  1. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...228-330623.html Motoring @ AsiaOne 'Some years' before new satellite-based ERP is ready: Minister Tests are still ongoing and if the system is found to be technically feasible, there are still some years to go before launch. -AsiaOne Tue, Feb 28, 2012 AsiaOne The development of the new satellite-tracked Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system is still in its "early stages", Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo said in response to questions in Parliament on Tuesday. Tests are still ongoing to make sure that the system is technically feasible and reliable in a built-up city like Singapore, she said. And if the system is technically feasible, it is still "some years" before the system is ready to be launched and implemented, Mrs Teo added. Satellite signals may bounce off tall buildings in built-up areas like Singapore, resulting in patchy accuracy, earlier reports said. When the technology is proven, the Government will then study how to use the new system to influence motorists' usage of vehicles. A tender for the project was awarded to four parties last year to conduct a system evaluation test for the next-generation ERP system. According to The Straits Times, the four are Kapsch TrafficCom; MHI Engine System Asia & NCS; ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) & IBM Singapore; and Watchdata Technologies & Beijing Watchdata System. Each party will receive $1 million in seed funding "to design, develop and demonstrate technological solutions". The new system may charge motorists according to where they go and how much distances they clock. [email protected]
  2. Have anyone remove vinyl wrap after 3 years. Will the original paint gone ?
  3. Welcome to PW2 Teck Lee LRT station, the station that remained shut for more than 12 years since the Punggol LRT system opened in 2005. Situated on the west loop of the Punggol LRT, trains supposedly pass by this station without stopping, as seen in the video below. The station seems to be somewhat rundown — covered with dirt, looking fairly weathered. Even the map in the station is the really old version. I guess it will take another decade for the station to be opened https://mothership.sg/2017/12/teck-lee-lrt-not-open/
  4. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_559812.html Sunshine Empire pair jailed By Carolyn Quek THE flamboyant founder of Sunshine Empire, who amassed $180 million in 15 months, and his former director were jailed by a court on Friday for running a fraudulent scheme and for faking accounts. James Phang Wah, 50, and former director Jackie Hoo Choon Cheat, 30, had enriched themselves by at least $8 million through Sunshine's multi-level marketing scheme. Phang was sentenced to nine years jail and fined $60,000 while Hoo was jailed for seven years. Phang's wife Neo Kuon Huay, 47, who was found guilty of falsifying payment vouchers together with Phang, was fined $60,000. They did this so that she could receive commissions amounting to nearly $1 million. Some 20,000 people bought into the flashy scheme, which promised high returns on its lifestyle packages. Sunshine sold these packages at its plush Toa Payoh Central office for over 15 months, before it was raided by officers from the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) in November 2007. The packages ranged from $240 to $12,000 and offered attractive bonuses and incentives. What was unique was its customer rebate points (CRP) system, which allowed participants to use the points to buy goods online. Phang and Hoo had assured participants that CRP was derived from the firm's turnover on its e-commerce platform. Like other Ponzi-like schemes, rewards for participants came from fresh money secured from those joining later.

  6. i think this is the most sickening news i've heard in singapore.... 7 years is a fair sentence.
  7. As many are considering to renew their ride for the next 10 years. Was wondering, should we consider to place those important components of a car? I know, the golden rule if it aren't spoiled, don't bother. However, replacing them may helps to minimise the downtime and without a mode of transport. I had a couple of bad incidents whereby the fuel pump went down as at 2nd day of cny. Carless and helpless for the next 5 days as most workshop are closed. And recent, alternator went dead. Glad it was done in a couple of hours. I read there isn't any hard rules on their lifespan. Fuel pump can be prevented if tank is left half at most day to lubricate the pump. Water pump is encourage to change upon the changing of belt. What's your view on this?
  8. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/taxi-drivers-could-obsolete-three-223246289.html What do you guys think? I think the day is surely coming. Even Uber is intensely investing in this sector. The day Private Hire companies will truly huat is when they can get rid of their highest cost - human drivers.

