  1. OK this going to be a long report but please bear with me. I collected my Aveo in May. The car is great except for the windshield wipers juddering. Mama Lemon, Jif, and all sorts of aggressive stuff doesn't solve the problem. I guess it must be some stuff the dealer put in my wiper wash but I was wrong. It seems like Starsauto has RainX'd the glass. I got fed up and so called up a helpful guy whose contact was given by Protege in this forum. I bought some of the stuff from him and he even polished my windshield with the stuff. The windshield now wets very well. With water cascading down instead of beading up. He revealed to me the stuff he is using contains cerium oxide (CeO). He said he got a hard time finding this stuff. My search on CeO reveals that it is widely used in the glass and gemstone industry where it is used for polishing. CeO works very well on anything that is silicon dioxide based as in glass or quartz. There are many grades of CeO. There is 99.9% pure stuff which is a white powder and there is optical grade which is around 80-90% cerium oxide and the rest made of iron, aluminium and other rare earth oxides. The mechanical action of CeO is very fast as he demonstrated it. He just made a slurry of the CeO powder with water and dabbed the sponge with a 3M green scourer pad on it and just started wiping the windshield with the slurry. The glass was smooth in an instant! Basically if I recall my chemistry correctly, glass polishing is basically glass removal and does show a dependence on chemical properties of the glass. The nature of the liquid present during polishing is crucial and only if active hydroxyl groups (OH-) are present, in alcohols for example but especially in water, does the polishing phenomenon happen. When a glass-typically an alkali silicate-is in contact with water, a complicated series of steps take place: ion exchange, dissolution of glass constituents and possible structural changes. A surface region of the glass is modified and it is this softer hydrated layer that is removed or reformed during glass polishing. The reason why glass beads water is because the surface of the glass has been altered with the silanes present in RainX. It is not a coating! RainX modifies the glass surface chemistry. It does not add a layer of silicone on the glass. This is not wax you are looking into. If it is wax, Mama Lemon or any detergent will remove it. As said above, the nature of the liquid used in polishing is crucial. This theory says that the best additive is ethanol. Reducing surface tension reduces the surface-to-surface drag which eliminates chatter, resulting in a smoother surface. The surface tension of water is 73 dynes/cm and ethanol is 22.3 dynes/cm. I have not tried this yet but will do soon if I got the chance. So anyone here has some contacts with people in the glass industry? People in the crystalware industry should have CeO as well.

    Good wipers

Just bought a pair of Good***** wipers from Autobegs after my 26" one broke while I was driving in the rain!!!! They perform really well and quiet too! HALF price sale now for this brand! Dunno made from where but cheap and good! Just wanna share with everyone here abt this! UP $26 now $13!
  3. Guys, Would like to ask where to get reasonably cheap wipers? Our latio needs a new pair.... juddering across the windscreen for the past few months liao.. =) Dont tell me shell cause i find those at shell EX!
  4. Hello guys.. I've changed my original wipers to something from petrol stn, eversince then, it has a terribly noise as it wipes... was wondering did i got the right size. Whats the standard size for aveo5 HB, both front and rear? And where can i get it? Now steerling wheel.. any places u guys could recommend to fixed stuffs like accessories.. rims/tyres/bodykit/dashboard lights etc.
  5. Hi bro, Always see people lifting their front windscreen wipers when parking their cars under hot sun or rain, heard that this will prevent the wipers rubber from sticking to the windscreen. Does this method really work or is there for other reasons?
  6. Guys, the black cefiro, since today it rained. Came home all the way from clementi, till ser gdns. WALAO. the wipers were squeaking~ I think the dealer or previous owner slabbed on some Rainx or something. if not it wouldnt be like that. And yes, the droplets get blown off. So i know its repelled. Anyway to getrid of the Rainx? Or just leave it. I like the effect of the waterr beading lah But i dun like the eee eee eee sound... the sound only occurs when the wiper hits the bottom and the side of the windscreen. Means , when it goes down to start position, it will eeeek one time... then when it hits the right side of the windscreen it will eeeek one more time. IRRITATING !!
  7. In response to the Borsch wiper thread some time back... Remembered seeing this in some magazine... For those who wish to have the aero wipers without changing the arms ... Check out their storm series wipers available locally http://www.entrustauto.com/dir-html/product.html
  8. Check link below: http://www.mycarforum.com/...i?post=618475#618475 I believe many of the Aveos and Optras should be experiencing this. Please note that some of you might want to keep the beading water surface. This is not something for everyone. If you are not the high speed driver type and juddering wipers irritate you, this is THE solution for you.

