  8. January 11, 2005 DETROIT -- Saab remains a valuable brand for General Motors, the head of the carmaker's European division said on Tuesday, dismissing a newspaper report that the Swedish unit's future might be in doubt. "Saab is an important brand for General Motors. It is the only entry premium brand globally, it is one of the few global brands we have, it is almost 100 percent conquest sales for General Motors. So it is of very high importance for us," GM Europe Chairman Fritz Henderson told reporters at the North American International Auto Show. But he added that GM was looking for ways to improve performance at Saab, in part by expanding its product range. "Having a two-product global brand is not a recipe for success," Henderson said. Henderson said GM Europe would announce in the first quarter whether it will build its next-generation mid-size car at a Saab plant in Sweden or at an Opel plant in Germany. He declined to say which plant had the inside track for the job. He also said GM was looking at ways to make future production more flexible, perhaps by building some European brand cars in North America. "You do that typically when you look at new products and new architectures. I think over time we will do more of that. I have been asked the question before: do you have to build all Saabs in Sweden? The answer is no. You can build Opels in Sweden, too," Henderson said. On other subjects, he said GM was reviewing its options for introducing diesel motors to its Cadillac cars in Europe, where diesel is much more popular than in the U.S. market. "Buying one from BMW is an option. It's not the only one," he said.
  9. Hi bros & sis here, jus wondering what would you do if you see someone leaning on your car when you are on the way to start your engine?
  10. I am sorry to have hear this, Japz, and also I hope u will not be mad if I had used your story as a poll. I have seen MCFers condamn the Subaru driver like no other people business maybe due to some reasons like: a. They only hear your side of story but not the other's driver side of story. b. They have bad impression of WRX drivers. c. It's your cousin who is injured, so many people sympathy with your cousin. d. Anyway, it sounds definately like the Subaru's fault. Japz, I am glad that u keep yourself neutral and no back stabbing on the Subaru driver as I agree it will be much fairer to let the police handle the case. Anyway, since so many people give negative feedback on the driver, IF YOU ARE THE SUBARU DRIVER, WILL YOU CALL JAPZ? I THINK YOU MUST ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION B4 PASSING OPINION ON PEOPLE. I still feel it will be much fair if we can also listen to his side of story even though I think this is his fault. Do hope your cousin is well by now. Regards from Julian Here is Japz's story earlier this month: My cousin, a motorcyclist, was hit by a white Subaru TS/WRX on the 4th of December, Saturday, at abt 4pm, along Bradell Road towards Thomson after the CTE exit. It is a hit and run case. The white Subaru was apprently 'playing' with another white Subaru along the road. My cousin couldn't determine whether it was a Subaru TS or WRX. They were both swerving in and out in front of my cousin before one of the Subaru swerved into my cousin's bike. My cousin was hit from the right. So, there should be some scratch mark or dent on the left side of the doors on the white Subaru. If you have any information with regards to this case, please do not hesitate to contact me at this no. 93887468 (Jeff)

  12. hi need advise, my civic come with reverse sensor. I just remove it and install a new parking sensor. Will this void my warranty from kah motors?? I install a new parking sensor that have 2 front and 2 back sensor with a small LCD screen in front that show your car position when it is near a object in both front and back for $200 Merit 1) Damm stylo man, cool device 2) You know how near the object are as it is indicated on the LCD display 3) Good for parallel parking as it have both front and back 4) The back sensors is activated reverse gear Stupid 1) The front sensor is activated when you step on brake which mean when you are at a traffic light the front sensor is activated and if someone walk past it within 80 cm it will beep. Only can turn on/off sound. If only they can implement just to turn on reverse sensor or turn on parking sensor(front also) then it will be perfect. Currently only can turn on and off the sound. Anyway I know about this since I saw it on my cousin car and decide to go ahead as I find it quite cool. Anyway back to my question will this void my warranty from Kah Motors?
