  2. My previous AD workshop uses castrol edge which i am happy with (in fact it is the best i have used compared to idemitsu and voltonic) and the technician there are ok in attitude. what i dislike is they dun allow us to see what they do to our car and the pricing is on the high side for me. normal 10k servicing is abt $180-200. and my major servicing at 40k cost me >$600. my car is juz a stock japanese chao tee.... I have sort list a few ws which i may visit over the weekend and hope to stick to them for good. but i hope to get some feedback from you guys before i make the final decision. WS: BH Auto Services Pte Ltd EO/Price: Agip, Amsoil /$118 - $128 Pull factors: Near my house in wdls and almost all reviews are positive Still thinking: there are cheaper option and i would actually like to try out motul, ows or shogun EO. WS: E-Rev Motor Sports LLP EO/Price: Blitz, Redline, Motul, Fuchs, Cusco, Redline/$100-$170 Pull factors: Near my house in wdls and lots of options Still thinking: imo not all their goods/service are reasonably priced WS: Autoaid Pte Ltd EO/Price: Shogun/$88-$98 Pull factors: below $100 with Shogun EO. heard that shogun is solid stuff. Still thinking: the mechanics are Nissan experts. I dun own a nissan. WS: Soon Huat Tyres Pte Ltd EO/Price: Bardahl/$98 Pull factors: below $100 Still thinking: they seems to more into tyres than vehicle servicing. WS: Providence Automobile Pte Ltd EO/Price: Pennzoil, Liqui Moly, OWS/$88 Pull factors: seems to be the cheapest i can find Still thinking: a bit far from wdls and not much review on them WS: Excel Car Service Centre Pte Ltd EO/Price: Shogun/$93-$165 Pull factors: big premises with what looks like state of art facilities. using Shogun. kids facilites. aviva authorized (my car insurance co.) Still thinking: a bit far from wdls, $93 package seems like crap and the next jump is $165. not much review. all comments appreciate

  4. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is reviewing the enforcement regime against workshops which illegally modify vehicles. 2,645 summonses were issued for illegal modification offences for all vehicle types in 2010. The figure went up to 7,322 in 2011. For motorcycles, 341 summonses were issued for illegal modifications in 2010, and 1,175 summonses in 2011. In 2012, the figure shot up to 7,239 summonses for illegal vehicle modifications in the first eight months alone. 1,405 summonses were for illegal motorcycle modifications. In a written reply to Parliament, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said no one has been jailed for illegal modification offences. Enforcement actions are currently focused on owners of illegally modified vehicles. No summonses have been issued against motor vehicle workshop owners so far. 8. Hi all, After reading many postings from members on what engine oil to use for your car, I happened to read through Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS) website and below is their recommendation. I hope it helps you to understand better: Just like petrol, engine oil is another vital liquid that no car can run without. As commonly referred to as 'lube' oil, this substance plays a significant role in limiting the engine's wear, influencing its fuel economy and even aids cooling to a certain extent. As with petrol, engine oil is available in several grades or viscosities. Also referred to as 'weight', these are denoted by numbers such as 5-W40. Generally speaking, older cars tend to require thicker viscosities such as 15-W50 while newer cars engines are built with finer tolerances and can use thinner oils such as a 0-W30 weight. What To Do To find out which oil suits your car, refer to the owner's manual or check with your car's dealer. There are many different brands on the market of varying qualities - price is usually a good indicator of how good an engine oil is, so shop around. What It Means The advantage of using a 'lighter' oil is that it flows more quickly to the engine's moving parts during start-up and a thinner oil also helps the engine's fuel efficiency as the moving parts within it have less resistance to work against. Another way of explaining this concept would be to imagine how much more energy you'll need to stir a bucket of thick liquid verses a bucket of water. Unlike petrol, cars are more sensitive to the engine oil that's put in them and as a general rule you should never mix different oils in the same engine. Engine oils also come in three basic categories; mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic. While mineral is often the cheapest, fully synthetic oil is the most expensive as it lasts the longest. Oils 'break down' or loose their viscosity over time or distance driven. When this happens, the engine oil looses its ability to protect the engine. So long-lasting fully synthetic oil will ensure the best protection right up to your next service. Even though most synthetic engine oils claim to be effective way in excess of your car's recommended servicing intervals, you should still keep to the latter schedule to maintain your car properly.
  9. As above. But must be specific hor, pls don't give answers like that one in Jln Kayu or that one in Upp Thomson Road, haha Also, since this is a car forum, can also comment about the situation of parking. OK, for me, if u like your prata extra crispy, can try The Roti Prata House, 246M Upper Thomson Road. But best don't see how they cook it, the amount of oil used is scary. Parking is road side illegal, extremely limited.

Hence i decided to commit more of my hard earned money into getting a new car. I read so many reviews about various cars...slowly eliminating my choices. Now i am left with 2 choices which i hope some of you can help me. Perhaps you may have experience driving these cars. 1st Car - Kia Koup - $110k - 124 bhp - sexy curves - fierce looking - korean reliability 2nd Car - Mini Cooper - $145k - 120 bhp - iconic - good handling - heard consumption no good I have test drove these 2 car. I like both....and i cant decide which. Can anyone share their views? I told my wife that since i cant decide, i shall MCF decide for me...
