  1. On the roundabout at Suntec City...And when I was turning into the road between tower 2 & 3...many people were doing illegal crossing...some saw me coming and decided to stop crossing....some saw me coming but decided to ignore me and step onto the road...I antipate the need to come to a complete stop if my honk failed to indicate to them that it is a road....it is dangerous....you see me coming and yet you try crossing in front of me...my honked did work....I was crawling but do not need a complete stop...after that when i look back from my rear mirror....the most aggressive family trying to get across the road ignoring my presence was still looking at me... Have I done anything wrong by giving them a honked to make them aware that what they were crossing is a road....and i am driving towards you all...yes...i could have been very gracious by pulling to a complete stop and let all to cross happily....but by do so...am I giving them the false impression that be it a pedestrain crossing or not....whenever they cross and the driver will always stop and not knock them down...!!! I think not only pedestrain...some cyclist are also preying on every driver's weakness untill they met with a crazy or drunk 1... Anyway...I am not angry or whatever....Just feel something is not right.....
  2. Retaining or hiring senior advisers in Asia can cost two to three years of bonuses, said John Koh, managing director of WMRC Pte Ltd, a recruitment firm in Singapore. Base pay increases of about 30 per cent are available for switching firms and bankers with 8-10 years of experience who have brought in assets of US$300-500 million can earn S$500,000. Entry-level advisers are paid about S$120,000, he said. 'We're back to levels seen in maybe 2006 or 2007 with lots of people in the market at reasonably expensive prices,' said Boris Collardi, chief executive officer of Zurich-based Julius Baer. The trick is to find people who 'pay for themselves' by attracting assets, he said. Higher salaries will depress profits from Asia, where UBS reported 3.77 billion Swiss francs (S$4.93 billion) of revenue last year and Credit

  4. SYDNEY - An Australian man took a gleaming Ferrari for a dawn joyride Friday after mistakenly being handed the keys by a casino valet. The red F430 Spider, reportedly the property of a professional poker millionaire playing at Melbourne's Crown Casino, vanished after the blunder. "It has happened in the past from time to time that people lose their tickets, and in these circumstances we ask for proof of identification and a valid driver's licence," said casino spokesman Gary O'Neill. "Those procedures were followed on this occasion." It took police six hours to find the high-performance vehicle at a suburban service station. A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with theft.
  5. I was amazed and shocked to the extend Singaporeans can go, from making all the news to sign petition to finally our PM comes out and talk. ALL THESE just over some mother tongue langauge in PSLE. Parents r concern the weightage of the subject n is afraid of affecting the overall PSLE grade. Which is good. BUT! What's the point even if they score 280points? When they grow up n yet got problem buying a roof over their own head? Nobody can see this coming? Even if ppl do have petition for HDB, is online. It seems MOE easier to talk back as compared to HDB is it? I juz can't stop laughing when I saw the news that our PM has to come out and answer for such things, yet remains silent over HDB issues.
  6. If Mercedes has moved development of its 2010 car in the direction of Michael Schumacher, that tactic is "simply wrong". That is the belief of the seven time world champion's first formula one team boss, Eddie Jordan, who gave a then 22-year-old Schumacher his grand prix debut in 1991. Although denied by Mercedes, it was reported that the focus on the changes made to the W01 car ahead of Barcelona was with the former Ferrari driver's preferences in mind. But Irishman Jordan said that, five races into the now 41-year-old's return to the grid in the wake of a three-year retirement, Ross Brawn needs to forget the way that he previously worked alongside Schumacher at Ferrari. "Let's be clear; in the Ross Brawn era, Ferrari was basically a one-driver team," said Jordan, who now travels to the grands prix as an expert pundit for British television. He told the German newspaper TZ: "This (approach) is a mistake. The first four races showed entirely clearly who is able to keep up with the new generation of drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton; namely Nico Rosberg." Rosberg, 24, was on the podium twice in the first four races. With the revised car in Spain, Schumacher took over as the team's pacesetter, but was a minute down at the chequered flag. "Schumacher is now more capable of dealing with the car, but the gap to Red Bull has become much greater," Jordan observed. Source: GMM

