    Suu Kyi detained

Old thread. Suu Kyi in trouble with the Army again. Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior party figures detained by army Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in an early morning raid, the spokesman for the governing National League for Democracy said on Monday (Feb 1). The move comes after days of escalating tension between the civilian government and the powerful military that stirred fears of a coup in the aftermath of an election the army says was fraudulent. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/myanmar-leader-aung-san-suu-kyi-detained-spokesman-myo-nyunt-14084948

  3. ( . )( . ) can be a dangerous weapon hor .... Yahoo news: Woman Found Guilty Of ‘Assaulting Police Officer With Her Breasts’ A woman has been convicted of assaulting a police officer with her breasts during a violent protest in Hong Kong. Ng Lai-ying was taking part in a demonstration against parallel trading on the streets of Yuen Long in March this year when the incident is said to have took place. The 30-year-old claimed that Chief Inspector Chan had tried to grab her bag but instead touched her left breast. However, Inspector Chan insisted that it was Lai-ying who bumped her breasts onto his arm before falsely accusing him of assault. The magistrate sided with Chan, telling Lai-ying: “You used your female identity to trump up the allegation that the officer had molested you.” He added that her “malicious” claims were damaging to Chan’s reputation. Pictures following her arrest show Lai-ying with a bleeding nose and she accused police of pushing her to the ground. The magistrate said that officers policing protests “should be protected”, adding: "There were two groups of people expressing different points of view at the protest. “Without police officers there to maintain order, it is not surprising that there was commotion, or even clashes.” Yai-ling will be sentenced later this month. link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/woman-found-guilty-of-assaulting-police-officer-074912219.html
  4. Dream or nightmare – you decide. 17-year-old Russian powerlifter Yulia Viktorovna Vins, or Julia Vins, has the face of a perfect doll and the body of someone who could probably beat the snot out of you. Julia is only one of many young Barbie-doll or anime-girl look-alikes, but she is the first I’ve seen with a competitive powerlifter’s body. According to an interview she held, she never even intended to become a professional powerlifter when she first began working out – she was simply looking for strength and self-confidence. After seeking the help of a powerlifting trainer, she excelled at the sport and is now preparing for her first competition in September. Julia has attracted both admiration and criticism, but this hasn’t fazed her. “There will always be people who respect my choice, or simply adequately explain why they don’t agree with it, but there is nothing to be gained by trying to defame someone who is following their dream,” I, for one, am happy to give her my respect and, should she ever happen to ask me for it, my lunch money. 5. HU with Bluetooth are always more expensive, but is this Bluetooth function really useful and good to have? The difference in cost for a HU with BT and one without, could probably be around $150? Which can easily get a Bluetooth headset which can be use for both calls and music, in and out of the car. I've tried to pair it with my GPS, and my experience is, the mic doesn't seem to be able to pick up my voice well and I will have to shout in order for the other party to hear me. Beside, maybe I'm to idealistic, I was hoping that the voice command function can allow me to make calls via speech, but unfortunately cannot. Like to have some feedback from drivers who use the BT function for calls, before I decide which HU I should get.
  6. wah, fierce. And RIP for the young girl. Ill treat the maid until explode ?? http://sg.news.yahoo.com/girl-found-dead-with-two-stab-wounds-at-tampines-flat--report-104841341.html A 16-year-old girl was found dead Thursday in a Tampines flat and police have classified it as a murder case. Police said that a 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing. The Straits Times reported that the girl apparently had two stab wounds to the front of the torso area and that the woman who was arrested was understood to be the maid. A female neighbor that spoke to the broadsheet said that shrieks were heard coming from the flat at 856B Tampines Street 82 at around 12pm. A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they received a call for assistance at 1pm. Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced the female individual dead at the scene.
