  1. ...during the fasting month, this is happening <_< Non-muslims are instructed to have their meals in the restrooms as a form of respect for the majority fasting I find it really preposterous and sad! for that, I am glad, that we have and practice multi-racialism here. [shakehead] I recall, there was a case here, that the principal asked the canteen to be halal and no pork to be brought in by the other races. Never heard of the case since! Again, reminders, keep to the topic and how would you feel as a parent if your kid was treated like this?

PHOTOS File photo: Singapore's skyline. ENLARGE CAPTION SINGAPORE: Singapore's economy posted a 5.1 per cent on-year growth for the third quarter of 2013, said the Ministry of Trade and Industry in advanced estimates released on Monday. This is compared to the 4.2 per cent recorded in the preceding quarter. The market was expecting a 3.8-per cent growth. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted annualised basis, the economy contracted by 1.0 per cent, compared to the 16.9 per cent growth in the previous quarter. Economists on average were expecting a contraction of 4 per cent. Looking ahead, the Monetary Authority of Singapore said in a separate statement, that it expects the economy to continue to expand for the rest of 2013 and into 2014, although some volatility in growth rates is likely. It added that barring a significant deterioration in global demand conditions, the labour market will remain tight, and inflation could rise as firms pass on accumulated costs with the MAS Core Inflation (excluding private transport and accommodation costs) coming in at 1.8 per cent on year in August, compared to 1.6 per cent in the first seven months of the year. In the breakdown given by MTI, the manufacturing sector expanded 4.5 per cent on-year, stronger than the 1.3-per cent growth in the previous quarter. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the sector declined 3.4 per cent, in contrast to the 33.5-per cent expansion in the preceding quarter. The construction sector grew 3.6 per cent on-year, down from 6.9 per cent in the preceding quarter. The sector contracted 8.8 per cent on-quarter, a sharp contrast from the 20.9-per cent growth in the previous quarter. The services producing industries grew 5.7 per cent on-year, similar to the 5.6-per cent growth in the previous quarter. The sector grew 1.0 per cent on-quarter, moderating from the 12.3-per cent expansion in the preceding quarter. HUAT AH....200KCOE CUMMING...WOHOOOOO
  3. ..over in Africa, this really exists https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=436058...e=2&theater Like I say, we all have problems, and each have their own burden to carry. Of late, been a bit philosophical, asking abt our relevance in this universe. I wonder, what exists after death? Have always been wondering for the longest time. What exactly is this body we exist in? What is this soul that gives the means to think, make conversation, compare 9in vs 7in [laugh] Dunno, but I myself have been searching for the answers for the longest time. Peace all

  7. 欺山莫欺水。 Really gota be careful around waters, be it at swimming pool or at sea. Condolences to Mike Lie & RIP Irene Soon... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...e_maldives.html Posted on 12 May 2013 S'porean woman drowns while snorkelling in the Maldives A 34-year-old Singaporean woman lost her life when she drowned in a snorkelling accident in the Maldives last Saturday (May 4). According to a report on The New Paper, insurance manager Irene Soon -- who was there on a five-day trip with her husband, Mr Mike Lie, to celebrate her recent promotion -- was snorkelling and opted to stay in the water to take more photos underwater. Mr Lie had gotten out of the water due to saltwater getting into his mask and nose. He then crossed over onto the shallow side of a pier that divided the lagoon, and stood there watching his wife. The 37-year-old financial planner's attention was then diverted for a while as he watched a group learning how to scuba dive for five minutes but when he turned back, he realised he had lost sight of her. Around that time, a German uncle and his nephew on the shore felt that something was wrong as Ms Soon's snorkelling tube was underwater, and swam out to check it out. Mr Lie then heard a commotion while making his way to the other side of the pier, and saw the nephew pulling his wife's body in. She was lying face down on the seabed, and her fingernails and toenails were purple. He tried calling out to her but she didn't respond. He also felt for her pulse, but got nothing. A medical examination by the police pronounced her dead from drowning. Her body was flown back to Singapore on Thursday morning (May 9). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson, said that it was aware of the case, and has rendered consular assistance to Ms Soon's next-of-kin.