  10. hi to all bros, just now at about 9.20pm on cte towards sle/tpe, there was a chain collision at amk ave 1 exit, which was why it was jammed, but another accident happened on lane 2 just after the erp gantry i was originally on lane 1, but switched to lane 2 because the whole of lane 1 stopped. i was behind this camry, and while driving at about 40kmh on lane 2, about 2 or 3 cars in front i saw that a stationary blue comfort taxi, from lane 1, did a very quick lane change into lane 2 immediately the camry in front of me jam brake and switch to lane 3, and i jam brake also. there was a gold color hyundai trajet in front which stopped, i immediately switch my hazard light then the indian driver of the trajet came out from the car, i know something sure happen, and yes, because the taxi suddenly cut out the trajet hit the back of the taxi. i dun dare approach them at first, but after awhile i decided to take out my pen and write my name and hp number on a piece of parking coupon paper i walk out and i told the driver of the trajet that i did saw the taxi cut into lane 2 suddenly, and pass him my hp number and say that i am willing to be a witness, and he said yes the taxi just cut out in front of him, and is very thankful to me, after that i just switch to lane 3 and continue my journey i thought i did a good deed but when i at home and told the story to my frens and family, they all say that i am such a kaypo, why so free go and chup other pple accident, will get ask to go court, and all sort of other thing i believe in karma, and to be fair it wasnt really the trajet driver at fault. he was not even speeding, as the whole strech was jam, and the taxi really did a very very sudden lane change. i dun understand, did i do the wrong thing to offer to be a independant witness just to tell the truth??

  12. Hi bros.. yday i was jammed in the expressway during peak hours.. and road condition was wet cos just stopped raining.. when the car in front of me moved further the gap opened in front of me.. so i picked up speed from 20kmh to abt 50kmh.. of cos keeping a safety distance. the car in front suddenly jammed brake.. i quickly braked hard too.. at dis moment i felt brake was working.. but i felt and heard sounds like 'klog klog klog' continuously at the front wheel.. the brake seemed working but the car did not stop and further travelled few metres more with the sound.. i felt like losing traction.. i dunno what's wrong.. been driving for so many years i think it is very ignorant of me to not know what actually was wrong. could anyone advise what actually went wrong? isit brake pads worn out? brakes not working? road wet? and where did the klog sound come from? i suddenly dun dare travel in lane 1.. cos i dunno when this might happen and dunno the next time this happens how long a distance my car will keep moving before coming to a complete stop..
  13. I had transfer to a wrong account whom I dun know the account holder. So I went to the bank and ask them for help. Then I fill up an indemnity form and they will contact the other party about the wrong transfer and only with the acknowledgment then the bank can transfer back the fund to me. But the bank cannot get hold of the person through phone so they sent out a letter to him/her on the 14th and date due is 24th he need to acknowledge. Then if no reply means I have to make a police report. Does that means if the other party dun reply means I can't get my money back? Although is only $300 but also can go a long way for me.
  14. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...018826/1/.html Insistence on bilingualism in early years of education policy was wrong: MM Lee By Hoe Yeen Nie, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 17 November 2009 2142 hrs SINGAPORE: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said his insistence on bilingualism in the early years of education policy was "wrong". Instead it caused generations of students to be put off by the Chinese language. Speaking first in Mandarin and then in English at the official opening of the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language on Tuesday, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew gave a blunt assessment of Singapore's bilingual policy. He said: "We started the wrong way. We insisted on ting xie (listening), mo xie (dictation) - madness! We had teachers who were teaching in completely-Chinese schools. And they did not want to use any English to teach English-speaking children Chinese and that turned them off completely." Mr Lee added: "At first I thought, you can master two languages. Maybe different intelligence, you master it at different levels." But his conclusions now, after over 40 years of learning Mandarin, cannot be more different. MM Lee said: "Nobody can master two languages at the same level. If (you think) you can, you're deceiving yourself. My daughter is a neurologist, and late in my life she told me language ability and intelligence are two different things. "Girls are better at languages because their left side of the brain to learn languages, as a general rule, is better than the boys. Boys have great difficulty, and I had great difficulty. "Successive generations of students paid a heavy price, because of my ignorance, by my insistence on bilingualism. And I wasn't helped by the ministry officials, because there were two groups - one English speaking, one Chinese teaching." Mr Lee said educators should first get the child interested in the language by focusing on the way it is heard and spoken. This includes incorporating drama and IT into lessons to make them more engaging. Mr Lee said: "It doesn't matter what level they reach, they will like the language, it's fun, and later on in life they'll use it." The need to make the Chinese language more appealing to students has been a focus of the Education Ministry in recent years and one way is to re-examine how the language is taught in schools. So the new centre set up in February to train Chinese language teachers will soon offer degree programmes that include modules on curriculum design and teaching methods. The programmes will be offered under four agreements that were formalised on Tuesday. They include a part-time degree for preschool teachers under a partnership with the SEED Institute, a training institute for early childhood educators. Tan Chee Lay, deputy executive director, Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, said: "For students to learn, the golden age is from three to six. So in this period of time, if we're able to teach them well, they'll learn well and their language foundation will be there." Other partners are the Media Development Authority (MDA), SIM University (UniSIM), and the University of Hong Kong. There are over 4,000 Chinese-language teachers here and about a quarter of them have been trained by the centre so far. - CNA/vm

