  1. A friend of mine just paid almost Sing $15k to reserve a few places in a temple altar for his and family members' plaque to be put side by side, upon death. He is of above middle income earner and is in his mid forties. And this price is for the back rows hor, if front rows cost lagi more. Will you do the same also, i.e. to ensure that you will stay with your loves one eternally, till death they dont part ? Pls share , thanks. And May you have a long life.
  2. kind of curious. I had an arguement with my wife about buying bags.... branded bags meaning any bags that cost more than $400. $400 is an arbitrary number so there is nothing to argue about. I know some branded bags cost less, etc.
  3. Read the Cars&Stars and Nissan posting in this forum. Seems like customers can state the COE price when buying cars now from these two company. I vagely remember Hyundai also had this scheme few years back. The nissan deal is especially interesting as it will Refund the deposit should the COE bidding be unsuccessful. This will have the effect to drive down the COE price for sure. If Toyota can implement this system, then it might just cause COE to falls, as BM is the bigger player.

  6. HI All, Please share your views on the Golf GTI especially owners. Does not matter if it is the old or latest model. Would like to understand more from those with everyday driving experience. Others please comment too, just share share. How do you rate it? Do you think there is a better car for less money? Why? Driving an Integra now. Backside itchy, thinking of changing. Thanks a lot.
  7. now you can walk out of your car and stand next to it to do 'parallel parking'. how cool is that ?
  8. Just caught fifth gear last night on cable. they showed what a laptop PC, toolbox, furniture board in your car boot will do to you when you have an rear impact at <30mph. The toolbox flew through the back seat at 3G (a 15kg toolbox now weighs half a tonne) with it's contents smashing everywhere inside the car! I'm gonna empty my boot of heavy stuff.... scary
  9. This is freaking real audio effect. Must try with headphones ! http://www.noob.us/entertainment/amazing-d...ual-barbershop/
  10. Wah lau eh, I thought the norm for foodcourt (with aircon) price is about $1.20. Today just went to Junktion 8 food junction, one cup of teh susu goes for $1.60! Was complaining about it until the auntie next to me told me "di ah, my teh-o from the Indian stall costs $1.70!" Wah, may be I long time in kampung so did not keep up with the current prices ... So the question is: market price is it? [afternote: sorry, talking about foodcourt only hor, not starbucks or shangri-la kopi hor]
  11. Retiree asks man to move his car... Instead, driver punches him twice in the face His shirt was soaked in blood and he needed 10 stitches Retiree alleges man bashed him over parking dispute, then went to have breakfast ALL he wanted was for the driver to shift his car. 17 May 2009 ALL he wanted was for the driver to shift his car. For that, he was punched so hard twice that he needed 10 stitches and possibly suffered a permanent scar on his lip. Retiree Lee KW, 63, and his wife, had driven to the Sembawang Hill Food Centre along Upper Thomson Road to have breakfast on Wednesday. But when he got there, he found the entrance to the carpark blocked by a black Toyota Camry that had been parked in front of another stationary car. He left his wife in his car, without switching off his engine, and went to tell the driver not to park there as he was blocking other vehicles from entering the carpark. The Toyota driver had just locked his car and was about to enter the food centre. 'I approached him and told him that this is not his private carpark, and that he should park further in instead of blocking the entrance,' said Mr Lee. 'The man argued that I myself had parked my vehicle at the side of the road. I could see that his face was turning red and he looked ready to fight.' By this time, Mr Lee's wife had stepped out and joined him. Sensing the man's anger, the couple quickly walked towards the food centre to avoid a fight. But the man threw a punch at Mr Lee's upper lip as they walked by, Mr Lee said. 'I turned to react, but before I knew it, he had punched my nose and I fell to the ground,' he said. Said Mrs Lee: 'The incident happened so quickly. Before I knew it, he was bleeding so badly from the nose and lips that his shirt was soaked with blood.' The other driver, meanwhile, went into the food centre with his female companion. Mr Lee then called the police and for an ambulance. When the police arrived, they took statements from the driver of the Toyota and Mr Lee. Split lip The force of the punch was so great that Mr Lee's upper lip split about 3cm . He received 10 stitches at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The Lees said the other driver looked to be in his 40s and 'rather big-sized'. Said Mr Lee: 'He is not a warrior on a chariot, so there was no need for aggression at all. He needs to behave himself. What if I had hit my head, or if it was an elderly person who had been punched instead?' The carpark at the food centre has only about 20 lots. It is chaotic even on weekday mornings, said regulars. Mr Lee said: 'I want to bring this up so that such things will not happen in the future. I hope there will be witnesses who are willing to step forward.' His son, sales manager Kelvin Lee, 33, has put up five A3-sized posters in both English and Mandarin on the pillars at Sembawang Hill Food Centre to appeal for witnesses. The younger Mr Lee said: 'The police told me that if I can find my own witnesses, it would be good. So far, only one guy has called to offer me advice.' He is not a witness. The police confirmed that they received a call at about 10am on Wednesday from a man who said he had been punched in the face. Police investigations are ongoing. Lawyer Amolat Singh says that in such cases, the victim has three options. First, he can file a magistrate's complaint via the Subordinate Courts, which will then direct the police to investigate. Second, he can also prepare his own private prosecution, in which he must prepare his own charges. Third, the magistrate can also mediate between the victim and the alleged assailant. The court will send a letter to order the accused to attend the mediation. The assailant could then make amends by compensating the victim for his medical expenses, apologise and give an undertaking not to do it again, said Mr Singh.