  13. A friend of mind told me this incident:About 2 weeks ago,his friend (Vincent) was driving (G9)along AYE (Center lane) at about 70~80km/h and a big lorry (those which delivered sand,mud...etc) came close to him from behind and start flashing his vechicle headlight to signal Vincent to speed up but Vincent rejected the idea by waving back to the lorry driver and continue to maintain at his speed. To his suprise, the lorry then overtake him by the express lane, drive in front of him,brake........reverse and then CRASHED INTO THE POOR G9!!!!!!Then the lorry driver alight his vechicle with a camera and start taking picture. After all the shooting,he said:I Claim your insurance!!!And then the lorry driver just drove away...... That poor ku-ku just stand there and don't know how to react......(Forgive him......He P-licence).So if it happen to you,What are you going to do...... (Forgive my English,Me Sec 2 standard )

  20. Hi forumers Need to check with u guys what are the things u guys add on without making warranty void 1. Strut Bar 2. Calski 3. Coilover 4. ??? Thanks
  21. Yes you heard it. Somebody has made a turbo kit for the 1.6L Aveo in the US. Have to wait till the show starts then can see from what I heard. There will be custom bracket for nitrous solenoids and length lines. Front and rear strut bars as well. Yummy! Forgot to add, turbo is up to 6psi. So I would say, it qualifies as an LPT. Oh yes, I forgot to add. The Lanos 1.6L DOHC 16V engine is the same as the US Aveo's. This engine with the right ECU will produce 150HP using the stock components. No need for forced induction. If put in forced induction......must install all round disc rotors and upgrade ABS and install traction control .
  22. Hi all, Am new to MCF, but have lurked around and enjoyed and benefitted from the information shared by everyone. Have decided to book an Optra (A) tomorrow and thought I'd share my thought processes and welcome comments and help from one and all. Currently, we (wife and I) drive a 1.5M Sunny (2000) and since it is coming to 5 years, thought it would be worthwhile changing cars. Those who have bought cars then know that the COE price is incredibly high then. Thought it would be good to get auto as well (easier as one gets older), and many have encouraged taking advantage of the 130% OMV. One of our key criteria is leg space (I'm quite tall) and Sunny owners will know that there is a dearth of leg room once the front seat is pushed all the way back. Also, budget was around $70K, and wanted a DOHC engine (it's just my perception of it being more durable in the long run). We were not in a hurry, so we shopped around (over the last few months)for cars but finally (for one reason or another) decided it was either going to be the Corolla or the Optra. Since cost was important, we decided to do a very rough Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) table to more objectively evaluate the options. Also did a table for Pros and Cons that were not directly measurable. Both had good rear legroom (even after pushing the front seats all the way back), ABS with EBD. In terms of exterior styling, I've no preference (not particulary fussy). I liked the interior feel of the Corolla better (leather felt softer and panels seem more refined), but my wife likes the Continental simplicity of the Optra (although I felt the build quality of the electonic mirror adjuster was a bit shaky). In terms of advantages, Corolla has an additional passenger side airbag (which is useful), and brake assist (which is nice, but I found it takes getting used to). The reverse sensor is quite annoying, and I'd have disabled it if I'd gotten it. The CD player has MP3 functionality, and there is additional rustproofing. For Optra, it has independent rear suspension, foldable rear seats, and the drive is quiet and refined (something that has been highlighted a lot in this forum, but driving is believing), more so than the Altis which was a bit loud when revved hard. The left side signalling takes a bit of getting used to, and the handbrake in the wrong side is a minor glitch. Overall, for our preferences, we were more inclined to the Optra, but fears of high fuel costs (Optra is about 70kg heavier, and Corolla is touted to have good fuel consumption) stayed our hand, and we did a TCO taking assuming the Corolla has a 20% advantage in fuel consumption (10km/l vs. 12km/l) which may or may not be reflective of reality. At our rate of fuel consumption (roughly $200/month which will change with auto) over 10 years, this would have amounted to about $4,100 net present value discounted at 3% (a reasonable long term government bond rate). In terms of servicing, although there are cheaper alternatives, we took the packages offered by BM and SA as guides and found that BM was cheaper by about $1K over three years. Over 10 years it would be about $2,800 NPV at 3%. Scrap value is again better for Corolla ($1.1K NPV at 3% discount). Overall, that's about $8,000 lower TCO. When we evaluated this a couple of weeks ago, the price difference/incentives to buy the Optra could not make up this difference, so (not being in a hurry) we waited until the recent COE tender. Now, the price before discounts was $4,500 in favour of Optra. Our trade-in value for the old Sunny remains $1.5K higher than what BN could offer (yes, too lazy to shop around). Insurance discount for SA is $1.5K higher than BN, and at my anticipated loan amount, the cash back is about $400-$500 higher than BN, although BN gives a generous ($1.5K)cashback even if you take lower, shorter term loans. All that adds up to about $8,000, so with the TCO the same, I can happily go and book my Optra (unless some unforseen circumstance crops up.) P.S. Sorry for long first post.
  23. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... few more minutes before the race(?) starts...
