I have read many many times that human life trumps everything in many Covid19 discussion. Personally, I don't think so. To me, there is always a limit to how much economic pain, in terms of dollars before it does not make sense to save that one more life. I just want to put some numbers out there. We have almost used close to 100billion for Covid related expenses. What does 100 billion equal to???? Let me put some numbers. Our average annual income is slightly less than 70k. Assuming we work from 25 to 65, that is 40 years. So that is 2.8million per person. Assuming he works as a slave and does not consume ANYTHING for his master, he will average 2.8million in his lifetime. so many slaves do we need to make 100 billion? 35000 slaves... I am not saying a human life is work 2.8million dollars because it isn't. I am just trying to get a feel of how much is 100 billion.

His spending spree included a Breitling watch worth almost S$6,000, a pair of Balenciaga shoes and a pouch, and S$400 Chanel earrings. He also bought an Apple iPad mini and an iPhone. On Thursday (June 20), Ding Zhipeng, a Chinese national, was sentenced to nine months and six weeks’ jail and fined S$12,000. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty in the State Courts to one charge of criminal breach of trust, one charge under the Casino Control Act and one charge under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act. Thirteen similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing. The court heard that Ding had been employed at RWS since July 2017, and looked after casino cash chips kept in the float — that is, trays where the chips were kept — of his assigned gaming tables. He began stealing casino cash chips from the float sometime in May or June 2018, when there were no patrons at his gaming table. His offences were finally discovered on Nov 12, 2018, when a surveillance operator spotted Ding taking S$1,000 cash chips from the float. The operator then called the police. Officers seized 72 chips and S$3,000 in cash from Ding’s rental room when they searched it later that evening. He surrendered another two chips that he had kept inside his pants when he was arrested. Deputy Public Prosecutor Tay Jia En noted that Ding had misappropriated a large amount over an extended period of time. He showed premeditation by stealing the chips when his supervisor was not looking, the prosecutor added, and he used a friend to cash out the chips as he would attract suspicion by doing it himself. In mitigation, Ding’s lawyer John Koh told the court that his client was stressed and “resorted to improper channels to make extra money”, while working long hours to make money for his family back in China. Most of the money was eventually recovered as well, Mr Koh added. -

I am looking to get one apartment and im looking at Melbourne as it is more of a safe haven to invest in IMO. The price is pretty steep, capital growth is not that fantastic but in long term holding, I think it should be an uptrend. Anyone has any advice of getting one in Docklands area? Is it overpriced? SINGAPORE - Over $35,000 worth of jewellery was stolen from a store in Yew Tee Square on Saturday afternoon (Dec 15). The police were alerted to the theft at the Choa Chu Kang Street 62 shopping centre at 4.41pm on Saturday. The Straits Times understands that the incident took place at the mall's Gold Scale Jewels jewellery store. The suspect is believed to be a young man who went to the shop asking to view different pieces of jewellery. He walked in and out of the shop several times, taking photos of the jewellery pieces and asking if he could get a discount on some of the pieces on display. At one point, he even told the store assistant that he would come back with his girlfriend. During one of his visits, he allegedly took advantage of the crowd in the store and the fact that the sales assistant was distracted to grab the jewellery which he had earlier asked to examine and flee. An employee at a neighbouring store, who gave her name only as Ms Zheng, told Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao that four of the jewellery store's staff were present when the incident happened. She said that two of the staff chased the suspect but were unable to catch him. ST understands that the suspect, who made off with $35,886 worth of jewellery, including three necklaces and one pendant, had yet to be arrested as of 8.30pm on Sunday. When contacted, the manager of Gold Scale Jewels' Yew Tee Square outlet declined to comment. The police are investigating the incident.

Can anyone help me to calculate if it is worth to pump in Jb. Some ppl say worth, some say not worth. Staying at Pasir ris - about 26km into JB via woodlands. Usually I can pump 35Litre, go in at half tank and pump to brim. The cost of pumping in JB: - 35 x 2.76Rm = 97RM - Msia Toll - 20rm + 3Rm - SG Toll - SGD 1 Total convert to SGD is about $42 for 35 litres of Ron 97. In Singapore, SPC Ron 95 $2.29 x 35 litres = $80 - 15% = $68. So still have a saving of $26. Am I correct?