    Wipers

Hey guys, I'm riding a 93 Honda ESi. As you know the age of the car, the wipers of sucks. Just applied a layer of rain repelant on the windscreen. However the wiper still sucks. The question is; how do I know which wiper is suitable for me?
  10. Hi all. Just like to let those who want to change their wipers during this rainy season know that I changed mine last week & found this brand "Force cape" pretty good. I got the one without the "spoiler" & comes only in black for $7.85/ea for 19" blades. The other type is with a "spoiler" & comes in various colours to match your car. This one about $10/ea. Used it for the week & surprised it's very smooth without any judder at all. Gives a smooth & clean wipe. Says it has teflon, so don't know how long it will last but just thought i'd share with u guys. I used to use only NWB but as they're quite hard to find nowadays, I tried this brand. Seems like no regrets for me.
  11. Hey I was told by Sammo that I can only install Skoda original wipers and that there are no oem brands that I can purchase ... is this true???
  12. Hi all, I just GLARED my vehicle over the weekend, and I came back from rain. I noticed that something is applied to the front windshield during the GLARE process, and now my wipers ares shuddering like hell! Everything was alright for a while though. Before that, this has not happened before. Hope there is some way to fix that... Any advice from fellow GLARE users?
  13. Anyone of you experience this? I notice that the water beads on the front windshield. The wipers are smooth initially and then as the rain goes on, the wipers judder like hell! Never put any RainX or silane on the front. But I do suspect the wiper wash has something like it. I don't use wax as well.
  14. Anyone out there knows where to get the rubber blades for the wipers? Just the blades...and not the entire wiper...its cheaper. Tried Autobacs last night but the ones they have don't fit my wiper.
  15. When you replace your old wiper blades, don't throw the old ones away. I went to JB to do the usual groceries and auto job. Went to wash car as well. They used old wiper blades ot squeegee off the excess water before the wipe down with the chamoise. No need to buy expensive purpose made squeegees!
  16. Windscreen wipers (May not be 100% applicable locally, just for general information only) The Test Windscreen wiper systems are now so sophisticated they can even 'think' for themselves on some new cars. When it's wet, they automatically switch on! But all this counts for nothing if the blades are past their prime. And the chances are they will be, because when it comes to replacing wipers, British drivers are among the worst in Europe. We have a seemingly infinite tolerance for squeaks, streaks and judders. Even when we finally get round to binning worn-out wipers, we tend to go for rubber refills rather than new units. Yet according to official statistics, one road accident in five is caused by poor visibility, which is just what you get with old wipers. A blade lasts about a year, and for a car to pass its MoT, wipers must give a clear view of the road - so it makes sense to renew them annually. But which offer the best performance for your money? Here, we put 10 top brands to the test. When buying blades, never assume you need two the same size. Citroen's Xsara, for example, has a 20 and 22-inch combination, while the Fiat Punto has an even more unusual pairing of 23 and 16-inch examples. Be sure to note the sizes and your car's model year before you buy - and while you're at it, check that the wiper arm is straight and there is no play in the spindles. In the shop, you'll find that some makes come fitted with the correct adapter, but others include a selection. This seems a waste of money, as you only use one, and end up throwing the rest away. We have quoted typical high street prices, but motor factors can often save you a packet - so shop around! We really put these wipers through the mill, using them in the wet when travelling at 70mph, and on a dry screen until they squealed. Our test vehicle was a Vauxhall fitted with the popular 19-inch (480mm) blades. Where we had the option, we used a spoiler on the driver's side and a standard blade on the other. We looked for a silent, smooth, streak-free sweep, plus an easy fit with clear diagrams. Rating: Price:
