  1. TAOYUAN, Taiwan - Two women tied the knot on Saturday in Taiwan's first same-sex Buddhist wedding, a move rights groups hope will help make the island become the first place in Asia to legalise gay marriage. Fish Huang and her partner You Ya-ting, both wearing traditional white bridal gowns, said "I do" in front of a Buddha statue and exchanged prayer beads rather than rings in a monastery in Taoyuan, in northern Taiwan. Nearly 300 Buddhists chanted sutras to seek blessings for the couple, both aged 30. Shih Chao-hui, a female Buddhist master who presided over the ritual, hailed it as a historic moment. "We are witnessing history. The two women are willing to stand out and fight for their fate... to overcome social discrimination," said Shih, a well-known advocate for social justice. "Some people might find it astounding (a woman performing the ceremony) but Buddhism does not engage in ideological struggles and I am used to strange looks from my own experience in the social movement," she said. The couple's parents were notably absent from the ceremony, in an indication of the pressure facing some homosexuals and their families.

Happy no, less unhappy maybe for me at my workplace as compared to them as they are generally fastidious about almost everything and so maybe more unhappy... In any case can we say men are "less unhappy" than our female counterparts at our workplace instead? Women & Shoes

My wife keeps buying shoes. There is a pair for all occasions and other pairs to go with that dress. Everything must go with something and then go buy another thing to go with this thing like a never-ending cycle. From stilettoes to boots and everything else in-between. Seriously, most of them look the same to me. Especially the heels. Whats your count?

  13. Billionaire commit suicide...worth it or not? AsiaOne Thursday, Mar 01, 2012 Chinese actress Bai Jing was killed by her husband in an alleged domestic dispute on Tuesday at their home in Beijing's Chaoyang district. Her husband, Zhou Chenghai, 44, stabbed her before committing suicide, reported the Chinese media. The 29-year-old actress has starred in "Kung Fu Wing Chun", "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon", and a dozen other movies, TV series such as "Legend of Xiangxi," as well as children's drama and musicals. She was praised as a possible successor to Michelle Yeoh and is till now, China's best-known female kung-fu star. The news of her death first broke around 3pm on Sina Weibo - a Chinese version of Twitter - by her entertainment agency's general manager Ju Chunlei. Ju said the alleged murder-suicide was due to a long time dispute between the couple, and the death of Zhou's mother on Jan 31 was apparently the last straw for the severely strained relationship. Ju refused to give further details but according to a Chinese newspaper, Legal Evening News, Zhou confronted Bai after receiving a divorce summons on Tuesday morning. The divorce petition allegedly stated that she was unaware of his previous marriage and a son, and accused him of infidelity. Zhou is said to be a billionaire who made his fortunes from the stock market and property. He also has a son from a previous marriage to his first wife, whom he divorced to be with Bai. News reports state that he had invested huge amounts of money in Bai's acting career and they eventually married in October 2010. Earlier this year, insiders claimed Bai conspired with her boyfriend in the triad to steal 20 million yuan (S$4 million) from Zhou and hire a prostitute to seduce him in order to get a divorce, from which she would get more money. The rumours alleged that Zhou's mother "died of anger" earlier this year upon discovering this. Director Zhang Tongzhu, who once worked with Bai, said the rumours could not be true. "In my mind, Bai is an innocent girl and worked hard," said Zhang. Bai was born in Diaobingshan, Liaoning Province on June 4, 1983. The case is still under investigation. 14. Yahoo reports: Women connect with friends, men share opinions - gender differences online Differences between the genders may be just as pronounced online as some say they are in the real world, according to a presentation given by Helen Nowicka from research company Porter Novelli as part of London's Social Media Week. Nowicka gave a presentation titled "Men are from Foursquare, Women are from Facebook"; the report was also published on February 14 on the Porter Novelli blog. The report found several key differences in online social interactions between men and women. According to the report, while both genders are highly engaged in social media, women use it as a platform to "reinforce existing social connections" and "interact with friends and family"; men on the other hand are more likely to use it to share statuses and promote their opinions. Additionally women are more active on social networks than men, with 65 percent accessing social media "at least once a week," compared to only 51 percent of men. Women were also more likely to connect with people they know, with 93 percent using social media to read posts or view pictures and comment on a friend's profile; according to the report, 89 percent of men read friends posts and 84 percent comment on friends' profiles. The idea that men are more likely to use social media to broadcast opinions, according to the report, is reflected by a higher percent of male than female Twitter users -- 35 percent to 27 percent. Men are also more likely to be active on blogs; with more men (34 percent) than women (24 percent) actively blogging and more men (54 percent) than women (46 percent) seeking out other people's blogs to read. According to data from Experian Hitwise, Facebook, the world's largest social network, is more popular among women than men, with 57 percent of its traffic over the three months prior to February stemming from female users. hmmmmm............... no wonder more males in MCF then females.... quote : "men on the other hand are more likely to use it to share statuses and promote their opinions"...... sound familiar.
  15. Bros, comments? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/fea...1179919/1/.html The driving truth: women are better at parking, says study Posted: 30 January 2012 1951 hrs
  16. (KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Women are better than men when it comes to parking, a recent survey found, reversing the existing idea that men have better spatial awareness. The report by a car parking operator in the United Kingdom studied the parking habits of 450 drivers through CCTV footage and surveyed 2,000 more to find that women drivers received 13.5 out of 20 for 'parking coefficiency,' compared with 12.3 for their male counterparts. The study looked into technique, accuracy and time taken to park. The study revealed that women drivers are also better at finding parking spaces than men. Perhaps women drivers deserve more credit than they are used to getting,' said Mr Neil Beeson, a professional driving instructor who devised the experiment. source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/A...ory_760913.html

  20. 1st Sg woman charged with incest: She pleads guilty to sex with father 17 Nov 2011 SOURCE: The Straits Times A WOMAN who had sex with her father pleaded guilty to incest yesterday, nine months after he was sentenced to jail. She is the first woman in Singapore to have been charged with incest, in what is believed to be the first consensual case prosecuted here. Neither father nor daughter can be named because of a gag order granted to the defence. The 24-year-old woman was first charged early last year with permitting her 46-year-old father to have sex with her in the master bedroom of their flat in Serangoon in April 2008. She was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal last September because her father, who was supposed to have been charged with her, failed to turn up in court. A warrant was then issued for his arrest, and he was caught seven months later. The self-employed plumber was sentenced to three years

  22. Women are born better drivers (from AsiaOne Motoring, 21 Sep 2011) By Tan Mae Lynn Let's be honest. We're better drivers and you know it. We women are just more modest (usually) and don't have epic egos to battle with. Self-assured is what you can call us. Here are just three reasons why we are better behind the wheel: 1. Better temperament This is why insurance companies offer lower premiums to women drivers. Extensive studies have shown that women are generally more cautious drivers and, hence, statistically less prone to accidents caused by their own recklessness. Furthermore, when you have a more even temperament, logically you can perceive your surroundings clearly. Besides, how many road rage cases that you have been involved in or heard of featured a woman perpetrator? I rest my case. 2. Peripheral vs tunnel vision When you are more focused, you can strategise better. That's probably why there are more men in high-powered positions in companies. But when it comes to peripheral vision, women are better. Men suffer from tunnel vision. If your line of sight covers more elements, you become aware of potential dangers and opportunities on the road ahead and around you. Granted, men may have better depth perception. But when you're driving, if you're more aware of other motorists around you, you can make better judgment calls. 3. Sense of direction Both men and women often get lost on unfamiliar roads. But men are likely to stay lost longer for this singular reason: Their egos prevent them from asking for help. For some strange reason, they often feel embarrassed asking for directions, even from a stranger they're probably never going to meet again. That said, men have an internal compass to find their way around. Women, on the other hand, need landmarks (Google search says so). Seriously, if you're in unfamiliar territory, how do you tell where's north, south, east and west? But tell me to look out for the golden arches of a fast food joint at a certain cross junction before turning left, and I'd know how to get to my destination. And if that still doesn't get me anywhere, there's bound to be a kind local I can approach who can tell me how to get there. That said, there are, of course, exceptions. I readily concede (no, I don't need to battle my ego) that there are women who betray all odds and are plain bad drivers. But that's fodder for another column. Stay tuned.

  24. Women worse at parking than men You can now stop squabbling over whether women park cars better than men. According to a German study, women are slower and less accurate than men at parking, confirming the suspicions of many male motorists out there. According to the study, female drivers take an average of 20 seconds longer than male drivers to park their cars. Even so, their cars are more likely to be crooked than not, Telegraph reported. 65 people were asked to park an Audi A6 family saloon in a standard parking lot. Drivers' manoeuvres, including head-on, reverse and paralle parking, were timed and rated for accuracy according to how far they kept the vehicle from the edges of the bay. Researchers had expected the women volunteers to be slower in parking, Telegraph reported. But they were surprised that the "cautious approach" did not produce a tidier result. Dr Claudi Wolf from Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, who led the study, said that the research confirmed previous findings that men have better spatial awareness and coordination than women. Men also take more risks behind the wheel, she added. She said: "These prejudices exist and as a scientist I decided the find out if they are true or based on myth," she told the Mail. "I don't think that feminism or the cause of women is in any way set back by these findings," the researcher qualified. "It only proves what previous studies about the spatial differences between men and women have shown." "Besides, it is not as if there was a massive failing by women. It is just about parking - not the triumph of men over women."