Suspected gang member taken to Toa Payoh central for crime scene visit Earlier today, 21-year-old suspected gang member Benjamin Lee was taken by CID officers to Block 177 Toa Payoh Central – where he and his other gang members had allegedly confronted a rival group to settle a dispute in the early hours of 13 September. LTA completes 200km worth of sheltered walkways under S$300m

1.5million per km of walkway. That's just... WOW. SINGAPORE: When it poured, some Fajar Secondary School students were late for school while waiting out the rain at void decks or at bus stops. Others turned up at school soaking wet, having run the distance that's not covered by sheltered walkways. But since sheltered walkways leading to the school gate were built this year, the school in Bukit Panjang has seen more students turning up on time on rainy days, said its vice principal. The walkways are part of 200km worth of sheltered walkways that have been built in the past five years under the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) Walk2Ride programme. LTA announced on Saturday (Sep 15) that a milestone in the programme has been completed, at a cost of S$300 million. "Where feasible, walkways have been built to schools, healthcare facilities and other public amenities within a 400-metre radius of MRT stations, and within a 200-metre radius of bus interchanges, LRT stations and selected bus stops with high commuter volumes," said LTA. Hi guys, I drive a 2007 Honda stream RSZ. First owner from new. Current mileage at 435700km. Coe ending nov17. I have kept up with all servicing and major parts replacement at all major service milestones. So far had replaced all 4 suspension 3 times, alternator once, radiator once, air-conditioning compressor once, air conditioning internal cooling coil once, steering rack once, drive shaft 2 times, linkages replaced every 120k I'm, ATF changed with engine oil every 12k. Currently using the car to drive Uber/grab for the last 2 years liao. Thought of changing to carens diesel but find the 3rd row really very squeeze and dun like the drive....but must admit the diesel torque is really impressive. Had already send the car for a color change respray in feb17 and also rewrap the interior leathers... What are your thoughts?

Hi all, Need your advice… Huge branches fell on my car My Comprehensive insurance premium was $680 Can repair at Kah Motor (KM) with NCD protector (current is 50% NCD) waiver of excess of 1st own damaged claim (2nd own damage excess is $800) Courtesy car provided if go repair at KM Kah Motor (KM) body shop will replace the roof, knock & re-spray two sides beside the roof, two front A-pillar, two door panels, front & rear fenders Estimated no 8 to 10 days (excluding weekends) Estimated repair cost of 6-8k Provide a courtesy car Authorised workshop A will only knock & re-spray the roof (unlike KM which will replace) The rest same as KM to knock & re-spray all damaged areas. Same estimated no of days as KM Did not provide estimated repair cost But NO courtesy car Option 1 Don’t repair Maybe this is good only if im confirmed going to scrap my car (but my almost 11yrs old car mileage is only 130k, if sell on SG car mart or to exporter, maybe can fetch higher than trade in to KM if buy new Civic this year) Option 2 Repair at Authorised workshop But unlikely, coz No courtesy car & KM workmanship should be better & KM replace roof instead of repair… Option 3 Find the cheapest workshop & repair out of my own pocket?? Hello seniors and Enciks I have been looking at 2nd hand car dealer sites. I saw some are selling 5-year coe cars and it comes with 1-year official warranty and claimed that the engine has been refurbished. I am aware 5-year coe cars are non-renewable. But on the surface, it looks like a okay deal since you can drive it for 5 years? I could get a renewable car with 2.5 years left, at the same price. Does it really make any sense to buy 5-year coe cars? What are the considerations? When it means 1-year official warranty, means I could go back to distro? Sounds like a gamble.. Any inputs are appreciated.

Hi MCF-ers, just need to ask this question to get it over my mental calculations. Im driving a BMW 316i for close to 2years now (since Nov 2014) and im looking to change to another ride with a larger interior space (MPV / SUV / Stationwagon). I searched through Sgcarmart and find that some 2013 cars are quite "value for $$". My current monthly installments (5years loan) is about $1.6k. The 2013 cars i shortlisted, monthly installments ranges from $1.15k - $1.2k for 7years loan. I know i am a itchy backside person having changed a few cars within 10years of driving. so i think i might change cars normally 2-3years of ownership. I was looking at Audi A6 Avant or some Conti/Jap SUVs price ranging from $125k-$140k. Depre is around 16-17k/year. I think depreciation will not matter to me since i most probably wont drive the full 10years. As we all know, 2013 was record breaking for COE prices. Most of the 2nd hand cars i saw had $93k COE and the prices listed are now almost 40% off the then listed prices (not sure of any discount or what when 1st owner bought) for a short 3years usage. Can any helpful soul enlighten me? Thanks very much!

My current car is having manual seat adjustment. Due to size difference between me and my wife I have to make major adjustments just to be able to get into the car. My wife sits very close to the steering but I need to sit all the way back because of my height. So far I tested cars with electric seat adjustment, they seem quite slow to adjust and have so many adjustment points. Looks like memory function will be very useful. Unfortunately most of the models need to top up to a higher spec or larger engine to get the memory function. Is it worth it? Maybe I should aim for cars with manual adjustment instead?
