38th birthday last month. Her euphoria lasted all of three weeks. Last Saturday when she was out with her hubby and 22-month-old son at around 5pm, the three-week-old $120,000 200-horsepower performance car got stuck in first gear. "It happened suddenly. Then the lights indicating the gear positions started flashing wildly, and we just couldn't get the transmission to change gear,'' Ms Wong said. "We even tried going to manual mode, by using the paddle shifters on the steering column.'' The GTI is equipped with a high-tech double-clutch semi-automatic transmission called DSG. VWs with DSG here include the Jetta, GT and R32. Volkswagen Singapore, the manufacturer-owned importer, distributor and retailer of VWs here, admitted that Ms Wong's car had a "gearbox failure", and that it was the second such case in a month. It was unable to say what the problem was, but said "DSG is a very reliable and solid gearbox and we have had minimal issues in the many cars we've sold so far". The Golf GTI has been available here since 2005, but the glitch is said to affect only this year's batch of cars. Up to September this year, Volkswagen sold 81 GTI's here. But the transmission breakdown was only half the disappointment Ms Wong felt. After calling the Volkswagen roadside assistance hotline, she waited half an hour for service personnel to arrive. They told her the car needed to be towed back to the workshop as it had a major fault that could not be fixed there and then. She was handed a taxi voucher; and was told that a tow truck would arrive within the hour. It turned up three hours later at 7.45 pm. She also complained that the company did not arrange a temporary car for her. "This is a premium car I bought, and it's barely 3-1/2 weeks old. They should have given me a temporary car to use,'' Ms Wong said. "We had a baby with us, and a lot of bulky things in the car, including a childseat.'' After haggling with Volkswagen Singapore, she finally got a replacement car, which arrived at 9pm. All in, she and her family wasted four hours of a Saturday evening. "I know mechanical things do break down. I was from the car industry, so I know,'' said the former staff of Audi distributor Premium Automobiles, fuming. "But Volkswagen should have helped make the bad experience a little more bearable. I am totally disappointed with their service.'' Volkswagen Singapore spokesman Deborah Chia said: "We view this incident with much unhappiness. We empathise with the customer and will rectify the situation immediately" ================= any comments on service from VW Spore ever since they took over from Cars and cars ? just want to know how good the after sales is like !

  11. Is it advisable to drive a 2 week old car with mileage less than 400km to KL and back? Will it be bad for the engine? And will there be other problems will occur later on?
  12. Anything that I should do? Do not want to come back and find engine cannot start or battery dead. I know I should not arm the car alarm and should just lock manually. Any other advices? Btw, the car is about 3 months old.
  13. Hello everyone, had a scary experience this morning, car could not start. Car's only a year old and battery is good, did a scan with scangauge and there were no error codes. There was cranking but engine just refuses to start, I even checked the spark plugs and they were alright. Then daddy came to the rescue, he depressed acclerator slightly while cranking and engine came to life after some coughing. It sounded rough initiallly but calmed down after a few seconds, there was also white smoke coming out from the exhaust during this period. Drove from changi to clementi after warm up and car felt normal. What could hv caused this and is there a need for any concern? Car is parked outdoors and it had been raining since I last drove it on Saturday. Thanks.

  16. ST 7/7/07 THE road tax for cars, motorcycles and dual-purpose commercial vehicles will be reduced by 8 per cent from Sept1 as announced earlier this year during the Budget Statement. From next week, road tax renewal notices sent to motorists will show the new reduced rates. This means motorists paying their road tax from next week will pay only the new reduced rate, regardless of the amount shown on earlier notices sent to them. Vehicle owners who have have already paid their road tax, for the assessment period beginning Sept 1 based on existing rates before July 9, will have the excess amount automatically offset from their next road tax bill. Similarly, excess road tax paid on a vehicle that is transferred before its next renewal will be used to offset the total transfer fees for the vehicle. From Monday, motorists will be able to check the rates they will have to pay on One.Motoring, the Land Transport Authority's online portal at www.onemotoring. com.sg The lower road tax rates are part of the Government's efforts to gradually balance the cost of owning a car against usage costs, the LTA said in a statement. This means that, over time, it will cost less to own a car but the cost of using it will go up, as Electronic Road Pricing charges and other costs rise.