  7. LOUIS VUITTON PULLS OUT OF SINGAPORE STREET DOG FUNDRAISER BECAUSE DOGS ARE TOO LOW CLASS Post date: 14 Nov 2013 - 2:15pm Source : http://therealsingapore.com/content/louis-vuitton-pulls-out-singapore-street-dog-fundraiser-because-dogs-are-too-low-class The road to saving stray dogs is an uphill one, filled with set backs & difficulties. Esquire Magazine asked me yesterday why, I, an aesthetics doctor who people will view as being living in glamour & driving a nice car, decided to dedicate my life to doing this. I replied that before I started saving street dogs, I was indeed one of such people- chasing the "Singapore dream". But embarking on such a journey changes you profoundly. At the beginning, people thought I was doing this to get attention, waiting for me to give up. My colleagues, parents and loved ones were dead against it, telling me to spend my time and money doing better things. But compassion is a universal language. We may all have different views, but at our core, everyone speaks the same simple language of kindness - not only to humans, but to animals as well. That is what unites us in saving Singapore's street dogs. My interview with the good people at Esquire Magazine yesterday was supposed to be for a charity fundraiser with Louis Vuitton . LV donated some items which would be auctioned, and the proceeds donated to Save Our Street Dogs. But in a dramatic turn of events, they pulled out during the photoshoot despite initially agreeing to be part of it - because LV felt that dogs, MONGRELS,, stray dogs, in particular, are too LOW CLASS for their brand image. It is an difficult road we have chosen to take, because many corporations and people are still blinded only with superficial glitter & bright lights, falsely holding onto the belief that the make-belief world of "luxury" they have crafted for themselves is the real one. To these corporations and people, "charity" is merely a means of making their brand look better, or making themselves look good - not for altruism. These people have forgotten the most important language of all - the language of compassion. Hawk Cut Weis Founder of SaveOurStreetDogs.com
  8. Hi bros, my friend upsent mindedly poured 1 litre of coolent into his engine instead of engine oil. After poured in, then he realise. He didn't start the engine at all thank god. What are the steps to rectify this? Call for tow truck send to workshop and do Engine flush?
  9. ...is a no no. If your workshop is still doing this, you are well advised to find another. And the reason is something called "Load Dump" Depending on certain conditions, a high voltage of up to 120V can be sent to your ECU. If it survived, you're lucky. If it's crippled or dead, oh well.. According to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_dump In automotive electronics, it refers to the disconnection of the vehicle battery from the alternator while the battery is being charged. Due to such a disconnection of the battery, other loads connected to the alternator see a surge in power line. The peak voltage of this surge may be as high as 120 V and the surge may take up to 400 ms to decay.
  10. 5 years ago, just before I left regular service in the army, I did a ORD check-up and discovered I had abnormal ECG. A "cycling test" revealed that one of my artery may be blocked. Doc advised me to go for a angiogram and also balloon at the same time if the procedure confirmed that indeed the artery is blocked. I missed the appointment and have never been back. No problems like chest pain etc... Now I have 2 kids and feel more responsible and that episode has never been out of my mind, especially when people around me talks about going for "balloon" or hearing about friends of friends having a stroke... Now its time to step out of denial and face it... have a appt at SGH Heart Centre early next year. Can't find much local info on this. Any bros have such experience to share? Also, what is est damage? Have very basic medisave/ shield with no rider. Also only insurance is SAF AVIVA Group term Life plus some 30 major illness top-up. Assuming it won't be $8 for me, financially wise am I in shit here if a balloon/ bypass is indeed necessary?
  11. Take note if you had topped up Shell 95 petrol at the Seletar Hill Shell petrol station along YCK -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A manager found his car vibrating uncontrollably, as if "the engine was about to explode", after it was topped up with petrol that had been mixed with water, a report said yesterday. Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that Mr Chen had made a trip to the Seletar Hill Shell petrol station in Yio Chu Kang Road at around 9pm on Monday to refuel his car before heading home. But upon reaching his block in Hougang, the 46-year-old's car started to shake, and the engine began rumbling. The intense shaking of his car, coupled with the noise it was making, made it seem as if the car's fan-belt was about to snap and the engine about to explode, he said. "It was quite terrifying," Wanbao quoted Mr Chen as saying. "At first I thought my car engine was faulty and planned to send it for repair. But at about 2pm the next day when I wanted to drive out to the repair shop, I found I couldn't start my car," he said. "I thought my car had broken down but later I received a call from the petrol station asking if I had refilled my tank there the night before." The petrol station's staff reportedly told Mr Chen that there was a problem - without specifying what it was - and that he had to take the car back for repairs. Mr Chen told the paper that industry experts he spoke to suspected that the petrol pumped into his car had been mixed with water, causing the engine to act up. The petrol station reportedly received complaints from several car owners that there was an issue with the petrol. The paper reported that it remains unclear whether the problem had been caused by an individual or by heavy downpours. Shell was reported to have confirmed that water got into one of its Shell FuelSave 95 petrol tanks at its Seletar Hill outlet. A spokesman said it has stopped selling petrol from that particular tank and that other tanks have not been affected. Shell was said to have started an in-depth investigation into the matter.