  12. Recently my fren complain to me the distance and time he needs to travel to his new workplace, from Serangoon North to Pandan Road. He was retrenched two mths back and found a new job in a job fair after numerous applications. He is in his mid-40s. His previous work place was in Loyang and travel to work using CTE-TPE. New job is at Pandan and he uses CTE-AYE to get to work. He complain to me that he needs at least 1.5 - 2hrs to get back home daily thus reaching home sometimes 8+pm which he felt not worth it + need to pay ERP. He thinking of quiting due to the travelling time and look for another job near his place. I stay in the north and work in the south, to me, travel time of 1 to 1.5hrs is normal. I told him to tahan 1st as this is his new job after being retrenched and the economy is not doing so well. But not sure how long more he can tahan.
  13. Has anyone got into a situation where you were in a dilemma if you should help out your family business? ie, let me paint a scenario (mine): My father started a business from scratch until it expanded overseas. Revenue was quite ok and my family don't have much financial worries. However, he passed away very young (50) and my sister stopped after A levels to join the company to continue the business. Due to some major fraudulent case done by 1 of our staff, it caused major financial loss to the company and the local business was lost. My sister carried on the business overseas and has been mostly overseas since then. Me and my brother had the opportunities (luxury) to finish our education overseas with no worries on finances (except for my sis since already started working). Upon graduation (in different fields), we found work outside and currently are all in a stable situation with our work and our own family. Both me and my bro are in middle level positions. However, recently there are some changes in the ability for my sister to continue work overseas and I'm really wondering if I should not be so selfish and work for the family business if the need arises 1 day. Anyway this was the family business that saw me thru my younger days, overseas studies, which without it, maybe will be without myself today. The reason why I feel I was selfish is because I always felt I'll be wasting my time in my family's business as it's a sunset industry and also not cost efficient/effective because I'll likely to get a major pay cut from my current job. This is a practical concern as I've already got kids & family to support. On a positive note, if I work for my family, I might be able to have more flexible time to build a separate business myself (in my line of speciality), and maybe turn around the family business (rejuvenate the sunset business). I remembered the days when I was young (pri sch), I was always seen by my family's business' staff or family's friends/relatives, as someone with the gift of the gab and someone likely to continue my father's business. So I'm not sure if it's time for me to take up this national service if the need arises. Anyone in the same predicament before?
  14. Guys. Just to check whether you put your fan speed of your car air-con to "Auto" or manual speed? I was told that for Auto Fan Speed, the air-con system will open the Air Circulation vent sometimes and mix with the Heater air, is this true?

  16. I noticed almost all of my friends and colleagues pull the handbrake with a 'grrrr' sound. Years ago, my driving instructor had said that this was not the way as it wears out certain mechanisms faster... true? What are your habits?
  17. I had a conversation with one of my acquaintance recently and he was complaining to me that his 2nd Indon maid was beginning to lax and was neglecting her tasks. She was caught watching Malay aired TV shows in the afternoons when he and his wife are both working. His first Filo maid gave trouble simply becos she has a mobile and he has forbade his 2nd maid to own one. My advice to him is to be strict to such ppl like maids as they are not able appreciate the kindness from their employers and simple pleasures like the privilege of watching TV can be abused. I for one, forbade my maid from even touching the TV ( except to clean their surfaces) let alone to watch shows from it....and of course.....NO MOBILE! He was shocked that I was too strict. I feel that they can watch shows if there is someone to monitor them at home with a time limit or when the entire family watches them and she has finished her work and joins them but not when she is left alone or simply feels that she can turn on the TV herself! Are my views too strict or are my views similiar with many others here with have maids too?
  18. this is my 3 dog, and the first 2 have no problem except this one. Breed ShiTzu. At puppy stage, whenever there is thunder, he is not afraid. 5 years later, he has grown up and changed to afraid of SOUND of thunder. as everyone of us is working. he is lonely at home. Once there is Thunder, he will run around the house, is like searching for an hideout. worst case, he will bang the living room dog, like he is wanting to go out, and run away from the Sound of thunder. Anyone has any resolution for such case or have your dog been behaving similar like mine? Kind of sad for him, while i was working, when i heard thunder, i feel sad for my pet. Haiz
