  1. I have to admit; this has to be either one of the most bizarre or reckless driving I have seen in a long time. Watch it here: What Happened? This unfortunate accident occurred along Brickland Road and involved a Strides MG 5 electric taxi, a Toyota Wish and a van. It all started when the Strides MG 5 electric taxi emerged from a slip road towards Brickland Road and accelerated at full speed. Despite traffic forming at a traffic light up ahead, it did not occur to the Strides taxi driver to slow down. Instead, the taxi driver decided to swerve to the adjacent lane to avoid rear-ending a lorry but still rear-ended another car, a Toyota Wish. During the collision, a van also sustained damages to its rear. It is not known how many were injured in this accident. However, here's wishing all those injured a speedy recovery! At a closer glance Initially, it seems like the Strides taxi driver was driving purely recklessly, which resulted in this accident. However, after taking a closer glance, I made a rather bizarre observation - The driver's side door abruptly swung open when the MG 5 was emerging out of the slip road (Video timestamp 0:24). Could this accident be caused by a medical-related complication experienced by the taxi driver? Or was it caused by the incompetency of the taxi driver? Let me know what you think in the comments below! Netizens' Comments The aftermath of the accident looks really bad... TBH, I highly doubt anyone would intentionally drive like that. LMAO! And yes, the watermark got to go. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  2. With the widespread use of the dash cam, you will certainly come across negatively-associated incidents on social media platforms now more than ever. Compared to negatively-associated incidents, commendable acts often go unreported and are less likely to surface online. Well, not for this commendable act: What Happened? As usual, there was heavy traffic along Woodlands Avenue 12 towards Gambas since it was the peak hour. Just then, a motorcyclist gradually filtered from lane 1 to lane 2 before lane-splitting between lanes 2 and 3. He continues riding for a distance while lane splitting between lanes 2 and 3 with his left signal indicator still on. Out of the blue, the motorcyclist started veering left and ploughed into the side of a Toyota Wish before losing his balance and falling on the road. At this point, the Toyota driver realised what had happened and performed a selfless act by swerving his car to the left to avoid running over the collapsed motorcyclist. Subsequently, the Toyota driver fully mounts the kerb before crashing head-first into a tree. The collapsed motorcyclist would have had his head run over if not for the Toyota driver's swift reflexes. Kudos to the Toyota driver for his quick thinking and excellent reflexes! Right now, I am hoping for the best for both parties 🙏 Netizens' Comments Kudos to the Toyota driver!👏 Well, that could be a possible explanation to the motorcyclist's bizarre act! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. It has been a long time since I visited Taiwan. This time, my in-laws were interested in visiting the country. They wana see Taichung and Taipei, so it was an excellent opportunity for me to include a road trip to satisfy myself. Having driven on the left in USA last year, I do not see myself having much trouble with driving on the left. So why not and they(in-laws) get to experience an overseas driving holiday. Also we planned it in late Feb for the cooling weather and to see the cherry blossom. Average temperature was around 16 - 18°C but it got warmer around 20°C when we left Taiwan. For this thread, I will touch on more of my driving routes. Half of the trip is driving and the other half is on public transport. Day 1 An overnight flight on Scoot and arrived in Taoyuan Airport 5.10am. OMG, it was too early in the morning. Did not expect to arrive so early so we just sat around in the airport while my bro-in-law went to buy sim card for data. Next we took the MRT to Taoyuan HSR station, about 20 mins ride only. Our arrival at Taoyuan HSR station was early too as our scheduled booked train is at 8.05am. So we just sat around the station. My in-laws first time ride HSR, so it was something new for them. I planned it. It took 45mins of ride and we arrived at Taichung HSR station. This is the place where I had booked our car and pick up of the car was. I went with Hotai rental, a large local rental car company. It offers the option of returning the car at a different city. Had booked a 2.0L Toyota Wish for the five of us. The car had 45K km on the odometer. Took me a while to install my car camera(Blackvue DR650S), all the wirings to charge hp and hp holder. I am using two hp, one with Waze and another with Maps.Me.
  4. Hi guys, I am taking over my FIL's Wish (2008) and extending the COE for another 10 years. This coming Dec, his COE will be expired and I am extending it on Nov. Due to the reason of his car a OPC, his mileage is about 70K Dec 08. His car is in very good condition and that the reason for me to extend the COE. What is the thing i will need to look out for? Currently i have a aircon issue whereby the aircon will not be cold when ever the engine is on idling. any help?