  17. guys, any comments?? http://travel.asiaone.com.sg/news/20070420_001.html
  18. Finally got my 15 posts, and am to start thread. Will be collecting new car from dealer sometime this week, and am keen to get off to a good start. Car will be bright silver in colour. Very large car, so plenty of surface area to cover Will usually be parked exposed to afternoon-evening sun, and rain splashes. I will most probably be able to spend about 1 hour on cleaning it up each week. Got a maid who used to wash the old car about 2 times a week, but not sure if can trust her on the new car So, am looking for a professional (Non-DIY) solution which is a good balance between ease of maintenance in between, and results (excellent shine). An higher initial cost/work, but easier and better results later on. Was at 1st looking at Glaze. Attracted by its ease of maintenance but from some of the reports here, more suited for dark colour cars. Alot of lao jiao ppl here recommend Klasse for light colour cars, but given that I'm not being able to DIY everyweek myself, abit worried. I'm thinking of bringing it in to Klasse grooming centre Bukit Batok Crescent UNITY CENTRE. Probably about once every 2 months. (I stay very near there) 1) Wash & clay
  19. Not all benefit from COE plunge last week Those buying a car packaged with COE won't enjoy 50% dive in premiums By SAMUEL EE Email this article Print article ? Feedback THE last time passenger car Certificate of Entitlement premiums were at the level they have now sunk to was in late 1991 and early 1992, barely two years after the vehicle quota system was introduced and COE entered our vernacular. But as we have said many times before in this newspaper, not everyone benefits from the sharp discounts - primarily because of a pitfall people face when buying a car that comes packaged with a COE. Last Tuesday, Category A COEs for cars below 1,600cc plunged $6,681 to $5,200, while Cat B for cars above 1,600cc shed $5,998 to $6,002 after some traders held off bidding amid speculation the Budget would include a cut in the Additional Registration Fee. Other reasons given were the holiday period and the revised schedule for February's two COE tenders, both of which were shortened because of the Chinese New Year break. But most of the people who secured a Cat A or Cat B COE in last week's bidding exercise will not enjoy the full benefit of the premiums diving 50 per cent. A quick check with major distributors shows COE rebate levels range from $5,000 to $9,000. A COE rebate is the cash a dealer gives to the customer when the COE drops below a set level. http://ads.asia1.com.sg/image.ng/Params.richmedia=yes&site=tbto&sec=btomotoring&cat1=auto&cat2=btomotoringart&size=300X250 The people who enjoyed the most festive cheer were those who booked a car with Borneo Motors. The customers of the authorised distributor of Lexus and Toyota, Singapore's favourite brand, enjoyed a rebate of $2,998 for a Cat B car and $3,800 for a Cat A car. So for someone ordering an Altis at $52,988 and who secured a COE at $5,200, this sedan - the country's most popular model - will only cost only $49,188. 'We want to be very open and fair to the customer,' explained Gavin Yeo, director of sales and marketing for Toyota. 'We have been offering this scheme all along because we want to tell our customers that our cars are value for money. Our customers are very important to our business.' He said buyers who did not enjoy refunds were those who required immediate delivery and took up an open category COE, which fell just $795 to $11,804 in the last round. At Hyundai, however, things were different. Authorised agent Komoco Motors has set the COE rebate at $5,000, meaning it is not legally bound to offer any rebate to customers. On the other hand, Komoco said sticker prices had already been cut before the freak COE results last Tuesday. 'We anticipated there would be a correction in COE premiums so we dropped our prices by $2,000 to $3,000 before the tender,' explained Marcus Ang, Komoco's general manager of sales. 'As a result, the COE rebate was adjusted downwards accordingly.' He ruled out any goodwill discount, saying: 'Most people are mature enough and they know what they are in for.' Still, Komoco has since raised its COE rebate to $8,000, Mr Ang said. Rushing in has its benefits As with previous sharp falls in COE premiums, the irony is that those who benefit most are likely to be the people who rush in after it happens. This is because dealers usually cut sticker prices after the tender to reflect the new and lower premiums. So when shopping for a new set of wheels, ordering a car with a packaged COE may not be the smart thing to do. Unfortunately, individuals who want to bid for their own COEs face several obstacles - such as the relatively high $10,000 COE bid deposit and overcoming the conventional sales practice. In an ideal situation, anyone who wants to buy a car would bid for a COE themselves, not through a dealer acting on their behalf. Only after a COE has been obtained would a person then go look for a car to buy - one with a sticker price that reflects its actual cost, the relevant taxes and the agent's profit margin. If this were the case, the experience of shopping for a car would be akin to picking out a luxury item like a nice watch or mobile phone, both of which have prices that fluctuate only with taxes, inflation or fashion. And the total amount you pay would be the real cost - nothing more, nothing less.
