  1. Heard the above offer in a car advertisement on radio recently. Will you be attracted to buy the car if the seller tells you the price of his cars include 10 years 'free' road tax?? I thought we should only pay road tax every six month, not up front paying in one go 10 years worth of road tax?? Doesn't the seller factor into the selling price the amount of the 10 years road tax?

A 24-year-old father of two has been given a two years' jail sentence by a Singapore court for breaking into his former workplace and stealing a cash till and the two-dollar bill in it. Ansar Anwar, a Malaysian, broke into a Sakae Sushi outlet at Parco Bugis Junction and forced open the rear door of the restaurant at about 6am on 28 June. With a screwdriver, Ansar pried open the cash till only to find $2. He took the cash till and left the restaurant but he later dumped the till and used the money to take a bus back to Johor Bahru. According to The Straits Times, Ansar was working at Sakae Sushi as a cleaner from 2007 to 2009. He returned to Singapore on 26 June to look for a new job and to borrow money from a friend. Having found none, Ansar decided to steal from his ex-workplace. The father of two was caught at Woodlands Checkpoint when he returned to Singapore on 2 July. A second person known as Dila was found to be involved in the housebreaking, but the man could not be found. Despite stealing only $2, Ansar could have been jailed for up to 14 years.

  4. I drive an 8 year old silver gs300. Mileage about 107k. No loan from day 1. So far, no problems because it is serviced regularly every 10k and parts were changed as suggested by mechanics. Should I use my car till 10 years old? I am sure with the high current COE values, I am not the only one driving a 6-8year old car. There will be more and more older cars on the road nowadays. Any views from my trusted bros and sisters?

  6. Anyone can enlighten on this? You do not need to bid for a COE for COE renewal. To renew the COE for your existing vehicle for another 10 years, pay the Prevailing Quota Premium(PQP). To renew the COE for another 5 years, pay 50% of the PQP. If you wish to keep your vehicle registered beyond its current COE expiry date, you will need to renew the COE by paying the applicable PQP for your vehicle. If the COE is not renewed by the current COE expiry date, the vehicle will be de-registered. The PQP is the moving average of the COE prices (QPs) in the last 3 months. The PQP varies from month to month. Click here for the PQP rates. If the application for renewal of COE is made in the month of the COE expiry or after the COE expiry date (within the 1-month grace period with payment of late fees), the PQP rate for the month of COE expiry shall be payable. Upon renewal, the new COE will commence on the next day after the current COE expiry date. If the COE renewal is made prior to the current COE expiry month, the PQP payable shall be the rate applicable at the point of the renewal of the COE. Upon renewal, the new COE will commence from the 1st of the following month from the PQP month and the balance of the current COE will be forfeited. Upon the COE renewal, any COE rebate arising from any lay-up period during the COE validity period will be forfeited. The 5-year COE is non-renewable, which means you must de-register the vehicle upon the expiry of the 5-year COE. OneMotoring

  11. sometimes i cannot decide whether to admire or be disgusted by the mitigation pleas by the defense lawyers. ---- Ex-bank manager jailed 7 years for cheating, money laundering By Alvina Soh | Posted: 29 June 2011 1806 hrs SINGAPORE : A former OCBC relationship manager was jailed seven years on Wednesday for cheating and money laundering. 32-year-old Tan Wei Chong, who had been with the bank since 2003, committed the offences between November 2007 and August 2010. The total amount Tan took from his clients was about S$2.3 million. He was found guilty of 11 counts of cheating the bank, and four charges of transferring the money to various accounts, including those of his family members. He faced 46 charges in total, with 31 taken into consideration. Investigations revealed that Tan took funds belonging to his clients through the use of debit authorisation forms, application forms for cashier's orders, and cash withdrawal forms. He had his clients sign on blank forms or forged their signatures, then telling them it was for investment purposes. Deputy Public Prosecutor Teo Guan Siew said in his report that Tan did not use his own bank account to receive the monies he had taken from his clients. He transferred most of it to a joint account maintained by four people, including Tan's brother-in-law. Some of the monies were also transferred to several accounts, including those of his family members, to reduce suspicion. In mitigation, defence counsel Derek Kang, said Tan was a diligent worker but habitually gambled online through online casinos and had also lost money from trading shares. He added that Tan became desperate from gambling and resorted to siphoning away his clients' money. Mr Kang also noted that Tan did not commit the offences as part of a syndicate, and he did not target vulnerable victims like the elderly. Tan, who had his services terminated on 8 September 2010 remained emotionless as he was sentenced. - CNA /ls

  13. Hi.., look like already have sometimes ago about this topic. but let discuss again about this with honest, reality and frankly speaking 25 years old or younger afford buy 100k car real or not? my thinking is simple. 1. when you complete degree or master or phd is how old? 2. if you study oversea, can consider "i'm 25 years old or younger and i afford buy 100k car"? then where you get money for oversea study? scholar? 3. if you get good carrier, is that real from your skill, or have relative in that company that help your career. the point is: - if someone buy car 100k, please talk/ tell the truth, something like you have nice car should suit with your personality :) - if someone keep said "ohh look i afford 1k car" but because he/she work in family business, is that real afford? Anyway, it is just a friday afternoon discussion :)
  14. Apparently she is taking up the NCMP post. From her TV appearance the last time, it is clear that giving speeches and thinking on the fly is not her expertise. Maybe her party members can help her write a decent speech to memorize. However, I cringe at the thought of her having to rebut a MIW. Nothing against her personally, but I think she is going to do more harm than good to both her party and the oppo in general. Seriously, will PP even be around the next GE?