  5. Ok now that the process has completed, I would like to share about my latest motoring experience. I have owned a 2015 Vellfire for a year, and due to many reasons I shared previously, decided to change it to 2 small rides. As I did not want to pump in much cash, I could only look at rides of upto $80k each. Good thing the Vellfire was offloaded at very good price, I eventually only need to pump in another $10k. Now what can you get for less than $80k? One thing I was not keen to go PI route again unless bopian. So the typically options if getting new rides are small japanese rides like Jazz or Note, or Korean cars like basic Elantra and K3. Then I also looked at used cars which I have never done before to see if any cars worth it. Eventually I fixed my eyes on 2013 B200 which would cost about $65k which are latest model but pre-facelift. My confidence grew after I visited a few used car dealers as the condition of the cars were really good for any 5 year old cars. The leather are basically still wrinkle free and all the internal panels and buttons are still in very good condition, unlike the jap rides I have had which look old after just 2 to 3 years. Eventually I settled on 2015 B180 which is essentially the latest facelifted model. As the 2 rides are for my wife and myself, my wife wanted to get a Jazz initially but she was put off by the Jan/2019 delivery timeline. She was not keen on Elantra/K3 after seeing them in flesh. After awhile, my enthusiasm on B180/B200 rub off on her and she decided to get a B180 as well. Now I will share why I think B180/B200 is a viable alternative compare to typical jap/Korean fares. For about the same cash outlay, it is 7 years of former vs 10 years of later. I am willing to forsake the 3 years to have better motoring experience. It is a Mercedes after all, though a lesser one so to speak. After doing test drive of Jazz/Note and seeing K3/Elantra in flesh, I am ok to give up 3 years of ownership for the B-class ride. I love the B-class ride as it is almost perfect for what I want in a small car - compact on the outside, spacious in the inside, and full of all the hi-tech features in a very safe and powerful package. Imagine century sprint of 9.1sec, assist parking, integrated TPMS, latest safety features, etc ,etc.. And best of all, it is still the latest facelifted model. And I also did abit of research on ownership cost. I used to think servicing and parts for Mercedes is going to cost much more, but reality is not really that bad. For servicing, C&C offers servicing packages of 3 and 5 servicing. For B-class, it cost about $810 for 3 servicing, and $1400 for 5 servicing. If you factor in servicing interval of 15,000km for Mercedes, 3 servicing would be more than enough to cover 2 years of servicing. This means before any replacement parts, servicing cost for my case would come to $810, which is actually lower than what I was charged for my previous jap rides over the 2 year period with 4 servicing. No doubt I have to cater more for replacement parts which is going to cost more now. And the road tax I have to pay for my B180s also cost lesser than the Vellfire, $740 + $740 vs $1800. But I have to pay more for insurance. Even for petrol also I have to pay more but not much more as the FC for Vellfire is about 7.5km/L whereas B-class should get about 12km/L sasily, so not much difference. And then I have to navigate the used car dealers to get the used B180. This part is the most tricky and dreaded as have read many horror stories. Eventually I would say I am just lucky as both cars were transferred within a week of taking over the rides after finalizing the finance part. I know I should have done more by checking service records at C&C before confirming the deal but I chose to belief the STA reports and test drives and everything look and feel normal. And after owning both rides for a week and 3 weeks respectively, I have been happy with them so far. I would not be willing to shell out the money for them brand new, but pleased tat able to get them now at about 50% off their past purchase prices. I would think they are good deals for 3 year old cars. The motivation has been to try something new as not getting young anymore. And if it does not pan out well, can just sell them away and get something else that is safer. Whichever way I see there is no harm in beating this path. And right now both my wife and myself are enjoying the rides very much as it really offer much more than the typical jap/Korean fares. And if both rides are still in good shapes 7 years from now, just need to renew the COE for another 5 years. Hope this will inspire more to do the same. My apologies for the long story, as impossible to do it in 1 or 2 paragraphs. Hope you enjoy this sharing. Cheers.