  19. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Motorworld...626-151170.html I remember many many years ago, people were bringing live chickens on buses I do understand the sensitivity of our Other race in singapore but this dog appears to better behave than some kids i met on MRT when i do travel on them some kids would be jumping about on their seats while wearing their shoes and parents just let them what do you guys think? like in japan they have a carriage for all women may be we should have a misc carriage for people bring reasonable items along like bicycles and etc Netizens slam couple with dog on train by Elysa Chen A COUPLE is being dogged by angry comments from commuters. The reason :They took a dog on board a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train. Netizen Jacky Chen posted a video on the Stomp website on Monday showing a young couple boarding a train with a dog in a cardboard box. He called the couple's actions "really ridiculous". The e-mail did not specify when the incident took place, or on which MRT line the couple was on. Since the video and pictures were uploaded on the Ugly Commuters section of the news portal, the post has drawn 78 comments, with more than 11,000 page views. Some called for the couple to be fined for their inconsiderate act. A netizen, chuangfock, even called for SMRT to publicly shame the couple. In a comment on the post, he wrote: "SMRT please paste their photo on all MRT station & inform all duty staff to look out for these (sic) inconsiderate couple." Others flamed MRT staff for allowing the couple past the gantry. One of them, LestatVK said: "Never mind the CCTVs...how about the security guards? Why didn't the guard check the couple with the suspicious large box? Today, a dog inside a box...tomorrow, maybe a body inside a box! LOL" Chancp24 attributed the incident to lax enforcement standards. Some netizens highlighted the fact that there were no signs informing commuters not to take dogs into MRT stations. Although they were in a minority, some, like Twillight88, even felt that owners should be allowed to bring pets onto public transport. In her post, she asked: "If not those who do not drive, how?" Regulations Another netizen, xiangkia, also felt that as long as the pets "don't smell or poo or pee I feel tat its fine (sic)". CrappyKong also noted that, at least, the couple had "made the effort to put the dog in a box to prevent it from pooing on the floor". When contacted, an SMRT spokesman said that under the Rapid Transit Systems regulations, animals, including pets and livestock are not allowed in trains, or at any part of the train stations, except for guide dogs accompanying blind persons. She added: "The public is encouraged to immediately approach station staff for assistance should they spot someone carrying animals onto trains." Ms Tammy Tan, vice-president of corporate communications at SBS Transit, which runs the North-East Line, said: "Our station staff will stop and advise passengers when they see them bringing their pets into the stations. "Over the last five years, we have had only a handful of such incidents and in all these cases, the passengers concerned have abided by the regulation when told of it." An LTA spokesman said: "We seek public understanding as the issue is not only one of space constraints. Animals may cause discomfort to passengers. "Passengers travelling on trains who breach this regulation are liable for a fine of up to $500." Past incidents WHEN: 30 Oct 2008 WHAT: STOMP ran a post about a man who had taken his dog onto a train on the East-West line during rush hour. WHEN: 18 Feb 2003 WHAT: A stray dog slipped through the fare gates undetected and went to the train platform. There, it started barking and sprinting around wildly, and even went down to the MRT tracks. Even SMRT staff members and the police were unable to catch it. It was eventually caught by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), almost two hours after it was first spotted.

ESPN Soccernet report : Lavezzi's advisor issues warning over Liverpool bid Ezequiel Lavezzi's advisor has put further pressure on Napoli by insisting the Italian club must allow the player to speak to Liverpool about a possible transfer. Serie A club Napoli have insisted that Lavezzi, believed to be one of Rafael Benitez's top transfer targets for the summer, is not for sale and have refused to comment on Liverpool's interest. But on Monday, in a move which is unlikely to help push the deal to a satisfactory conclusion for either the player or Benitez, Lavezzi's advisor Eduardo Rossetto has told Napoli they must allow talks to take place. The 24-year-old Argentina forward, who still has four years left on his contract with Napoli, scored seven goals in 30 league starts last season and is one of Europe's hottest properties. It is thought Liverpool have made an offer in the region of

For about 3 months .... BF know that GF is meeting TOM for drinks .... dinner ..... go clubbing together etc. But BF was not happy with this but kept quiet. Now .... one fine day ... or maybe not so fine day. BF was at a club and saw GF having a fun time with TOM in the club drinking, chatting and laughing away, WITHOUT his knowledge. So BF went up to them ..... both looked abit shocked. But BF was angry .... so BF turned to TOM and asked .... BF - Why you always jeo my GF out? TOM - What's your problem? Your own GF you also can't control .... so don't blame it on me. If you are good, then keep your GF at home lah.