  18. She refused to wash off make-up for two years 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. -AsiaOne Tue, May 03, 2011 AsiaOne For two years, this South Korean lady did not wash her face, reported The Daily Chilli. 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. She said that she first started applying make-up as a 14-year-old and eventually progressed to thicker, mask-like makeup. She added that the most important object in her life was her mirror, which she keeps by her side at all times. Despite being considered rather pretty, Bae revealed to a South Korean variety show that she was dissatisfied with her appearance and wanted cosmetic surgery on 10 areas of her face. Bae's mother, appalled at her daughter's lack of hygiene, had contacted the variety show in an attempt to force her to change her behavior. A visit to the doctor revealed that Bae's skin was twice her actual age due to the make-up, reported online media. According to experts, leaving make up on for too long not only clogs pores, but can also cause early aging. Clogging up your skin Sleeping in foundation, pressed or loose powder, blusher or any other product that covers your face prevents dead skin cells from sloughing off. This clogs pores and triggers breakouts, according to Paula Begoun, author of 18 best-selling books, including "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me". In addition, as "cosmetics can hold on to pollution", leaving them on your skin means that one can "end up sleeping with a load of free radicals on your skin" which can cause early aging, said dermatologist Dr Howard Sobel in an article by Allure Magazine. To prevent these, former-beauty editor Snezna Kerekovic advises women to cleanse their skin at least twice a day, in the morning and at night. Proper facial cleansing involves massaging a cleanser on the face for 30 seconds to "loosen up" makeup oils and dirt, according to Dr Sobel. Bae finally removed her make-up in front of the camera. The unusual 'reveal' showed a young woman who looks far more attractive than her made-up self.

  21. Not for voters to 'repent', but losing party to reflect Letter from Chang Jun Biao 06:35 PM May 01, 2011 I am compelled to write in response to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's recent comment that in the event the People's Action Party loses Aljunied GRC, voters there would have five years to live and repent. I see that as a discredit to our ability as voters to make an informed and rational choice. This election is meant for Singaporeans to choose and elect their leaders for the next five years, possibly longer. I'm 30 years old, and I consider myself lucky that GE2011 represents the chance to vote for the second time in my life - knowing that many of my fellow Singaporeans, some older than me, are going to the polls for the very first time. I am also confident that like me, many of them are taking this GE very seriously and by the time Polling Day comes around, would have given sufficient thought to who we would like to represent our interests not just at constituency but national level as well. Should the ruling party lose their seats at Aljunied GRC, or any other constituency for that matter, the five years that follow are not for the respective constituents to "live and repent" - but it should be a time for the PAP to reflect on why it has fallen short of people's expectations and failed to win their support. It should also think about how it can work toward regaining that support when the next election comes round. And when it does, we as responsible voters would definitely lend a listening ear to give them a fair hearing and assessment, before once again casting our sacred votes. http://www.todayonline.com/SingaporeVotes/...arty-to-reflect

  25. 3 years only compared to 10 years for the swimming coach? --- Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Apr 11, 2011 Second man in SLA scam jailed three years By Elena Chong Anthony Xavier Foo Doon Tong, 43, then a partner of Ribbons and Rolls Marketing Services (R&R), is the second person to be convicted and sentenced. -- ST PHOTO: GEORGE GASCON A MAN who conspired with two employees of Singapore Land Authority (SLA) to cheat the statutory board of about $297,000 was jailed for three years on Monday. Anthony Xavier Foo Doon Tong, 43, then a partner of Ribbons and Rolls Marketing Services (R&R), is the second person to be convicted and sentenced. In January this year, former swim coach Ho Yen Teck, 31, who benefited about $200,000 for his role in the conspiracy, was jailed for 10 years. He had admitted to 21 of 195 charges. Foo pleaded guilty to 10 of 45 charges of abetting with SLA deputy director of technology and infrastructure department Koh Seah Wee, 40, and SLA manager Lim Chai Meng, 37, to deceive SLA into paying between $2,032 and $63,847 under contracts for which work was not done in 2007 and 2009. Of the $297,000 involved, his share was about $94,500. The cases against Koh and Lim have been moved to the High Court while the cases of six other contractors are still in pre-trial stages in the lower court. CASE BACKGROUND: The court heard that Foo was roped in in October 2007 by Lim into the conspiracy as a 'vendor''. Once transactions were awarded and paid to R&R, Foo would be given a cut of the payment made by the SLA. Other than preparing invoices according to Lim's instructions, Foo knew that the firm would not need to do any work for the SLA to get payment. Foo agreed to the arrangement and concurrently entered into both legitimate and fictitious small value purchase transactions with the SLA. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for each offence committed before February 2008, and up to 10 years and fined on each of two other charges after 2008. Tweet