  6. Please pm if there's anyone thinking of letting go their's. Thanks.

  9. I made my trip last week to JB to change my set of tyres Michelin 195/65R15 XM2 4pcs Made in Thailand 2016 tyres at RM240 per piece. The tyre performance was really great and I got saving of atleast RM500 as compare to changing to Singapore (Saving from Tyres & Petrol). The cheapest price I could get in Singapore for this particular tyre was S$120/piece, and thus the discount is at least 50% as compared to changing tyres in JB. You guys can check it out this seller at Carousel @ https://carousell.com/p/66822027/. The service was great and I enjoyed a good Bak Kut Teh at Taman Sentosa

  13. I know this is random, maybe no one will be reading this thread. It is ok. Just want to know how many people out there still have their dreams unfulfilled. What are the things that you want to do but never have a chance to do it. My list goes on... 1) wish to see the aurora. 2) have every chance to bring my DSLR around the world and take nice pictures of scenery. Possible every sunset and sunrise. What are yours? http://calgaryherald.com/opinion/columnists/fortney-local-veteran-wins-chance-to-realize-an-unfulfilled-dream Was reading this article, thinking aloud will i ever be like this man, live to my 80 and recall that i still have dreams unfulfilled.
  14. Hi guys I know that this is not the correct place to post but as a newbie, I can't ask much question in the maintenance and repair section. Just would like to ask do you guys know what is happening to my car? When i release my accelerator and when the speed drop to around 80km/h, i can feel the engine brake kick in. Any idea what is wrong here? Lack of Gear oil? One of my company rental cars use to have this problem, but not sure what the rental car workshop did to the car during servicing. So sorry about the posting done here.

  20. Hi all toyota wish bros, recently realised that when my '06 wish is accelerating on expressway after 70-80km/h, car starts to vibrate very very ferociously. It's like the car is travelling off road man.. Went to the WS and he said nothing's wrong with my engine. What else could the problem be? Need some serious help here, the TWCSG site is not working for me I can't even register
  21. Asking for a friend. These lights turned 'ON' after his wife skidded ( but didnt lose control). Now even after resetting ecu and disconnecting battery supply. A shop said his brake accumulator is damaged and need to be changed at a cost of 4ks. Anyone had this problem before? TIA.
  22. How many times have you realised that we always end up veering a little off course after we have decided on doing something? It's pretty often for me. Just the other day, I was at one of the hawker centres getting dinner. I was pretty certain I wanted to have chicken rice as it's pretty famous. Even my relatives travel all the way from the other side of Singapore just to patronise this stall. However, for some reasons unknown, I ended up with a bowl of prawn noodles. Was I happy with the prawn noodle? I was, actually. And it was pretty tasty. But then halfway through I started feeling a little crossed with myself. As a matter of fact, whenever I am at this hawker center, I always end up having the prawn noodles no matter how many times I tell myself to eat the chicken rice. Same goes for my career. How the hell I ended up as a photographer and not what I wanted to work as baffles me. I was supposed to be in a bank or something - along that line of trade that I studied and graduated from! So do I regret what I am doing now? No, I don't. But I do wonder how it would be like if I had stayed on course. I certainly hope when it comes to my first car, I will not be in this situation. I have always told myself when I grow up, my first car will be a Honda. A 1998 Integra Type R to be exact. Now that I'm getting older, I honestly don't think that dream will come true. Reasons being that everything regarding a car - from maintenance to modification - requires a fair amount of money that's more than my monthly pay. So really, how many of you readers out there actually managed to turn out what you imagined yourself to be?
  23. Hi guys, Am driving a 2008 Wish NFL. It's a second hand. 5 years old this year. Mileage abt 90,000K if it has not been tampered before (haha.. we all know abt dealers lowering the numbers.. anyway...). Since I got the car 2 years back, havent change anything on the brakes till now. The car is stock stock condition. Here's my problem : - Screeching sounds coming from rear of vehicle whenever i tap the brakes. (definitely not the front brakes cos I poke my head out of the car to listen when driving. Slow speed though) - Applying light brake.... screeching comes on continuously. - Applying harder brakes.....beginning there's a slight screech, then it's gone till the car comes to a complete stop. - Applying brake when reversing... no sound (probably because it's too slow to create any noise) Anyone driving same ride and encounter this problem before? What needs to be change, the damage, any workshop to recommend, contacts? SG or JB workshop also can so long as it's economical and trust worthy. If not convenient to post here, can PM me. Any recommendations welcome! Along the way, also though of doing a general servicing plus checking of aircon... not sure it's the weather or car, it just feels not as cold when you need it. Haha.. Thanks a million in advance!