  10. Read today's Straits Times, some experts suggested "COE expiry should be pegged to mileage clocked by a car instead of years", it's absolutely brilliant suggestion, see how government to implement it, For Singapore car-lite society, the car numbers has to be decreased, and cars also must be used less, however as the high price and limited period COE system, many car owners even used their cars in whatever and no sense, otherwise it's not worthwhile for the 10 years COE, as nowadays technology, a car only be used 10 years regardless its mileage and scraped it's seriously resource waste, this suggestion sure promote Singapore really comes into car-lite society
  11. My Mit Grandis COE exp 2015. What factors will swing you towards renew the COE for 5 or 10 years? At what PQP level will it be worthwhile? Not forgetting higher road tax and maintenance.
  12. and yet not as a classic car? i got an eye on one but it is older than 3 years. is there any way to parallel import it?
  13. Hi Bros, Saw in Saturday's ST advert that the Hyundai Elantra was going @$89k with 10 year loan for thae weekend only. Anyone went down or booked? What was the COE rebate? Any conditions? Appreciate any feedbacks/comments! Thanks!!
  14. Any bro can advise the reliability, FC, maintenance cost,..etc for this car? I test drove once about 1 year ago, quite like it. However the rear seats is quite small for 3 adults. The selling price for 2 years old C180 is about $140K ++ which is about the same as new Camry (lower depreciation and much bigger rear legroom).
  15. The mummified body of a German adventurer has been discovered on his abandoned yacht - which silently drifted around the world for years. Manfred Fritz Bajorat, 59, was found by two fishermen at the weekend off the coast of the Philippines. His body was discovered near the radio telephone on the 40ft yacht called Sayo, as if he was trying one last desperate mayday call. It is not clear how long he had been dead and for how many years his yacht had been drifting, but no reported sightings of him have been mentioned since 2009. Inside the cabin were found photo albums, clothes and tins of food strewn all over the interior. He was floating nearly 40 miles from the coast of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean when the fishermen spotted the drifting vessel and boarded it. The mast was broken and much of the cabin was underwater, but what killed the skipper is unclear. Dry ocean winds, hot temperatures and the salty air helped preserve his body. He was identified by paperwork found on the vessel. It is unclear how long he has been dead. Police are trying to retrace his last voyages and find the last people to speak with him. He broke up with his wife in 2008, who had been on his travels with him, and she later died from cancer. In 2009 in Mallorca he met another world sailer called Dieter who told Germany's BILD newspaper: "He was a very experienced sailor. I don't believe he would have sailed into a storm. "I believe the mast broke after Manfred was already dead." His body was taken for an autopsy in Butuan City, the yacht was towed for a police inspection into the port of Barobo. Police spokeswoman Goldie Lou Siega in the Philippines said; "We have no evidence of a second person aboard and no weapon was found on the yacht." Dr Mark Benecke, a forensic criminologist in the city of Cologne, told BILD: "The way he is sitting seems to indicate that death was unexpected, perhaps from a heart attack." The German embassy in Manila is working with local officials to trace his family in Germany. It is believed he has a daughter called Nina who works as the captain of a freight vessel. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ghost-yacht-horror-mummified-body-7462546
  16. I am thinking of buying a second-hand car from Turf city. It had about 3 years left. The paper value of the car is about 15K. How much should I offer above the paper value for this 7 years car? How much discount should I ask from the listed/advertise price of the car?
  17. Should i just SCRAP it? or sell it?

  20. Doctors discover unborn 50-year-old fetus inside 92-year-old woman https://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-buzz/doctors-discover-unborn-50-year-old-fetus-inside-151424897.html?linkId=15187108 Doctors in Chile have discovered a 50-year-old fetus inside a 92-year-old womans abdomen. After suffering a nasty fall, the woman was admitted to a hospital. Thats where doctors learned via X-ray that she was carrying a decades-old, 4.4 lbs fetus, the BBC reports. The rare phenomenon, known as a lithopedion, is the result of a fetus dying during pregnancy and becoming calcified. Marco Vargas Lazo, the director of the hospital, called the case extraordinarily rare. The fetus, he said, was large and developed, occupying all of her abdominal cavity. According to reports, there are only 300 known cases of stone babies in the world. The study states that the chance of abnormal pregnancy is one in 11,000, with lithopedion occurring in 1.5% to 1.8% of those cases. After looking at all of the recorded cases, the study found two-thirds of the diagnosis happened in women over the age of 40. The period of fetus retention ranged from four to 60-year-old women. The 92-year-old did not have the slightest idea that she was carrying a calcified fetus for more than half of her life, although she did note that the fetus was nearly seven months along when it died. Doctors say they have sent the woman home and have no plans to remove the fetus due to the womans age and because she said that she has not experienced any pain or discomfort associated to its presence. The first-ever reported case of a lithopedion was found in a 68-year-old woman from Sens, France. It was believed to be around 28 years old.
  21. Everyone is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, the fish will always think its an idiot - Thomas Edison True, isn't it? How often do we judge a person by what he does best as compared to judging him based on what he happens to be doing? We must hang together or we shall most assuredly hang separately - Benjamin Franklin This statement was made during the American Revolution, Meaning if the Founding Fathers did not band together, they will be defeated by the British and all will be hanged. Thats a principle largely forgotten today. Lesson: In a company, either everyone help each other or if they insist on backstabbing, the company will lose money and everyone loses. Sometimes we are so individualistic that we forget our organisation's success is our success as well. Anyone has anything meaningful to share?
  22. Saw someone posted at hardwarezone, think it's worthy to post it here. Tharman as expected is excellent. The 'trampoline' response stunned everyone. I wonder how our PM would fare under such interview.