  13. Number of notices issued on the rise, but other violations have fallen: LTA KEEPING TO THE LIMIT: While most lorry loads keep within the designated passenger loads, an increasing number are violating the maximum limit. The number of lorry drivers caught carrying too many workers on their vehicles is on the rise, going by latest figures provided by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). There were 559 notices issued to drivers for carrying too many passengers on lorry load decks for the first eight months of this year alone, surpassing the number of notices issued for the whole of last year. There were 429 notices issued last year, a jump of more than eight times from the 51 in 2011. Since September last year, every worker has been required to have at least 8 sq ft of deck space to himself, up from 4 sq ft previously. Another rule was introduced to reduce the number of workers that may be carried, if goods or equipment are also transported, according to the remaining available floor space. 14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24618701 US drone strike killings in Pakistan and Yemen 'unlawful' CIA drone attacks in Pakistan are responsible for unlawful killings, some of which could amount to war crimes, Amnesty International says. Amnesty said it reviewed nine recent drone strikes in North Waziristan and found a number of victims were unarmed. In a separate report looking at six US attacks in Yemen, Human Rights Watch says two of them killed civilians at random, violating international law. Drone warfare has become common in the US pursuit of al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Few details are known about the covert US drone operation. Senior al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders have been killed in drone strikes in Pakistan, but civilians have also died. These attacks cause outrage in Pakistan, where many assert that the strikes cause indiscriminate deaths and injuries. Last week, a UN investigation found that US drone strikes had killed at least 400 civilians in Pakistan, far more than the US has ever acknowledged. UN special rapporteur Ben Emmerson accused the US of challenging international legal norms by advocating the use of lethal force outside war zones. Establishing precise casualty figures and identifying the dead in such attacks is virtually impossible as independent media are barred from tribal areas near the Afghan border. 'Very tight leash' Amnesty said it had investigated nine of 45 recently reported attacks by US drones, unmanned aircraft operated remotely in control rooms, often on other continents. The group called on the US to disclose information and the legal basis for strikes carried out in Pakistan. In the report, Will I Be Next? US Drone Strikes in Pakistan, the rights group named several victims who, it says, had been unarmed and "posed no threat to life". In October 2012, 68-year-old grandmother Mamana Bibi was killed in a double strike as she picked vegetables in the family's fields while surrounded by her grandchildren, said the report. It said US President Barack Obama's pledge earlier this year to increase transparency around drone strikes had not been fulfilled. "This secrecy has enabled the USA to act with impunity and block victims from receiving justice or compensation. As far as Amnesty is aware, no US official has ever been held to account for unlawful killings by drones in Pakistan," the report said. It called on the governments of Pakistan, Australia, Germany and the UK to investigate drone strikes or other abuses that may constitute human rights violations. Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch said in its report that six US drone attacks in Yemen killed 82 people, including at least 57 civilians. It added that two of the strikes killed innocent people indiscriminately. A controversial aspect of the US policy is that drone attacks are carried out not by the military but by the Central Intelligence Agency. US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta has argued in favour of the policy, saying that the US will continue to defend itself. President Obama has insisted the strategy was "kept on a very tight leash" and that without the drones, the US would have had to resort to "more intrusive military action".
  15. Hey guys, Thought I'd share this video I made with you. The process no matter what car you have is the same and you don't need to remove your bumper to do it, I had to fix the net and some clips so I just happened to have it down. Hopefully this will give you an idea on how it might look on your car! You can skip to the last 30 seconds if you just want to see the results and not the process! A can usually goes for around 30$ right? And you don't need much for this, so total cost it around 5$. (Including paper and tape) Happy plasti diping folks! :) http://youtu.be/4j6zSpgZprw

  18. Today, went to Clementi for lunch and got hit and run in the open carpark. Right fender damaged, and etc. No video but luckily there was a witness who informed me of the car # and is willing to be my witness if required. I have made a police report and was told that the report will route to TP, and they will do some investigation (not sure what kind though). I am curious what should my next course of actions? 1. Go to my insurer's authorized workshop and get them to repair and directly claim against them? 2. If I choose #1, will the workshop ask me to pay first and then reimburse me when the claim is successful? 3. If the claim is unsuccessful, will my NCD be affected? Anybody with experience on this and can advise? The van with the P plate. Screencap from the witness. He emailed me.