  13. Hi all If I were to trade in my honda civic 1.8A, reg dec 2007 (saw prices about $56k-58k), what would be a worthwhile 2nd hand vehicle in its place in the current market? I saw a few toyota allions which are not really my taste. Aside from Japanese vehicles, is a 2nd Audi worth looking into right now? Thanks for suggestions.
  14. lucky to be alive, yesterday evening at 5.45pm along kampung bahru rd, was raining and headlights on as usual during rainy weather, stopped at traffic lights beside the PSA distripark just after the church and school, which is incidentally is a school zone, a taxi was infront of me and had my foot on the brake pedal, while waiting for lights to change, looked at rear mirror and saw a bus, which was a kinglong brand tourist bus (same sized as a SBS bus) coming at my direction at a fast speed and wondered why the joker never slowed down as it was red light. it hit my car rear and the feeling of being hit at that speed and size of vehicle made my body feel like my organs also moved... those who have been in this situation know wat i mean.... the ashole ah tiong driving an ah tiong bus crashed into me and caused my vehicle to move forward and hit the taxi infront. the taxi rear bumper was hit by my front bumper license plate OPC seal, there was existing scratches on the taxi bumper and just slight damage to bumper. the taxidriver ensured his passenger was ok before came out to help me out of my vehicle and check if i was ok, the fu@%^king ah tiong was only interested to cover his ass and kept saying that the road was wet... raining sure wet la den dry isit....who ask him to speed at school zone area... after getting fu^%%& upside down left right front and centre by me and the taxi driver, i was in pain and groggy by the impact that i jus sat down at the kerb and later at the bus steps and left my bro and wife who worked nearby to handle the situation. the taxi driver left coz he told me his vehicle is only scratched at the back bumper but will come back to check on me , after dropping his passenger nearby coz my bro n wife had not arrived yet. after he came back and found out that i will be claiming from the bus insurance, he said he jus got back from 17 day mc and all of sudden his neck also pain and sure comfort taxi will want their back bumper to be replaced. my front bumper that hit his back only had a crack at the license plate holder and no damage or scratch or aniting.. even the LTA OPC seal was intact and not bent, but the back had turned into a hatchback from a saloon. lucky was not a picanto or R1 or 2 or motorcycle or else sure become roti prata... car now at authorized workshop and since was late evening and workshop closing. no replacement car given till tomorrow coz today public holiday. went to KTPH A&E and had high blood pressure and fever due to shock, thankfully xrays showed no internal bleeding or fractures but given medication and told to call ambulance if vomit during next few days, neck and back still getting more sore since yesterday. Going to workshop tomorrow to submit accident report and collect replacement car and need advise: 1. wat course of action needed next ,coz sure the taxi driver will try to take advantage 2. my back and neck still sore, do i need to go back to A&E or go to my own doctor? had to pay$ 90+ at KTPH, wat about the charges should i still need medical attention? can i claim from who? 3. will the bus insurance pay coz now if i were to sell car in future, sure value will fall coz been hit badly at the back? 4. do i need to send copy of accident report to TP coz the ah tiong is really a menace and needs to get off our roads before he kills anyone? 5. 1st time been involved in such a situation and do hope the bros n sis here can help with advise on what i asked and any other advise coz im at a loss and still in shock, as was planning a nice evening with family yesterday and today but nearly died or seriously injured. when we leave our homes each time, guess everything is in the hands of GOD, drive safe and im just so thankful to be alive....

  16. Hi, just a gentle reminder from our friendly neighbourhood mata : From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...police-20121025 Using cellphone while driving is a serious offence: Police Published on Oct 25, 2012 Drivers who use mobile phones while driving face a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both. -- ST PHOTO ILLUSTRATION THE use of a mobile phone while driving is very dangerous and irresponsible ("Why confiscate traffic offender's cellphone?" by Mr David Leong; Oct 6). Drivers who commit additional traffic offences concurrently, such as speeding or reckless driving, will be prosecuted in court. The offence of using a mobile phone while driving is punishable with a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders face a harsher punishment of a fine of up to $2,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both. In addition, they may face disqualification from driving and forfeiture of their mobile phones. While the mobile phone has to be seized as evidence for investigations, the phone's SIM card may be returned to the driver. For cases where a composition may be offered, drivers can make arrangements to collect their mobile phones from the Traffic Police Department once the composition fines have been paid and 12 demerit points awarded. Driving while using the mobile phone is dangerous not only to the drivers, but also to other road users. Be responsible and do not use your mobile phone while driving. A driver who wishes to use the phone should ask his passenger to make or receive calls on his behalf. If travelling alone, drivers are advised to stop at the nearest carpark to make calls. Those who use hands-free kits should try to keep the conversation short. Fong Weng Kiong Assistant Director, Media Relations (Covering) Public Affairs Department Singapore Police Force
  17. Hi all, Like to seek the advice and expertise of everyone in this forum. I was involved in an accident with a Taxi late last year and till today it has not been settled yet. I didn't claim from the taxi insurance as my repair is only $100! But the Taxi is claiming his 'holiday expenses' on me! Anyway, my question is what if I change my insurance company upon my insurance renewal and the settlement is not solved yet? Is it still liable to settle for me?

  22. The 17-year-old student's worst fears were realised when she was accosted in the lift of her Woodlands Drive HDB block early last Saturday. A tall, well-built man slipped in past the lift's closing doors and wrapped his right arm around her neck. That was just the start of her five-minute ordeal, during which the man not only robbed but also groped her. She reported the matter to the police, who searched the area but could not find the man. To make matters worse, the CCTV in the lift turned out to be only an empty casing. Read the full report in The New Paper on Tuesday (June 19).