  19. This photo taken on Thursday, Oct 10, 2013, shows Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor demonstrating its pre-collision system which uses automatic steering in addition to automatic braking to prevent collisions, in Tokyo. Toyota on Friday, Oct 11, 2013, unveiled the next generation of cars featuring an auto pilot system that will swerve to avoid collisions and also keep to the middle of the road, all without drivers touching the wheel. Toyota on Friday unveiled the next generation of cars featuring an auto pilot system that will swerve to avoid collisions and also keep to the middle of the road, all without drivers touching the wheel. The Japanese giant autos using the self-driving technology could be available on the market in just a few years' time. "These advanced driving support technologies prevent human errors, reduce driving stress and help drivers avert accidents, which has a big potential to reduce the number of traffic deaths," Toyota managing director Moritaka Yoshida said at a presentation in Tokyo. Leading automakers and technology firms, including Toyota, rival Nissan and Internet giant Google, have been working on self-driving and assisted-driving technology for years. Toyota, the world's biggest automaker, said that while drivers would still need to be alert and take part in the driving process, it essentially lets them put the vehicle on auto-pilot, leaving most of the work to the computer system. The Automated Highway Driving Assist (AHDA) system lets vehicles communicate wirelessly to avoid running into each other while keeping the car in the middle of the road lane -- no matter how many twists and turns lie ahead. "Cars with these technologies recognise the accelerating or slowing speed of those ahead, which also helps avoid traffic jams," said project manager Mitsuhisa Shida. "They can wirelessly exchange data once every 0.1 seconds." The company plans to install AHDA in its commercial models over the next few years. Toyota has already introduced the pre-collision braking assist system in its Lexus luxury sedan and plans to install it in other models by 2015, with the other technologies to follow. Many cars already have systems that gives drivers a panoramic view to keep watch for nearby objects while parking itself. The latest collision-avoidance system has doubled the detection time of oncoming objects to four seconds from a previous two seconds, Toyota added. The automaker said such advances would be especially helpful for older people. Japan's society is rapidly ageing with over-65s already making up around a quarter of the 128 million-strong population. 20. Remember as a kid when you yearned for those crazy Hot Wheels cars that changed color when you dunked them in hot and cold water? It was about as much fun as you could have, short of striking first in a game of roshambo. It's the kind of fun you just can't have as an adult. Fortunately, a small UK body shop called Auto Kandy claims to have created a solution for those still dreaming of multi-colored Mustangs: Paint your car in thermochromic paint, and have yourself a full-size Hot Wheels color shifter. As the video below documents, the car used to showcase the wacky paintwork is an orange Nissan Skyline R33. By pouring cold water on the car, the paint transforms from orange to deep purple. While lacking smoke, the heat-sensitive paint adjusts its coloring via pigments, changing color as the temperature swings. The whole process costs just $320, but it will only last four to six months, due to excessive damage from UV light exposure. It begs the question: What's the point? After all, it looks as if the car's been vandalized by a giant flock of pigeons that feed only on purple Skittles. And how bored must you be to pour cold water on your car, only for it to change back minutes later as the temperature normalizes? Personally, I'd rather the ChromaFlair colorings used on cars like the TVR Tuscan. That way, I wouldn't look as if I'd bumped into Barney after an all-night bender. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT6raekYHG4&feature=player_embedded

Civil service money no enough.... time for pay raise http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/mfa-chief-of-protocol-lim/842746.html SINGAPORE: The former chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was charged on Thursday with 60 counts of cheating, totalling almost S$89,000. Sixty-year-old Lim Cheng Hoe faces 56 counts of cheating the ministry and four counts of cheating a government agency called Vital.Org. Lim is accused of doing so by submitting false expense claims between February 2008 and May 2012. He allegedly inflated the quantity of pineapple tarts and wines bought and used for official trips and visits. He claimed more than 10,000 boxes of pineapple tarts but only used about 2,200 boxes. He also claimed 248 bottles of wine but used only 89. Lim is said to have made claims for items he did not buy, or those that were bought but not used. Lim's lawyer has asked to make representations. How would you expect MacRitchie nature trail to look like, smooth as Orchard Road..... yahoo news: Letter slamming MacRitchie running trail goes viral It takes one "strange" complain letter over a stone to set loose the earth-loving side of Singaporeans, it seems. A reader's letter published by The Straits Times on Saturday sparked major buzz over the weekend, receiving over 14,000 Facebook shares along with a slew of negative comments. Titled "Dangerous obstacles along MacRitchie trail", the letter was written by a Larry Quah Chai Koon, who seemed to be complaining about a fall he had while "exercising" at a nature trail in MacRitchie, at a slope towards the TreeTop Walk. According to his account, his "foot struck a protruding stone" before he "lost balance" and "crashed". His fall impacted his left shoulder, resulting in a "fractured left collarbone" two cracked ribs and "multiple lacerations". The writer then added, "Maintenance should be undertaken to remove protruding stones, branches and roots that may pose a danger to visitors." The letter stirred a storm of negative online comments defending the nature park; some even gave the writer tips on running at the nature trail.
